INDIANAPOLIS — Linebacker Von Miller earned the Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and the Broncos were honored with the 2011 GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year for their come-from-behind victory over Chicago in Week 14, the league announced on Saturday. The awards were given at the inaugural NFL Honors awards show in Indianapolis.
“I was extremely surprised,” Miller said of winning defensive rookie of the year. “(49ers LB) Aldon Smith had a great season. All the defensive rookie candidates had great seasons — (Bills DL) Marcel Dareus, (Cardinals CB) Patrick Peterson — I was just honored to be nominated. To get the award is extremely humbling.”
Miller tied a franchise record by totaling 11.5 sacks during his rookie campaign. That figure ranked second among rookies and tied for ninth overall in the league. In 15 regular-season games (15 starts), he totaled 64 tackles (50 solo), 19 tackles for a loss, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles. Additionally, he was one of just six NFL players this season to record at least a half sack in 10 or more games.
“It feels great,” said Miller, who credited Linebackers Coach Richard Smith with pushing him to such success throughout the season. “Hats off to my organization and teammates.”
Along with his Defensive Rookie of the Year honor, Miller was named a second-team All-Pro selection by the AP in addition to representing the AFC as a starter for the 2012 Pro Bowl. He is the second player in Broncos history (LB Mike Croel, 1991) to be named as the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Quarterback Tim Tebow’s Week 14 fourth-quarter and overtime performance was selected as the 2011 GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year via fan vote on NFL.com. The award is given to the best moment or play of the year that represents determination and perseverance.
In the comeback victory, Tebow rallied the Broncos from a 10-0 deficit with just over two minutes remaining by leading scoring drives of 63 and 39 yards to force overtime. Kicker Matt Prater followed up his 59-yard field goal at the end of regulation with a 51-yard game winner in the extra session to complete Denver’s improbable comeback.
Each week the NFL selected three nominees for the GMC Never Say Never moment of the week in which the fans voted for the winner on www.NFL.com. Over the course of the season, Tebow won the weekly award five times to lead all NFL players.

Yeah, Weatherman, the pro-bowl has mostly just turned into a fun trip to Hawaii for the players. I personally haven’t taken it seriously since they started playing it before the Super Bowl, but I always enjoy watching the fun surrounding it.
The thing is though, and I’m sure you already know this, some of the players are free agents and don’t want to risk getting hurt in a mostly meaningless game, and/or ruining/hurting their careers. That’s mainly why it’s played the way it is, but Goodell sounds like he’s going to be pursuing a different direction with it. Will sort of be interesting to see what he does, not that it matters that much.
OT, I think maybe Broncos fans were more sensitive to Suggs’ remarks last night because of his past remarks about Tebow praying, and this the Ravens didn’t need God on their sidelines. I know I was, and was surprised that he started his acceptance speech off that way.
At any rate, we Broncos fans, and maybe Tebow, are probably the only ones who took exception to it. But, I know how Tebow is, and he won’t say one unkind word about it. However, just like he lowered his shoulder into Revis in the Jet’s game, no doubt he’ll make another “business decision” just like it, when he faces Suggs next year in Baltimore. That’s Tebow ball.
Congrats to Miller and Tebow for their awards. I`m especially proud of Von Miller for his contributions in his rookie year.
*that the Ravens……
I didn`t watch the awards last night and am just now finding out what happened. Talk about pathetic. I said from the get go when Suggs was making fun of Timmy awhile back that he`s a loser and a vile person. He`ll get whats coming to him. You reap what you sow.
Suggs is a cruel person.
It’s great to have some of our young players winning awards so early in their careers. With a full off season to prepare I’m optomistic that we will improve greatly again this coming season. We are very lucky to have JDR aboard, I was somewhat comforted that in his interview he was so glad to be here and wanting to put down some roots. Stability at the top coaching positions will help our young players.
Hard to talk about the draft until free agency gets underway and we see what players will be heading our way next season. We’ve got some very good people in the front office , it will be fun to see what they accomplish.
Before you know it, April will roll around and the excitement of the draft.
Don’t know if I’ll watch the game today, I don’t really follow any team but the Broncos, I try but I’ve been a Bronco fan for so long it’s hard to root for anyone else. I still enjoy a good football game but it just isn’t the same. Go Broncos!
*next season in Baltimore…..
You guys probably knew what I meant, but just to clarify…….
Hello Shaz, good luck with the move. And thanks for the info on the awards. I didn`t see it.
And the games in Baltimore. Their getting long in the tooth on defense too. HaHa!!
imready, you’re right that watching other teams play isn’t as enjoyable as watching the Broncos, but some of us (me) love football at any level, and I can’t wait to watch the game today.
Ordinarily, I’d be pulling for the Patriots, since they’re an AFC team, but I’d kinda like to see Eli get another ring this year. However, it really doesn’t matter that much to me who wins, but it will be fun to watch both teams battle it out. Later.
