Opponent Rewind: Chicago Bears

December 8th, 2011 - 9:45am by Stuart Zaas

The Chicago Bears fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in a defensive battle that saw just 13 total points scored between the two teams. The Chiefs managed the game’s lone touchdown on their way to a 10-3 victory.

Chicago got on the board first with a 32-yard field goal from Robbie Gould early in the second quarter. The Chiefs responded with a touchdown on a 38-yard Hail Mary pass from Tyler Palko that was deflected into the arms of Dexter McCluster as time expired in the first half.

Ryan Succop tacked on a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter to wrap up the scoring.

The Bears suffered major blow in the first quarter when running back Matt Forte left the game with a knee injury. Marion Barber filled in for Forte and finished with 44 yards on 14 carries. Caleb Hanie, playing in place of injured quarterback Jay Cutler, completed 11-of-24 passes, was sacked seven times and threw three interceptions.

one thing i have noticed since we have been winning is i have spent a lot less money watching the games when we were losing we rarely were televised so i would have to go to the bar to watch games and losing so bad made me rack up bills usually over 50 bucks every sunday but now i can watch at my house and not drink outa anger its great.lol go broncos

  2. daddybronc says:

We love you Carnage and you have your place. It is unfortunate for you that you have been shelved and labeled. But, you have contributed that by undue negativity at times. I am probably more guilty than others at publishing those labels. My intent is to enhance the drama and entertainment of the blog to the degree that I’m able. It is certainly not an effort to be a personal affront to you.

Truth be told – your recent reasonable posts have me worried a bit. From whence comes the backlash if you are not there?

Bay mentioned the other day that you were entertaining and referred to a post by you that I couldn’t find. Have you been edited?

  3. cbroncoguy says:

So very glad that Von Miller will be back for this game.

    Denver- 20 Chicago- 7

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  4. Bronco_Turtle says:

anybody that want’s to get some film time of the 5 heisman candidates should tune into ESPN Classic today…

They are running replays of each players biggest games from this season… on now is Stanford/Notre Dame… Baylor/Oklahoma was the game they showed prior

  5. Bronco_Turtle says:

After reviewing the schedule that the Raiders face they will be hard pressed to get to 9 wins… :o ) :o )

I don’t think they will beat GB, DET or SD and their only W will come in a tight game in KC where Orton plays well trying to get himself ready for his Coup’de’gras against VON DOOM… No way Orton plays all four quarters if he starts the Denver game in WK 17

I try not to get ahead of myself… and I won’t but I’m really liking the way this shapes up long term for the Orange and Blue…

I really think the Denver Offense will have a big game again this week…I’m going out on a limb, with Chicago’s season long trouble in the secondary, and predicting that both DMT and Deck have 100 yard games…

There is a stat that keeps popping up over and over… more than 30 runs, less than 20 passes = 90 percent success rate over the history of the league… This suits Tebow to to a T!!!

  6. G_moneycricket says:

The Denver Broncos were always meant to be an option offense. McDaniels passed up the prolific Dez Bryant to draft a relatively unknown Demaryus Thomas from Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech runs the best flex-bone option in football. There is nothing new about option football but the option we run the read option/zone option is the latest and most effective form of option attack.

  7. G_moneycricket says:

Oregon HC Chip Kelly runs a great zone option/read option so it has been around, but not for more than ten years.

  8. dendins says:

Any updates on Injury status from Broncos, the last I saw Royal, Clady and McG were doubtful.

  9. G_moneycricket says:

Did I say that the option we run the read option/zone option is the latest greatest form, oops scratch that lol@me ha ha. The Te-Bone option is what it is called now.

  10. LyMster says:

HaHa cricket, we call it Te-bone offense while the teams we play against will call it the Te-boned offense after we win.

  11. G_moneycricket says:

    OOOOOOO Te-boned is ab-Salute-ly correct.

  12. RH709 says:

7 of 8 espn guys pick Denver to win against Chicago. No, it was not Merril Hodge who picked Chicago. It was Golic.

Merril hodge picked us? Im sure he will claim its cause of our defense lol.

  13. strandoftds says:

Hoge isn`t picking the Broncos because he thinks there good, he knows that the Bears suck that badly. Hoge is still a jerk.

