its pretty early to name the starting quarterback but this probably will help build Orton’s confidence.
Orton will do well for us. He did well in Chicago with a worse line. He fits the Cassell/Brady/Bledsoe mold. He won’t try to throw the ball through people.
It makes sense why the Broncos traded their first rounder for next year instead of the Chicago first rounder… we’ll do better.
funny…i was just reading bill williamson blather on about how mcdaniels should decide on who will start after the first preseason game…bill williamson is fat…so, i’m glad it’s orton…everyone get ready for a balanced offense…i know it’s been a while…
This is very good news. Not for any reason of Simms being inferior at the position, but because this will allow Orton to gain more confidence and establish himself as the pulse of the offense. Its always better to have a starter named before going into training camp. I expect good things out of Orton this year and am happy to know that we will have a good backup in Simms as well… Should anything unfortunate happen to Orton.
We gave away a top ten pick next year!
Good news for Orton, Simms would have been OK but his recent playing time is minimal, I agree Orton will make wise decisions and not throw the ball into tight coverage.
Good for Orton. keep up the hard work. Not to get off topic but it’s been reported that Marshall again did not show up for practice and was seen leaving the facilty with boxes in arms. I’m really getting tired of his behaviour. He could be there and learning the playbook. I think Denver can get along without him being a cancer to the team. Gaffney has the system already down. McKinley could be a bright star. Jackson is still here. We have Swift, Taylor and Willis fighting for a spot. I’m not going to let Marshall’s antics distract/upset me like Cutler did (only for a moment, lol). Send baby TO packing already if he doesn’t want to be a team player. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!
Figured he would be named the starter. I agree, except a very well balanced offense. Good to hear for me, i just hope this Marshall thing can get straightened out. This will give Orton confidence going in and i think he does well with this offense, o line, wr core, rb’s, te’s.. Anxious for training camp so we can see who on defense is standing out.
what kind of trade value can we get for marshall? just wondering
What about Brandon for Peppers? Doesnt hurt to dream….
god our season looks worse and worse everytime i check the site
Yea, our fans also look worse
What do you think about this: Josh McDaniels starts Kyle Orton even if Chris Simms outplays him, simply because of a pride issue. McDaniels did trade for Orton, so what if he wants to make it look like he made a good move and starts Orton regardless. Not saying this happened, just a hypothetical situation…
Then, hypothetically, you have serious problems.
OK its not pride that he chosen Orton over Simms it had to happen to raise the competition alot more.. its gonna realy bring the who wants it more. so now the kyle has it does he get better? or does he start slacking? same for chris does he compete more? or does he give in now that hes a number 2? they just had to make that decision now and on time before camp.
Glad to hear KO! I really dig Simms’ attitude as well! Three stellar QB’s on our team…
Thanks for the post, pics (should have superimposed a Broncos symbol on the bunny), and video/audio!!!! This site is definitely beginning to offer more and more since the whole you know what…
Is it August yet?!?!
jmonk, stop with the glass half empty crapola, already. Denver has lots of talent at WR should Marshall flake. We have Gaffney who KNOWS McD’s system and is a veteran, proven capable WR. We have C. Jackson who should do well. We have the rookies McKinley, Taylor and Swift. We have Willis still aboard. We have Royal and Stokley. Stop with the negatism and panic mode. Do you really want to go into the season with the “woe is me” attitude? I go in positive. Even if the year turns out bad (like last year) I know I enjoyed the season and saw some positive, even through all the bad (like Royal being awesome, Hillis showing his potential, Clady being a beast) Our D will be much improved and there is reason to celebrate (Dawkins and Ayers being brought aboard and Champ and Boss and Powell being healthy). Get on the Broncos bus or leave it for the bandwagon bus, your choice.
Sorry, footballMANIAC , but hypothetically, you’re wrong. McD has a future invested in this and he KNOWS football talent. He wouldn’t jeopardize his career to make the fans happy or to save face. I like what I’m seeing from him. I figured Orton would play better then Simms. Chris has been out of the game and is rusty. Orton isn’t.
