Miller, Thomas, Franklin Pick Up National Recognition

May 16th, 2012 - 4:42pm by Stuart Zaas

Von Miller received another honor on Wednesday, adding to the recognition he’s received following his 11.5 sack-season in 2011.

Former NFL scout and current NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah published his list of the top 10 players under the age of 25 today and included Miller, who is 23 years old.

“Miller didn’t waste any time making his presence felt on the Broncos defense,” Jeremiah wrote. “He posted 10.5 sacks in their first 11 games before suffering a broken right thumb. He finished his rookie season with 11.5 sacks and was honored as the Defensive Rookie of the Year. He is a very versatile defender. He excels as a pass rusher because of his suddenness off the ball and his ability to bend around the edge. He is also athletic enough to drop in zones or run with tight ends down the seam.”

The rest of the list, which does not include rookies who have yet to play in the NFL can be found below (in alphabetical order):

LB NaVorro Bowman, San Francisco
WR A.J. Green, Cincinnati
TE Rob Gronkowski, New England
RB LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia
QB Cam Newton, Carolina
DE Jason Pierre-Paul, New York Giants
C Maurkice Pouncey, Pittsburgh
DE Aldon Smith, San Francisco
QB Matthew Stafford, Detroit

Last Thursday, CBSSports.com Senior NFL Columnist Pete Prisco identified players he thinks are due for a breakout season in 2012. At the top of that list, he placed wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. Also included was tackle Orlando Franklin.

“Why not,” Prisco wrote. “Thomas has all the tools. He’s big. He’s fast. He’s strong. … With (Peyton) Manning, in a much more receiver-friendly offense, expect to see the end-of-year numbers for Thomas all season long in 2012. Aside from the addition of Manning, Thomas is healthy for the first time in his Denver career.”

Prisco also expects a big season from Franklin, who was one of just three offensive linemen on the list.

“He was good as a run blocker in Denver’s run-oriented offense,” Prisco wrote. “But I think he will be just as good in pass protection with the move to a more pass-friendly scheme.”

Another mystery Bronco is set to receive an award tonight as NFL Network unveils another 10 players from its top 100 list. The network has given the hint that it’ll be a defensive player that wasn’t on the list a year ago, so it’s possible that Miller picks up some more recognition tonight – or maybe Elvis Dumervil will join the club?

here we go with the blog posting coming at us 100 mph!! we’ll have 6 blogs with about 5 comments in each and then one with 948 comments cuz it’ll sit there for 6 days. funny how that works.

i really liked the ‘night with the coaches’ blog. i wish that had been one to stick for awhile. alot of good info to talk about on there. i really liked what was said by everyone. loving the malik jackson giving ayers some competition. a 7th roune pick challanging a #17 (i think) pick in the draft in his 3rd yr right away? says alot about ayers not living up to his draft spot. what a waste of picks those couple of years. we completely blew the picks we got for cutler. and we just recently fired xanders. oh boy.

looking like the bucs are gonna be much improved this year. morris had that place a mess. glad we didnt hire him. of course we didnt hire a whole lot better than they did that year….

i guess i’ll keep ol boy away all by myself tonight….

i’m kinda hoping knowshon will have a breakout year. we just simply may not be able to count on willis mcgahee all year at his age. if we could use mcgahee as a hardnosed runner to wear out the d and use knowshon as the primary back, letting hillman do his sproles thing in between, we would be near elite at the position. i sure thought knowshon would be better than he is. its frustrating actually.

I was watching the rookie free agents we signed.. and I was intrigued by this DE.. Jamie Blatnick, I think he will battle with Hunter for a spot, heck even Ayers.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDGLOejONNQ

  9. Broncosmex says:

He can play the run, and even lines up at DT at some plays, mainly rushing the passer!

  10. 350legend says:

Yess he deserves that by far! Now healthy he should be even better!!

  11. 350legend says:

Our D is a Dynasty in the making!!

  12. tlcat06 says:

I love that Dumervil is on the list. I wish that he had been higher, but he didn’t play the whole season. Next year he will rank higher!

  13. BeastFromEast92 says:

Miller will be on the list, top 50!

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

Man I can’t wait to see what our Defense does this year under JDR!!!gonna be fun to watch!

I seen on NFL Network where Faulk and Sapp picked the Broncos to win the AFC West this year, with our DEFENSE!!!!!

Freaking Blake takes the shot??? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???

  21. skillz_inc says:

love the lakers when they choke away games lol

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

Skillz didnt exactly choke they just were outplayed the last few minutes. Artest and Blake choked by Artest giving Blake the shot and Blake missing.

Kobe always takes that shot. Period!

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

I love what Wolfe says about how he became a non selfish players and happy for his teammates success.

  24. OrangeTsunami says:

Me too. I’ve heard him say that on multiple interviews. I just love his overall confidence in his abilities, and how he stresses giving maximum effort on each play. Love the last two minutes of the interview, how he says by the 4th quarter he feels like he’s unblockable..

  25. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT we got a great player!!!! No doubt about that!!!!

  26. SWBronco says:

I love this guy Wolfe, I just really hope he doesn’t let that anger ever control him. He seems to have a handle on it well, but his edge is that mean streak he’s developed. He seems like he’ll punch holes in interior lines for years to come though

  27. OrangeTsunami says:

Can’t wait to see how our defense shapes up through OTA’s and training camp, particularly the D-Line. I have a feeling Sealver Siliga might be a pleasant surprise for us this year..

  28. SWBronco says:

Broncosmex check out this play he made on Luck

    Bwahahahah!!!

that Iggy is a chatty little feller in the mornings, isn’t he?

