Orange Friday

January 12th, 2012 - 5:40pm by Stuart Zaas

Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock has proclaimed Friday, Jan. 13 to be “Orange Friday” in the city and county of Denver to support the Broncos before their AFC Divisional contest at New England, which will kick off at 6 p.m. MST on Saturday, Jan. 14.

“Denver is electric with enthusiasm for the Broncos,” Mayor Hancock said. “It’s up to our fans to come together, continue to show support for our team and give them the energy needed to keep this magical season going.”

The Mayor is encouraging Broncos fans to wear orange on Friday, and the City has announced other initiatives that will be in effect leading up to Saturday’s game:

  • Fans are invited to help transform Bannock St. in front of the City and County Building into a giant “Good Luck Broncos” card with sidewalk chalk. At 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Mayor Hancock will sign the card and unveil the renaming of Bannock St. to “Broncos Boulevard” for the rest of the week.
  • In partnership with the Civic Center Conservancy, Mayor Hancock is also inviting fans to lunch in Civic Center with local food trucks selling Denver’s culinary delights from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. Fans can bring canned goods to Civic Center Park beginning Friday for the “Cans from Fans” food drive co-hosted by the Broncos and FoodWorks Colorado.
  • The City and County Building will be lit with orange and blue every night until game day.
  • The Denver International Airport sign on Peña Boulevard and several large LED signs along 14th Street will be illuminated with orange and blue lights.
  • “Go Broncos” messages will be installed on 6,000 smart parking meter screens throughout Denver.
  • The Denver International Airport train will feature a Broncos message from John Elway, and DIA employees and ambassadors will wear “Mile High Magic” buttons.
  • Broncos mascot Miles’ jersey will be hung on the downtown Pavilions, as pictured below.
  • Mayor Hancock will participate in another mayor-to-mayor wager, this time with Boston’s Mayor Tom Menino.
  • The wayfinder sign lights along the 16th Street Mall will be changed to orange and blue.
  • The city is encouraging Downtown Denver building owners to display orange and blue lighting.
  • AM 850 KOA’s live game coverage will be broadcast over the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park sound system for ice skaters to enjoy. On Saturday, the Southwest Rink is open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Skating is free, and skate rentals are free if skaters wear orange or a Broncos jersey.
  • Below is the official proclamation from the Mayor’s office:

COLORADO SUPREME COURT JUSTICE PENS POEMS

Colorado Supreme Court Justice Greg Hobbs is as big a Broncos fan as anyone, and checked in with two poems he wrote about the team as it prepares to travel to New England to take on the Patriots this Saturday.

    Rocky Mountain Thunder

    Salute the Patriots!
Paul Revere, John Adams, Emily Dickinson,
the Oxbow of the Connecticut River the Hudson River
painters revered as the opening to the West.

    Destiny calls!
Through forest and plains the Great Divide stands
for open country at the heart of the continent,
Ride, you Rocky Mountain thunder, Ride!

    -Greg Hobbs 1/11/2012

    Orange Glow in the West!

Scientists call the orange glow in the West
    a scientific phenomenon

Poets and travel agents say the sun tucks the peaks
to sleep every night on its way to Hawaii

Others favor a more theological explanation,
    “God’s Country!”

Las Vegas bettors won’t give you any odds on that.

But, I’m a judge dependent on a careful analysis of all the facts
    and rational well-crafted arguments . . .

    Go Tebow! Go Broncos!

    6. millerqbkiller says:

we cant forget that dan orvlasky and the winless colts almost beat the pats and so did the crappy redskins. i think we will win this game with our defense playing lights out and our rushing attack keeping brady sidelined.

    7. millerqbkiller says:

man watching this denver pats replay is making me sick thinking how bad we coulda pounded this team if we woulda not melted down in the second qtr also all the missed tackles that coulda saved our butts.

    8. OrangeTsunami says:

Does anyone else want to see the old early Elway uniforms as a throw back for a game or two per season?

    9. millerqbkiller says:

hopefully tebow doesnt take a 29 yard sack again lol

    11. RH709 says:

Limit turnovers, tackle better, get some pressure on Brady and run run run.

We do these things and its AFC Championship game for us.

    12. WieminCA says:

My wife and I were at my son’s house in Golden for the game last Sunday – watched it with him and his sick wife … what a glorious win, and to be there made for one of my all time memories … when #88 was running down the sidelines we were really going NUTS … I’m sure all of you have your own memory of that game – just wanted to share mine with you …

Now back in SoCal … Saturday it will be only me and my wife watching, but that’s okay … it’ll be just as loud if we can pull it off … the video of the “miked” Dummervil and Roethlesburger is really neat – lets us know what goes on on the sideline … some of the comments they made are priceless … and Dum, like a lot of the players, was actually surprised to learn the game was over … wow …

If Risky305 is right-on w/ the statistics, then his score is also realistic … it CAN be done … and, like Champ says, a liitle bit of “belief”, and a LOT of hard work, and it CAN happen … I’m not going to pick against my Broncos this time – so – I think the final score will be ……………

      Broncos 34
      Patriots 31

And WHO, among all of us, ever dreamed the Broncos would still be preparing for another game on Jan 12??? … this is really all gravy!!!!

