Notebook: Outlook for Sunday

October 28th, 2011 - 2:55pm by Kenny Legan

The Broncos came out to practice Friday with some lingering snow still piled up along the outer edges of the field. But that didn’t get in their way as they ran through a full practice preparing for the Detroit Lions.

Most of the team was out in full force, but there were a few players who Head Coach John Fox listed on the last injury report before gameday.

Running back Willis McGahee did not participate and Fox ruled him out of Sunday’s contest with a hand injury. Defensive end Elvis Dumervil (ankle) and defensive tackle Marcus Thomas (knee) were limited and listed as questionable for Sunday while safety Brian Dawkins (illness) was also limited but probable. Tight end Julius Thomas participated in full and is also listed as probable.

Coach Fox addressed Dumervil’s injury, saying he will be re-evaluated in the coming days leading up to the game.

“He’s been a Pro Bowl player,” Fox said. “He’s got those types of abilities. We are obviously better with him than without him. He’ll be day-to-day and a game-time decision. We’ll see how it goes.”

While Dumervil is listed as questionable, it appears as if Julius Thomas could make his first game appearance since the Cincinnati game on Sept. 18, when he injured his ankle. Thomas has practiced in full all week and would give quarterback Tim Tebow an added weapon in the offense.

Fox said that with the assistance of the medical staff, he’s confident in Thomas’ ability to play in a game.

“We do a pretty good job, our coaches do an outstanding job, our medical people do an outstanding job of getting in game condition in practice,” Fox said. “That’s why we’re out here practicing every day. There’s not quite the adrenaline probably in practice as it is in games, but I’m sure he’ll react just fine.”

WOODYARD MVP DINNER

Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard is hosting a dinner to benefit his 16Ways Foundation Tuesday night, Nov. 1, at Sullivan’s Steakhouse. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

The evening will include a silent auction, a meet and greet with Woodyard and his fellow teammates and a four-course meal served by none other than the Broncos players themselves.

“We’re just going to be the servers,” Woodyard said. “We’re serving the food so they’re going to order and we’re going to bring it out so hopefully we can have some smiles and everybody laughs.”

Woodyard doesn’t have any serving experience, but said that shouldn’t get in the way of ability to help out.

“I think I’m just going to stick to bussing the tables,” Woodyard said. “It’ll be pretty fun.”

Woodyard’s foundation focuses on giving back to at-risk kids in the community and working with them. He hopes to be a mentor and positive influence to kids growing up.

“That’s something that’s been lost throughout the decades and something that I’ve been doing since I was in a position to give back,” Woodyard said.

Tickets for the event can be purchased through the event’s website at http://wesleywoodyardmvpdinner.eventbrite.com/.

TEBOW ON TEBOWING

There’s been a new fad circulating the internet this week called ‘Tebowing.’ The official website lists the act as a verb meaning, ‘To get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different.’ The pose is taken from one Tebow took just after the team’s win against the Dolphins.

Tebow said that the act of getting on a knee and praying is a serious matter to him, but he’s aware some people might not be taking it as seriously. However, for the people that do, he’s happy to be an example.

“It’s not my job to see what people’s reasons are behind it,” Tebow said. “But I know, like a kid that tweeted me with cancer and said, “I’m Tebowing while I’m chemoing.” How cool is that? That’s worth it right there for that kid. If that gives him any encouragement or just puts a smile on his face or gives him encouragement to pray, then that’s really awesome and that’s completely worth it for me.”

Tebow said he supports the movement and hopes it encourages people to follow his lead.

“I think that’s a pretty cool thing and it’s stepping out for something that you either believe in or that you want to show or if you just want to pray, either way it’s pretty cool,” Tebow said.

  26. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

I don’t think db ment any harm bro, I think he was just trying to blog with you. When he said: “BFE – Doesn’t it make you feel like ….you said something wrong that silenced the posts.” He said that because when he’s blogged in the past (and this has happened to me plenty) everybody just seems to stop blogging with him. I think he was just trying to be cool with you. He always says: “there goes daddybronco killing a perfectly good blog.” I’m sure he didn’t mean to sound condescending bro.

