Through 11 games this season, those seven quarterbacks have all felt the wrath of an Elvis Dumervil sack.
Come Sunday, Dumervil hopes Matt Cassel will be the eighth signal caller he catches this season. But Cassel’s mobility out of the pocket presents a stiff test.
“He’s a tough guy to bring down,” Dumervil said. “He’s very athletic and I think he does a great job of making plays with his feet and seeing downfield. I think we’ve got our hands full and our work cut out for us this weekend. It’s going to be a great challenge though, so I’m looking forward to it.”
While Cassel has a knack for leaving defenders in their tracks, the Chiefs quarterback has been victimized by porous protection at times. Cassel has been sacked 35 times this season.
Dumervil noted that types like Cassel, who are adept at leaving the pocket, give defenders greater time and potential to make plays.
“If they’re athletic, they sort of give you a chance, an opportunity because they want to make plays, to get to them,” Dumervil said. “It has its pros and cons to it.”
Cassel’s athleticism will be countered by Dumervil’s unique approach to rushing. Dumervil enters the Week 13 battle in Kansas City with 14 sacks, which puts him two shy of Simon Fletcher’s 1992 Broncos franchise record of 16 takedowns.
Head Coach Josh McDaniels sees Dumervil’s record pace as a product of his style being far from ordinary.
“I think that most tackles and most linemen would agree,” McDaniels said. “His lack of height combined with his strength and power and the fact that he has real long arms for a shorter guy, it’s kind of a different combination. There are not many people that you block in this league that are like that.”
MORENO RECEIVES ANOTHER ROOKIE HONOR
For the third time this season, Knowshon Moreno has been named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week.
Moreno ran for 88 yards and his fourth rushing touchdown of the season in the Broncos’ 26-6 Thanksgiving night victory over the Giants. He won the same honor in back-to-back weeks earlier this season, after wins over the Cowboys and Patriots in Week 4 and Week 5, respectively.
INJURY UPDATE
There was one Friday change to the Broncos’ Week 13 Injury Report. After not participating in Thursday’s practice, Brian Dawkins (ankle) was a limited participant in Friday’s practice. He is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Kansas City.
On the Chiefs side, safety DaJuan Morgan (knee) went from not being listed on Thursday to a full participant on Friday. He is probable to play on Sunday.

Broncos @ Chiefs…..
What can I say about this matchup? On paper, the Broncos should destroy the Chiefs and retire them out to pasture on the Pine Bluffs Res. But we all know that the #s and stats deceive when the inner-division rivalries are on deck. Besides, I’m a terrible “stat man” anyways, baylin can attest to that fact….haha
The Steelers and the Redskins both beat Denver but, KC beat the Steelers and the Redskins……. Humm, Hard to make sense of the future by looking at the past? Better to just look for the biggest chink in their armor and thrust… I see Cassell as that chink.
Where the edge lies in this game is squarely on the arm of Matt Cassell. McD knows this guy too well, he could probably list Matts tendencies in his sleep. Everything that Cassel does on Sunday, McD will have an answer for. Cassell is probably the most vulnerable QB that Denver will face this year.
This should be the game where the Broncos get a lot of interceptions. Champ and company will have a field day with this QB. King Doom will break the Bronco sack record and the CHEFS will be lucky to shake and bake one chicken leg for 3 points.
The Bronc O will be able to run the ball, and run well! I doubt we’ll see any SpiderMarsh one handed web catches in this game but the Broncos should win handily. I will assume the team meeting and winning result is still fresh in the players psyche and we’ll see a similar performance in KC.
LETS SHOW THE CHEFS HOW TO SHAKE AND BAKE FOR REAL!!!!
BRONCOS 21
CHEFS 3
This just in. The Chicago Bears have just contacted the Denver Broncos and asked if they could give Cutler back and Denver can keep all of the trade selections that were included with the trade.
HAHAHAHA Just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Broncos 8-4
Hey guys, great job at voting Moreno rookie of the week for his 3rd week!! That’s awesome, I have to say I was really nervous of him not getting it this week due to Percy Harvin, bc Harvin played a GREAT game for the vikings!! Now Moreno is tied with Mark Sanchez with 3 wins for Rookie of the Week!!! Keep voting A LOT for him each week and he will surely take home rookie of the year!!!!!
GOOO MORENO AND GOOOO BRONCOS!!
@Orange_Crusher… spidermarsh one handed web catches??? LMAO!!
Thanks Ray,
I’m glad I could bring a smile and chuckle to a Bronco Brother.
