NFL Games to Watch

October 16th, 2011 - 10:59am by Kenny Legan

Even though the Broncos have a bye this week, that doesn’t mean the NFL is taking a break too. There are plenty of meaningful and exciting matchups to watch this Sunday and Monday. So take this non-Broncos weekend as an opportunity to take in a couple important games that could affect the Broncos in the weeks to come.

Sunday, 2:05 p.m. MDT, CBS: Cleveland at Oakland

The Chargers and Chiefs also have a bye this week, making the Raiders the only AFC West team to have a game Sunday. The Raiders are 3-2 and only one game back of San Diego for the division lead. Meanwhile, the Browns are 2-2 and hoping to get out of the cellar of the AFC North. This is a key game for the Raiders at home as it will set the early tone in terms of if they will compete for a division title, or fight for a wild-card spot.

Monday, 6:30 p.m. MDT, ESPN: New York Jets at Miami

Not only is this a Monday night game, but it also features the Broncos’ next opponent, the Dolphins. The Jets are coming off a tough loss to New England, and at 2-3, will be trying to make up ground on the 4-1 division-leading Patriots and Bills. Meanwhile, the Dolphins will play their first game with Matt Moore at quarterback, after starter Chad Henne went down last week with a season-ending injury. At 0-4, the Dolphins are looking for their first win, and will have a shortened week next week before the Broncos come to town.

I think Clady has one more year on his contract after this year right? They’ll probably sign him inn the offseason then.

    Well, hopefully…

  2. milehighmagic88 says:

    OC,

It’s been announced. It’s been all over sportscenter, so yes, it’s official.

  3. Orange_Crusher says:

Is Clady also a free agent at the end of this season?

  4. strandoftds says:

I wonder if Royal will really be traded?

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

I think LLoyd pissed somebody off big time, thats why we pretty much gave him away and fast too!

I hope Royal stays,I would be upset if we traded him for a 5th or 6th round pick!

  6. Broncos Born & Raised says:

I’m with you OC. Tim has started 3 games in which he is 1-2. You can’t tell me that you put him in 13 points down at halftime and tell me that loss is on him. Let’s see what he continues to do as a starter.

  7. BeastFromEast92 says:

88,I thought Clady was a FA at the end of the year, but you are probably right!

  8. O&BinCostaRica says:

    I WILL BELIEVE

So they’re saying Philly saved the season because they are last but only 2 games back of first at 2-4. With the Chargers playing AT the Jets and us against the Dolphins, we could easily be last at 2-4… 2 games back of first. Does that mean our season is saved?

HARDLY. But only 2 games back doesn’t mean the season is lost. Do we have a great team? No and we are rebuilding towards that for sure. With the Tebow move we have again moved into a gear towards progress.

Have you heard the saying, “Any given Sunday”?. Well then, from now on, until mathematically eliminated, I will believe! I will believe in the team’s desire to win. I will believe in Tim elevating everyone’s play and finding ways to win. I will believe in Dennis Allen and the much improved D staying fresh with better QB play and running game that keeps drives alive.

Hey, is it realistic? No. Not really. Orange Koolaid? Sure! I’ll take a glass! Heck I wait many months every year to drink it and enjoy it. I love football and I love the Broncos. I will believe! I will cheer, get upset, get excited, get into the games.

    I WILL BELIEVE!

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

Tebow won the Chargers game 14-6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Orange_Crusher says:

Ha, 88, you answered me 1 minute before I asked the question…your really good!! lol

  11. strandoftds says:

Plus, we need more depth at P/R. There`s Royal and Crosby, who`s after those to to return punts? I guess it`s Decker.

  12. Broncos Born & Raised says:

    Haha BFE REAL talk!

  13. brian_schneider says:

I think if Fox plans on having Decker as the primary WR then his returning days are over.

  14. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah Clady signed a 5 year deal as a rookie. He’s in his 4th year now, which means he still has next year with us. So don’t worry we still have time on that one.

I’d almost be willing to guarantee he gets a huge extension. When Fox was in Carolina they gave Jordan Gross their LT a big extension before his contract expired and he’s not even close to Clady’s level. So I’m sure Clady is here for good.

But like I said, hopefully… In my opinion he’s our best player hands down.

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

I don’t care if we win a lot of games this year or not, sure I hate to see us lose, but I’m interested in seeing what we have in Tebow, and how much better the O-line gels, and how much better the Defense gets!!!

I read an article on the Bleacher Report that stated we should trade Doom, said that he probably would never be the same after his injury, man some people are so stupid!!!

  16. milehighmagic88 says:

OC, just doing my job, LOL.

  17. strandoftds says:

Use Decker for emergency only as P/R. Brian you are probably right.

