Moreno in Running for Weekly Award

December 1st, 2009 - 9:27am by Zach Eisendrath

After his performance on the ground in Week 12, Knowshon Moreno has once again been nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award, the NFL announced on Tuesday.

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Paul Kruger and Arizona Cardinals kick returner LaRod Stephens-Howling are the other finalists for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors.

Moreno paced the Broncos with 88 rushing yards on 19 carries and scored his fourth touchdown of the season against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving night.

Through his first 11 games on the pro circuit, the University of Georgia product leads all rookies in rushing attempts with 161 and rushing yards with 688.

An NFL Week-12 high 26.3 percent of his runs (5-of-19) went for at least 10 yards against the Giants. During the last three weeks, nearly one of every four runs by Moreno has gone for at least 10 yards for an NFL-best 23.4 percent rate (11-47) over that stretch.

Moreno has posted at least 80 rushing yards three games in a row. During the last three weeks, he leads all NFL rookies and ranks sixth in the NFL with 265 rushing yards and is third in the league in yards per rush with 5.6. He also leads NFL rookies and is third in the league with 15 rushing first downs during that stretch.

Moreno won the weekly award in back-to-back weeks earlier this season, being named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week following Week 4 and Week 5, respectively.

I expect Moreno to have another strong game this week! Lightnin in a bottle lol….. He seems to be adjusting well to the zone blocking scheme and I think he should be able to crack 100 yards this week. Go Rook…………….

HMMMmm. not sure if he deserves itr as much as Britt, but I’ll vote for him anyway. KM is having a pretty solid Rookie year.

On a side note. I hope the Patriot winning Broncos show up this week, not the Redskins losing one. Win this thing and then shock the colts next week and show we are a legit team.

Nice job Knoshon! I think that shove on the sideline by marshal might have sparked a little fire in your running. I have been saying it for weeks now and I will say it again this week, Your due for a Monster game coming up. We need it, you need it! Lets take it to the Chefs this week, I cant stand them in December, always a tough place to play.

Lets hope that hand heals up by then. ***Does anybody know his status for this week by the way***??

Anyway great game on thanksgiving lets ride this wave into KC this week, one game at a time baby!!!! Go Broncos!!!!

I know being a rookie there is a learning curve, but that game he showed why we took him. Hopefully he turns into our “homerun” threat like he was at Georgia. It’s been a while since we’ve had a primier back.
    Congrats Knowshon!

    Go Broncos!!!

I didn’t like when we drafted Moreno before, Me being a buckeye, I wanted Beanie Wells on the team, but I really think Knowshon Moreno is truly a good running back, and not just benefiting from a good O-line and a good system.

Once he completes his adjustment to the NFL and starts to show better ball control and vision he may be a threat after all. Consistency has been our greatest defeat in our last 5 so hopefully the Giants win can give us that needed push in the right direction. We have shown signs that we are for real, but unless we win the next 4 out of 5 it is a rebuilding year. So I am really hoping that Knowshon keeps his head up and shoulders down, holds on tight and gives defenses a reason to fear the once dreaded Broncos run attack.

    Skills to pay the bills.

Well deserved. A great talent. Scared me a little at the start, but learned how to duck under those big hits. Big Georgia shoes to fill, but very capable. Would like to see him get more carries.

Way to go Knowshon, shortly after the draft I predicted @ my work place that you would get close to 1200 yards this season. I’d say that it’s still a possibility. I also predicted that Cutler would have more int’s than td’s, and that Chicago would only have 6 wins. So far so good. LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Broncos and bring home a sweep of Chiefs, and Raiders. And if you guys should beat Indy, and Philadelphia that would be great also.

im also interested in moreno’s injury status! i was pretty bummed when he had to come out in the 4th quarter. he would have broke 100 yds if he hadnt got hurt. here’s to hoping he is ok
    Go Broncos

tjnartw: Sounds like your on to something with your predictions, so far so good anyway! Just two questions?? are we going to beat the Chiefs this weekend and turn around that awful 1-17 record there in December? And am i going to get all that cool Harley Davidson stuff I’ve been wanting for Christmas? lol…………………