Bronc On!!!
woo hoo!!! lol
NE one watch the McD video on NFL.com? Interesting…
BAYLIN——
broncos-17
chiefs-14
The main reason we won last year against the Chiefs was cuz of Peyton Hillis, only one of two broncos to get a 100 yd. rush game last year (michale pittman. gag me) SO I SAY LET HIM OUT
Let’s hope that the Broncos can break the December at Arrowhead jinx. So far Chiefs are 14-1 in December vs the Broncos.
Let’s bust the Chiefs in the mouth and show the league that the Broncos are STEPPING IT UP IN DECEMBER!!!
Hello Bronco Nation:
The Broncos are 1-16 in Kansas City in December. Time is ripe to change that trend! So this will be a game that we better win to get on a playoff run! We have had some extra time to prepare and have some momentum going from our win on turkey day. I would love to see Hillis be part of the game plan! But again will not count on it. I think we will get our fast start that we all have been hoping for but have not seen yet this season. Jumping out to a 14-0 lead would do well in at least quitting the Arrowhead fans. Then play Bronco Football ball control. Good clock eating drives and throw in some special teams plays and we will come away with a Win.
GO BRONCOS
FTR
Way to go KnoMo….another well deserved award. If we can get this for him, we should be able to get Brandon Marshall, Ryan Clady, DJ Williams, Matt Prater, and anyone else I am missing into the Pro Bowl.
I say we win this easily if we play our best ball and not under estimate….This truly has been a wasted season for Hillis….Even If he wasn’t the main back we should utilize him somehow even out of the FB position or as s short reciever….Just liek the chargers do with Hester…And Hillis is far more skilled in my book.
I guess there’s just no space for him in McDs playbook. I would rather see him success somewhere else than let him got to COMPLETE waste here (keyword being complete because we dont use him at all). But he also fumbled early in the season on punt return and in the redzone so he is kind in the doghouse….all season. see yall next week
BTW, my prediction is
Broncos: 27
Chiefs: 13
————————————————————————————
2 B’Marsh tds, 1 Moreno TD, 5 sacks (3 belonging to dumerville), 2 INT (Champ Bailey and Goodman)….A man can dream. cant he?
THE SEASON IS OURS FOR THE TAKING
GO BRONCOS!!!
ps: FTR, before someone else says it cuz i heard someone else get riled up over it….its Raider Nation and Broncos COUNTRY!!! Always has, always will be
I looked at some statistics, & i didn’t notice the ROYAL DOESN’T HAVE A SINGLE RECEIVING TD THIS YEAR!
Just to let all you Fathead fans out there know, they have now came out with a Moreno fathead and two Bailey fatheads (One in AFL jersey and on in regular!). The Moreno one is AWESOME and I will deff. be getting it soon!
Well marshall man, he had a chance on the deep ball agaisnt the skins and messed up…I see him getting one tho…..while big bmarsh is the best redzone target…..royals precise running and slot skills should be just as valuable…if he wasnt injured that stokely TD might have been his….hope he is ok…and Moreno with the wrist…they arent listed but still just hope they are ok….
Royal will definitely have one before this year is done…I see him as our major contributor against the colts. well at least he has 2 tds on special teams lol…while he is a deadly reciever I would rather him be a Kick Return game changer first and a deadly reciever second…his skills in the return game are undeniable and could improve with more game reps. We have alot of WR talent. with Gafney and speedy McKinley hasnt gotten his chance to shine yet but im sure he is improving in practice
Let’s take care of business swiftly and smack the Chiefs in the face en route to 8-4. GO BRONCOS!!!
Me and my brother were talking and the subject of starting fast came up. It seemed all too often last years team took the opening possession, marched down the field and scored a TD. Then not much else. A staple of Shannahans offensive attack, I presume. This years squad is the doppelganger of last years. I believe we have only scored on 2 opening possessions this year!
I bring this up because I believe the key to winning in December, in the land of BBQ , will be getting off to a fast start. And finishing. Do that and I see our 8th win! Doom will be feasting on a slab of Cassel ribs…lol.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!
i went and checked denver vs kc since 2001 and weve beat them in kc twice in december since 2001 look it up
OC, you’re too hard on yourself regarding the stats. LOL. It was just your love of TD coming through.
TRB, great to see you blogging here again, you must of gotten your access issues fixed up. I said the same thing about Hillis a couple weeks ago, as we don’t use him, I would rather see him playing somewhere else than rotting away here, the kid deserves better than that. If there is one negative I’ll take from McD out of this season, it’s not all the off season controversies, but the unfair treatment of Hillis.