  18. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Great Post Costa Rica. You’re a true fan (and NO I am not saying that anyone on here isn’t. Fandom comes in many shades).

  19. BeastFromEast92 says:

Good to know,I won’t have to worry about Clady till the off season, and I agree,he is our best player!

  20. BeastFromEast92 says:

    *next off season

  21. strandoftds says:

So since Lloyd is gone, I hope we bring up WR Eron Riley from the PS.

  22. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah no more PR/KR for Decker PLEASE!!!!

  23. CarnageBronc says:

In response/defense of my comment, I did say primarily in 4 games. he was the starter in 3 and played an equal amount, actually more than Orton “technically” in the Chargers game (because he “appeared” in the first half) and I said the TEAM was 1-3 in those games. I did not give him alone credit for the Charger loss. What is perplexing to me is how everyone wants to keep calling Tebow a rookie. He is not. He had all season and a full offseason of last year to learn this offense, and though there was a lockout, he had the opportunity to perfect his craft this year if he wanted to. He could have used his “leadership” to organize some team activities and get things down with the “O”. So I don’t fly with the rookie thing. He is not a rookie. Yeah, things will have to “get better”. I do wish that people would stop comparing him to Elway. There was never a question about Elway’s ability to play in the NFL. Comparing Elway and Tebow is apples and oranges

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Bay Bay runs like a 4.3 … he can be that deep threat and tall enough too.

I think we need to stretch the field more with Royal as well. He is just like desean but they use desean better.

I know we aint a passy passy team but if teams gotta guard our deep ball … it will open up the run … Im excited to see the new look broncos this sunday. TT with Decker Royal and Thomas. Decker aint no miget either … the guy is 6’3 … so he can go up for the ball … doesn’t have Bay Bay speed but he is plenty fast enough. TRB

  25. broncsbomber66 says:

wtf, I CANT SEE MY POSTS

  26. 1nOnlyTRB says:

If bay bay stays healthy … and thats a big IF. TRB

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

We still have Goodwin on the PS too right??

  28. strandoftds says:

No been cut. JJ replaced him.

  29. CarnageBronc says:

and trading Doom may be an excellent idea, depending on what we get in return. Can’t keep “waiting” for him to return to form. He is a GREAT but undersized injury proned pass rush specialist. He has not been the same since his return and his stock may not be any higher than it is now.

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

Carnage he has no playing time, well 3 games,he isn’t a Rookie, but technically to me he is still a Rookie!

  31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Carnage I dunno who calls him a rookie but I am pretty sure he did organize some camps this offseason … correct me if im wrong but I believe he did because they told him he was the guy. He missed alot of offseason this year and that hurt him with the snaps and other stuff with the new coaches and the new system … but ill never make excuses for tim … i expect him to perfrom … but I expect him to perform like a 1 year pro in his 4th career start. TRB

  32. strandoftds says:

NO WAY WE TRADE DOOM. What in the heck are you smoking?

  33. BeastFromEast92 says:

We are trying to improve the Defense not rip it apart like McD did our Offense,Doom will return to form in the Miami game!

  34. badluck727 says:

I sit here and read all these opinions the broncos should doand should not do. Lately they have shown that they do not have a clue what they are doing. And this has been going on since 2006 when Plummer was benched for Cutler and they finished that season 0-8. They fire Shanahan, hire MacDaniels, he tears the team apart, drafts players they didnt need. Gets rid of Marshall, Hillis, Sheffler now Lloyd.
Now we as fans have no idea what goes on behind closed doors but it must good for good player to think it would be best for there careers to go elsewere. I didnt agree the season was over but I do now. It is bad enough that they feel that they have to play Tebow just so they know were they are at at QB for next season. I dont blame Lloyd or Royal for asking out. Why would you want to play for a team that has already quit.

  35. seweatherman1 says:

I would like to see football get back to the smash mouth football of the days way back when. Back before domed fields, artificial turf, heated fields, full face shields and the like. The game today is way off from what football was started as. Now it is no more than an air show. That’s all. The qb’s are looked at by how many yards they pass and how many they complete vs. intercepted. Let’s get it back and show what Orange Crush is really all about!

  36. strandoftds says:

Lets not get trade happy. We are building our d not tearing it apart!!

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

Tebow will make mistakes just like every other QB to ever play the game,it will be his 4th start so you can’t judge him as being a 2nd year QB,imo.
especially with almost no off season to get better, and practicing with the 2nd and 3rd team players!!!