Dynamicdave I want to know where you are reading this about Marshall leaving the facility with boxes in hand? Because on nfl.com it has nothing of the sort, just says he missed the practice but reported later in the day for a meeting which took 1 hour 15 minutes and did not stop to talk to reporters afterwards.
Then with what McDenver said in his interview naming Orton the starter for now he touched more on it that its a personal in house situation and he won’t discuss it, that only Pat can/will that he wasn’t in the meeting.
Now if he was being a cancer and wanting a trade that is a meeting both coach and owner are involved in, not just one or the other. i.e. the meeting with Cutler when he brought his agent, both bowlen and McDenver were there.
As for the boxes in hand I have yet to find anything to read on about, who is to say they are not playbooks for him to study because they changed some things, because they want him to do a larger role, because he maybe hadn’t received them yet?
NO use in jumping the gun to him being a cancer, I think Rod Smith is in his ear sayin i know you’re underpaid but you’re coming of hip surgeory, play it out and get a fat contract next year! I really think Marshall has matured since his suspension, the other thing the press made a big deal over nothing just because he had been in that situation before.
Anyway as for Orton being the starter, I have really liked Orton over his career, Simms shows great potential and would be a starter somewhere were it not for injuries.
I love the naming of our starting QB in June BEFORE TRAINING CAMP AND PRE SEASON!
1. It gives who ever is ahead in the competition more reps with the first group offense which is pretty much all decided already!
2. It lights a fire under the 2nd guys seat because it was a good competition before the naming.
3. It also lights a fire under the named starter’s seat because McDenver has proven he doesn’t just play who has been the best, its who is the best NOW! Not to mention if everything was named and set in granite in June, people would already being handing out who they thought the superbowl winner was a trophy!
It’s too early for absolutes, but this way it gives who is ahead at this time more reps rather then splitting them, and encourages the 2nd guy to excel even more because now he doesn’t have the better guys around him to throw to etc.
We’ll be fine this year, not to mention get a higher pick having kept the bears rather than ours. Cutler will force too much and his improved defense from last year as well will get tired I.M.O.
Our D is much improved, not to mention behind the starters too! Our depth will be great should we experience some mishaps like last year!
GO ORANGE AND BLUE
FOOTBALL BABE WHERE ARE YOU?
2champ4pickSIX,
I enjoyed reading your novel. Will there be a sequel?
Hmmm
Glad to be back on the site, I’ve been in Breckinridge learning to be a leader. Anyways I am not worried in the sligtest about Marshall, but if we were to move forward without him then we would be fine. Both Jackson and Gaffney were overshadowed by Moss and Welker in New England, and both showed promise the year before Moss and Welker were brought in. As for Clady, He is the BEST o-lineman in the league. Orton will do great this year, and the biggest thing will make great decisions in our new open system. Mckinley has potential, can be Like Royal, just not as good. The Defense is where I’m excited, with a new d-coordinator, and having Boss, Champ, DJ, Powell, and everyone else healthy. Strong DB depth with Dawkins, Hill, Champ, and Smith startin and then McBath, Goodman, and Bell as nickel and dime corners, with Bruton and Barrett as back up safties. Cant wait to see how Ayers and Moss perform at OLB, Moss s a tremendous athlete, and OLB suits him.
2champ4pickSIX here it is

……With or without Brandon we will roll on. Get rid of all the cancer on this team and lets move forward. Go Broncos
alwayz 7……Maybe its you that needs to wake up. The right coach was hired and he will get rid of all the cancer. Brandon will be back to beatin on girls before Christmas…
Thanks West Coast. Just got back on and you saved me time.