I think you are all correct, it’s worthless arguing over the exact record, the fact is I remember watching all these December games in KC, and for the life of me, it was so bad so many times with horrible losses dancing in front of my eyes, that unless I look at the record books, I could’t tell you when we won there in December. Thank god, this is the last time this year I’ll have to say it, THIS IS MY MOST HATED STADIUM IN OUR DIVISION TO PLAY IN, not most hated team, no, I hate the Raiders and Chargers worse, but most hated stadium, definitely.
I don’t like to see Dawkins listed as questionable for this one, if he doesn’t play, all I can say is good thing they don’t have Gonzales anymore…. That could be the biggest missing factor in this one.
The keys to the game:
-Take care of Cassel running abilities, heck, use a spy on him if you have to.
-Get to Charles EARLY in every move he makes (O and ST), so he can’t shift into that track speed of his.
-Limit Chambers production with some tough hard bodies on him, he is big and tough, their version of Marshall, if you wish… not quite, but you get my point.
-And most important don’t get pin deep into our territory on the many punts we will force them into. I said that in the previous blog and it bears repeating, they have probably the best punter in the league, he will punt it long and deep, and use Charles track speed to get down there to make the tackles before you can get any return yards, so they pin you deep and the crowd we dislike so much goes real crazy the deeper we’re pinned, and it’s so darn loud, it becomes increasingly difficult to get out of the holes, and we punt it back to them and they win the field position battle…..well you get the picture. We must have a great effort on ST to give us the necessary blocking to open up the lanes that will give us the necessary yardage to get out of being pinned deep, then I will feel so much better, LOL.
G-O-O-O-O-O BRONCO-O-S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, in the keys to the game, I didn’t even mention what our O needs to do because against this D I think we should be able to do whatever we want, pass it or run it or even better, do both, because they are near the bottom of the cellar on D in team stats, 30th against the pass, 27th against the run.
“Raider Nation” …..humm? How about we change their handle to somthing more fitting like:
“Raider Nates”
“Raider Nausea”
“Raider Narcosis”
“Lost Tribe of LA”
“Orphans of Oakland”
Yes, I jest but let us never forget the Raiduh “commitment to excrement” and Jail cell motto “Just Grin BABY! Just Grin!”.
Aahh….The Raider Nation;
One nation under AL with incoherency and Felonies for all…..
I’m soo glad I live in BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!!!!
TheRoyalBeast and All that post here:
Thanks for the ps. I have addressed this before. I begin my posts with Bronco Nation for the very fact to get any Raider Fans riled. Been doing it here for quite some time. My hate runs deep for the raiders. But you are correct and I am tired of explaining it. So in honor of our new regime with McD(and me finally having to get out of the 90”s). LOL And to not confuse the younger bloggers I will no longer lead with it. Broncos Country it is and always will be. Go Broncos!!
FTR
Sorry to interupt the main train on KC. Enjoying the posts and driking my coffee. Orange_Crusher Lost Tribe of LA- Ha Loved it
Hey FTR…Bro it’s no scuff to me about the nation thing…lol
I just never pass up a chance to Rip on the Raiduhs…
We are Bronco Nation, Bronco Country, Bronco Continent, Bronco World and Bronco Universe!!! Heck Brother, We are Bronco McUSA!!!!! Woo Hoo…lol
Go Bronco Galaxy!!!…kdn
My personal fav….”Raider Nates”…look it up…haha
Right on Orange_Crusher
This week it’s KC Barbeque on the menu.
KC singing the Blues! Does Kansas City Chiefs belong to the Kansas side or the Missouri side? The City has a split personality.
FTR
Missouri.
would like to see denver take there fist round pick and get suh from nebraska a D tackle that changes every offense nearly 300 pds of pure freak he can dominate any o line
Aahh Yes… The Kansas City Queefs. The murmer heard around the hot tub…haha
Actually, I think they live on an island in the middle of the river surrounded by wagons and Horsemen. They are about to sign a peace treaty and surrender 18 points to the Cavalry on Sunday at 2:00pm.
So we have to show them!!-LOL Lame I know.
bobcat82, I guess I’m going to find out about suh tonight against the Longhorns.
Actually, I’m not sure why people would get upset with Bronco Nation. I don’t have a problem with it. I know, we’re on Broncos country and I’m proud of being a Broncos fan and a part of Bronco’s Country, but just because Raiders have a nation doesn’t mean that Bronco’s fans can’t use nation if they so desire. Just an opinion.
I think that the Broncos will win this game pretty handily if they just stay focused and they do their *(**((*()(((*()) jobs. LOL!
GGGGOOOOO BBRRROOOONNNNNCCCCCCOOOOOOOSSSSSSSS
Just got a text from Denver news saying Tim McKernan (“Barrel Man”) has died, according to Denver Post……
That sucks.
TheRoyalBeast:,.. Thank you for making the correction!
