Wide receiver Andre Caldwell had one of the biggest highlights from Wednesday’s practice, hauling in a deep touchdown on a throw from quarterback Caleb Hanie.
“That’s my motivation every day – to come out here and prove to everybody that I should be out there on the field making plays,” Caldwell said. “I can be a household name and help this team win ball games.”
Caldwell explained that on that route in particular, he was one-on-one with a cornerback, gave him a quick move inside and then used his speed to run underneath Hanie’s pass.
That speed, Caldwell said, allows him to play outside receiver, but he said he feels comfortable playing as a slot receiver as well.
Regardless of where he lines up, he’s excited to have quarterback Peyton Manning throwing him the ball.
“Peyton signing here had a big impact on my decision,” he said. “I wanted to go to a passing offense with a quarterback who could get the ball to me and use a bunch of receivers, just let us make plays. From what I have seen of Peyton in the past, he makes the receivers look great. He puts the ball in the right spot so we can’t help but catch it. Just put your hands out, it’s going to lay right in the basket.”
FOX: HIATUS ‘EVIDENT’
At the end of the session, Head Coach John Fox called practice “good,” with a caveat.
“I think it was evident — particularly offensively — we were on a four-and-a-half day hiatus,” he said. “But, that’s what happens when you get a little break. I think they enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend and now we just have to get back to business.”
Manning, wide receiver Eric Decker and tight end Joel Dreessen must have agreed, as the three stayed on the field after practice, working on routes and timing.
But Fox is still happy with where the offense stands in late May.
“We are way further along this year than we were a year ago without any offseason,” he said. “We’re making good progress. Guys are working at it hard. We’ve had excellent participation. We just have to continue to improve. Today we had a little bit to be desired, but I’m sure they’ll get back in the flow of things for tomorrow.”
DREESSEN HOME, HARD AT WORK
Dreessen, who played college football at Colorado State University, is excited to be back in the state.
But he’s past the “welcome home” phase as practices pick up in intensity.
“I know we’ve been talking about how great it is supposed to be for me to come back home, but it’s been a lot of work so far,” he said. “That’s what it’s going to be — I’ve got a job to do. I’m over the Colorado thing.”
That doesn’t mean he’s not thrilled to be with the Broncos — “This is where I’m going to be as good as I can possibly be,” he said.
The tight end said OTAs have been a big benefit in particular so that he can get used to all of the calls Manning makes at the line of scrimmage. He and the rest of the offense are getting “more and more comfortable” as the practices go on at a quick pace.
“We’re very high-tempo, getting things done — we’re moving very efficiently,” Dreessen said. “I’m pretty sure that practice is your conditioning, so you’ve got to move fast and get into shape that way.”
FANNIN GETTING ‘BACK TO NORMAL’
Running back Mario Fannin, who was placed on IR after suffering a knee injury in training camp last season, said he’s been working hard with the training staff to get “everything back to normal.”
“Just getting back and working every day to get (my knee) strong,” he said.
The payoff? Being able to take handoffs — and catch passes — from Manning.
“He definitely knows what he’s doing,” Fannin said. “He’s a vet and an All-Star player. He’s very smart and he’s witty and he’s a guy that’s going to lead this team to do great things. It’s always been a dream to catch a pass from a quarterback like that. Now it’s making sure I’m in the playbook and making sure I know everything and what to do and get the job done.”

man when they start posting blogs, they start posting blogs quickly. i was posting on a blog 2 postings ago. crap. i guess i’ll paste and copy it here
Its such a good thing that the offense is getting thing together and that Manning Decker and Dressen stayed after practice to work on getting things down.
repost from previous blog:
I’m not sure why some are chastising the tebow talk. if you dont want to talk about tebow, dont. if you dont want to read about tebow, dont. simple. he was a part of our team very recently and was a big part of the broncos season last year, good and bad. he was the starting qb and 1st round pick. there is no way anyone can legitimately say he shouldnt be talked about or act like talking about him somehow is ‘oldnews’ or inconsequential to the nfl. its not. he’s a big part of the nfl diolague no matter what anyone may think. its offseason, we replaced our starting qb with a completely different qb with a completely different style and its gonna completely change our team dynamic. that is absolutely worth conversing about. it wont stop and it shouldnt for at least this season. so please quit acting like talking about tebow is so taboo. it isnt.
