Orange Opener

August 3rd, 2011 - 10:30am by Gray Caldwell

As you might have seen the club announce via our Twitter page, the Broncos will open up the regular season in its orange jerseys at home on Monday Night Football against the Raiders.

The second and final time the team will wear its alternate threads in the 2011 season comes in Week 8 when the Detroit Lions head to INVESCO Field at Mile High the night before Halloween.

The run game solves a lot of problems… those 3rd downs are not 3rd and longs if you have a decent run game. It’s impossible to say those things don’t go hand in hand. Playing from behind (because of a terrible defense) contributes to the decision making and pressure to make something happen a quarterback goes through. I suppose I just disagree

For the record, I’m indifferent to starting Tebow or Orton. Both options have their positives and negatives and Elway and Fox will have their reasons either way

  2. henryac says:

The Orton/Tebow argument perfectly fits the old cliche, “For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.” Only time will tell. I guess we will know soon enough!

  3. Yovi21 says:

    Quit haha sorry!

  4. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Next, Tebow – long pass to Willis sets up TD pass to Davis. Quinn coming up

Quinn’s drive cut short by a Nate Irving INT

Just twitter stuff from practice. I guess that mean Irving is playing with the second team.

  5. Atwater4HOF says:

I think fans were just more tired of losing and blaming the QB is the easiest person to blame.

  6. strandoftds says:

The Broncos are finding the right pieces to the chess game, thus giving attention to us Bronco`s fans being patient in this few years of building process. A game of chess anyone?

  7. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Part of the job, glory goes to you come glory time, and blame goes to you come blame time. you are the guy with the ball in his hands on every offensive play. You are the guy supposed to lead the team to victory. Soldiers rarely get fired/replaced for failure to execute in war, but field generals do. Because its their Job to make things happen, fair or not … just the way it is. and when we went 6-0 it wasn’t because of Ortons play, it was because of the D bailing him out and not giving up touchdowns. He still couldn’t score. we just made sure that they didn’t score. Thats not a good QB. Just saying…thats a servicable QB.

  8. foxtrot says:

It is frustrating watching Orton get trapped in the pocket with cement feet, But from all reports (and it is extremely early) Tebow has trouble with reads and timing when throwing the ball. Lets face it, neither QB will get it done without a good running game and a defense that forces turnovers and stops the other team. Tebow ran a college style offense that featured the zone read with a run/pass threat while at Florida. A QB can not survive doing this in the NFL-too fast and physical on defense. Tebow is dynamic in his impact but also raw and unpolished. I hope he turns into what we all have seen flashes of but right now he needs game time to prove it one way or another. The pre-season will be interesting to say the least.

  9. Atwater4HOF says:

Disagree… he straight up out played Tom Brady during that stretch and was an above average QB. We also ran the ball much more effectively during that stretch and like you said, got contributions from the D.

So it appears when our run game is solid and our D plays well… we win. Interesting

Your analogy is more appropriate for coaches in my eyes. John Fox is not a bad coach, the players sucked on the Panthers and he got fired. The QB does shoulder a lot of burden but it’s not like he was throwing numerous interceptions a game and losing games for us. I’m not big on stats but essentially a 2 to 1 TD to INT ratio is more than serviceable whether you consider those inflated or not

  10. broncos14441 says:

NFL Network reports Orton no longer on trading block and will start for broncos. Michael Lombardi also reported Tim Tebow no longer in Broncos future plans

  11. baylinorcrush says:

imready loves to do that, drops in, lays a big one on whoever, and bails, some things never change…. and BFE did not take too kindly to that, LOL.

  12. Atwater4HOF says:

No longer in future plans? Maybe not in starting week 1 plans… I highly doubt and hope they aren’t referring to the future in general

  13. Yovi21 says:

    c’mon…after 5 training camp practices?…no way!

  14. strandoftds says:

If Lambardi said that, he`s talking out of his Arse. NFL Network is a damn freaking monkey wrench from top to bottom, they hate the Broncos.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

“Michael Lombardi also reported Tim Tebow no longer in Broncos future plans.”

Like Brian in the morning keeps saying, if you don’t want to use Tebow trade the man, give him a shot somewhere, and if what Lombardi says is true, or what 14441 says Lombardi says is true, then by all means trade Tebow now, do the right thing.

And that sure would say a lot for who Elway really wants which has always been hinted at anyway, a little bit of Luck from Standford, he might have to have Orton throw a few games for that to happen though, which come to think of it wouldn’t be all that hard, LOL.

  16. strandoftds says:

The NFL Network needs some new people in there, new analysts. There all flippen sarcastic.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

    Lombardi is BFE’s favorite though.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Day wouldn’t be complete without this: Eagles agree to terms with a pair of DTs, Anthony Hargrove and Derek Landri. One-year deals.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Landri is one of the DT we had for a visit trying to sign.

  20. strandoftds says:

If the Broncos do trade Tebow which would be a big slap in the face, then by all means go 0-16 and get Luck. Is EFX that stupid, I say a resounding NO!!!!!! They won`t trade Tim Tebow, no way in hell!!!!

