Coming off a postseason that saw two games decided in overtime, NFL team owners approved on Tuesday an overtime rule change in the playoffs.
Starting in the upcoming 2010 season, overtime in the postseason won’t always be “sudden death.” If a team wins the coin toss and drives down the field for a touchdown, the game is still over. But if the team wins the coin toss and then kicks a field goal, the other team gets the ball with a chance to either tie the game with a field goal or win it with a touchdown.
If the game is tied after both teams have had a posession, play will continue under the normal “sudden death” rules.
The owners voted 28-4 in favor of the proposal at the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla. The Broncos were among the 28 teams that approved the rule change.
“We always talk about situational football with (Head) Coach (Josh) McDaniels, and I’m sure he’ll have us prepared however it turns out,” Renaldo Hill said earlier in the day. “There’s always some new wrinkle that they have in the league each year, and we’ll be prepared.”

Just read an article that was talking about Marshall crying for a long term deal.WTF,what’s wrong with that, the man works as hard as anyone else, don’t he deserved to be paid?????? There’s players in the NFL that have killed people, raped, and on drugs, and they can’t forgive Marshall for a few minor mistakes, some people really make me sick….Hypocrits.
I prefer Charles Scott, cuz of his talent and because he is projected much later…
http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/charles-scott?id=497202
5’11 and 238 pounds and look at the way he explodes…dunno what his 40 time is but this man has game speed. and is projected to go in the 5th or 6th round.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROrIY31e7yE
Marshall deserves a long term contract. It could be from us or some one else.
The way he plays on the field is deserving of some cash money.
A top 3 WR should be payed like a top 3 WR.
Kuper signed his tender
BFE… ALLEGED mistakes…He was acquitted and it was the same woman every time who also tried to black mail him…dunno the story but i bet it aint black and white.
At least we got Kuper back…I can’t blame Marshall for not signing his tender…His situation is sooooooo tough…He tried to be a hard a$$ they told him to finish out his contract and he will get paid…He finished it out AND broke a game record, got to the pro bowl, and did everything that was asked of him….Show him the money Denver cuz if u won’t someone else will….I consider him top 3 as well along with Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald in no particular order. And while Moss is a A$$ he will probably go down as one of the best of all time cuz he is…he would be top 3 except for the fact that he plays when he wants too….
TRB-
I pray that Marshall isn’t traded. You would become depressed.
I tried to put down some information about Charlse Scott he has my vote for our Powerback…5’11 and 238 pounds with amazing game speed. The guy can flat out run through you or past you. He was projected in the first round his JR year but fell off his senior year cuz he missed games. Now he can be a steal in the mid rounds…I have soo many players I want the broncos to get that I know I will be super dissapointed…what some youtube vid on him if u haven’t seen him, he is from LSu
lmao florio..unbelievably depressed dude…Im already having a tough time with his possible trade but if it were to happen, Can’t really place my reaction lol
either way, marshall is a ticking time bomb. Hes arguably the best receiver in the league. Its a bog mistake to let him go and a HUGE blessing to re-sign him. whatever happens, happens.
Maybe McD will bump his head and realize how valuable Marshall really is,I think he run the #s up on Gaffney in the last game vs KC to show Marshall they could do it without him,Orton didn’t throw that much in a game all season, even if it cost us the playoffs.
Mike Rice started the catchphrase “It is what it is” on an inseason blog after the Oakland loss I believe.
Show Marshall the money. Pay him.
Looks like Larsen will be relegated to the VAUNTED fullback position in McD’s awesome offensive attack. EFFIN GREAT! Just trade him too. So he can play and be productive
Lets hope the hype on Ayers is for real…amd not just hype.
So, if Orton is at Dove Valley, does that mean he signed his tender sheet?
Note to Orton- Way to go! Really that is a selfless act and I for one admire that. Whatever side of the mouth McD is talking out of, its your job. Prove your detractors wrong. Im on Team Orton!!! lol
One last thing…this overtime thing,I propose this- At the start of overtime the ball will be placed at the 50 yard line, the whistle blows, 53 players from each team run for said ball. Whoever crosses the goal line first- wins!!!! Hows that for competition, committee?
We re-signed Cuper to a one year contract.
Mike Rice did start the “it is what it is”, but it was after the Eagles game and that was the title to his weekly blog:
It Is What It Is

As I reflect on the 2009 Denver Broncos, I find myself both a little empty and strangely satisfied at the same time. I’m not sure exactly how it got to that point. But it is what it is. Mike Rice.
