While some players were just getting to know Interim Head Coach Eric Studesville Wednesday morning, the running backs already knew what they would see.
After working with the coach all year, Correll Buckhalter said he observed no differences in the way Studesville addressed the team as the head coach and how he used to treat his position players.
“He was the same that he’s always been in the running backs room,” Buckhalter said. “He talked about how all he knew how to do was work. He wants everybody to come to work happy and just feel like you want to come here.”
Studesville’s exuberance for the game has been a common theme at Dove Valley during the past two days.
On Tuesday, in his first meeting with the press as head coach, Studesvillle explained that he wanted his players to share his affinity for the workplace.
“Positive energy always goes a long way,” Mario Haggan said. “That’s what you want to have, and in this game, if you don’t have positive energy, then you get negative results.”
Haggan’s history with Studesville goes beyond Denver. The linebacker’s time with the Bills coincided with the coach’s tenure in Buffalo.
Over the years, Haggan said he has come to know the coach as a man ready to go to work with a skip in his step. Now he said he’s excited to see Studesville bring that style to the head coaching position.
“I think that’s what he wants — to put his own stamp on it and the opportunity he has to lead this team,” Haggan said. “I think he’ll continue to be that way.”
Studesville projected confidence in the way he’ll handle his new position. When reporters asked him what coaches he would seek to emulate, he kept it simple.
He said he would stick to his own values, being upfront and honest with his players and encouraging a fun, hard-working atmosphere.
“I try to be the best me I can. I’m not going to try and be somebody else. I’m not going to try and be something I am not,” Studesville said. “I think this is just an enhanced version of what I have done with the running backs. I just now have the whole team.”
THREE FRESH FACES
The coach also announced two new members to the active roster and an addition to the practice squad.
Linebacker Lee Robinson earned a promotion up from the practice squad, and tight end Daniel Coats is back with the team after he was signed for a day earlier this year.
Robinson’s departure from the practice squad opened up a space for running back Jeremiah Johnson, a University of Oregon product who spent last year on injured reserve with the Texans. As a senior at Oregon in 2008, Johnson rushed for 1,201 yards, the sixth-highest total in school history.

I think what we need more than ever are DEs. Sure we still need a NT but we have been suffering at DE for a long time with the likes of peterson and mcbean. We have banaan now and vickerson isnt bad but they are no spring chickens. I wanted us to get Mike Pouncey for LG cuz we stills struggling there. But we drafted alot of OL last year and they know each other now no need to ad a new person I guess. Based on which player is Best, we either go DE’s or ILB in the first round in my opinion. With doom and Ayers on the corners. Possibly Mays and DJ on the inside. Haggan subbing in since he is getting up there. We should be good. I would like a safety as well. I REALLY like McBath but he is injury prone and Dawk and Hill are too old. Bruton is all ST, We lost barrett, and I think McCarthy SUX. But thats just me lol
Yea, I do not think there is any way that Myer will come and coach for us! The main reason that he said he resigned from Florida is to get back to his family! He said that he has missed way too much things going on in his daughters college life and that he needs to get back to his family! I think he is done for at least a few years!
TRB…
I would love to get Robert Quinn!! He is a beast on the line and is an extremely smart player! Plus we have his brother here and maybe if he comes here it will strike a match under Richards behind and help him produce!
I personally think that if we can get Peterson, we need to take him! at this point in time I’m almost 100% Champ won’t wear a Broncos uni next year and we need someone who can step into that role and play at a high level. Cox is coming along and if we can get peterson the sky is the limit! Also I think we should can Orton, he is good but if we can get a 2 and 3 out of him I will consider that a big plus! then we can go CB in the first TE, DT, and DE in the second! we have a long climb to the top so lets equip ourselves this spring and see where we can get!
GO BRONCOS!!! PETERSON 2010!!!
Yea, I say get Patrick Peterson and Kyle Rudolph!! I watched some you tube clips on both of them and they are both phenomenal!! Rudolph looks like the best TE that I have ever seen play college ball!! He gets open, has amazing hands, and is HUGE!!