2champ4pickSIX, where do you get the notion that Rod Smith is even talking to Marshall? The only one who you can be sure is talking to Marshall, is Bowlen and Marshall’s agent. Try not to start unfounded rumors. My post was based off of an ESPN article. Whether it’s accurate, I have no clue, but it’s not completely theoretical like the Smith statement.
alwayz 7, where do you get off calling people idiots? People are entitled to their opinions, myself included, whether it be right or wrong. Debate, yes., but stop with the name calling. That’s something you find on a Raiders site, not Broncos. As far as Gaffney, he kicked butt in NE and that’s playing behind Moss. Who knows what McKinley might do? He may be another Royal. C. Jackson might play better then you think. McD will play a spread O and use the pass based off the run. Orton won’t be fixated on Marshall the way Cutler was. Maybe that will mean better ball control and less interceptions. Everyone KNEW Cutler was going to throw to Marshall, including the fans. He didn’t even look off the other receivers. Predictable. Give it a chance before bashing the fans for their opinions. You sound like a glass half empty person in regards to the Broncos and it’s a certainty that you will have a depressing season. Did you ever watch Major League II? Remember Randy Quaid as the fan who bashed and bashed but when the team did well, was suddenly all for the team? Hmmmmm.
alwayz 7 said, “Swift, willis, and whoever else you want to bring up are all rejects for a reason.”
Beep, wrong! Swift is a rookie. Reject from what? Do your homework. You’re bashing just for the sake of bashing while bashing with inaccuracies. Willis is a reject, why? Because he was traded? So was TJ from KC. Stokley was released from the Colts. Denver picked him up. Are they rejects? Cutler was traded? Guess he’s a reject too? Wasn’t it in McBeth that he said “Methinks the lady doth protest too much.” (Not calling you a lady, just making a point).
Actually, Willis was waived by the Ravens and Denver picked him up. Doesn’t make him a reject.
A little more on Willis. He was waived off the practice squad by Baltimore and picked up in Dec. by Denver on the PS. McD hasn’t gotten rid of him yet. Travis Shelton was let go before Willis. Whether he sticks or not is as good a guess as any, but apparently McD thinks he’s still worth a look because he’s still here. I recall Hillis being sent to the PS and we all saw how he turned out. Give the players time and a chance.
always 7,
This website is for broncos supporters and fans. By reading you comments, I don’t beleive you are either of them. Do us all a favor and stop posting until you change your attitude.
Thanks,

Havent been on for awhile and do my eyes decieve me do we really have trolls again? Guys ignore the trolls, dont respond to their comments eventually they’ll leave or get banned by the admin.
On a another note congrats Orton on getting the starting job, but I think we all knew he would get it considering Simms hasnt played in awhile and already knew he was signed as a back up quarterback.
What’s up, Deify_you? I don’t mind bashing the trolls. It’s always a pleasure to put them in their place and show them that they were wrong. Also, I have yet to meet a troll who I couldn’t put in his/her place. Call it “a moral obligation to the Bronco fans.”
JMonk=Raider Fan. Get out of here. We don’t need your nonsense. In any case, Marshall will still be with the Broncos if he knows what’s good for him and since he does, I have nothing to worry about. Orton will do an excellent job for us so all will be well for true fans in Bronco Country.
Dynamicdave nothing much…so I hear the rumor is that Marshall either wants more money or be traded because he feels that his numbers will go down and he’ll be less desirable next season.
BradJamesBroncoFan, so true. If Jmonk just stops “visiting the site” as he put it, then he won’t continue to be “disappointed” and neither will we, ha, ha.
Yeah, if that;s the case, get rid of him anyways. Tired of these players that are all about “me, me, me.” They forgot about the “love of the game” or the fans who pay their salary by watching them and buying their merchandise. Marshall is becoming a cancer and a distraction. He says he is happy with the new look team but I feel he’s talking out the side of his mouth.
Meant that’s, not that;s. Sorry.
