After recording two rushing touchdowns in the Broncos’ regular-season finale, Knowshon Moreno is one of five rookies vying for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week honor.

The rookie running back finished with 50 rushing yards, 48 receiving yards and those two scores in Denver’s 44-24 loss to Kansas City. Moreno previously won this award in Week 4, Week 5, and Week 12.

In 16 games this season, Moreno led all rookies with 947 rushing yards. He added 213 receiving yards and reached the end zone nine times — seven via the rush and two via the pass.

Texans running back Arian Foster, Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis, Jaguars tight end Zach Miller, and Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace are the other finalists this week for the the honor. You can vote for Moreno here through Wednesday at 4 p.m. MST.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honor. You can vote for Moreno here throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida.

and who cares about this award

    buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  3. jsmith337 says:

Who needs a receiver, that’s ahead of us? I would love us to get Mr. Suh from Nebraska, but not sure we have enough fire power to do so. Also wouldn’t mind seeing Boldin here as WR either?

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Are you kidding me? Voting for anybody after a game like this is absurd, just about everyone wants us to buy into the McD’s team concept and then we are asked to go vote for a guy who ran for 50 yards while the opposition ran for 317 yards, what a joke, sorry Moreno, you won’t get my vote, but I’m sure you won’t need it since plenty of fans of yours will vote 1000 times each to get you the Pepsi prize. I’m sick to my stomach…

  5. baylinorcrush says:

Seattle needs a receiver real bad, we trade them Marshall for their first and 3rd and we then have a real good shot at landing Suh.

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Meaning we could offer the Rams our sixth from Seattle and our second round pick for their first, the # 1 pick, or something along that line.

  7. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

That’s great for Moreno, but, different coaches, different players, same result; a complete second half season let down.

I don’t think a coach should ever question a player on an injury, and at the same time I don’t think a player should say on Thursday that he can’t play in a game with playoffs on the line, especially when the MRI comes back negative. It’s always a game time decision. As talented as he is, Brandon Marshall is a bit soft. Every time he has a big play he comes off the field. And Hines Ward would have never told the coach that he couldn’t play on Thursday!!!

    Brandon Marshall: C’MON MAN!

How can the O line, made up of the same players as last season, for the most part, become totally inept in the running game as the season went on? Has to be coaching, or heart.

Look at the teams who’ve won the SB this decade, and who are in the playoffs right now. They have elite QB’s and/or a top rated Defense. Orton did a good job this year but he has no creativity when the play breaks down. I don’t think he is the answer unless we have a top rated D and an excellent running game. Look at the Jets and the 2000 Ravens.

Now that the season is done we can grade the draft. I give it a C. Moreno is a good RB but Ayers wasn’t great. Any one of Cushing, Matthews, Maualuga or Orakpo could have been a Bronco. They all had much better seasons. Giving up a pick for Alphonso Smith is still in question. Free Agency is where McD really shined. I give it an A.

Overall I give the Broncos Organization, Team, Coaches, everything a C- for the year because changing everything over and having the same result cannot be considered a victory. If they just would have beaten the Raiders at home, this would be a completely different situation. And to lose the way they did yesterday with playoffs on the line was completely inexcusable. This exact thing is what got Mike Shanahan fired, a possible future Hall of Fame Coach.

I think McD will learn a lot from this year and the Broncos will be a much more consistent team next year but I have to say when they were on top of their game I think they could beat ANY team in the league. That is promising.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Suh is the only player this year that would be worth that kind of gamble, exactly who we need, let’s get creative.

  9. brian_schneider says:

Seriously why is Moreno up for this award? Is it only because he is a rookie, which is the reason I hope. A performance like that doesn’t deserve awards. 50 yards rushing…50 yards…that would be amazing if you only had one leg.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

    LMAO….

  11. nw3030 says:

Suh is the only player i can see that is worth that also bay. but it is highly unlikely the broncs do make that kind of move. I have recently been looking at alot of mock drafts and made up one of my own. all that being said i made it before the brandon debacle. so it could very well change but if my guess is right we either have the 10th or the 11th pick. which i think we should use on McClain from alabama. A D played well for us But if McClain comes out and is avaiable.he could give us a GREAT inside tandem for years. But who knows McD could trade out to stock pile more picks also.

  12. nw3030 says:

And if brandon does go bye bye we could use the other pick on maybe Lafell wideout from LSU or Bryant from OKst but he would be a gamble considering he has had some problems of late

  13. baylinorcrush says:

Everyone here knows I want help at D line first, then O line second, so I won’t even address drafting wide outs, sorry. We need help at RB before we need any help at WR, even if we lose Marshall. It’s ludicrous to even think we need help at skill positions when we have proven that our foundation in the trenches is in a crumbling state.. Just my opinion.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

It’s like you don’t put a roof on a house before you put the walls up, it seems so elementary, I can’t believe it even needs to be discussed. I mean no disrespect, just saying.