I would have to agree that the sentence has become pretty fitting to what has happened to our Broncos so far under McD, whatever he chooses to do he does, no matter how asinine it may appear, and regardless how fans are left at a loss, IT IS WHAT IT IS. That sentence will get a lot of use after Marshall heads out of town, that’s for sure. I know, I know, he is not gone yet, there are plenty of reasons you could give me why he might still be here…. I just don’t buy it, the line has been drawn in the sand and it’s heading right out of town. The kid needs a new start away from Denver, from the trial memories and that fatal night and he will be much better off for it. Just because he would make us better can’t make me overlook the fact of what would be best for him. This is the perfect example which to apply another famous sentence to; “if you really love him, set him free”, otherwise you are just holding on for selfish purposes. Just my opinion.
i thought dave ramsey started “it is what it is”…. but thats not football related.
im still hopin we can resign marshall i as well as other would be very sad to see him get away! that being said the scenario proposed where we get a couple guards, a second rounder, a 4th rounder, and we give up a 3rd rounder seemed like the best deal to me! i know a lot of people are wanting seattles 6th pick but i personally dont want to have to deal with the drama that goes into a high 1st rounder! its always such an ordeal to get those guys signed not to mention they get WAY to much money based on potential rather than proven performance IMO. and surely McD talkin about not being concerned about a center is just a smoke screen! he may be stubborn but he surely isnt stupid!
“THE BATTLE IS WON IN THE TRENCHES”
@ baylin….. do you honestly think that brandon running away from his problems and the D Will tragedy is a GOOD thing? for someone with a lot of life experience that seems like a very young person thing to say! lol just had to jazz ya bay!
No offense, Rayjr, by the way I thought you changed your handle? Anyhow, yeah, I truly believe that when you are one of the main instigator in something that results in a murde by gang members, you would be totally better off starting anew in a different environment, two of the other witnesses entered the witness protection program after testifying, obvioulsy Marshall can’t do that, so it’s the next best thing. It’s easy to have big rock hard you know what when you are not in the line of fire, it’s different when you may be the target.
i tried to change my handle but i posted once and then they closed my new acct. so i said to heck with it! as for the witness protection thing…. i have a very difficult time believing that someone would be gunning for brandon. my guess is (and this is ONLY a guess) the people who went into witness protection were associated with the defendant. their gang(again just a guess) affiliation would have given them no other choice. not to mention can you think of a better way to get unwilling witnesses to testify than to offer them a way out of a bad life? course this is all speculation. in all honesty i dont know that much about the details of the case and trial and i know almost nothing about the witnesses! i still disagree (respectfuly of course) with running from the situation. brandon didnt kill anyone! people get in fights and arguments all the time at bars and clubs and no one dies! there was no way he could have known that would happen. this situation is the exception, not the rule! just my opinion though.
Rayjr26, we both said just my opinion, civil in our discussion we are, good to see.
Everyone knows it wouldn’t affect me one way or the other if Marshall left or stays, if I had my choice I would rather he takes the soap opera on the road, but no big deal either way. However more important to me is to try to convey another point of view to the blog, where, just like last night, most of the bloggers sit here and sing the praises of how great Marshall is and how stupid McD would be to let him go. I know I am not popular in many of my views, I definitely do not partake in cheerleading for my team, I just follow it with the best analytical mind I can muster to see what can be done to improve our team and get to where we want to go, and very often it may mean unpopular statements, so be it, I’m not here to win a popularity contest. But the way Marshall has been glorified here of late is an absolute farce to me. Other than on the field when he wants to, the guy has been a clown most of his life, and if it wasn’t for football the guy would be incarcerated by now if not dead, he is by no means any kind of example I would want for my children to follow, even so of late he has tried to help the youth in his organization to teach them not follow his footsteps. He would fall in perfectly in tune with the comment this writer had about Tiger Woods “I would believe anything Tiger (insert Marshall here) does on the course (insert field) and I would believe nothing he says off it.” Just trying to be fair and balanced here, I know you will all let me have it, go for it, I’m a big boy, you won’t hurt my feelings any. MARSHALL MUST GO, the good old times, LOL.
Baylin, the farce is,a guy plays his heart out,and is promised the money he deserves and people like you and McD give him the shaft, pathetic if you ask me,and I’m a big boy too.
BFE, I wouldn’t expect any less from you, I know darn well how big a Marshall fan you are and I respect that.
BTW, the other day you were asking if anybody knew what long term contract Marshall was offered by the Broncos last year that he turned down, it was for 9.5 mil a year for five years. I bet you he wished he would of taken it now, just saying, not the brighest light bulb in the locker room.
Didn’t know that, where did you get the info??? Sorry for the bashing, just seemed like your post was addressed at me.Thanks for the respect, and I DO respect you also,I’ve just always believed in giving someone a 2nd chance, somebody will give him one,and we’ll probably regret it.I can live without Marshall but how productive will the team be???
The farce is mcd saying “it’s not our business”. This exact time last year front office told marsh to do a list of things which all were accomplished, from the hip healed to the pro bowl. Yet nothing has been done or said. That is a complete punk move. Some say don’t believe what marsh says, I say I have an extended list of lies that came out of mcds and the front office mouths. From saying cutler is the franchise, there will be no GM, hillis will be more incorporated, etc etc. This list goes on and on
DB I agree bro 100% McD says a lot of things than turns around and flatout lies, and he’s made some good moves, but like you say he makes punk moves too.