I just found a clip here and please, anyone, tell me where you have seen a longer, more beautiful, touchdown by a TE in your life!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M2UBEBcOnw&feature=related
JUST AMAZING!!
I like the idea of trading Orton for draft picks, but I’m not really sure what his trade value is. Some people say a 3rd, others say a 2nd. I just can’t think of any team that would be willing to give up a pick that high. I know there’s plenty of teams with quarterback problems but there’s also some really good quarterbacks in this draft class, so I don’t know how desirable Orton will be. I hope I’m wrong though, because if he’s not going to be a Bronco long term it would be nice to get decent compensation for him in return. I think if someone offers a 3rd we should jump on it. Remember McNabb was traded for just one 2nd rd pick, that’s why I can’t decide what kind of value Orton would bring in compensation. Despite how well he’s played this year, McNabb has a bigger name nationwide.
Anyway, if there are any players like Orton or anyone else on this roster who won’t be used by the new staff, I hope we can get good trade value for at least a couple of them because we need all the picks we can get. An extra 2nd or 3rd would be awesome.
I hear Quinn is a beast…But thats the same guy with a YEAR long suspension. Sounds like a knucklehead…if anything, him and his brother will be knuckle heads together lol. I do like peterson even tho I don’t think CB is a prob not unless Champ is definitely gone. Besides he might not declare this year.
This ought to put a big smile on any Bronco fan’s face, as reported by Woody:
Bowlen and Elway did have dinner on Monday evening just hours after Josh McDaniels was fired, and they discussed the possibility of Elway joining the Broncos on a full-time basis. No firm offer was made, or specific job determined at the time, though. Several different potential scenarios were talked about as the two did a high-five twice at Elway’s restaurant in Cherry Creek.
Chief operating officer Joe Ellis told me Wednesday evening that he’s “had two very good conversations with John, and I know he genuinely is very passionate about helping the Broncos and Pat in any way he can. We’re only in the preliminary stages, and, truthfully, we don’t know where it will lead.”
Elway confirmed the details Wednesday night from California. “That’s all true. I’m passionate about the Broncos, their fans, the people of Colorado. I love the game of football, and I’d like to have the opportunity to get back in it. I want to do whatever I can for Pat and his legacy, after all he did for me in my career.
“I don’t know what the situation is right now, and where Pat’s going. It’s too early. I’ve gotten more involved on the business and marketing side, and I went to several practices and talked with the players, and I’ve enjoyed it. It’s important to do what’s best for the Broncos. If it’s right for everybody, I’d love to be a part of it. I think I have a lot to contribute.
YAHOOO!!!!
Is it gameday yet? Wait it’s only Thursday?! Awwww man, Sunday is taking way too long to get here. Excitement is all in the air and I finally feel the positive energy coming from the players. I’m still curious to hear what some of the other guys like Dawk, Champ, Clady, etc are thinking but so far the players are saying that the vibe is more positive now.
GO ELWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Elway also said:
“I’m in several businesses, but if I got more involved with the Broncos, that would be my full-time job.”
The man is obviously totally enthused about the opportunity and would be committed all the way. As far as I’m concerned, its only a matter of time before he officially gets a title, it is definitely said already that it will NOT be HC, but Kizla has even reported there could be a possibility he could even replace Ellis as COO and become Pat’s new right hand man. Just imagine, Elway addressing the media about everything Broncos as the voice of Bowlen, that would generate yet bigger excitement than Tebow, at least it would for me. But like I said in the previous Cooper blog I think Ellis stays at COO and Elway gets the post right below him as Vice president of Football Operations (but he could still become the Bronco speaker instead of Ellis?). Anyhow Woody goes on outlining the possible jobs Elway could get here:
With Ellis firmly in place as COO, as he should be, Elway could become the vice president of football operations, aid in the selection of a general manager, then a coach, and act as a liaison between Bowlen and Ellis.
