Less than one week from the 2012 NFL season opener, the NFL Management Council and NFL Players Association have agreed to adopt 2012 Bylaw Proposals No. 2 and No. 6A, the NFL and NFLPA announced on Thursday.
Bylaw proposal No. 2 moves the trading deadline from Tuesday, October 16 – the Tuesday after Week 6 of the regular season – to Tuesday, October 30, the Tuesday after Week 8.
Bylaw proposal No. 6A permits clubs to re-activate one player from Reserve/Injured during the 2012 season, subject to certain restrictions.
Since this rule is being adopted after the cutdown to 75 players, for 2012 only, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a transition procedure that permits clubs to return to their 53-player active list one player placed on Reserve/Injured since the start of preseason training camp. This selection of that player must be made no later than 9:00 p.m. ET tomorrow, Friday, August 31.
Following the cutdown to 53 players, the new Reserve/Injured rule will work as follows:
- Only players with a “major injury” who are placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Tuesday, September 4, or thereafter during the season, will be eligible to be reactivated at a later time.
- A “major injury” is defined as an injury that renders the player unable to practice or play football for at least six weeks (42 calendar days) from the date of injury.
- Each team may reactivate only one player placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Tuesday, September 4. That player must be “designated for return” at the time the club places him on Reserve/Injured, and such designation shall appear on that day’s Personnel Notice.
- Such player is eligible to return to practice if he has been on Reserve/Injured for at least six weeks from the date he is placed on Reserve. He is eligible to return to the Active List if he has been on Reserve/Injured for at least eight weeks from the date he is placed on Reserve.
Under these new rules, any one of the current Broncos on Injured Reserve would be eligible to return later in the season — if they are brought back to the active roster by 7 p.m. MDT on Friday. Wide receiver D’Andre Goodwin, running back Mario Fannin, wide receiver Tyler Grisham and defensive end Jason Hunter are the current players on Denver’s Injured Reserve List.

I got a headache just reading that
Wow thanks Stuart we actually were talking about this the other day. Didnt realize it happened.
Ooooooh! I love this! Doesn’t help Hunter this season or anything, but I love the trade deadline moving and it’s only fair that healthy players should have a chance to be taken off injured reserve.
I don’t think this helps Hunter. I know he says it does, but maybe I don’t get it!
I feel bad for Green Bay wide receivers. YOu really have no chance. They have Jennings Nelson Cobb Driver and Jones already. So unless your amazing your not going to make it….Only 1 spot open most likely for a WR.
AB do you understand how this would help Hunter?
Thats a bummer for Hunter. He can`t come back this season then. I was hoping he`d be able to come back later this season off of IR. Oh man!!!
I’m seriously starting to think that Peyton’s going to play. He’s taking snaps and everything.
So for 2012 only, this rule applies retroactively to any player who was placed on IR from the start of training camp!
Awesome news for Hunter!
Oh I see, a team can chose 1 player during this preseason due to the new rule just established. So the Broncos can choose Jason Hunter still if thats who they want to come back. Kind of confusing since the rule just came into effect.
Good to know Sndvl, good to know!
Or Fannin, Goodwin & Grisham… Lol.
Yeah, strand. I had to read it twice to make sure that’s what it said. I could be wrong?!
I had to give it a second take myself. I do like Hunter at DE.
Sndvl, is that what it means because I wasn’t sure when I read it over again!
Because of the severity of Hunter’s injury the Broncos may not select to apply this new rule to him. My understanding of his injury was the best case senerio for him to be fully recovered from his injury would be mid December and most likely more time will be needed for him to heal. Guess we will know by tomorrow if the Broncos chose to apply this rule to him or wish to save it for a rainy day.
One other issue I’ve been pondering is with the Broncos selecting a new long snapper. With his athleticism being the primary reason for him getting the position I’ve been waiting to see if this means they plan on cutting D. Brutton to make room for Jim Leonhard. That question will be answered tomorrow also. Tomorrow for sure is answer day across the NFL. it will be interesting for sure.
Hope you are all well and as excited about up coming season as I am. Go Broncos!
