Moreno, Harris Out

September 24th, 2010 - 1:06pm by Gray Caldwell

Head Coach Josh McDaniels announced Friday morning that Knowshon Moreno and Ryan Harris will not suit up for this Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. They are listed as out on the injury report.

Harris had been listed on the injury report this week with an ankle injury. He practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday, but didn’t practice Thursday or Friday.

Moreno wasn’t on the injury report initially, but McDaniels said that he “just sustained a little something that we won’t be able to play through this week, yesterday.” He didn’t practice Friday.

In his stead, Andre Brown, Correll Buckhalter and Laurence Maroney are all ready to step up on Sunday.

“In this business, you can’t expect anything,” said Maroney, who had full participation on Thurdsay and Friday despite a thigh injury. “I know one thing — I’m going to be prepared for whatever comes my way, whatever Josh (McDaniels) asks of me.”

McDaniels said he is hopeful that both Champ Bailey (foot) and Andre’ Goodman (thigh), who both practiced for the first time this week on Friday, will suit up on Sunday.

“They both want to play, and I think they’re getting closer to being ready and able to,” he said.

Both cornerbacks are listed as questionable.

As for the rest of the injury report, Chris Kuper (knee) and Wesley Woodyard (hamstring) are listed as questionable, and Maroney and Darcel McBath (forearm) are probable.

For the Colts, Anthony Gozalez, Ramon Humber and Bob Sanders are listed as out for Sunday’s game. Joseph Addai, Charlie Johnson, Clint Session, Pierre Garcon, Brandon King and Eric Foster are questionable. Gary Brackett, Jeff Saturday and Jerraud Powers are probable.

LOVE FOR LITTLE

Welcome to Floyd Little Weekend.

The newest Bronco in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Denver to receive his Hall of Fame ring at halftime on Sunday. He will be joined by several other Broncos Ring of Fame members and President and CEO Pat Bowlen during the ceremony.

“The greatest thing is that the Broncos have given this weekend for me,” Little said while visiting Dove Valley on Friday. “Pat Bowlen has made it a Floyd Little Weekend, which in itself is an honor. To have my family here, which I admire and love and respect, to have them here to be a part of it, to have many of my teammates here that I played with while I was here to be a part of that — it’s a special moment for me.”

Little was enshrined in Canton, Ohio, in August, and after receiving his gold jacket and bronze bust, the ring is the third and final symbol of his induction into the elite fraternity.

And he wouldn’t have it any other way than to receive it in front of the Broncos faithful.

“The crowd here has been so supportive and so loyal over the years,” Little said. “I can’t imagine what it will be like in the stadium.”

During the team’s alumni weekend, he will have a chance to reconnect with old teammates and younger former Broncos, who occasionally give him a hard time.

Billy Thompson, for one, nicknamed Little “Folks,” short for Old Folks, just to poke at the running back’s age.

“So I have two nicknames — ‘Folks’ and ‘The Franchise,’” Little smiled. “I think I like ‘The Franchise’ better.”

And the Franchise is comfortable knowing that he will forever be among the greatest to ever play the game.

“The good thing about being in this selected group of players — they can’t cut you, they can’t fire you and they can’t trade you. You are in for eternity and it’s great,” Little said. “Boy, that is one great feeling to have — to be a part of that.”

  3. beefdirkus says:

Not good going against Manning when both starting corners are banged up, hope they are both ready to go.

I think we just receive better news than bad ones. To hear that Knowshon is gonna be out for the game, is sad. On the other hand, I have faith in what a proven RB like Maroney could provide for us on the field, and try to fill in for us as much as possible, knowing most of McD’s system is their days in N.E. Hopefully we won’t to feel the absence of Moreno that much.
Being that said, I’m very happy to hear that Goodman and, of course, Champ are likely to play. Come on, we need our secondary at it’s best to have a chance against “Gayton Manlovering” LOL…
As I said, in my eyes, there’s more good stuff to read hear than bad stuff.
Have faith Broncos Country! What about another 3 picks we take from manning!
    Go Broncos!!!!

Glad 2 see Champ and Goody at practice…..CHEERS….BOTTOMS UP!!!!!!