He could be named executive VP — advising on both business and football affairs, and being out front as the club’s voice to the fans and the media, particularly as the Broncos try to rebuild trust and confidence lost in the past several years. He probably could get the no-shows to show again.
He might be the general manager with personnel power over the coach. Or he could be a roving executive working in all facets of the franchise.
One task Elway definitely would have is becoming a mentor to young quarterbacks Tim Tebow.
In the last line Woody actually said “Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn”, but there is absolutely no way I was going to be able to re-print that, lol. Anyhow that’s all the great news I want to talk about for now, all those talks about who we get at GM, HC, OC, DC and players in next draft etc… are making me dizzy as they are totally out of whack order wise.
The way I see it, here is the proper order of business to follow:
First let’s get Elway on board so then he can hire a GM (with Bowlen and Ellis) who in turn can hire a HC who in turn can hire coaches, etc….
It seems like the story of this blog since the firing of McD has been to put the carriage in front of the horses, and I realize that’s a lot of fun to talk about all the possibilities but I myself I’m going to tone it down (I have given my dream line up already) so from now on it’s about the next 4 games and waiting for the news that Elway has been made an integral part of our franchise, just me though, you all feel free to spin your heels on next year draft already, haha.
Oh, and one last real neat thing:
Woody said next time Elway will host the Lombardi Trophy over his head he will say “THIS ONE’S FOR PAT”.
That would be a totally fitting next step in this great Franchise of ours!
Thanks Bay for filling us n this morning, all this good news is going down smooth with my coffee, thanks bro!
I think I can speak for most fans on here when I say that you do a GREAT job filling us in on a lot of important stuff about the Broncos, cudos to you!
Maybe they’ll give you your own segment, keep up the good work, and thanks again Bronco Bro!
Elway in any manner is welcome in my book,he can only make things better with his football smarts, the more power they give him the better!
Thanks a lot bud and you are very welcome, I have more time than most and always enjoy doing it.
I think when Kubiak comes in here the next to the last game he will remember what it was like to be part of the Broncos, after all he was here for 20 years,I wouldn’t mind seeing him get back involved somehow,I don’t know about the HC job,but he is a very good OC,and he knows the Bronco way,and maybe he brings his staff with him, including Dennison,as much as Dennison has learned,he would make a fine OC too.Kubiak is in the running for the HC job,but I ain’t sold on that idea just yet.
ELWAY-TEBOW-ELWAY-TEBOW-ELWAY-TEBOW!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE ME SOME DENVER BRONCOS!!!!!!
YEA!!!!!!
I LOVE ME SOME PAT BOWLEN!!!!
HE’S GOT ROCKS!!!!!!
AND HE AINT AFRAID TO SWING’EM AROUND EITHER!!!!!!!!
ILMSDB!!!!
LETS GET ELWAY IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Gruden and we both hate the stinkin Raiders with a passion,it worked with Shanny,so it can work with Chucky!
I agree with Beast that Bay needs his own blog section! Bay get on Facebook or something and create you one. There’s many of you who do a great job with your thoughts and info! bay, Beast, Greatness, Yovi, Orange Crusher, BroncosFreak, 1nonly, monodo, Royalbronc, sndl, just to name a few. There are plenty more that I left off.
Anyway, I like how Coach Stud is letting the guys practice without pads and trying to give them some time to rest. At this point in the season full pads during practice aren’t needed that much bc they have been throwing their bodies around for 12 + weeks now.
Well well well, after 12 weeks of nothing but disappointment all this good news is just flowing in! I forgot what it felt like to be excited about our future
This is what Don Banks at SI has to say re: Jeff Fisher
” I just can’t see Jeff Fisher surviving this season in Tennessee, which has flamed out faster than that thumbtack thing on their side of the Titans’ helmets. It might be a dismissal, a resignation, or a little of both in a mutual parting of the ways. But I think Fisher is wearing his cool-guy shades on a different NFL sideline in 2011″.