  15. nw3030 says:

That may be your opinion and i believe that we are fine at wideout also but McD did draft moreno without a huge need there. plus behind suh there really isnt a DL worth taking that high. McCoy is good but one dimensional, Williams same arguement. and OLine forget about it. all the good ones are tackles. their is not a first round talent at guard in this draft. That is why you might want to look at the best player avaiable scenerio. thats all im saying

  16. brian_schneider says:

I think we needed Moreno. Buck couldn’t handle the full load this season and we really didn’t have anyone else. Hillis (we all saw him carry the ball..very little), Jordan (C’mon should’ve quit in Oaktown). I think that getting Moreno was one of McD’s better moves. Moreno still has a lot to learn but I think he’ll become our guy just like Davis was. I do think maybe instead of taking Ayers we should’ve taken a D-lineman. I think Hamilton’s days are numbered so I think we may look to pick up a guard or two in either the draft or FA.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

I don’t buy picking the best player available, I believe in picking for needs, if we can address our needs in the free agency, i.e. Vince Woolfork, etc… then it opens some doors up for the draft, but I still say more D line, O line and power RB’s is where all our problems are. We take care of the basics, then we can move on to other areas. I’m from Austin, I don’t think McCoy has the body build to handle the punishment in the NFL, I’ve seen him as a longhorn for his entire career, I don’t see anything there worth the gamble of a first pick, IMO. Rather see Brandstater develop.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

In my eyes Moreno was a mistake for the simple reason that Orapko, another Austinite, was available then. Orapko and Doom would of been a frightening combo for any QB in this league.

  19. nw3030 says:

my bad bay i was not talking about colt i was talking about gerald from OU the defensive tackle and dan williams from tenn. quarterback is a ways down on my list.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

    nw3030, understood.

  21. nw3030 says:

i agree orakpo would have been great. i do like your idea about a power running back though. toby gerhart might still be worth looking at in the third

  22. nw3030 says:

vince wilfork? is he RFA or UFA.. that could be a nice pick up. plus he is a patsy josh will love that lol

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, he is a lot like Hillis and McD would use him since he would draft him. LOL. I like what I see in that young man, lot of heart and very stout.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Wilfork, my bad, not sure which he is but we probably should make a move for him regardless, unless we set ourselves up to pick Suh with a Marshall trade, of course.

  25. brian_schneider says:

Would trading Marshall be worth Suh?

  26. nw3030 says:

He is a bruiser thats for sure. i dont think josh keeps hillis and jordan may be gone to so drafting another back that can pick up a few tough yards would be worth it

  27. baylinorcrush says:

A resounding yes, because without a beast at the nose in our 3-4 D, we are nothing, as we proved. We don’t need a beast as bad at the WR position, even so it’s nice to have.

  28. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

    Ugh.

On a lighter note, we don’t need any wide recievers. That position is the least of our problems.

  29. whitebronco#1 says:

Thanks broncos fans friends for this season. Interesting, full of debate and up and downs (in that order).

I’ll make a break because, no matter I knew since May we would be like this in record and without playoffs this year, the way the final part of the season unfolded pisses me off madly. So, as I have nothing good to say right now, then I wont.

See ya in February or March (when there’s something real and interesting to discuss about).

    Happy new year everyone.
    Cheers!
    Go Broncooos!

  30. baylinorcrush says:

    Thank you, mod27.

  31. nw3030 says:

Oh yeah that trade would be worth it. in my opinion suh and eric berry are cant miss prospects. and if denver does get a 1 and 3 moving up to take suh would be amazing. he is the real deal he can clog the run and get to the passer better than anyone in the draft

  32. wildhorse22 says:

the o-line is difficult to figure on the fix these guys really did well protecting Orton but run blocking esp. short yardage not good.wide receiver marshall done he was done before the season started matter of fact he wanted to leave before shanahan was gone he only played as good as he did this year because his agent told him he would lose out on his best contract of his career if he didnt preform this year.ego’s like marshalls and T.O’s and others never help a teams mental play so time to move on and find some one with the right ego (Rod Smith style) Talent is some, but without the right mentality of playing as a team they will never get far.It is a team sport, just got to clean up the ones that are taking it as an individual sport.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

whitebronco#1, see you for the free agency, there should be plenty to talk about then.

