While most of Denver was still asleep, Devon Keyes (pictured above) was already waiting in line outside the Broncos Team Store at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
The new Nike Denver Broncos jerseys went on sale at 6 a.m. and Keyes wanted to make sure he was the first person to get one.
You had to get up pretty early this morning if you wanted that honor, and Keyes did just that. He arrived at the Team Store at 3:45 a.m. — two hours and 15 minutes before the store opened.
“I’m here because I want the first Von Miller jersey,” Keyes said. “It’s bragging rights, mostly.”
Despite already owning two Von Miller jerseys — including an orange one — Keyes wanted to stay official, so with the NFL switching to Nike, he’s doing the same.
Thursday marked the first opportunity for fans to get their hands on the new Peyton Manning Broncos jerseys. Chris Hitchcock arrived at 4 a.m., and after two hours of waiting, he became the first person purchase a Nike Manning jersey.
“There’s just something about being first,” Hitchcock said. “There’s a mystique about it — bragging rights. I can tell all my friends that I’m the first to own the Nike Manning jersey.”
Hitchcock, who is a Broncos season ticket holder, estimates that he already has a dozen Broncos jerseys at home. He said that it was worth waking up early to be the first person to buy a Nike Manning jersey.
“That’s the point, you want to be first,” he said. “There’s something about that that just makes it special.
Scott Franklin, the director of merchandising at the Team Store said that they were expecting several hundred people to come through the store on the first day that the new Nike jerseys were available. He said that the store had about four times as many staff members on hand than usual to accommodate the customers.
Franklin expected the Manning jerseys to be the hot item on the first day of sales.
“That’s the one we’ve been getting calls about ever since he signed,” he said. “The Nike ones are what they want because everybody knows now that we’re going to Nike and going to orange for home games.”
Currently the store is selling Nike men’s replica jerseys of Champ Bailey, Knowshon Moreno, Manning and Miller. They expect to get women’s and youth sizes in later today and authentic Nike jerseys will come in July.
The Team Store and Sports Authority Field will be open until 6 p.m. today before resuming its normal weekday hours of 10 a.m. – 6.p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Broncos Store at Dove Valley is open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Nike Jerseys will be available at the Dove Valley Store beginning at 10 a.m. today.

I have a jersey buying criteria and I haven’t been burned yet. I have a Doom, DJ Williams, and Bailey jersey. They’re all replicas, but the stitched as opposed to iron on name/numbers (I don’t like how the ironed on numbers fade after washing them). Anyway, the criteria is simple. They have to be in year 1 or 2 of their contract of a 4 or 5 year contract (this eliminated guys like Manning and McGahee because they’re old), be a consistent impact/game changer player (eliminates guys like Royal, Carter, Moore, Moreno who I like but are not consistent game changers), have a reasonable contract, no behavior issues (DJ didn’t get in trouble until the last couple of years so the first 4 were good…this eliminated Cutler because I found him unlikable), and I need to feel their in good standing with the front office (this eliminated Tebow and Marshell).

RBF1, I don’t see the Browns taking Doug Martin at 22 … that might just be my bias. Doug has climbed up the boards quickly but not to that point. I still believe that RBs are not that value anymore and will most likely only be one to go in first round. Doug Might go in the firs round but that would be to maybe us or the giants or something. Plus Browns pick pretty early in the secodn round too so they could get doug there as well. I have a feeling only trent will go in the first but once the 2nd round comes aroudn … RBs will be flying off the board. If I was the Browns I would ride with McCoy and pass on Tannenhil. Build a stronger team for McCoy and if he doesnt work out in the next 2 years at least your new QB will be coming to a strong team.

Thx for feedback TRB… yeah “draftologist” Mike Mayock has Browns taking Martin at #22. All depends on if they take Richardson or not. Browns sure look like a great trade partner with two 1st rd picks and early 2nd rd.

Another thign that will throw the draft outta whack is if a guy like Janoris Jenkins goes earlier than expected. The talent is undeniable. He is a kid that smokes pot … we keep forgeting these guys are like 21 lol. Lotta questionable stuff done in college. As long as it isn’t assault or something, i think he is worth giving another chance …and I have a feeling he goes top 15.