  7. Ikiratuki says:

We better put up the best defense in the league this Sunday. The bright spot if any on defense will be in the redzone if there will be any. On offense the passing game will have to make up for Moreno IMO. This game is definitely winnable but with that said, I just can’t root against Manning against a hurt secondary and a below average pass rush.

    30-17 Colts

  8. 1nOnlyTRB says:

well as long as Morenos injury is only “a lil something” let him rest up and bring him back next week. I dont think anything really happened, i think they are just trying to give him more rest so he can get 100 percent. You will notice that Maroney and Brown were both activated and practicing long before the Injury was announced so i guess they wanna give him Moreno a break and break in Maroney and Brown. This screws with my fantasy but wateva. Heal up Moreno. Now im not sure if i should play maroney in fantasy cuz i picked him up today.

Glad to see goodman and champ practice. Id rather they sit out, and be 100 percent for next week. Cuz playing banged up is room for reinjury and may be more detrimental to us in the long run, but war horses like champ and goody will not sit still. I believe champ called it his “Pride as a CB”. Good luck Broncos. We will need it.

  9. footballMANIAC says:

Sorry, but especially with all the injuries, 31-17 Colts. But I hope otherwise. Win it for Kenny!

  10. broncoholic19 says:

Its really hard to say who will win this game. because of course i want to say the broncos will win, cause being a fan you think they will win every game. but truly the colts have had are number for the last 6 years. thats why i get so nervous when we play them. so i think if we win its going to be by very little. but if the colts win it going to be by alot. cause if they get up by more then 2 touchdowns they will stay ahead the rest of the game and win by more the 2 touchdowns.
    so..
    if broncos win.
    broncos 27 colts 24
    if colts win
    colts 42 broncos 27

  11. nc.bronco says:

KM has been big in the short pass and run . . . Orton will be pushed this week by quick DE’s and may have to check down alot. Let’s hope that Maroney has taken enough reps to be in sync on those plays.

  12. sndvl says:

So thats what, 11 regular season games and counting with Harris out???

KM pulled his other hammy? Give up the disco dude.

    GO BRONCOS 2K10!

  13. royalbroncofan1 says:

BFE: Yes, it will be tough for our O-line to protect KO, but here’s hoping we won’t have just one OT lineman blocking Dwight Freeney, although on some plays, that may be the case. The Giants pretty much left their OT on an island vs. Freeney last Sunday night.
Let’s see if we can get two TE formations to help out, and FB Larsen chipping in as well. KO has improved at making his reads alot quicker this year, therefore that’s why I say, he just needs a LITTLE time…. lol.

Last year, we had 3 int’s vs. Manning with two of those coming off tipped passes at the line of scrimmage, both of which were intercepted by B-Dawk. At 6’7″, let’s see if we can get J. Moss to get in the throwing lanes to try and cause some disruption.

Moreno played hard last Sunday and earned his keep. Let him heal up cuz we’ll need him for the Titans. Lawrence Maroney had success in the past vs. the Colts, so we’ll see if he can get on track this weekend, as he most likely will rotate with Buck. Brown also activated.

No question this game is one of our early season tough matchups.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!

  14. strandoftds says:

Yea, with Champ and Goody maybe playing, thats half the battle right there. Sure gives me more confidence going against Manning.

  15. broncosfreak30 says:

Well I for one am glad that we are giving Moreno a game off and letting him heal up. He definitely hasn’t looked 100% on his running game and I have been dying to see what Maroney and Brown will do for us! I really think that they can make a huge difference right away, especially Maroney! He definitely has something to prove that trading him was a bad idea, so he definitely has a huge opportunity on Sunday and hopefully he will have a huge game and hopefully that will then make Moreno step up his game and run better!! Overall, whether its Brown or Maroney that steps up and produces, it will make our whole running game better which sounds great to me!!!

Wouldn’t it be awesome if Maroney came out on top Sunday with a 100 yd rushing game!! It’s definitely not impossible!!

I say that Royal, Thomas, and Maroney have a very big game this Sunday!! I would also love to see Brown step up and do something big!!!

I love me some Broncos Country!!!