With the NBA draft lottery today I wanna say that the NFL should do what the NBA does when it comes to non playoff teams draft position. This would help keep teams from loosing on purpose as they wouldnt be guaranteed the 1st pick just have better odds of getting it. I have thought this for a while and think it should happen even more now that there is a rookie cap.
Louisiana…so no comment on anything else…. Broncos related, AFC west, Broncos’ defense? Well, nothin shuts down a blog quicker than putting down other bloggers; so about the picture above….. It makes me think of the team all trying to get on the same page, united.
I have always thought that the fans needed something like that. A chant or rant or cheer. We do the ‘In-Com-Plete!!!’ jeer at the games…. I wonder who at the Broncos is in charge of getting something like that going.
007 this is a blog. we blog about what we want to. not what you feel we should. i comment plenty about all things broncos and when something about tebow comes up and i deem it necessary i chime in or even start the convo on it. i’m not putting down anyone, i’m saying that imo its plenty legitimate to discuss tim tebow. you say its not. thats it. no ones wrong or put down by that. i do think the ‘dont discuss tebow on here’ comments are more of a ‘put down’ than ‘i think we should be able to discuss him and heres why’. of course i’m not saying you were putting me down i’m saying if youre going to accuse me of it i think its coming more from you than me. youre trying to push out a subject frequently discussed. why? thats my whole argument. no offense intended. and if it offended you or you felt put down by my words i do apologize. thats never my intent on here.
exciting awwww man just excited to get things going Ik the Broncos will be a dominant team this year its just sooo exciting how the pieces are falling into place
Everyone on the team raise you right hand and repeat our “new chant”, ‘ALL HAIL THE NECK’!!!!
‘ALL HAIL THE NECK’!!!!
‘ALL HAIL THE NECK’!!!!
‘ALL HAIL THE NECK’!!!!
ILMSDB
LOL OC XD
all hail the neck, i’m on board! the neck will bring us good things this season. i cant wait. youre right vegas, the pieces are coming into place and for the first time in years its all making alot of sense all the way down.
Thats right LBF I believe we have what it takes this year to make a serous run, The Broncos have gone through dark days with u know who at the helm but now we have a John Fox a coach that knows how to get a team to the superbowl, John Elway, a man who trully wants best for the team, Im glad he is on board and operating the ship and seeing what all goes on, we have Peyton who was an awsome singning, to guide our offense and a proven leader on and off the field, we now have a awsome D, in Von Miller, Doom and Wolfe, Im just soo excited, in a way it is like playing poker we had a couple of bad hands but now the chips are falling where they may and that is a very good thing
I know there are some spelling errors dang phone XD
Our new QB was #50 in the NFL top 100.
I seen that too AB not bad I thought he would have been top 10 or 5.
Osweiler made the top 100 already??
Man, the only good thing about the offseason is that it’s hella easy to keep up with the comments around here… Lol
Lol OT wrong new QB lol
OC:
ALL HAIL THE Neck! Man you got LMSDB!! Now The Neck LMOL@OC.
You are a spark that can cathch fire! Keep it up! Manning jursy sales passed TT.
ILMSDB!! GO NECK!!
FTR
He should be higher. They asked how I felt about Cam Newton being higher. AB agrees with me, I don’t think Cam Newton should be mentioned in the same sentence as Peyton Manning.
BUT, on to the actual Blog… I am totally stoked that they are already putting in extra reps. Especially because they don’t feel like they’re on the same page. These things make me nuts… Why do we have to wait til August! UGH!!!! Anyone else going nuts?