  21. randy2191 says:

obviously ortons starting off this season they say.. only reason they should give tebow this year is we all know orton is no better then a 6-8 win qb.. but with tebow we dont know if we let him play he might go 3-13 and then we will know we need a replacement and be in good standings draft wise to do it.. but also he might go 13-3 and would know nothing bout if we need a qb cuz we took the 6-8 wins instead of rolling the dice on 3 or 13

  22. strandoftds says:

    Eagles still stockpiling.

  23. Atwater4HOF says:

Luck would be nice though… ah can’t look that far ahead hah

  24. baylinorcrush says:

There has got to be a plan in all this madness, we just don’t know what it is, hahaha.

  25. strandoftds says:

It`s not even the preseason yet and we`re talking about 2012 draft, rediculous.

  26. Yovi21 says:

….so what does that mean? future as in this season? Future as in Forever?…I honestly didn’t think this organization could upset me any more!

  27. strandoftds says:

I `ll go out on a limb. Kyle Orton gets traded after week 3 of the preseason game. Hows that?!

  28. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Like Bay said, that statement would have been made either way because the depth chart had to be released and if it is released with Orton starting, then clearly I would hope the brass is wise enough to say he is off the block. You can’t say, He is starting but still on the block. If Miami calls tommorow with a better trade for Orton that they think will benefit the team. They will take it. They are willing to listen to all and ever proposition. All this means is they are not gonna put him out there themselves to trade.

As far as Tebow no longer in the future. I dunno if thats ever or just for now but like Bay says. Trade the man. I was mad when Hillis was traded but clearly McDaniels didn’t like him and wasn’t gonna use him. Same with Tebow, if thats how it is, trade him. Heck Part of the reason I want Orton traded is because he gets no love here either, he is better going somewhere he is gonna be used and possibly appreciated. One mans trash is another mans treasure or so they stay. And if Elway really wants luck and doesn’t believe in Tebow….if he doesn’t believe in Tebow THAT much … he should start Tebow this year because if his evaluation is right, we will have the first round pick lmao. TRB out…

  29. strandoftds says:

THERE NOT GOING TO TRADE TIM TEBOW< ARE YOU GUYS NUTS?!!!!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Ok, I found a little more info about what Lombardi said:

“Orton will be the starter in Denver. He will not be traded,” Mike Lombardi said Wednesday, echoing an item we mentioned from Adam Schefter earlier in the day.

NFL Network’s Twitter feed took the report at step further, saying the Broncos told Orton he’s not going anywhere. (It’s unclear if they got more information from Lombardi, or whether they heard him wrong on air.)

So why do we need so much clarity on August 3? Isn’t it obvious enough Orton is the guy considering he’s getting all the first team reps?

We wonder if the Broncos brass is sending a message here to their fans and to their players. They are addressing “The Tebow Thing.” They are declaring a leader.

Lombardi doesn’t think Tebow will ultimately get a fair chance in Denver.

“He’s in limbo right now. I said all offseason I thought Tim Tebow wasn’t in their plans. . . I think ultimately he is not in their plans,” he said.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

Obviously Lombardi’s last sentence “I think ultimately he is not in their plans (Tebow)” is the one that is now reverberating through Bronco Country.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

Never a dull moment when you are a Bronco fan, good or bad, LMAO.

  33. strandoftds says:

The fans in Mile High are gonna turn on Orton I`m telling ya. It`s going to get ugly.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

They better put up a new blog real soon or this one can’t be too far from exploding, haha.

  35. strandoftds says:

    TNT!!!!

  36. baylinorcrush says:

You mean the tens of thousands who bought Tebow jerseys? LMAO.

  37. Yovi21 says:

I’m waiting for that practice blog!

  38. strandoftds says:

The ones who know that Orton blows chunks in the 4th quarter.

  39. baylinorcrush says:

But all the Orton jersey wearer fans will come to Orton’s rescue, all 23 of them, LOL.

  40. strandoftds says:

    LMAO!!

  41. Vibe05 says:

Was never a fan of delhome playin qb but fox played him. Orton is very similar. I don’t like to see this, but tebow will get short yardage and some play time. Tebow has to make no mistakes every time he’s on the field. We can only hope orton buries himself early. Before tebow starts a full game. AND I STILL SAY No to week1… ALL Fans stay home for week1. Let both sides of the dispute see empty stadiums across the nation. But no all us suckers will line up and hand over our money like nothing happened.

  42. since1972 says:

Orton or Tebow ? Don’t think it makes much difference either one is average at best. After all consider who is responsible for bringing both of them to Denver, One loser of a head coach.

  43. Atwater4HOF says:

Trade them both let Quinn and Adam Weber battle it out. I’ll give Weber the upperhand due to the chemistry with Decker

  44. strandoftds says:

There`s probably more fans in Denver that will wear Cutler jerseys rather than Ortons jerseys. LOL

  45. strandoftds says:

If we did that we`d be in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes for sure.

  46. Yovi21 says:

I honestly like that thought…is that sad?

  47. Atwater4HOF says:

Who knows… Weber may be the next Tom Brady! lol sigh… just kidding

  48. Atwater4HOF says:

At least there would be no more Tebow/Orton arguments. That’s always a positive

  49. strandoftds says:

That would be a strang twist. LOL