BFE, it was Mike Klis, about 3/4 weeks ago I wanna say, who reported it in a DP article where he said he got the info from two unnamed sources inside the organization and Woody Paige also referred to it a couple days later, so it was a fairly substantial report.
And totally agree, you can’t trust a word about what comes out of McD’s mouth, as we commented here plenty the other day.
so did shanny! just to be devils advocate. if you doubt then ask bubby brister! lol
No kidding, Brister was to be the starter the season after Elway’s departure, but instead Griese started and when he went down Frerotte took over, good point.
The way I understood it the contract had very little money upfront, and they knew Marshall wanted some money upfront,as far as the unnamed sources,if they can’t reveal their source it’s not credible to me…just saying.
I thought Brister was a helluva backup for us,played good when we needed him to.
It’s more credible than the crap we all dish out most of the time, LOL.
Or plummer! But Shanny also had that locker room respect. End of last year you had players telling on each other, acting and playing like a high school team. Mcd has pointed out sone of his faults so hopefully come preseason things will be ironed out. What will really blow is if dumervil is forced to sign his tender. That would show it doesn’t matter if you ate a high character or low character guy, you ain’t getting paid
Shanny didn’t have all of the players respect, I remember a couple of players who referred to Shanny as the little guy in the building up there, and they were on their way out soon after, Gardener was one of them I think.
All I can say is I can’t respect a person when they lie over and over to the fans,I can live with it but I ain’t gotta respect it,McD needs to learn a few things about character, how does he expect the players to respect him when the fans don’t.
That’s the problem, like I said I believe the players respect his receipe for winning, they just don’t buy into how he goes about it, and unless he makes a complete turn around on how he treats his players, he is heading fo failure. I am still hoping, but every day that goes buy shows me no change in McD. Talk is cheap, we are only measured by our actions….
The only reason Kuper signed his tender is he was tickled to death to make the 2 mil next season, considering he made 500,000 last year,we can sign FA’s to long term deals but not our proven players like,Doom and Kuper.Makes no sense to me.
Sry for the typos. Posting from a phone
Drunk AND posting from a phone, that WOULD be difficult, LOL.
Lmao bay and trying to eat a donut all while driving!
Where ever you drive, I will stay out of your way, LOL.
I personally want to see McD succeed here, still am a HUGE Shanny fan,but when he refused to hire a new DC,I knew he was as good as gone.McD will take a step forward and then take 2 steps back,he needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and see his mistakes,or he won’t be around very long,I just hope he don’t take the team down with him,I’d hate to have to start a whole new rebuilding team from scratch.
You guys are full of sh**.LMAO
i hope mcd can figure it out! i do like a lot of the things he has tried to do here! i would like to see him put together a team that can make a deep run into the playoffs! like they say winnin fixes everything! lol
Klis of the DP alway`s acts like he has the inside scoop on Marshall that he`s goona be gone by trade or whatever. I don`t believe him or Kreiger or whoever`s writing about Brandon. They want him gone so that they can be right and say i told you so. It`s all about thier pride. They don`t give a darn about the TRUE BRONCO FANS!! We want winners. Marshall is a winner. He just needs to mature off the field. And he will. He`s a good young man. He just needs to grow.
@DrunkenBronco
I’ve been thinking about buying an iPhone. You made me change my mind.
I’m getting a blackberry.
LOLOL
Drunkenbronco…
#1.Yes, This exact time last year front office told Marsh to do a list of things… Then Marhsall turned around and held out, and then kicked footballs out of practice purposefully dropped passes, held himself out of practice, flopped in the Cincy game and then declared himsefl unable to perform in the last game of the season. I wouldn’t say he accomplished everything on the list.
#2. Cutler was the franchise untill HE RAN AWAY CRYING AND REFUSED TO PLAY FOR THE BRONCOS… That was Cutlers decision for many reasons. You shoud be mad at JC for being a punk over that, not the coach or owner.
#3. I don’t ever remember anything but speculation in the DP about the Broncos not having a GM. Every team has a GM. Josh or Pat never said “we will not have a GM”. I don’t know where you got that from?
#4. After McD said “Hillis will be more incorperated”. Guess what, we started the very next game in the “I” formation and Hillis was at FB, he did actually use more two back sets and try to get him involved at FB more towards the end of the season. Maybe your complaint is that McD didn’t use Hillis at HB but I don’t recall McD EVER saying he would utilize Hillis as a HB.
#5. Etc, etc, etc. Get your list of lies out and I bet you probably just didn’t listen good enough. That goes for you to BFE, bay, I want to hear what you guys percieve as lies to what I hear and read because I don’t see him lieing and decieving as much as you guys do and would like to compare notes.
annd Tim Tebow to the Brownssss
OC,
they must be on break, it been 15 min and no post. stick to your guns b/c alot of us stopped posting b/c of this kind of bs and remarks we would get from some when we did post.
Just to let you all know. Toby Gerhart’s private workout is being rescheduled. I guess the Bronco coaches could not make it out of Denver due to snow. I will let you all know what happens.
GO BRONCOS….