-yep- *beer in hand*
way to go K O but we knew you were the starter for a long time. so congrats on it being confirmed.
you all, know i am on the fence about marshall. He was to come in for medical ther. and let the docs do their job. He came in late (mid-day) and went to Bowlens office then left (with boxes). and did not talk to reporters. Today he was a no show also. Do i have everything right so far?
so either you guys are hearing things in Denver (radio-tv) that we are not or this could be a minor thing.!?
we would be a better team with marsh. but like i said with that other guy ‘he is under contract’ no PLAYER likes to do all the work and set on the bench. but we don’t even have to do that with b-marsh we can keep him on IR. after all it is ‘OUR DOCTORS’ that have to sign off on his condition.
sitting here i just had a flash. Mac “will start the BEST players”, do you think B-MARSH is afraid that he cannot win back his job? (gaffney)weather it is b/c of medical or lack of talent (route running) do you think thats why he wants money now? he could have started this (talks) anytime. but now his hip is not right so he wants a big contract with a lot of up front money.
texark, anythings possible. I will worry about the now and focus on the WR’s that are practicing and support them. I was on the ESPN blog and mentioned that the Raiders did little to improve themselves. A blogger responded with this:
“Then DynamicDave you should use that logic for the Raiders. The only problem is that the raiders did improve because it didn’t lose any players they wanted and the ones that left have a equal or better replacement. We can’t say the same for the Broncos for that matter and it starts at QB. You know well you lost a Pro Bowl QB with potential for more and replaced him with a serviceable one only.”
So I responded back:
“xobn1050, I look at the loss of Cutler this way, he was a gunslinging QB who constantly fixated on Marshall. To the point of throwing INT’s and incomplete. McD wants a ball control QB and Orton fits that mold. I’ll give Kyle his shot and see what happens. The Raiders only strong point last year was decent running backs and a good D. We now have their D coach (Martindale) working the line for Denver. You talk about Denver’s QB position but state they haven’t improved anywhere else? Incorrect. Oline is the same. Running backs have improved or have you forgotten Moreno? D has Dawkins, Hill, Goodman and Davis. Fields was a slated starter as NT for the 49ers till he broke his arm. They then picked up a young stud nose, paid him big money and when Fields was ready to come back, got stuck into the rotation. They have a healthy Carlton Powell who was slated to be a starter last year but got hurt in training camp. Boss will be healthy again. Doom is going to play both DE and OLB. Denver has Ayers. I’m truly happy with what they have done. If others aren’t, so be it, but the season is yet to start and when it does, let the record speak for itself.”
I tend to see bloggers who are not Broncos fans, not doing their homework to the detail that we do. They are barking up the wrong tree if they expect to back me into a corner.
d-dave were you out bashing the raiders? ha ha;)
Not bashing, just educating. I never bash unless bashed 1st. He wasn’t bashing me. He was just “misinformed” and I was there to “show him the way”, lol.
ooooooh, now i understand
I’m still over there on the ESPN site, educating the “bloggers”. There is one blogger named “Just win BBY” who is a real pain. I’m constantly arguing with this guy. He just said Orton is no more then a BU, so I told him that Orton started last year and went to the playoffs. Where was his Raiders at? I also told him that Orton was just named Denvers starter so…..
let em have it dave, lol.
broncos all the way.
marshall for peppers are you out ya mind???? must be im sure the panthers would love that trade….a young big to throw to….please if anybody we get steve smith…but it wont happen at all…so please just stop!!!
ramboskithefan …No Im not out of my mind. Marshall has beed arreseted 5 times in the last 6 years and now is a no show. I want players here who want to be here and Peppers would be huge…
we need to have marshall on our team, with cutler gone he needs to be the leader of that offense along with orton. i really like orton as our starting qb i think were ganna make a run at the playoffs this year i believe our defense has gotten better an that knowshon is the real deal. GO BRONCOSSSSSSSSS
dbroncos6, Stokley is a leader. Orton can be a leader. Gaffney can be a leader. Wiegmann (if he stays) can be a leader. Marshall can be a distraction….
