Monday Night Football

September 13th, 2012 - 5:57pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos opened the season in style under the lights of Sunday Night Football in Week 1.

Denver is the only show in town again in Week 2.

“I’ve been dreaming about this since I was 7,” rookie defensive end Derek Wolfe said.

This time, it’s Monday Night Football for Denver, on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.

“It’s always exciting, just like Christmas,” cornerback Tracy Porter said. “You know when Christmas is, so you’re still excited to get those gifts. Monday night doesn’t come around often, but when you get your opportunity, you have to enjoy it.”

It’s the first time in franchise history the Broncos have opened the season with primetime games in back-to-back weeks.

But the Broncos are used to playing under the lights — 2012 marks the 21st consecutive season that Denver has played on Monday Night Football, extending the longest active streak in the NFL. It’s the second-longest such streak all-time.

“Monday night is a privilege to get to do it,” tight end Jacob Tamme said. “It’s a cool thing to be able to play in that type of atmosphere. To be able to open up Sunday night (and then play) Monday night, it’s a pretty cool thing. It doesn’t really change anything as far as your preparation and all that type of stuff, but it is neat to have an opportunity to go play that night atmosphere again.”

Primetime or not, linebacker Joe Mays said the most important thing will be to execute, “try to go out there and get a win.”

But to do it on Monday in front of a national audience and all of their peers would showcase to the rest of the league what the Broncos hope to be about this season.

“This is Monday Night Football,” wide receiver Brandon Stokley said. “It doesn’t get much bigger than that.”

Thanks but either way everyone is free to post no matter who likes it or not as long as you keep it within the blog administration moderation guidelines, just saying, my not posting much at all anymore is not related to not feeling welcome by anyone, I simply did not have fun with it as much as I used to, to time consuming and mentally draining me, three years of it and you move on kind of thing, let some others enjoy it… Bottom line, when you have a strong personality, some will hate it some will love it, that is just a gimme, I have lived with that all my life, on or off the blog.

On another note, and I don’t mean to suggest it as a premonition or an omen or anything like that, but just something interesting to me personally about this upcoming game at the Falcons:

The year we won our first SB in 1997 I attended the Bronco game at Atlanta which we won 29-21, it was the 5th game of that grand season and after the game I talked with Pat Bowlen who asked me what I thought of the team since we were 5-0 then and I told him I would tell him that at season end and he responded I hear you, it’s winning it all that counts, isn’t it? I mean how many years had it been that we smelled the grand prize only to lose the big one by bigger and wider margins… Well anyway I remember that time with extreme fondness and looking forward to the game this week with a little more enthusiasm and hope if that’s even possible. You guys enjoy, GO BRONCOS!

I honestly don’t think anyone could compare Cutler with Elway. I once saw Elway throw a pass from endzone to endzone in warmups. The talk was that his receivers had a cross on their chests from the football’s velocity. Cutler has a strong arm but not a strong character. I agree with the assessment of the spoiled rich kid. Elway was like the timex watch, he took a lickin and kept on tickin. He played with less than spectacular talent around him and still managed to win. I love Peyton but he has a way to go to be The best of all time.

Denver Broncos (1-0) at Atlanta Falcons (1-0)

“Shootouts are fun, especially when two quarterback automatons are competing. Drafted 10 years apart, Peyton Manning and Matt Ryan are as much alike as any two quarterbacks playing today — in terms of study, work habits and anal-retentiveness. And production, when Ryan’s on. If these teams had played Week 1, I might have picked a different outcome. But with one of the league’s best corners, Brent Grimes, lost to Atlanta for the season with an Achilles injury, I can’t see Denver being held down”.

I wonder if there are any parallels between Elway/Reeves and Peyton/Fox, when it comes to Peyton’s no huddle offense..

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Reeves was a running back, and as a head coach he basically ran the whole team, specially the O, completely different with Fox, he lets McCoy handle the O but we all know who truly runs the O now, Manning, and Elway has his back, so I don’t think there is any conparaison to be made between those two eras imo.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

    comparison, lol.

  10. OrangeTsunami says:

I realize it was a bit of a stretch, and I agree Fox lets McCoy run the Offense. I just hope they let Peyton run what he wants to, as I’ve never been a fan of McCoy’s play calling.. I’m still scratching my head since McCoy was pursued for a HC job.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Some of the reasons things are so much improved now other than the obvious:

    Elway has taken over Xanders

    Manning is taking over McCoy

    Not open to arguments, LMAO!

  12. OrangeTsunami says:

After seeing Clay Matthews and the Packers have their way last night on defense, I can’t help be reminded of the 2009 draft..

    Green Bay Packers:

    1st round / 9th overall / B.J. Raji
    1st round / 26th overall / Clay Matthews

    Denver Broncos:

    1st round / 12th overall / Knowshon Moreno
    1st round / 18th overall / Robert Ayers

Tough call on who made out better……. LOL!

  13. killerkod says:

I think McCoy has done a great job of adapting…….

I mean last season he had to adapt to having TT run the offense……….and we had some success there. And now this year he’s letting Manning do his thing……and not letting his ego get in the way. As long as it comes down to winning ball games, how can he argue? lol

  14. baylinorcrush says:

The obvious (2011 to 2012 major reasons for improvement):

    Del Rio

    Wolfe

    Porter

    Manning

    Clady back protecting blindside

Better receiving TEs Tamme and Dreessen

Ok, argue it all you want, LOL, I’m out though…

  15. killerkod says:

bay, I knew you couldn’t stay away all season when it kicked into gear with Manning! Glad you’re chiming in here and there………..