  14. carnagebronc says:

I have had a busy week converting Tebow believers into realist here in VA…..I dont say the sky is falling….i am happy we are winning and TT is “growing” unfortunately, I believe ORTON that is rigt ORTON will keep us out of the playoffs….I SEE defeat at the hands of the Bears and Pats these next two weeks….then, maybe an upset of Buffalo….not a sure bet though….and then a loss to the ORTON led Chiefs….not because I feel Orton is better…but i think the dreaded thing will happen…..a team playing our offense for a second time…..and somehow….i think San Diego wins the division…..Tebow fans want him to stay….Elway says no….upgrade with RGIII a faste, more elusive TT with a better arm….there will be dissension in Broncoland….the TT fans will revolt….BRONCO fans will adjust….life will go on…I WILL ACCEPT MY CRITICISMS NOW……

  15. daddybronc says:

    Haha – Carnage

Now – when the Broncos win out or win 3 out of 4, do you join the Tebow Train for the post-season?

When the Broncos get to the AFC Championship game, do we get a Carnage statement-of -fact that Tebow offers the Broncos the best chance to win, and Tebow ought to be the starter in the fall of 2012?

  16. carnagebronc says:

Uhhhhh…..NEVER…..i think this year is fun….no TEBOW long term though…..

  17. daddybronc says:

    Hoge is irrelevant! NLOL.

  18. millerqbkiller says:

wow carnage thats all just WOW

  19. daddybronc says:

    SO Carnage –

Would you admit that there is a specific body of football skills that you believe adds up to championships?

  20. millerqbkiller says:

carnage you must not like winning orton is a loser and will not beat denver week 17 he will beat himself maybe or beat his head against a wall after throwing 3 picks in a losing effort. lmao

  21. G_moneycricket says:

    lol@carne
The running game has always been and always will be the wisest method of moving the ball. There are many ways to move the ball that work effectively, but the NFL is called a passing league, meanwhile most mistakes that happen in football happen in the passing game. I really hope Orton’s finger is ready to go for week 17 because Orton is the 2nd easiest QB to sack behind Blaine Gabbert Tebow stiff armed a min lb while keeping his eyes down field and completed a pass on the move, Tebows stiff arm was amazing but he did it subconsciously Which should really shut you up.

  22. strandoftds says:

wishful thinking Carnage. Nice try dude.

  23. strandoftds says:

It`s funny what can happen when a team jumps into a possible platoff position. I just checked out Walterfootball mockdraft 2012. Last week we were at #17 in the first round and now are at #25. Funny how that works. this mock has a taking a DT. LOL

  24. strandoftds says:

    Playoff

  25. denver0723 says:

Carnage, you say BRONCO fans will adjust. Perhaps YOU should be a Bronco fan and adjust to the fact that TEBOW is our QB. Our team is playing very well right now, and while the playoffs is no sure thing, I think they are playing well enough to get in. You love to point out how Tebow fans are blind in their praise of him. You sir, are blind in your hate. You are so dead set on believing Tebow is terrible, that you don’t see that our TEAM is 7-5 with playoff hopes. While the rest of us relish in our team and our success, you continue to hate on Tebow. A lot of us are excited about Tebow, myself included. But nobody on here is so blind to think he did it by himself. We have constantly praised the defense and Von Miller in particular. We have showered praise on Prater and Colquitt also as of late. Sorry that we choose to show excitement about the fact that Tebow is showing improvement every week. How dare we be optimistic about the chances of him continuing to develop. And how dare we recognize a team that has been winning while he has been the QB. The only thing us Bronco fans need to adjust to is how to handle success. Because we have not had any experience in that area for several years now.

  26. RH709 says:

I only bring Hodge up cause I love to laugh at his lack of intellect.

Carnage. I feel for you man. Lets pretend for a second that we make the playoffs, Tebow is named the starter for 2012 and no QB is drafted this year…next year will be a long one for you sir.

G_money. There is blarring mistakes made in the run game all the time. The same mistakes that have made our defenses look bad in the past and the same mistakes others seem to be making against Tebow this year…Bad Tackling.
With the shift to a passing league, good tackling practices have declined.

Except Champ and Dawk of course.

  27. G_moneycricket says:

Mistakes happen in the run game no doubt. Just how there is no mistake that we are #1 in the run game.