BLBF!!!!!!!!!!
OT, I just wanted to thank you for all your research on revenues. I never knew ANY of that and now that I do I have one more tool in my pocket for when someone says we’re going to lose money. Thank you sir!
No prob cat! It’s actually pretty interesting stuff IMO. Below is a more detailed explaination, and it’s very interesting to see that those luxury boxes are currently the only thing that’s not shared, altough they are working to remedy that as well. I didn’t realize this either, but it just shows why these teams push for new stadiums, b/c the older stadiums didn’t have these luxury boxes in them..
“The NFL’s revenue-sharing model is universally lauded as the reason pro football continues to thrive in tiny markets like Green Bay, Wisconsin. The bulk of the league’s revenue – approximately $4 billion in 2011 – comes from broadcast deals with NBC, CBS, Fox, ESPN and DirecTV. That income is shared equally among all teams. Income from licensing deals – everything from jerseys to posters to team-logo beer coolers – is also shared evenly.
Ticket revenue is split using a slightly different formula: the home team keeps 60 percent of “the gate” for each game, while the visiting team gets 40 percent.
Other sources of revenue – things like the sale of luxury boxes, stadium concessions and the like – are not shared, which does give teams in bigger markets or with state-of-the-art arenas a significant edge in profitability. The new CBA attempts to remedy that in two ways. First, the league will set aside a percentage of revenue in a stadium fund, which will be used to match teams’ investments in their facilities. Second, there will be an additional “luxury tax” levied on high-revenue teams, with the receipts set to be distributed to the lower-revenue clubs.”
Hm… So, why should they be forced to share the luxury box seat revenue or the concession stand revenue? Are they going to start limiting what you can pay players such as Peyton Manning? And why should KC get money from a NY luxury box?
The luxury boxes and concessions are NOT currently shared, but the NFL will match any monetary upgrades the teams with older stadiums make to upgrade their facilities, to become more competitive. They are also going to tax the very high revenue earners, like the Dallas Cowboys. They are just trying to make every team, whether it’s the Bengals, Cowboys, Jets, or Patriots have the same (or close) revenues to field quality teams
I guess that makes sense. It was probably outrageously different in the early 70s 80s and 90s huh?
I’m not sure cat, but I would imagine that a lot has changed over the years as these revenues have grown exponetially. I also expect things will change again, as revenues will get even bigger, with technology like cell phone app’s being the next big revenue stream IMO. Bottom line – it’s a great time to be an NFL owner, no doubt about it.
*exponentially
OT I bet. It’s so interesting how deeply involved and complicated it all is because I honestly never thought about it. Though it does bug me a smidge that any of my $ goes to the Raiders! LOL!!!!!
u see that loser Gronk is running around with the Kardashian hooker just remember Gronk Reggie Bush already been there lol
Cris Johnson still has his panties in a bunch shoot he is lucky to even be on the top 100 imo
BRONCOS COUNTRY TILL WE DIE!!!!!
Chris Johnson is seriously cracking me up at the moment. Hilarious!!!! GO BRONCOS
Lmao cat! Not a good thought, especially since they’re not selling any jersey’s over there… Us Broncos have been carring the whole league the last few years.. But then again, we didn’t sell a whole of Orton jersey’s… Lol
Gronk is not the classiest guy, let’s just say that.
I will say that Johnson said Manning is best QB in the league if it’s not a list about last season.l. Which it’s not. They said its a list of the best players right now. So, the NFL has got to clear that up! LOL
Ya, tl – they will need all the money they can get after they tank another season this upcoming year.. They better hope McFaddnuts is really good, like expected..
Thanks for the insight OT.. that kind of stuff is real interesting, all the small or BIG details of NFL.
