Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced after Wednesday’s practice that veteran center Tom Nalen will have his knee scoped on Thursday. Nalen underwent a similar procedure in the offseason.
“What we are going to do is have Tom get his knee cleaned up a little bit — more preventative than anything else,” Shanahan said. “It hasn’t healed the way we would have liked.”
Nalen was held out of much of training camp due to soreness in his left knee. Shanahan said he hopes after having this procedure that Nalen will be ready in time for the regular season.
“Hopefully it’s nothing serious and can alleviate some of the swelling and the pain and hopefully he is ready to go by the first game.”

I hope Nalen’s career isn’t over. One more productive year out of him would be huge.
Ya I agree… if everything else works out right, having him in could mean big things for the running game, I’m worried without him but Maybe Wiegman (spelling?) can take up the load eventually if worse comes to worst
It’s been pretty obvious from the very start of training camp that at best, Tom Nalen will be a part time player. Wegman, with a lot of years under his belt also is, at best, a part time player. Time to give as much playing time to next years starting center and see how he can do this year. The more reps the 2009 starters have and the sooner they have them, the better for the Broncos.
Turn out the lights the party is over and all good things must end. Nalen is a Hall of Famer and a Ring of Famer. He hasn’t gotten any time with the first team because of this and its time to call it a GREAT career.
Kory Lictensteiger will be a solid guy for many years to come and next year after they give Wiegman the Denver boot #67 in your playbook will start for the next 12 years.
Nalen you are the man, congrats on a fine career.
GO BRONCOS.
I agree Tom Nalen may be put on PUP or call it quits. BUT Casey Wiegmann has played very very good and do not forget, he was all pro at KC for many years. Some may question letting Chris Myers go but he was not a true center and has limited upper body.
I am Ok with Casy Wiegmann and Kory Lichtensteiger at center. Remember that Ben Hamilton can also play center.