So tomorrow is the final cuts. Two players will be placed on the suspended list, that being Williams and V. Green. So the Broncos will cut 20 more. And 8 will be placed on the PS. So in essence the Broncos will really say good by for good to 12 players.
*good bye*
Hey Gang!
Just have enough time to pop on and offer up my 2nd BBBP.
Both Deck and DMT have over 1000 yards receiving this season.
Enjoy the game. Will watch the first quarter tonight cause it doesn’t come on until 12:30am. Will watch the rest on pvr when I get home Saturday.
Looking forward to seeing how our 53 man roster shapes up.
GO BRONCOS!!!
Strand, I know!!M I am kind of nervous about tomorrow.
Hey Kod, have a good night!!! I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay up to watch the whole thing, but I’m just so glad it’s on local tv too cuz now I don’t have to watch NFL Network!!!
I guess I`m use to it. I`ve dealt with this stuff for eons year in and year out. It is a hard pill to swallow. The throws of the NFL, Yikes!!
Kod, enjoy what you do get to see. Later bro!
I know, but I’m waiting on that ONE guy who gets cut that I wasn’t prepared for.
Unrein will be there I bet. Hehehehehe!!!!!
Nice thought Strand, but some of our players that get cut could end up on someone else’s team and never make it to the Broncos practice squad. Certainly a tense time waiting to see if a player that you like that got cut will get another chance with the Broncos. I know there are a few young talents I like that we will never see in the orange and blue. My worst fear is that they end up in another AFC west team.
Word is on 850 KOA that Jeremiah Johnson can still make the PS if he is cut. He`s eligible by 1 game. Personally I hope JJ makes the 53 man roster. If JJ played just 1 more regular season game he would not be able to make the PS. Man thats cutting it close.
Imready, long time no talk. Its been awhile.
Strand, don’t make me cry already!!!! Crikey, I’m freaking out about it enough!
And I just figure Zane is safe cuz he’s a starter, but dang it, you never know! But why would they take Peyton’s guard away. Not happening. It’s not happening. It’s not happening! LOL
I’ve been on injured reserved Strand. LOL
So 22 players being cut times 32=704players cut. Only 1% will be claimed, what are the odds. Slim, but it can happen.
32 teams
22 players
________
704 players that will be cut tomorrow
Cat, thats not my intention. LOL
No! Beadles will be the starter at G. Thats a given!
Ok. Honestly. Mitch just went to my college, but Zane is FROM my home town (how come he doesn’t have a sign. I’m going to work on this…) if I have to choose, I pick Zane, but honestly, I think they’ll. On be on that 53 man roster,
LOL Imready.
I’ll be interested to see who we might claim off the wire after the cuts. If the reserves don’t perform well tonight I expect there will be some action by the Broncos tomorrow night and into the wee hours of the morning.
I got a cousin named Mitch that lives in Boston.
I concur. I bet we go after a LB or two. Our depth at LB is weak.
Imready… It’s going to happen exactly how you say. I think there are two people on that 53 man team that are not currently Broncos. But that’s just me!
I`m thinking the same, maybe even 3 players.
A little over 1 1/2 hours until game time. I bet Osweiler starts at QB. I want to see Hillman alot tonight.
I am not sure but I still think suspended players count against the 53 man roster and I they don’t then when they get unsuspended then the Broncos will have to cut two players unless they have two injuries and place two on IR.
I am not sure 100% if they count or not but I thought they did
I expect to see a couple extra cuts so 22-26 to bring in other guys cut and maybe a trade or two.
I don’t think Green makes the team at all. But that’s just my opinion.
They talked about it today on 850 KOA. It is my understanding that that they don`t. I just learned this today.
Atleast at the start of the season it sounds like. Unless I understood wrong.
Im a son of a Mitch….
Lol kddn
Green might be a gonner anyway just as you`ve said.
It’s been exciting to seeing the Broncos being aggressive trying to build a championship caliber team. I’m sure they have guys they are ready to pounce on if they get cut from other teams. The next couple of days are going to be interesting, that’s for sure.
Crazy Sndvl!! LOL