I notice that he tends to blog late too and hasn’t had the full experience of the ‘strand and BFE Bronc on late night show’ as shown by this comment of his: “You’re from the East and it’s late there…only ten oc’lock here. Guess ever body went to bed???” I think he was trying to joke around.

db: sometimes if you put a ‘lol’ or something like that it will show that you were just messing around, it’ll lighten up the way your quote is received and show your true perceived meaning; I know you didn’t mean anything disrespectful — or don’t think you did but just a tip there.

  32. oldsouthstander says:

The best thing about the Miami win is that those espousing the EFX Suck for Luck conspiracy have shut up. But, who is in the Suck for Luck sweepstake?
Lets assume that over 2 wins and you’re our:
1a) Indy with an excellent chance of going 0-16.
1b) Miami also with a great shot at 0-16
    2) St. Louis is a long short as they play the Seahawks and Cardinals twice.
    3) Arizona is also a long shot as the play the Seahawks and Rams twice.
    4) Minnesota a very long shot as they have AP.
    5) Extremely long shots are any team with 2 wins already.

Wow this is a quiet blog this morning. I read BFE and laughed. I would have talked to you BFE but I had to go to bed. I am in the east and it is hard for me to stay up so late since I can’t sleep past 8am. LOL

  37. seweatherman1 says:

shaztah, BFE is in NC I think and I am in SW FL. So I don’t think that you are much farther east than that.

  38. shaztah says:

    Nope, in Okeechobee Florida :)

  39. daddybronc says:

I hope BFE is not up yet. Prolly needs to be sleeping it off. <LOL Seems we had a good coast to coast fight and I was asleep already. HA.

Royalty read me the way I meant to be understood – you never offended me at all – but to read your rant this morning was pretty entertaining. Thanks.

Still trying to figure out what links can be posted on the blog – this was a fun article.

You have by exactly 60 miles to my east shaz. Spent a lot of time in Okee town. Great eateries with some great fresh lake catfish.

  42. seweatherman1 says:

I hope all these other teams spend every waking minute trying to figure out how to stop TT from running and all. That will open it up for our runners and receivers. If they concentrate on trying to take TT down all he will have to do is get it to our runners so they can go.

  43. daddybronc says:

Shaz – I was born in GA. One of my fav childhood memories was alligator wrestling in a parking lot at Okefenokee Swamp. You near there?

  44. shaztah says:

I don’t eat seafood and I am moving in March. Gotta take hubby back home. He has cerebal palsy and can’t find a job here so we are moving to Gainesville which is where he is from. Better opportunity for both of us.

  45. shaztah says:

Daddy I am quite a bit North of the everglades. I am in the center of the state.

  46. shaztah says:

I was born in Michigan but have been in Okeechobee since 1984. I just got my BA and I am ready for a change.

  47. daddybronc says:

Shaz – I thought you might have typoed but weathermans response would indicate not so. Okefenokee doesn’t have to be anywhere near Okeechobee.

  48. seweatherman1 says:

I was going to say, the Okefenokee is several hundred miles from Okeechobee. Great place to go for some peace and quiet if you are into outdoors living any at all. Really beautiful area.

  49. shaztah says:

I am watching the Michigan game and the commentators are all saying that there are at least 10 mobile QB in the big 10 alone. Just think all of these QB will be entering the NFL and I said a while back that the face of the NFL QB’s will be changing. The age of the prototypical in the pocket passer (statue) is going to quickly become obsolete. I know Tim will improve his timing on passes every week and his mobility will be so beneficial. He will work hard to improve no doubt.

  50. roya1fantasy says:

Loooks Like BFE won that fight the second the bell rang. Then Instead of raising his hands in victory he grabbed a beer for each hand and poured em down his throat while kicking his oppenent over and over in the face. All while screaming “YOU ARE NOT MY DADDY!!” lol JK. n e ways

That pic of Lynch and FOx…

It looks like Lynch is thinking “wtf is this!?!?!?” and Fox is looking on at his team thinking “why are you guys embarassing me..ugh…not while lynch is here!”

    i’m dumb lol

    GO BRONCOS