  34. Ruc says:

Apologies 2 Bay 4 the other post (honestly). I did not see that post & I actually completely agree with you on what you said about how McD fed into the media. I’m just hoping & believing he will grow as a coach and learn from the mistakes he DID make…..Now 4 vabroncoguy….Wow….Never attempt to insult someone you don’t know over THEIR opinion. For all you know I could be CRAZY (which I’m not). You cannot tell me I do not know football because I DO. All I do (including during the offseason) is read football related stuff. Music & Football are basically my life. I don’t find anything “stupid” in nothing I said because most of it was based on FACT. I just voiced my opinion AND stated the FACTS unlike you. IMO this team HAS upgraded. We now have leaders. DAWK had OVER 100 tackles @ the safety position. That is an (upgrade). Goodman made plenty of plays that Bly didn’t last year (upgrade). Check our sack total….(upgrade). I know football enough to notice that TEAM PLAYERS GROW INTO A GREAT TEAM TOGETHER.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

    Well spoken, Wildhorse.

  36. Ruc says:

  37. baylinorcrush says:

Ruc, don’t worry about vabroncoguy, that’s how he goes at things with everyone, I included, while I respect his opinion, I have long ago quit engaging him.

  38. nw3030 says:

I think my reciever comment got takin out of context. again i dont think we need one but Mcd has shown that he likes to stock pile skill postions. and at the very least if he does let brandon go then he MAY look at it. I hope not

  39. Ruc says:

Also…I will not insult vabroncoguy because that would be immature of me to exchange insults and I’m not that (by that I mean immature). I didn’t mean to post that so many times though. My laptop is acting up….I have a question also…Does the “va” in “vabroncoguy” stand for Virginia?

  40. Ruc says:

Lol yea I pretty much noticed. As 4 me I’m a DIE-HARD Bronco “Fairweather” fan from Virginia (there’s definitely not that many of us here). I seriously love the Broncos as if I live in Denver lol. I even think about it @ times (moving there) but I can’t stand cold weather. I just want to see the team succeed and in my eyes I believe we’re going to. I just get this feeling that McD will learn from his misakes (which have mainly come from feeding into the media too much) and I just simply dislike self players. That’s all….

  41. brian_schneider says:

I’m sure Bowlen and McD will sit down and have a nice long chat about all that has transpired this season.

  42. killerkod says:

Being Canadian, I don’t really know too much about college ball so I have no idea about drafting and eligible players. But I do know, either through drafting or free agency, that our biggest concern is the D-line. We got ran on waaaaaaay too much this year. But then again, that seems to be every year, doesn’t it?

This has been such a let-down season. I think it would be easier to swallow to just go 3-13, cause that;s exactly how it feels like anyways. To lose 8 of your last 10 games is absolutely disgusting and I hope everyone of those players are ashamed of themselves.

Quoting Romeo Crennell, “They are what we thought they were!” hahaha

Oh well, time to pick a team to root for in the playoffs and daydream of next year when our Broncos finish 16-0.

It’s been fun posting my comments on here this year……a lot of great debate and it’s nice to be part of the Broncos community, even living up here in the Canadian Arctic.

  43. Ruc says:

Yea VERY looooooooooooooooooooooooonng lol. I truly feel they’re somewhat on the same page about this organization tho…

  44. beefdirkus says:

I agree with most of you. I do not see recievers being a big deal in the off season even if we get rid of BM. The receiving core is fine. I do not see Mc D going after a receiver in the draft (unless it is a late round). For years the Pats made do with average receivers or basically no receivers (until recently when they aquired Moss, which has not helped because they have not won a superbowl with Moss). In my opinion receivers are a dime a dozen. Except for the top 3-4 receivers the rest are interchangeable.

I really think this year the focus will be on Defense and specifically d line and line backers. Last year the draft was running back and a few db’s. This year will be linemen (o and d) and linebackers. The skill positions are okay.

I say re sign Orton for another year or 2 until you figure out if Bransteter is the future (or figure out who the furture is going to be). I do not like the idea of drafting a QB right now. You know what you have in Orton. Drafting a QB is always a crap shoot.

  45. broncofanlvnm says:

Yeah, we all HOPE the focus will be on defense, but given what happened last year, it is anybody’s guess what the free agency and the draft will bring. I hope they focus on the D-line first as to most others here. As I said before it all starts up front in the trenches. We can’t keep getting pushed around or were going nowhere. BTW Killerkod I think that was Dennis Green you were quoting after AZ blew the game against CHI a couple years ago not Romeo.

  46. beefdirkus says:

    And by the way,
Who gets an award for 50 yards of rushing in a 44-24 loss.
Moreno must be the only rookie running back that played. lol.

  47. broncofanlvnm says:

He did have 48 yards receiving for total of 98 yds from scrimmage. I think that’s what has him in the running. Who cares at this point anyway? Only Moreno I guess.

  48. brian_schneider says:

It does make me feel better to know that Culter and the Bears sucked it up bad this season too. LOL!!!

  49. dbroncos6 says:

10th pick in the draft. lets draft JIMMY CLAUSEN. he doesnt throw interceptions he does get sacked alot but that wont happen with the denver o line. and hes great with the deep ball for marshall and royal. i think this would be a great pick

  50. florio's_mom says:

    Undeserved.