Don’t know if Fisher would be a good fit for us but another Coach who might be available in 2011.
Everybody seems totally hyped the John is likely to get involved with the Broncos. While I’m sure there’s an appropriate posotion for him, remember that it’s extremely rare that a player of John’s caliber is able to translate that into coaching/front office success. Bart Starr was a total disaster as Packer HC, Dan Marino quickly got out of the front office job with the Dolphins because he realized it was going to be train wreck, etyc, etc ad nasium.
Having John as part of the Broncos would be fantastic, but, only in the correct postion. I don’t see GM as the correct postion. Ex VP sounds goiod to me, close but not a major decision maker.
Nooooo, no Fisher! Seeing and hearing Leslie frasier talk….. man I wish we would’ve got him when we had a chance. There’s no way the Vikes let him get away this time.
Yeah caramello – the Vikes will lock him in after the season is over.
One thing I’ve noticed in all the blogs and articles about Elway and The Broncos expected reunion, is they all speak of His achievements on the field and in Business. All Great achievements but, no one ever really speaks of His Education, He has a Degree in Economics from Stanford and I think this speaks volumes to what His interests are. I’m just speculating but I think He will probably replace a certain General Manager of PLAYER PERSONNEL/FOOTBALL OPERATIONS who’s last name begins with X. just speculation.
And THNX caramelloo
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
Really oldsouthstander? I’m sure you know He was Co-Owner of The Crush and a Member of The Arena Football League Executives. Not to mention all His other Holdings and ventures.
In my humble opinion He’s Ready as anyone.
just sayin
All I know is that i would like to see Rod Smith and John Elway apart of the Denver Broncos on a regular basis. Two stand up working mans type of guys.
royal – if for some reason Ziggy is dumb enough to not lock Frasier up then I say reel that fish in.
Was Fisher an OC or DC before being HC? If we can put a Wade Phillips or Fisher in as DC I think we will be looking good! I don’t think i want Fisher as a HC though, I don’t know if I like the product he puts on the field (dirty players ect.) Honestly I don’t know who would be the best fit here in Denver, but for the sake of our Defense and Tebow I am on the Gruden bandwagon, if Kubiak gets fired it would be nice to have him back as an OC!
Yes – thnx caramello.
Yw bro!
When Shanny was fired I felt uncertainty even after Mr. McDaniels was hired. Now I feel like everything will fall into place like they should. From the front office stuff, to the coaches, to the players, and on down to us fans.
oldsouthlander – to touch on what you said about Marino…. The Dolphins organization and fans didn’t and don’t have the love for him like we did and do for Elway. We need Elway to be apart of this organization in some shape or form. Another thing that sperates Elway from the other QB situations is….. He wants to be involved bc of his LOVE for Denver, and it kills him to not see us on top.
monodono.
Your right. Forgot about AFL ownership. It just frightens me when I think of all the other big name athletes who tried the front office and failed miserably. Nothing would delight me more than to have John a part of a dominant Bronco organization.
Yea Bay…
There have been a couple of different articles out regarding the dinner with Elway and Pat at Elways restaurant on Monday!! Elway definitely seems that he is VERY eager to get in here and give us as much help as possible! We need to hurry and have him here so that he can find a general manager for us and then elway and the general manager can hopefully get either Chucky or Cowher!
The only reason why I do not think Cowher will coach here is because of the videotape incident that just happened! He was quoted saying that he doesn’t think that the drama is over with the Broncos and how he thinks more information to the videotape incident will uncover itself and make itself public!
But we did fire McDaniels soo who knows?? I just think bringing in Gruden would be the best move because we definitely need someone to have that special relationship with Tebow and definitely someone who believes the most in him! Mcdaniels believed in him, that’s why I didn’t mind waiting and seeing what McD and Tebow did together, but now, we need Gruden in here and Gruden, Elway, and Tebow would be by far the best combo in the NFL!!
And of course you have to get some great coordinators as well!
