Moreno Nominated for FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week

December 11th, 2012 - 7:43am by Stuart Zaas

After carrying the ball a career-high 32 times for 119 yards and a touchdown, running back Knowshon Moreno has been named a finalist for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week award.

His 32 carries led all NFL rushers in Week 14 games and his 119 yards on the ground marked the third 100-yard game of his career.

After the Broncos recovered an onside kick with 5:36 left in the game, Moreno helped seal the win with seven carries for 39 yards and three first downs that allowed the team to run out the clock and secure a 26-13 win over the Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

Moreno also caught four passes for 48 yards to finish with 167 total yards from scrimmage, which marked the second-highest total of his career.

To vote for Moreno, visit NFL.com/FedEX. Voting is open through 1 p.m. MST on Friday, Nov. 14. The winners will be announced Friday on NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com.

As part of the Air & Ground program and its commitment to small business owners, FedEx will support education efforts at Junior Achievement by making weekly $2,000 donations in each of the winning players’ names. The funding, allocated to local Junior Achievement area offices in that team’s city or state, is used to help U.S. small business development, by educating the next generation of entrepreneurs on how to start and grow their own businesses.

This is the kind of story I love and a great conversation to have with my kids. Put on practice squad , keeps his head up and is showing what a great team mate he is. I hope he can just stay healthy for his sake as he obviously has winning character.

This is gona be a tough vote for him to win. Marshawn Lynch had a heck of a game too. He had 3 tds, 128yds, and avg. 11.6 yds per carry. Freakin nuts. Ill be suprised if Moreno does get it, but its cool that he got nominated.

    Go Broncos!!!

Marshawn Lynch is fun to watch. I’m a fan of his. May the best man win. LOL

  8. brian_schneider says:

Lynch has been the starter though, and I know they really don’t consider the context in which the nominees performed. Even though Moreno was a former first round draft pick, when does a RB from the practice squad become the starter and be productive as Moreno has and productive in key situations as stated above.

  9. strandoftds82 says:

I’d vote for Lynch putting up those numbers. The 3 TD’s and 11.6 yards average, Marshawn deserves the award I’d say.

The DP has reported that the Ravens are allowing 21 points per game.

  11. strandoftds82 says:

So this Thursday nights game is the last game for a Thursday nighter, Bengals vs Eagles.

  12. Royalbroncofan1 says:

And next Monday is the last Monday Night game….. Jets vs. Titans!

  13. bfree2bronc says:

@strandoftds82: The broncos are allowing 19.8, so give or take a point the Broncos defense is slightly better than the Ravens’, so that really isn’t a difference maker. I believe this game will hinge on who makes less mistakes, and executes the plays. They’re banged up, we’re banged up, making for a battle of the trenches, and whoever wins that will win…27 – 23 Broncos…

  14. strandoftds82 says:

Bfree, it’ll be a good game to watch.

Im worries about the Offensive coordinator switch though, There is going to be ome offensive plays that our defense will not be expecting because it is not on film, I also dont like that Peytons old Quaterback coach is the new coordinator because you know he is shelling out everything he knows about peyton and how he reads defenses to their defense. I think this game is going to come down to the defenses. Hopefully ours comes to their house fire up!!!

    Great work #27!