  16. OrangeTsunami says:

Don’t forget about Ty Warren finally getting healthy.. Oh, wait……. LOL!

  17. Royalbroncofan1 says:

And Von Miller minus the thumb cast……….lol!!!

  18. Royalbroncofan1 says:

And a WR who’s beginning to assert himself as a gamebreaker….. Demaryius Thomas !

  19. OrangeTsunami says:

Hey Royal. Demaryius is really coming into his own. Took a little while, but I think he’s finally growing into his frame. He looked really strong last week, and took a few hard shots and got right back up. I’m really excited about him!

  20. killerkod says:

Yah OT and rbf1, that was a nasty ju jitsu arm tackle TP put on him and he bounced right back up……….nice to see him play tough cause he really is a gamebreaker and is really only getting better now that he has a leader like Manning.

  21. OrangeTsunami says:

If you look at his TD closely, it looks as if he patiently waits for his blockers, before he goes full speed. Very impressive IMO.

  22. BRONCOSTUCKINKC says:

Hopefully the Defense can get Ryan down a little easier than BBen. If we can get good pressure on Ryan it should open up our secondary to make plays. If Ryan get time, just like Manning, he will find the open big play recievers Atlanta has. We have imerging talent all over the place with this Bronco’s squad on both sides of the ball. Our Free Agent acquisitions have been really good so far… It is a great time to be a Bronco fan!

  23. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Yeah….. DMT did a great job of waiting on Beadles before he kicked it into 5th gear!!

  24. CARAMELLOO says:

Yeahhhhhhh my dudes Bay and Royal back in the building!!
Bay you on the score predictions or what?

  25. RH709 says:

DaddyBronc: You mentioned the play where Moreno was overloaded on the left side (2 to 1). Here is what happened.
Manning called out who he thought was the mike (the fifth rusher). When Manning made that call towards a LB on the right side of the line, it shifted his coverage to play that direction. At the snap, the LB manning though was rushing then dropped into coverage. Instead, the guy who should have been covering Stokely in the slot on the left blitzed. So Clady slides right with the line to follow the protection call Manning made. The RightDE is Moreno’s responsibility (which he picked up well) and the other rusher is a play call mistake.

Stokely should have noticed and proceeded to a hot route in the Offensive left flat since no one was really covering him. Instead he proceeded on his initial route which put him in the center of a cover two.

With the blitz and no hot route, manning took the sack.

In reality, everyone did exactly what they were suppose to do. The steelers just disgiused their scheme well and we fell for it. The Steelers are known for being very good at this. Sometimes the other guy just deserves some credit.

Von Miller once had a Bear rug in his living room. It wasn’t dead… just afraid to move.

    x Papa Mojo, LMAO

Bay, enjoyed your insight this Morning. I fully agree on your 8:49 a.m post. We’ve discussed this before in detail a few years back. Even the crowds at Mile High games would boo Dan Reeves calls, total overkill on run, run, run, pass. That’s one of the many reason why Reeves eventually got the boot. You can’t handcuff John Elway.

  29. orangemnm says:

    Official Prediction

    Broncos 31 – Falcons 24

  30. strandoftds82 says:

Bay, I can`t argue with you if I agree. LOL

  31. DaddyBronc says:

Wow – 709 – you got Tevo??? I wanted to get to see that replayed but haven’t been able to find it. You wrote it out so well…I could smell the Beer, Hotdogs, and popcorn!!!! LOL

If you have the chance…or someone else if they have the capability….it would be cool to create a youtube segment of the Rahim Moore helmet to helmet issue. Especially the replays. The NFL showed full speed, then they showed slow motion from the same camera. The one I want to see again is what came next when they switched cameras and slow-mo’d from behind Moore.

  32. RH709 says:

The league now offers all-22 film to the public.

  33. DaddyBronc says:

I never realized how bad it was until Reeves was in ATL and Shanny was coach. But the difference was dramatic. I’m hoping that Elway caught Shanny’s ability to pick or facilitate running backs as well.

I’m wondering if ‘Bob’ is going to put the life back into Shanny. He was a great coach – I miss him!

Yep – I miss you Bay. You are welcome to insult and ‘create the heat’ at will. That was kind of like having a platter of filet mignon cut up under my nose, and only getting one small taste. LOL

  34. DaddyBronc says:

709 – what / where??? What is that??

  35. strandoftds82 says:

I`m hoping that Harris can come back from an ankle sprain for monday nights game. Harris is a solid CB.

  36. RH709 says:

I think DMT will be ok. If he finished the game, he should be alright. Let him take it easy the next few days.
I worry about not having Harris. I liked Tony Cater’s aggressiveness in the preseason but there is still too much of a drop off in skill level from Harris to Carter.

  37. DaddyBronc says:

For AB – again presented as speculation but speculation that has more merit from this author.

    http://bleacherreport.com/tb/d8sxY?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=denver-broncos

I think Sparano is still Tebow’s best chance to succeed. It will be interesting to see this career continue to unfold. I predict continued obstacles that continue to be overcome with dramatic, albeit narrow, margins of success.

  38. DaddyBronc says:

709 – I agree DMT is ok – TP better still watch himself – LOL (TP has long been one of my favorites…he may…he might…he may…have to go to the bottom of the list or something!!! Haha)

  39. DaddyBronc says:

    Gotta run…Have a great day!

  40. x Papa Mojo x says:

lol glad u liked it wolfedom

  41. DaddyBronc says:

That was good Mojo! Wishin’ I could get TP on offense for a second so we could get Miller after him too. LOL

  42. DenverCB says:

    Whos TP….??

  43. strandoftds82 says:

    Troy Polamalu.