    13. WieminCA says:

My thinking is – like the Steelers – the Patriots can hardly believe they have to take the Broncos seriously … oh, they’ll SAY they do, but deep down I bet it’s hard to get ready … that HAS to work in the Broncos favor …

    14. thecladybunch says:

Play man to man, much like Pittsburgh, bring 8 or 9 depending on the down and distance and no turnovers. WE GOT A SHOT!!! all we can ask for.. Lets get some !!!!

    18. timmah says:

So I know this is kinda a buzz kill and I just got off work. Earlier I was watching skip and he said that the broncs locker room pit against tt after the kc game, even champ said something. I havent heard anything and stuff but just out of curiousity is that true or are they just puffing smoke? I also thought John fox and John Elway put their full faith in tebow as the starter for the long haul a couple of weeks ago? Skip said they still don’t believe in Timmy boy. Just want to see if I missed something significant.
      Go Broncos!!!!

    19. canadasbroncfan says:

      whats a locker room pit

    20. timmah says:

      like pitting against someone

    21. tnalen66 says:

Its so nice to hear ESPN etc.. talkn about the Broncos and playoffs. Its been so long i forgot about playoff football. I don’t want it to end either. Win this one for DECKER! If we win the Super Bowl Bowlen can say ” this one’s for CHAMP!”

    22. canadasbroncfan says:

win or lose TT is the starting qb next year. Denver and half of the usa would burn down if he isnt, elway aint that stupid.

    23. timmah says:

the broncs veterans after the kc game were just saying they couldn’t win the way they were playing against buffalo and kc and skip bayless makes it sound like they were talking about tt and how they lost faith in him. I didn’t get that feeling. I thought they were just saying that about the whole offense, but I thought maybe I missed something that made skip say that or is it just huff from espn?

    24. tnalen66 says:

Its funny that the RAMS are interviewing coaches and had ZERO interest in Mc Denial! A lot of time teams will interview and sometimes hire OC or DC from the past staff. Bradford must of hated Mc Denial.

    42. sndvl says:

      No love from Love-

On Wednesday, Patriots defensive tackle Kyle Love served as the voice for many when he proclaimed he was sick of Tebowmania.

“I can’t speak for everybody, I can just speak for myself, I can say that it does (get old) for me,” Love said. “It gets to the point where you get tired of hearing it. You just have to keep your TV off if you don’t.”

Broncos tight end Daniel Fells made it clear negative comments like Love’s find their way into Denver’s locker room.

“I love listening to people hate on us,” Fells said Wednesday, according to ESPN.com . “I mean, you can hate if you want to, but we’re still here and we’re moving forward. The more you hate, the more we feed off of it.”

The Broncos snapped a three-game losing streak with their upset victory over the Steelers in the wild-card round. Many experts give the Broncos a far slimmer chance of winning in the divisional round against the Patriots .

      That’s just fine with Fells.

“I like being the underdog,” he said, “because no one’s giving you a chance and you get to prove everyone wrong — just like we have all year.”

If these boasts don’t do it for you, just plug in Tom Brady for Love and Tim Tebow for Fells. Pretty awesome now, right?

Im cheering from Florida, shifted to a Bronco fan for Tebow… But I have learned to love the whole team! I love em all, Tebow, McGahee, Miller, Dumerville, Royal, Decker :( , Thomas, Ayers, Carter, Williams, all of them! Love you guys… Denver I ask you make it loud, show your support, pray to god leading up to the game and once a quarter game day… but most of all… BELIVE & HAVE FAITH!!!! Love you Broncos!!!

    44. BeastFromEast92 says:

Anybody catch Jimmy Fallon’s pathetic mockery of Tebow and Jesus Christ last night?

Seems like everyone wants to make fun of him or hate on him,but they know any gimick that has Tebow in it makes for high ratings!!!

I was gonna paste the link, but figured I wouldn’t,it will only piss you off if you watch it.

One persons view”I wonder if they realize that the more they make fun of Tebow the more popular he becomes”.

Can’t wait for the game, there couldn’t be a better stage…Saturday Night Game, against the top seed in the AFC,we are primed with Op-Thomas Prime,it will probably be the most watched game this year(last week against the Steelers was the most watched game since the SB).