I’m with cat. No raider should be gettin my money! In the 70′s & 80′s they didnt have nearly the revenue sharing and some teams were really poor. Thats part of why there was alot of moving around. And why some teams absolutely dominated. They had money. Revenue sharing turned out to be a good thing in the nfl. Who knew?
I wouldnt touch kardashian with a 30 ft pole. Would not do it man. Hate to post n run but I’m out- just poppin in for a sec. But hey cat, skillz, oc & tsunami. Bronc on!
Somebody hacked the Broncos on twitter and said that we were glad to trade Von Miller for some C Hampton on the Steelers. Hilarious. Just FYI, if Von has anything to say about it, he’ll be a BRONCOFORLIFE! LOL who is Hampton? Twitter is hilarious tonight, between Chris Johnson and this Celtics game. Sheesh.
Anyway, I just have to say that I don’t get why they’re still trying to sell Orton jerseys for 30$. Who wants that jersey?
My bet is there will be quite a few people in third world countries walking around in Kyle Orton Broncos jersey’s very soon.. J/k. On that note, I’m out as well. Later on Broncos Country!
Mark your calendars folks, one week from Saturday is officially the start of Wolfe-time! Can’t wait!
Well folks i am going to be out for the next week in a neighborhood near you lol
jk i will be in Iowa ugh lol
and didn’t mean to scare ya guys i won’t be anywhere near you yall are safe
i should go to Oakland an B-slap some faider fans but maybe another day
Casey Hampton I thought retired?? He is/was a DT/NT/DE for the Steelers.
I doubt Von Miller would ever be traded I would be devastated if he was but it will never happen
Ab… Funny you mentioned the NFL should implement the NBA’s lottery. I was just thinking the exact opposite. I think it would be neat to see the NBA use the NFL’s way of drafting!!! Lol
I was joking about the “third world” comment, as often clothing that doesn’t sell is donated, like Championship tee-shirts already made for the loosing team.. Anyway, I have another busy day today, I’ll check in later and the read all three comments.. Lol. But first, I’m sure most will see this, but I was so excited when I saw this article this morning and I had to share! Turns out he’s listed at 340-350! Siliga needs to be our Chris Harris of 2012!
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_20746617/broncos-defensive-tackle-sealver-siliga-making-most-his
Btw, I agree, I hate the NBA lottery system too..
AB, it was a joke I think, but I still didn’t know who Hampton was. I think he thought it was funny. Stupid people!
I swear those Denver Post guys never sleep. Here’s an article about Elway: http://www.denverpost.com/paige/ci_20746724/john-elways-final-desire-is-become-an-owner
(-;
Good Morning Broncos Country!
Good read on this article re: Sealver Siliga. Hope he has a shot a making the Team, as a starter if he earns it, or as a rotational player at 2 tech DT.
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_20746617/broncos-defensive-tackle-sealver-siliga-making-most-his
“All Hail the Neck” !!!
Looks like OT already posted the link on Silaga… sorry for double post.
well if ty warren is cut then siligia will be an important player. would be great if he turns into an elite dt. its about time that kinda stuff happens to the broncos. if harris and sliigia both pan out to be starters that will be exciting for us. thats what builds great teams, when so many players we aquire become starter quality. that creates great depth and thats very important for a team to become elite. and its our time again to be elite. its been way too long.
Good Morning Broncos Nation! (JUST KIDDING!!!) LMAO
Well, it’s another day of OTA’s and another day closer to the season! Getting more and more excited as the days go by. I firmly believe that we can easily have a top 5 O, of not top 3 and easily a top 10 D, if not top 5 in the league. That combination to me just spells success and will guide us to our first winning season since what, 2006?
GO BRONCOS!
Glad Broncos signed Siliga last year and gave him an opportunity to develop on the practice squad. Sounds like Coach Fox likes what he sees in him. I remember having a conversation with baylinorcrush re: Siliga last year when he went undrafted. Don’t think he was quite ready at the time as he came out of Utah a year early.