  38. 1nOnlyTRB says:

So people wanna trade dj doom and others … now dont get me wrong if we do thats fine … but u cannot just keep dropping talent and expect to get better especially when u never know what u will get in the draft … no tunless u have a sure fire replacement … its not wise imo … these picks we are getting will help with QUALITY depth but most will not be starters … I think we should keep our starters. And Doom has been getting alot of attention thereby allowing miller to shine … the other thing is that dooms 17 sack season was in the 3-4 … in the 4-3 he is just good … in the 3-4 he is a monster .. and we are runnign the 4-3 so I expected less personally but still good production … no offseason for him either after coming back from an injury … lets get an offseason next year for him in the 4-3 so that he can get better acquainted in my opinion … if u dont count the few TC they got … mot of these guys are just like 6 weeks into a new system … they arent doing bad but yes the could be better and we should always expect more. TRB

  39. armadillo_orton says:

carnage stirs the pot again, without adding anything to it. Where are your stats supporting your assesment? Homework assignment, review future hall of fame (or actual hall of fame QB”S) and you’ll see that Tim’s stats match up with them.

  40. strandoftds says:

Yeah, like for instance, yesterday a Dallas player barely touched Tom Brady after a pass and the ref threw a flag, I`m mean a half a secon after the release. I thought , you refs are idiots, complete bias idiots.

  41. strandoftds says:

No, it`s not fine!! Your talking nonsence. Not even a subject, are you kidding me?!

  42. seweatherman1 says:

TRB, I can’t believe all of you guys are still arguing with Carnage. He is just about as much anti TT as one can get. It is simply a waste of good time and talent trying to do any reasoning with him. Tebow can come out and win every game, throw 100% and have the highest qb rating ever for the remainder of the year and Carnage, like some others, will still want Orton in there. Simply a waste of time.

  43. BeastFromEast92 says:

badluck…you think it is a bad thing to play Tebow to see if he is going to be our future, did you like watching Orton and his mediocre play????
Orton has only gotten worse,Hell the running game is getting better and Orton is getting worse,I applaud the Tebow move, but I still feel we the fans are getting treated almost the same as last year, when it comes to behind the scenes!

  44. Orange_Crusher says:

It’s kinda weird how Fox just jumped out of the Box all of the sudden….

It was like he was all set in his ways and was concreted to the way he was running the team and then, boom! He had a complete change of heart at halftime… wow! humm?

While I’m still a little taken back by his sudden injection of bravado.. I am extremely glad that he didn’t stay stubborn and stagnant…

Maybe there is hope for him to keep thinking outside of the Fox-Box… We’ll see, I’m hopeful…

    ILMSDB!!!

  45. strandoftds says:

Trade DJ, but to even think of trading Doom, even mentioning it is nuts, no thank you!

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

Hellfire guys we don’t have enough depth on Defense to get rid of any players!!!

  47. seweatherman1 says:

badluck…we are not quitting. We are just getting this party atarted. They are simply doing what they should have done 6 weeks ago.

  48. CarnageBronc says:

Not saying that future HOFers don’t start bad…many of them do. BUT, all of them played in different eras, where the rules were not as slanted towards the success of quarterbacks as they are now. You could hit the qb, there was no illegal contact, rules were just different then. Those qb’s had to play in a totally different league. Additionally, I said that comparing ELWAY and TEBOW was apples and oranges. Armadillo, you are #1 Tebow fan, I get that. BUT if you have watched him play, he is nowhere near the QB that many players, younger than him, without the benefit of a year under their belt are. Example, Andy Dalton, had no offseason AT ALL to work, and he is playing QB at a very high level. No built in excuses. He was not around last season with his OC. He is just ballin. Same thing with Cam Newton. And before yousay he had an entire preseason he did not, he was not the starter from day one. It came later in preseason. He did not have last year to be in the system already. Remember for the most part we have the same system as lat year, the philosophy has changes. same OC. Not a complete change. I don’t think I was “stirring the pot” but what I am saying is, that from watching Tebow, I have not seen him get better as a pure QB. He runs the ball well enough but honestly, he just doesn’t throw the ball well. We gave him a lot of credit during that San Diego game, but remember he didn’t complete a pass for a while. Lloyd ailed him out on one…and the TD was a screen. He overthrew Decker on a scramble his passing just isn’t there. Will it get there, I don’t know. I don’t think so, but hey who knows. I personally do not believe in Tebow. Hope we win games, sure I do. Rooting for the kid, I have to, he is the starting qb on the team I am a fan of. Drinking the kool-aid…nah not at all but it is simply my opinion.

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

I’d rather keep DJ than trade him for a 5th round pick that probably won’t even make the team, what if Woodyard gets hurt?we need to keep our good players for depth or we will never be any good!

  50. BeastFromEast92 says:

Carnage if Tebow had started the whole season how do you know he wouldn’t have better #s than Dalton or Newton, you make no sense dude!
