NFL Modifies Trade Deadline and Injured Reserve

August 30th, 2012 - 6:08pm by Stuart Zaas

Less than one week from the 2012 NFL season opener, the NFL Management Council and NFL Players Association have agreed to adopt 2012 Bylaw Proposals No. 2 and No. 6A, the NFL and NFLPA announced on Thursday.

Bylaw proposal No. 2 moves the trading deadline from Tuesday, October 16 – the Tuesday after Week 6 of the regular season – to Tuesday, October 30, the Tuesday after Week 8.

Bylaw proposal No. 6A permits clubs to re-activate one player from Reserve/Injured during the 2012 season, subject to certain restrictions.

Since this rule is being adopted after the cutdown to 75 players, for 2012 only, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a transition procedure that permits clubs to return to their 53-player active list one player placed on Reserve/Injured since the start of preseason training camp. This selection of that player must be made no later than 9:00 p.m. ET tomorrow, Friday, August 31.

Following the cutdown to 53 players, the new Reserve/Injured rule will work as follows:

  • Only players with a “major injury” who are placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Tuesday, September 4, or thereafter during the season, will be eligible to be reactivated at a later time.
  • A “major injury” is defined as an injury that renders the player unable to practice or play football for at least six weeks (42 calendar days) from the date of injury.
  • Each team may reactivate only one player placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Tuesday, September 4. That player must be “designated for return” at the time the club places him on Reserve/Injured, and such designation shall appear on that day’s Personnel Notice.
  • Such player is eligible to return to practice if he has been on Reserve/Injured for at least six weeks from the date he is placed on Reserve. He is eligible to return to the Active List if he has been on Reserve/Injured for at least eight weeks from the date he is placed on Reserve.

Under these new rules, any one of the current Broncos on Injured Reserve would be eligible to return later in the season — if they are brought back to the active roster by 7 p.m. MDT on Friday. Wide receiver D’Andre Goodwin, running back Mario Fannin, wide receiver Tyler Grisham and defensive end Jason Hunter are the current players on Denver’s Injured Reserve List.

Strand possibly. I am not 100% sure how it works.

  2. AlaskanBronco says:

I also think green is gone and Ingram will be looked at for the ps of course all this I said in my long long post a few blogs back lol

  3. imready says:

I’m still on the Adam Weber band wagon, hope a chance to perform with the “twos” tonight.

  4. strandoftds82 says:

I`m looking forward to these next few days. the Waiver Wire takes a full 24 hours, so we won`t really find anything out until Saturday at the earliest.

  5. strandoftds82 says:

I`m high on the Weber kid. He`s fun to watch. Weber has a touch of Plummer or Flutie to him.

  6. imready says:

I’m pretty sure strand is right about the suspended players. I for one am wondering if DJ will get cut. I started thinking that might be a possibility when V. Green was practicing with the team and playing in pre season and DJ wasn’t.

  7. strandoftds82 says:

AB, Freiger on KOA broke it all down on how it worked and the first thing he said was Williams and Green not counting being on the suspended list to start the season. Kreiger went on to say that leaves 20 more cuts. That was an eye opener for me. HMMMM

  8. sndvl says:

Wait? I thought the game was going to be on at 9pm my time. (CST). What a jip.

I’m gonna sacrafice sleep for my team. For guys who will end up not being on the team. Oh boy. What can I say. I’m a fan(atic)!!!

  9. strandoftds82 says:

    Dave Kreiger I meant.

  10. tlcat06 says:

AB yep! I remember when you said that in your novel, I just totally agree.

Adam Weber. I like that kid.

  11. AlaskanBronco says:

Dj isn’t going to be cut. When he comes back he’s going to be fresh and bring a lot of talent to the field and being fresh later in the season is great because that’s when the playoff push starts and DJ will be a help.

  12. strandoftds82 says:

    Well, tomorrow is Friday. LOL

  13. imready says:

Weber really moves well in the pocket and finds seams to throw the ball through and he “spins” it well. I remember last season there was some talk the Broncos were trying to hide his ability from other teams so they wouldn’t grab him off the practice squad. Then he didn’t get much of a chance again so far this pre season. Has me befuddled.