  28. strandoftds says:

0723, straight from the heart, I like it.

  29. HardHitting27 says:

Tebow has shown more improvement in his game in 7 weeks than Orton has in 7 years.

    ’nuff said.

But as is stated here already, it ain’t all Tebow doing it. It’s the TEAM. And I for one am very excited with the TEAM right now.
The play of individuals contributes to the TEAM. Be that Miller being a beast, Doom wreaking havoc, Bailey being the steady force, Dawk another beast, #23 running wild, Tebow improving week by week and the WRs being unselfish, to the Special teams is just awesome.

    But it’s TEAM!!!

    Go Broncos!!!

  30. strandoftds says:

By the way, the Broncos are favored by 4.

Pretty sure that I picked Broncos 27-10. I have no ryhme or reason to the scores I pick, so there’s no hope you or anybody else trying to figure out my “system” for winning is out of luck cause it’s just that, luck. Didn’t even come close to any 1st places last year.
I enjoy your “ramblings” because it often brings a Bronco moment back from the depths of my memory banks and I delight in being able to share them with all the comparitively new Bronco fans. Keep in mind that I’ve been a died in the wool Bronco fan since about 1965.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

Carnage is just overreacting telling us to take a chill pill exactly in the same way Tebow faithfuls are over reacting over their visions of SBs and Canton enshrinement. I see absolutely nothing more unreasonable in his view than the Tebow’s disciples’ view, that’s why I have been somewhere in the middle like Elway I’m sure, hoping for the best and bracing for unrealistic expectations.

You all need to get along as Bronco fans!

  33. Londonbronco30 says:

    SCORE PREDICTION

    BRONCOS – 23

    BEARS – 10

    Don’t miss it Bay :-)

  34. BeastFromEast92 says:

We are supposed to be one big Bronco Family…don’t need any cheap shots or Head shrinks either, imo.

  35. Londonbronco30 says:

Sorry all – does anyone happen to sit on the information of our draft picks next year and what round they fall in. Just curious and wanted to have a think about where we most need picks to improve further on the great improvement this year.

    Thanks London

  36. Londonbronco30 says:

Going to sleep now but hope to find an answer in the morning.

  37. WieminCA says:

Carnage makes some very valid points – I’ve said before that I think the Chargers will win out – so it behooves the Broncos to win at least 2 of 4 … that said – I’ve tried to “rationally analyze” to pick a score for the last 5 games, and I haven’t been close to right yet … we could just as easily have lost each of those games, but since we won them, something is going on here … it happens to teams … both good and bad … that’s one reason we seem to have a different Super Bowl champ every year … I really can’t figure this Bronco team out, except to say they’re young and aggressive and footballs bounce funny … (San Diego State basketball team did amazing last year, then “graduated” 4 of the first 5 players, including their whole front line, leaving this year’s team inexperienced and guard-heavy, so what do they do – start out 9 – 2 – go figure) … my “analysis” says this weeks game should be Bronco-won, 19 – 16, but last week I didn’t see Minnesota scoring more than 16 and look what they did … anyway – the Jury still needs a lot more evidence before voting on Tebow’s place in things, but he sure has compiled a nice dossier to begin with …

I think most of you guys short change Orton … he’s certainly not Peyton Manning, but he’s that type of quarterback … whereas that type of QB relies on threading the ball on tight patterns, Tebow’s success has come mostly from “broken-play” type of situations … Orton had one top-flight WR to work with, and the rest were mainly young and inexperienced or lower level ability guys … if you watched the Chargers/Jags game Monday night, you could see what an experienced QB/WR/TE group can do … those guys know on every play where the other will be and when they’ll be there – Rivers just waits an increment of time, and then throws the ball to the spot where he KNOWS his receiver will be … and they know that when they get there, the ball will be there … they’ve done it so many times it’s ridiculous … Orton never had the luxury of having that kind of receivers or longevity … you could see in the Chargers/Broncos game what missing some of those pieces or not having the time he needed brought Rivers back to the ranks of the commonplace … maybe Orton would/will never get to that place, either because he’s not good enough or he always has a mediocre supporting cast, we may never know … but the guy doesn’t operate in a vacuum – he needs help …