  16. camharland says:

Don’t count us out quite yet, even if champ dont play. Moreno is out and Maroney is most likely in and I like what I see of him on tape. (Moreno/Maroney: That sounded weird in my head)
Even if we do go 1-2 it’s not the end of the world. We need to make sure that our players are 100% and shake off this injury bug. If we can go 2-2 with our top players healthy I think we can make a playoff run and maybe more. I guess we’ll see. Beat the Colts and make my ranting insignificant! Go Broncos!

  17. baylinorcrush says:

broncoholic19, if you want to be entered in our little competition, one score pick only.

  18. Manny 01 says:

I might sound crazy but I feel a loss to the colts by two points, is beter than losing by two TD or winning. This is the first of five tuff games ahead of us. So our broncos can see they can compete againt the best. A win to the colts can make them cocky and the moment they find their self behind it can get back in the game, that will lead to more problems all season long. But this game is a game I would love to us win. I’m very excited about sunday!!! Lets go denver prove me wrong.

  19. 19bk90 says:

    Broncos 21
    Colts 17

  20. Broncomania56 says:

Do not count out the Broncos, the team is measurably better than last years encounter with the Colts. Another point is that we are at home and that will help.

The difference in last years game was 2 field goals vs. 2 touchdowns, stupid holding penalties, and home field advantage for the Colts. Not this year, let’s have faith and hope the Grass under the Colts feet slows em down and the noise from the 12th man makes Mannings day uncomfortable…… Go Broncos 37-34 Broncos!!!!

  21. denver0723 says:

I wish I had internet at my apartment so I could get on here sooner. Hopefully my paychecks will allow me to afford it soon. (I’m in college) Until then I will have to keep using internet at my girlfriends house haha.

She has no NFL team favorite, so I am working at making her a Broncos fan! haha.

Score Prediction: 27-24 Broncos over the Colts. I prefer to stay optimistic.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

…stop getting hurt all the time…

  22. denver0723 says:

get on here more often* i dont know why i used the word sooner. oh well haha.

  23. FTR says:

I’ am glad I decided not to pick scores this season!! The Broncos will play this week like they should play every week! Focused and with a chip on their shoulders! Been a very tough week for our team!! Win or Lose I will be proud of them!
    GO BRONCOS!!

  26. qbsgo2dumervil says:

I would love to see the broncos win in a shoot out against the colts. 42-35. And I wish the broncos would stop getting hurt all the time. Glad to see our secondary getting healthy with Champ and Goody. But I hope we get to see McBath this week. Just my thoughts.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  27. theotheredge says:

    Kenny – RIP.

  28. theotheredge says:

I have a feeling that Denver can pull out this victory by a small margin…everyone is guessing a shoot out…i think it might be the opposite…20-17 Denver. Late field goal by Prater to seal this game..like life, too many things are over exaggerated and presumed. Like KMcK, things are left unknown. But I do know that I love and the Broncos and the organization..and eventually, someday we will win the hard fought battle. Battle boys, for your fallen teammate. Battle for your fans around the world who feel you, battle for your current purpose in life…win this game, no matter what the score or the consequences….Veterans/Captains – we are looking to you to guide us..

No Moreno, Secondary banged up…tough tough task this weekend…Think this one is gonna be on the D..Time for To Wink to make that money……

    GO ORANGE&BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. baylinorcrush says:

Correct me guys if I’m wrong but so far this regular season I think every time we have someone listed questionable they’ve been out. That would mean Bailey, Goodman, Woodyard and Kuper all listed questionable most likely out with Moreno and Harris already ruled out. So the only good news on injury front is McBath will be back and Maroney will be able to show us what he’s got.

That is a tough injury front to say the least, two of your mainstay out on an O line which is a work in progress even when healthy. Your top RB out, and you two starting corners out (that is if questionable means out like it usually does).

So, let’s recap: No way to count on the running game because of the depleted O line and top running back out (unless you think two guys who have NEVER run the ball with us and one who NEVER remains healthy can get it done with half an O line), so no way to keep Manning off the field controling the clock with the running game, so Manning can throw all day to his WR’s against second string corners and to Clark against LB’s who are not good against short passes. Other than that we should be fine and dandy for this one?