The thing that I am MOST excited about is this!
Right now we are in the stages of rebuilding. A lot of the fans and other fans of different teams say that we will not be a winning franchise again until about 3-4 years!!
BUT, if we do bring in Elway. He hires a great General Manager. They hire and get the best coach available, hopefully Gruden, and then we get a really good OC and DC. We are going to have great spots in the draft this year, so we have the ability to get great players! Next year we will have a weak schedule with how bad we did this year!!
With how hard our players have fought this year, even whenever our season was going downhill and we were playing with a losing record, we could very realistically go from one of the very bottom teams this year to one of the very top!! It was going to take 4-5 years I believe with Mcdaniels to start winning, if we ever did. But getting veteran coaches in here and putting a really good system together…we could really surprise the whole NFL organization next year if we play our cards right!
Hopefully we make all of the right moves! I always have hope and faith in Pat!!!
Yovi – Jeff Fisher played his college ball at USC with Ronnie Lott.
He played for the Chicago Bears in the NFL and earned a Super Bowl ring on their ’85 championship Team. He went to work for Buddy Ryan and was a DB coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also served under George Seifert in San Francisco. Jeff Fisher was with the Houston Oilers as an assistant with Jack Pardee when Pardee was fired. Fisher became their interim Coach and has been their Head Coach ever since.
Fisher served as DC for the Oilers.
Has gruden said anything about coming here or is this just all high hopes
All good news across the board. I`m loven life. As for Gruden, it`s just speculation. But Bronco fans are smart and we know what we want. We understand the game. We have spoken. As for Mr. Bowlen, he knows what to do. He wants a winner and I do have faith in him, John Elway, and whoever they bring in as their coaches. Life is grand!!!
Long time fan first time poster lol keep the high hopes and good news coming I love me some Broncos
Glad to hear about Elway. He is Mr. Bronco in himself. Embodies the broncos way an intregal part of our championships. I would like him involved. Rod Smith and even TD if possible. Hope it works out. Please get Xanders outta here.
I feel like since Marshall has been traded we dont see Rod Smith anymore. Smith was mentoring him and they were pretty close. Dunno if he just stopped getting involved after the Marshall trade, or if it was something else with McD…but he used to be on the sideline. Either way Guys like Rod and Elways are eternal Broncos. They know how much the organization did for them and they would like to contribute to to organization (and of course the community like they have always done).
Everything other than Elway most likely getting an important position in the Bronco organization is at this time pure speculation and will be until the last game of the season as far as the HC position and all other coaching positions are concerned since they are all filled now. The only thing I could see develop before the end of the season is if Elway is indeed officially hired soon, there could be a GM hiring before season end, but I seriously even doubt that since Ellis told Xanders he had to work hard through the end of the season and we would see what happens at season end.
That is why I said earlier all I am looking at for the next four weeks is when will Elway be officially hired and what title position will it be and watching the last 4 games, everything else is a total waste of time for me now, but it seems to occupy a lot of folks’ minds so have fun with it.
And come Monday January 3rd, the day following our last game, look at events to start happening at the speed of light for us to jump on the better candidates, except of course if those candidates are involved in the playoffs, then as per league rules we would have to wait until their respective teams are out of the playoffs to be allowed to enter into negociations. Of course the candidates who are outside of the NFL right now like Gruden, Cowher or Dungy could have preliminary talks taking place as soon as Elway is actually on the job, as I don’t think Bowlen and Ellis are ready to do the hiring on their own once again, but those talks would be so hush hush no one would ever find out until season end.
My recommendation for what it’s worth, watch the last 4 games and hope for Tebow and other rookies to show us what they got and chew your fingernails until we find out in what capacity Elway will help us, and other than that, JUST RELAX and be PATIENT about EVERYTHING ELSE, at least until January 2nd, so we can all have great non stressed Holidays that way.
Anyway, that’s my plan for December.
DenverOranges, welcome to the party. The more the marier. It`s good to be a Bronco fan, isn`t it?