For Tebow – most of his success has come when he’s almost ad-libbing, and even the inexperienced guys have time to get open … or the defense is really sub-par, like last game against the Vikings … there’s nothing “precision” about his play so far, both because of his inexperience and the inexperience of his supporting cast … he’s definitely an exciting player, and when he has to ad-lib he can really make things happen … he has this uncanny ability to nose out the path through the defensive maze and get into the end zone … right now he really is a FB/RB/TE playing quarterback, and in the context of what they want him to do he’s doing it very, very well … but you know – adversity will come … the ball will bounce funny against the Broncos … and they will lose … it’ll be very interesting what Belichek devises to shut him down … it must frustrate the hell out of opposing coaches to hold the Broncos to 50 yards in the first half, and then get the hell beat out of them in the 2nd …

One last thing about Orton – those first 5 games were out of the gate when neither our defense or offense had any identity … new coaches, lots of new players, new system – everybody getting their feet wet … actually, we could have gone into the tank after the Lions game, and it’s to the credit of both the coaches and the players that they didn’t … and – REALLY – if we don’t recover that on-side kick against Miami, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation … our WHOLE SEASON revolves around that ONE PLAY!!!!!!

  38. WieminCA says:

    Bay – I wasn’t clear – I WILL pick …

    Broncos – 19
    Bears – 16

For what it’s worth … I’m not very optimistic …

Daddy Bronc – how’d the game go?? … We got waxed 23 – 6 … gave them 5 or 6 outs in every inning … and they were the last place team …

    I HATE games like that!!!!

  39. Louisianabroncofan says:

I’m not exactly in the tebow ‘middle’, I’m more on the negative side but not full on against him. I am seeing a potential problem building here. Tebow will paint elway into a corner if he pulls out a few more wins, cuz tebow faithful will not let him replace tebow in any way, and I still don’t think tebow is the answer long term. And neither does he. Our d helps us tremendously with an offense that doesn’t do a whole lot consistently, and we keep squeaking out wins against average competition. That won’t bring championships regularly, and that’s what it’s all about. Imagine an elite qb playing on our o along with our d. Sky would be the limit. I love winning tho and that’s what we’re doing, but for how long? With tebow, not gonna be for long enough IMO.

  40. strandoftds says:

We got to give kudos to our defense and ST`s too, without a solid D and Tebow and the offense, there is no win streak. Once again kudos to the D.

  41. Louisianabroncofan says:

They have a poll question goin on NFL networks Thursday night kickoff.

Who is the most clutch qb?
    1 Tom Brady
    2 Aaron Rodgers
    3 Ben Roethlisberger
    4 Tim Tebow

Good company to be in right there!!

  42. baylinorcrush says:

That’s easy, right now Aaron Rodgers hands down.

  43. Louisianabroncofan says:

    Agreed

  44. baylinorcrush says:

And Wiemin, thanks for the clarification, I was freaking out for a minute there, LOL.

Btw, way to hold it down in London!! I spent a semester across the pond back during my University days, and I fell in love with it over there! Who wouldn’t like a proper pint in the middle of the day?! LOL I almost didn’t want to come back to the States when it was time.. Keep the Bronco spirit alive in the UK brother!!!

  47. pokoya says:

First off, I haven’t extended my sympathies to Knowshon Moreno, after he went down with season ending injury…I wish him the best, and a strong recovery. It is hard to predict the Bears — I don’t think of them necessarily as a running team, not after watching them pass against the Eagles, and the Lions. Perhaps they will be more one-dimensional with Hanie in for Cutler, but I don’t take that as a given. Marion Barber ran with authority against the Eagles interior line, but I feel that the Bears will pass, and pass deep if they need to — or want to. Under Coach Lovie Smith, Bears will certainly go for ball turnovers on defense — it sure simplifies the task for a Defense, and obviously, that is true for our Defense as well. I expect a hard hitting contest, but be careful about making mistakes by trying to go for more than what is really there. (Stay in your head, and protect the ball). There may be a willingness to be more “explosive” on offense, whether through the introduction of audibles at the line, or just a willingness to take more deep shots in the game — and I don’t think that would be bad, given that opposing teams are becoming more aware that, “oh, and by the way, Mr. Tebow can pass, too!”…..but, I would recommend remaining patient — but alert and opportunistic, which remains a great strength of this team. Best wishes to the Denver Broncos, against the Chicago Bears!