FTR.. I understand why you do it, but I think it is derogatory to the beloved Broncos.. Dont mean to upset any one, We are all Bronco fans.
Been a while since I’ve had time to blog. DOOM cant wait for you to break the franchise sack record..”feasting on a slab of Cassel ribs…”
LMAO. As for KM… ROY would be awsome! Just keep doing your thing and HOLD ON TO THAT BALL!!!!!
This is BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!
R.I.P. Barrel Man!!
I would love for the Broncos devote the rest of this season to his memory, and use this as motivation to win out the rest of the season!!!
This is BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!
See you in the next world, barrel man, glad I got to meet you in this one.
I’ll definitely remember tomorrow’s game as your game, and in your honor, here is to hoping for a win for the proper send off. Thanks for the memories from a fellow Bronco fan.
for any one going to the next home game please atlease one of you wear a barrel!!! that would be fantastic to see people supporting the memory of the barrel man!! i would if i had tickets..Unfortunatly i dont..=(
Thanks for the memories Barrel Man! You belong in the Broncos Ring of Fame!
I can’t see Denver going after Suh. I mean he’s a talented player, but he’s projected as the number 1 pick in the draft. Plus he’s going to command some big $$$, and we still have to re-sign DOOM, Marshall, and Scheff. But he would be an asset to our D.
I still like Gerhart.
And something tells me DOOM is going to be fired up on Sunday! I say he gets to Cassel at least three times tommorow.
But the weather is going to be a factor come game time. They’re calling for mixed rain and snow.
R.I.P to the barrel man….He’s very popular so I’m pretty sure it will be some type of memorial or something for him
Wildman
Anybody that has read my posts knows better! Your the fist with finding it “derogatory”!!
Tim McKernan will be missed. I say he be the first fan on the ring of fame.
FTR
Thanks for all the memories Barrel man! As a little one, I remember going to a game and as we were walking to the stadium I saw him and was amazed that he was only wearing that famous barrel. “But its cold out here. Why do I have to wear my coat and hat and gloves if that is all he is wearing” I said. Or something to that effect. It is still mentioned in family gatherings to this day! This ones for Tim. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!
While his fame and helpfulness is showing the Bronco fans devotion to their team is unquestioned, Barrel Man can not be a Ring of Famer member. Those of you who’ve been around as long as I have know much of the vastness of the Broncos fan base is due to the exceptional broadcasting skill of Bob Martin. But, Bob will never be a Ring of Fame member as much as he deserves it. Why? Per Jim Sacamano, the only ones elegible for Ring of Member consideration are those who have been employed by the Broncos in one capacity or another. Neither Bob Martin, nor Barrel Man were ever employed by the Denver Broncos. By the way, Bob is recognized for his exceptional role in the building the Denver Broncos fan base in the press area.
How about naming one of the gates into Mile High in memory of Tim? Jim?
r.i.p barrel man u truly showed everyone how to back ur team nomatter what thru the good and the bad go broncos
My first post ever. I have read all your posts for years. Hello Bronco Country.
This is working. I am sad to hear about the barrel man. I have never met the man myself, but I have seen him for years on the TV. It’s difficult because I live in LA. And I would like to change the topic back to my favorite team I love to hate the most. That is the San Diego Chargers. I believe they jinxed us when we played them in San Diego. And the game we played at home reversed that jinx. We will bring back our mojo. I hope we jinxed those losers called the Dolts. I hope they go on a losing streak that does not end. Anyone left here on this post? I just had to get that off my chest. I am surrounded by Bronco haters. But, I can take care of myself well. I love my Broncos for better or for worse.
Our bandwagon has gotten a lot lighter. I see the NFL network and nobody respects us. The only one who seems to be choosing the Broncos is Coach Martz. But, he also loves them stinking Dolts. And I also see Jamie Dukes and Jason La Canfora sold our beloved Broncos. They are such losers. Hey I need to get back to my other beloved team. I just wanted to post some things and I will come back later and read some remarks. I can’t wait till tomorrow to see my beloved Broncos spank the Chiefs. And I am hoping the Colts will stay undefeated until we spank them next week. Go Broncos!!!
BAYLIN I don’t know if you got my score ealier this week, 31-13 BRONCOS. It will be close until the 4th quarter then the D will get some TOs that get us 2 late scores. Oh by the way the movie Fargo takes place in Brainer MN,& Minneapolis MN. They met in a Fargo in the begining of the movieand it ends in my hometown Bismarck. AND WE DO NOT TALK LIKE THAT. I lived in Minn for 4+ years and they talk like that. There is a newer movie with the blonde chic from Jerry McGuire and Briget jones called “New in Town”that takes place in Minn and they talk like that.