  14. imready says:

DJ sure is talented but I think he is really in the doghouse. Heck, they haven’t even given him a bowl of water.

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I believe you. I just thought it was differently. When DJ gets activated we will have to make a cut if the space is needed but maybe not of there I am injury.

  16. strandoftds82 says:

DJ is in the doghouse. If he makes the team, he`s hanging by a thread. The Broncos might just give Williams just 1 more chance, any mess ups, he`s done.

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

May be just me but I wouldn’t look much into the fact he hasn’t played. They know his style and want to see what the other guys can do. Plus like I’ve been saying his fresh leg and talent will be a great help for the playoff push.

  18. strandoftds82 says:

Agreed! I like DJ`s play on the field, but am disappointed in what he`s done these last few years off. I`d like to see him get 1 more shot. He`s a solid LB.

  19. sndvl says:

Just saw Mannings stats for the preseason.

    30 of 42 for 343 yards. 2 TDs & 3 INTs

Which basically amounts to 3 quarters worth of work…

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I agree. Our linebackers look weak and he will be such a help when he comes back.

  21. strandoftds82 says:

Not to shabby. Those TD`s to INT`s will change dramatically as we know by his history.

  22. strandoftds82 says:

He might be out an additional 1-3 games. I hope its only 1 more game.

  23. strandoftds82 says:

AB, I bet we snag a LB or 2 off Waivers. Isn`t it obvious?

  24. imready says:

I need more caffeine or I’ll never make it to kickoff. Dang republican convention!

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand even still. If its 10 games his freshness will be a help during the playoff push

Not saying its a good thing he’s suspended. It’s horrible his help through the whole season would be much better.

  26. strandoftds82 says:

Yeah, dang republican convention. And I`m a republican! LOL

  27. imready says:

I’m with you strand . I do like some of our young linebackers. They are really have to show up tonight to have any chance of amking and staying on the roster.

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

I really like Steven Johnson to make the team. He looks very good. Very very good.

  29. imready says:

Better get that caffeine after that last post. egads!

  30. strandoftds82 says:

It`ll be nice when DJ comes back. Talk about a few expensive mistakes. My God!

  31. tlcat06 says:

Imready right? At least the convention is good or I’d be more mad about it. LOL

  32. imready says:

I like Johnson and Danny T. but don’t know if they are ready to help us win a championship. Guess we’ll leave it up to the coaches.

  33. strandoftds82 says:

Hilarious! I need Caffeine myself. I`m a caffeine nut. LOL

  34. strandoftds82 says:

I`ve heard productive things about Johnson. He sounds promising.

  35. tlcat06 says:

    Caffeine puts me to sleep!

  36. strandoftds82 says:

Anyone care for some Orange Banana`s?! Tap your cleats 3 times yall, MANNING`S IN DENVER. LOL

  37. strandoftds82 says:

I love Mountain Dew! And lots of Java every morning!

  38. tlcat06 says:

I would love an orange banana!!!!!!!!!!

    TAP YOUR CLEATS THREE TIMES!!!!!!

    Love it!

  39. strandoftds82 says:

That was for you Ticat06! LOL

  40. strandoftds82 says:

So tonight we declare it George Burns night. LOL

  41. strandoftds82 says:

By the cunning words of Woody Paige. HaHa!!

  42. imready says:

I roast my own coffee. If love coffee I’d recommend you try it. It’s very easy to do and for the price of Folger’s you can make coffee that makes Starbucks seem like dishwater.

  43. imready says:

I’ve got the cigars and a George Burns humidifier!

  44. strandoftds82 says:

    Oh God!

  45. imready says:

humidor, man I’m really getting rummy. Maaybe an espresso will bring me back from outer space

  46. tlcat06 says:

Or a Clint Eastwood night :P

  47. imready says:

Must be the pain meds, I’ve got a torn rotator cuff and two fractured vetebra in my lower back. It’s always something.

  48. strandoftds82 says:

I like my Java black, but I do enjoy a Hazelnut Lotte too. Now I`m thirsty. LOL

  49. strandoftds82 says:

I can see Clint Eastwood playing LB when he was younger, (OK punk, make my day)!

  50. strandoftds82 says:

Imready, your casting to hard when your out fishing. LOL