Thanks Bay! Personally I am looking forward to Jan 2. Just curious to see how it all unfolds. But I`m going to relax and enjoy our four remaining games. It`s going to be fun to see how Studs coaches the game from the sidelines. Also looking forward to see if our rookies get some playing time. I especially want to see Tim Tebow start against Houston and S.D. I`ll have to wait and see though.
TRB…
Rod Smith has came in a few times this past off season and helped our Bay Bay on the side lines! I remember after he got done talking to him one day, he lit it up in practice the very next day!
I just hope we hurry up and sign Elway and get our head coach whoever it may be! Remember whenever we brought in McD at the end of the season and he wasn’t ready at all for the draft!!! We need a coach to come in very soon so he can see what we really need! It’s not just a one day job! McD was the prime example for that! I am thinking that that is one of the reasons why we let Mcd go before the end of the season so that we can sign a head coach by the end of the year!!!
Please Bowlen, hurry and sign Elway and everything else should fall into place!!
Broncosfreak30, IT`S TEBOW TIME DUDE!! Hey, whats up man? Can you believe it, McD gone? REFRESHING!
strandoftds,
Its been a tough couple of years but the clouds are starting to lift and in the light I see T-bow marching down the field with 10 other broncos by his side. What a day it will be
Ya, I am tire of trading backwards in the first found. That gets old real quick. We need a dominant DT.
I believe in Tebow. I`m a fan of his. I hope our next HC wants to keep him as our future QB. Thats why we need to start him now and see what he`s got.
Yea I know, I just think we need to hurry and get on the ball and go ahead and get Elway and our new head coach so they can begin evaluating players! I am going to try to come to another game next year so I will let you know if I do and ill try to get you another ticket!
I found this on Gruden right before he coached the Bucs!
Jon Gruden, whose limitless passion and relentless work ethic guided the Oakland Raiders to division titles in each of his final two seasons, was named the seventh head coach in Tampa Bay Buccaneers history on February 18, 2002.
Gruden, the NFL’s youngest head coach at 38, steered the Raiders to a 38-26 regular season mark in his four seasons (1998-2001) with the club, including postseason appearances in 2000 and 2001. Under Gruden, the Raiders advanced to the AFC title game in 2000 and lost this year in a second round playoff game to eventual Super Bowl champion New England. Gruden’s offenses have finished among the league’s Top 10 in each of the last three seasons, including fifth in 1999.
The 2001 Raiders ranked seventh in the NFL total offense, including fourth in passing offense, on their way to a second consecutive division title. Oakland won its first back-to-back AFC West crowns since 1982-83. The Raiders also ranked first in the AFC in red zone touchdown percentage and Pro Bowl QB Rich Gannon was the conference leader in passing, throwing for 3,828 yards and a completion percentage of 65.8. Over the past three seasons under Gruden, Gannon has totaled 949 completions on 1537 attempts (61.7%) for 11,098 yards with 79 touchdowns and just 34 interceptions.
Five Raiders were named to the 2002 Pro Bowl squad, including WR Tim Brown, who made his ninth trip to Hawaii this past season. CB Charles Woodson made his fourth consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl, while Gannon, who led the AFC with a 95.5 QB rating, headed to Hawaii for the third straight season. Gannon was named the game’s MVP in each of the last two contests.
The Raiders ranked among the NFL’s elite in offense, defense and special teams under Gruden’s leadership in 2000, advancing to the AFC Championship Game. The offense led the league in rushing at nearly 155 yards per game and ranked third in the NFL in scoring at almost 30 points per game. Oakland’s 58 touchdowns were tied for the second-most in the league. The Raiders ranked fifth in the NFL in rushing defense (96.9 rushing yards allowed) and fourth in the AFC (seventh in NFL) in takeaways with 37. The Raiders led the NFL in touchbacks (15) and in net punting average (38.0). Gruden and his staff also coached the victorious AFC squad in the most recent Pro Bowl.