So far, it seems to be the consensus with the fans, 24 pick us to win and only 8 to lose… LAST DAY TO POST YOUR PICK, NO PICK ON GAME DAY.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

I never was a big fan of Moreno as most of you here know, and as time goes by it becomes increasingly obvious that his NFL career will be marred with difficulties, sometimes it’s on short yardage, sometimes it’s dancing around with no place to go, and most of the time it’s playing hurt or sitting on the sidelines with injuries. This guy has a major long way to go to prove McD right with his first first round pick here.

Here is the breakdown on his latest breakdown:

The injury suffered by Broncos starting running back Knowshon Moreno during practice Thursday was to his left hamstring, not the hamstring he pulled on the first day of training camp on Aug. 1, according to two NFL sources. Moreno yanked the right hamstring in camp, an injury that sidelined him for more than four weeks and the entire preseason. It was the left hamstring that Moreno injured during practice Thursday, a setback that will keep him out of the game Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

The biggest positive for the game is the Colts injury report, some serious casualties there, unfortunately Manning is manning the helm, and he is better than anyone at making do with nothing or nobodies, he makes everyone look like all world, you gotta hate the guy, I do, specially when he orchestrates thing on the LOS, makes me cringe just thinking about it. I guess the only way I could like him is if I was a Colts fan.

For the Colts injuries, Anthony Gozalez, Ramon Humber and Bob Sanders are listed as out for Sunday’s game. Joseph Addai, Charlie Johnson, Clint Session, Pierre Garcon, Brandon King and Eric Foster are questionable.

I don’t know if their questionables are usually out like ours, but if they are that would make 9 guys out! Ouch. Is that where most our hopes rest?

  34. baylinorcrush says:

The rubberband effect, now that’s funny, by Klis:

Knowshon Moreno is experiencing the tailback version of the rubber-band effect. Those same tightly wound leg muscles that helped Moreno become the first running back selected in the 2009 draft are seemingly also prone to snapping.

    Hammy, hammy….

  35. baylinorcrush says:

JUST MADE MY DAY, here in Texas I just found out they will be showing our game on the CBS double header, EXTREMELY RARE HERE!!

  36. baylinorcrush says:

The only way that even has a shot at happening is when the Cowboys AND the Texans don’t play at the same time we do, and as luck would have it they play eachother in the early game on FOX, that’s gonna be a fun game to watch too, definitely rooting for Kubiak’s team on that one and for Dallas to fall to 0-3.

  37. baylinorcrush says:

And they are not showing the game for the Broncos but for the Colts who are the Texans nemesis and in the same division, all the stars have to be aligned just right, this is one of those days, rare indeed.

  38. baylinorcrush says:

OC, hope you’re allright, haven’t heard from you since the Jacksonville game….

  39. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Im a fan of Moreno cuz I believe if he was in the right system and 100 percent he would be amazing. Dont liek our running scheme, i have been very upfront about that. He still has the potential but this getting hurt alot thing is holding back that potential. Still think we need a new strength and conditioning coach. Maybe there arent that many qualified ones hanging around. But calling us snake bitten is pure superstition there has to be a real factor (for those like me who take superstitions with a grain of salt). Anyway good luck Broncos. I think I already gave my prediction. Was something like 27-17 Broncos. and if I didnt give it there it is. (even tho I am pretty sure we will get spanked by the colts lol) But then again houston didnt have HOF calliber DBs and they thrived. So can we.

  40. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, you had 34-24 Bronco win.

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

  44. baylinorcrush says:

OC, good to see you’re ok.

BFE, the Titans are on here tomorrow too, and they are always big here and on often, for two reasons: 1) They came from the Houston Oilers, 2) Vince Young from the Longhorns is their QB.

  45. UKBroncos says:

    Hello all from the UK!

I’m taking it as a “predictions” game rather than “guess the score that Denver will win by, if they win” game.

So I gotta go Colts this week. Probably our toughest game of the year with the colts looking great last week and us still all banged up. If ever you were gonna predict against the Broncos….

    31-21 Colts