  31. theBlogIgnitor says:

Morning BlogKiller………….just trying ignite the blog in the mornings!

Congrats to Doom……………I’m expecting an even bigger year from him this season. I don’t think he was totally at the top of his game and he still made #68. It must not have been easy to come back from being out a full year and also not having much of an off-season to get ready. I’m seeing him, miller and wolfe terrorizing opposing QB’s all season long! Here’s to seeing doom and miller in the top 20 for next season.

  32. theBlogIgnitor says:

I think miller will fall in the top 50-40 somewhere………………

  33. killerkod says:

    Morning Broncos Country!

It’s always a great day to be a Broncos fan!

Long weekend coming up for us here in Canada………….can’t wait! Taking the wife and baby girl and visiting my parents who are a 5 hour drive away. Hoping to get up to the cabin for a night too. Not as easy as it used to be with a 1 year old.

OT, your boy kreiger scored a nice tip-in but your blue shirts couldn’t stop the devils last night. Another spectacular save by marty with his scorpion king impression. Too bad seconds later that bad bounce had to go in. I see the two teams splitting games in jersey too. I see LA putting another nail in the yotes coffin tonight.

  34. killerkod says:

I’m trying to help you get the blog going blogignitor………….but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Looks like theblogkiller is getting the best of you! lol

  35. Bronco_Turtle says:

I think you are going about it the Wrong way! KK and BI

if you want to get people on the blog fired up you have to say something semi-controversial like (and this is only an example…)

‘More real men play WNBA Basketball than NHL Hockey’ or something to that affect

Have a good one Broncos Country! See you this evening

  36. louisianabroncofan says:

ya that was a great game swbronco. blatnick should get some playing time on a relatively weak d line. hopefully he and our other aquisitions make the d line a whole lot better.

  37. killerkod says:

    lol@turtle……………..

  38. killerkod says:

    dems are fightin’ words!

  39. alaskanbronco06 says:

Man I didnt know Rolando McClain is in trouble. But he looks to be pretty screwed IMO

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82927d5b/article/video-emerges-on-eve-of-rolando-mcclain-trial

  40. louisianabroncofan says:

    oops goes the raiders again!

  41. killerkod says:

I have a feeling Dennis Allen will find himself in way over his head coaching a team like the raiders. You gotta know Foxy wants to lay a serious hurting on them in the two games we’ll play this season. I predict RunDMC will injure his foot during the pre-season and miss a bunch of time.

  42. killerkod says:

man……….Lawrence Taylor is auctioning off his SB ring……..and it’s not even for charity, it’s for his own finances. He must be pretty bad off. How sad is that? Guys like him and OJ, who were on field mega-stars have found themselves in a hole in their post football life. I know the adjustment isn’t easy, but they have no one to blame but themselves.

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

Kod its very sad to see. With basically any football player. To see them make it so far then completely fail. Sad to see imo.

Also Dennis Allen is going to have a very hard time. They had to cut so many good players to get below the cap and had so few draft picks. Not to mention a RB who is a overrated “star” that cant stay healthy at all and a QB who isnt as good as people (Faiders fans) think. Then add the McClain trial and Hayward-Bey DUI and all their other issues. Oh and not to mention its the Faiders ;)

  44. OrangeTsunami says:

    What’s up y’all?

Here’s another “example” to get the blog going…

‘real men don’t cry when a player gets traded’

    :P

kod – gonna be a long series, no doubt about it… I love me some Chris Krieder!!! I may be going to one of the next games at MSG!

  45. killerkod says:

    lol@OT……..that’s too funny!

Isn’t Timmy supposed to be our starting QB entering training camp? hahaha

Extremely jealous that you’ll be at one of the games………………….I dunno what it is about MSG but on tv, it looks like the stands are like pitch black and the ice is so bright………unless it’s just my HDTV lol

  46. OrangeTsunami says:

If RunDMC makes it through training camp, you best believe that the Wolfeman is gonna stomp that foot out when we play them!!!

To be fair, the real LT (Lawrence Taylor), and OJ played before the explosion of salaries in the NFL. It was also the pre endorsement era, and the reason you see a lot of those guys working for networks, is b/c they played before the huge increase in salaries, and just missed that big pay day like we see today.. Granted, some are just idiots and would have spent all their money, no matter how much they earned, like Terrell Owens..

  47. killerkod says:

looks like the jags are the leading contender for the “hard knocks” show………..lol Now that’s what’s called desperation! I’d rather watch paint dry. While I’d love to see an inside look at our broncos, I’m glad the distraction isn’t there.

  48. killerkod says:

Well OT………..it’s not even just the money thing………..it’s the horrible life decisions they’ve made. Just makes you shake your head.

  49. OrangeTsunami says:

MSG is an older arena, but recently got another round of upgrades. I don’t have tickets yet, I’d say it’s about 50/50 at this point, but I’ll take those odds! It’s sad really, tickets are so expensive, especially in the playoffs, that the true die hard Rangers fans are getting pushed out for the casual NY “fan” with deep pockets.. The result is the crowd ends up being unintelligent as to what is going on during the game, showing up late, leaving early if they’re down, etc.. Guess it’s just the nature of the beast…

I’m not defending LT or OJ, as they’ve made unbelievably stupid decisions, but I do feel bad for the ‘good guy’, who just happen to play right before the massive contracts and endorsement deals the players get today. Like I said, it’s the reason there are so many ex players in the booth across every sport, most of them need the money, and some are making more now than when they played the sport..
