Yesterday we wrote about the proposed rule changes for the 2012 NFL season, and today the owners voted to approve several of the competition committee’s proposals. In order to pass, the proposals required votes from at least 24 of the league’s 32 owners.
The following five rule changes will be enacted for the 2012 season:
- All games that go into overtime will use what had been the postseason overtime rules. This means that both teams will get at least one possession – unless the first team to possess the ball scores a touchdown on its initial drive.
- Instant replay reviews of all turnovers will now be automatic – just as all scoring plays are now automatically reviewed.
- Penalties for having two many men lined up on the field prior to a snap will now be enforced as dead ball penalties, rather than allowing the play to proceed. The Giants took advantage of the previous rule by using 12 defenders during the Patriots’ last-minute drive in Super Bowl XLVI.
- Crack-back blocks on defensive players that are lined up more than two yards outside the offensive tackle at the snap are now illegal. This is designed to help improve player safety.
- Illegally kicking a loose football is now a loss-of-down penalty.
Four proposals were tabled until the league’s next meeting session in May:
- A roster exemption for one player who has suffered a concussion. This is designed to give teams more short-term roster options to replace injured players without placing them on injured reserve.
- A shorter injured-reserve option, which would allow clubs to bring one player back from the injured reserve list after at least eight weeks. This would allow a player who is injured early in the year to recover and return to the roster later in the season.
- Moving the trade deadline back two weeks. Currently the trade deadline is six weeks into the season.
- Expanding training camp roster limits to 90 players. The current roster size for training camp is 80.
What are your thoughts on these changes?

oh, and it’s my birthday today! 38 years old and getting closer to the top of that hill……….but I’m far from over it yet! lol
Happy Birthday kod ! Have a great day!!
Happy Birthday KillerKod! Mine is Sunday…
LAX, Jwscout and BFE- you guys are hilarious…thank you. It’s my hope that this contest is fun, competitive and has great participation. (I realize a portion of our blog contributors may have left…). I also have big shoes to fill. Bay ran a great competition. I hope I can do the same!
RBF 1, the rules of the contest are to select the first four players the Denver Broncos will draft.
If you believe those two selections will be in the first four, then yes. However, the way our official draft board is now, the second 4th round selection will be our 5th pick in the draft…hope that clears it up some?!
Broncos Country Strong 2012!
This was a blog entry by Gray Caldwell on the 3/27 concerning our draft picks!

….I know it’s a long shot, but even with his spotty past, if we could manage to pick up Jenoris Jenkens in the second round that would be a steal!

Orange: Jambalaya is an awesome cajun meal, might work well for you.
Don’t post often but hope to get more involved with all the Bronco Lovers that post here
BTW- can somebody address why Worthy of MSU is not getting much run here. I thought he was supposed to be an herculean D lineman, but don’t hear much about him here. Am i missing something, or do Cox, Poe, etc grade out better?
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_20275702/look-broncos-draft-defensive-tackle-first-round-this Sounds like everyone will get their wish, and we will sign a DT.
Good news mt,I want Cox,but I’ll settle for the best DT available at #25!
bp,I think Cox and Brockers are the 2 best DTs available in the draft, but here is a link to Walterfootball’s rankings:

Beast, Im with ya brother, gimme the BEEF BRO. ROCK ON
Man this draft is loaded at DT…..I mean LOADED!!!!!!!!
If we can get any one of the top 5 DTs I will be happy!
Hell if we go DT in the 1st 2 rounds I wouldn’t gripe!
BRONCO BEEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bigphred – Jerel Worthy was originally predicted to go in 1st rd. One of the bloggers mentioned he did not do as well as anticipated @ Combine.
He is now predicted to be drafted in 2nd rd this year. I didn’t see his workout myself.
Bill Williamson at espn wrote earlier Broncos have showed interest in WR Alshon Jeffery from South Carolina.
We’ve gotta get a DT in the 1st or 2nd round.
I wonder if wr Stephen Hill will be there at #25, great hands and a speedster. I hear he`s a little immature though.
Afternoon Royal. How ya doing my Bronco friend?
What up Strandsky…! and RBF…
I was reading the blog the last 4 hours or so and it reads like a middle school hallway where the cool kids are cutting class and smoking cigarettes waiting to go drink their beer in an abandoned trailer house!!!
LOL Nice….
BFE, you still around buddy?!
AB, You taking a nap?
How you doing strand and Turtle? Good to see your handles on here.
Its the Toytle! Hey Dude?!
I’m doing good RBF… we had 7 calves today so far and looks as though we could have 3 or 4 more before nightfall…
Good day today. Helped a friend of mine go to the junkyard and got a hood and fender for one of his vehicles. We picked up alot of goodys along the way, you know how it is? LOL
What are you up to Strandsky?
More beef, LOL
Turtle, always good to chat with ya bro.
BRONCOS RULE 2012!!!!!!!
agreed Strand!
What do you think of NO trying to get Tuna as their HC for the year? seems like a pretty good intern…
That’s great guys! weathers awesome now!
Hows your day Royal. I hear that Conifer is still uncontained. I built a house out there in 2006 out of ICF. Great times!
You guys think the outlook is changing to possibly picking a WR with 1st pick?
The Tuna is well respected, thats a good call. Is he going for it?
I don`t, but if we do, I hope its Hill. Just me though. We need a DT or Hightower at MLB if he`s there.
1. Fletcher Cox DT or Dont’a Hightower MLB
2. Doug Martin RB
Yeah strand, they evacuated quite a few residents… on heck of a fire!
new blog
Looking at our FA moves I think it’s a foregone conclusion that we will solidify our D front early in this draft. Denver has picked up 2 TEs, 1 WR, and 2 DBs in FA. We have addressed all the positions we needed to except for DT and honestly with the loss of Bunkley Denver is in serious need of a DT….I have no doubt that we will be picking a big man at #25
BFE:
I like your picks for DT’s.
Strands:
After watching Cox I am all in on him!
Anyone think a trade of picks up to get who ever EFX Thinks will be the best DT pick? Cap room is a concern! I am just saying we got good FA class to fill most holes we have!! Could there be a Get the beef trade?
Maybe move up to get the USDA PRIME BEEF?
What do ye say Broncos Country!!
Just me.
LMSDB Draft!!!
FTR
Don’t like the color of that new jersey.