Picture this; Wouldn`t it be something, that when we go to Baltimore this coming season, that before or after the game, Tim Tebow walks up to Terrel Suggs and looks into his eyes and says (I love you Terrell and Jesus loves you unconditionally). Love and forgiveness is a great witness. Love is the greatest weapon. I hope this game is MNF.
I choose to forgive Suggs. I was angry at him earlier but now I`ve forgiven him. It`s the righteous thing to do.
People will stop poking fun at Tebow after he wins a Super Bowl – let’s get ‘er done!
Dont take it personally folks, even Eli has been disrespected here in NY quite often really.. Remember, that the Giants traded Philip Rivers and a pick which turned into Shawne Merriman for Eli Manning.. Only until he won his first SUper Bowl was he given a pass and even last year and earlier this year he was questioned.. Part of the territory at that position
suggs has a big mouth. cant let a jerk like that bother you. bout a half hour to go for the big game. do not want the pats to win. at all. i do think they will tho. i see it about a 27-17 pats win but who knows.
i just hope my super bowl pools win. i put a bunch on money in pools instead of betting on the game. I even got in one that is 100 bucks a square and pays $10,000 final score. holy heck i hope i win that one. the others range from $5-!00 a square. got some pretty decent #’s overall. too many 2′s though. i hate getting 2′s in a pool. 2′s and 8′s suck.
gmoney crickets guy won last night, and i was glad to see it. condit fought a smart fight, and diaz just couldn’t get him cornered long enough to throw his trademark punches in bunches. love the UFC. surely theres plenty of people here on the blog that do too.
glad to hear shaztah got moved in. i HATE moving. HATE IT. oh well lets get to some football people, its the almost ultimate game (broncos being in it makes it ultimate) and i cant wait to see this….
Don’t really care who wins today just hope the games is played fairly and the officials actually call some holding on the NFL’ s favorite son NE and the NFL’ favorite QB gets knocked on his butt a few times.
Over/under of 54? LOL.
Defense wins championships although NE d played okay NY played better
Congrats to NY Giants.
Well tonight just goes to show you…it doesn’t matter how good a passer your quarterback is if you don’t have receivers that catch the football. The Patriots just lost, with the best passer in the league, for the same reason we weren’t in the Superbowl. It was really sad to watch the Patriots beat themselves like that. The first thing the Broncos need is a receiving core.
ha. love it. pats lose and brady couldnt get it done. congrats to the giants. eli deserves it. now it is officially the off season.
Even though I predicted the Pats to win, I’m glad the Giants pulled it off. Eli(te) just one upped his older brother. I imagine that is a personal accomplishment that every little brother dreams of….
I can’t help but think, McD is just bad luck…lol
Tom wasn’t so Terrific today. Maybe some of it was on the WR core, but just how much of that was because of the pass rush????
That’s what we need. More than a WR corp. Doom & Von, halfway there. I’ll bet ElFoXaRio add to our Dline with that 25th pick….
Eli(te)-30-40??? C’mon man. That’s just ridiculous. Guess that bad NE defense showed up. Lol…
I didn’t realize Tom Coughlin at the age of 65, became the oldest coach to win a superbowl…wonder if he’ll consider going out in top? Congrats to him…
6 months is a long time to wait for some action…
Broncos Country Strong 2012!
Defense wins championships! I think Brady got pretty flustered with the Giants defensive front. He’s a great QB but he can be rattled. I think those passes getting knocked down really through him off his game. I cranked up the tunes for the second half and did away with the comentary. So I watched the game, I just didn’t listen to it. When does free agency start? Go Broncos!
So, the Superbowl turned out about like it should have…
Score one for John Elway in the GOAT debate! Thanks Eli or E2 as I will now refer to him (Elite Eli)…
I set the Over/Under at 49 and had the Giants on top so in the Gambling world that’s what is known as Winner Winner Chicken Dinner…
I will post the official Prediction results tomorrow (congrats since1972), and for the Record, this contest is more of an Honest scale of a person’s understanding of the game than our seasonal contest because some of us faithful fans will never pick our team to lose…
Also, for the Record… only 5 bloggers would have made money placing a bet in Vegas on the official lines…
Those of us that would have taken the Under and the moneyline on the Giants would have had a payday of about 3:30 to 1 or better… WHABAM
BRONCOS 2012!!!! BRING ON THE BEEF!!!!!
how much did people win on being 2-0 vegas got killed on that
Imready… Free Agency Starts the 12th of March this year… CAN’T WAIT!!!
Tom Brady will have nightmares of Justin Tuck for the rest of his life… he is like Kryptonite to Super Brady and I LOVE IT!!!
‘ElFoxaRio’ that’s GREAT sndvl… GREAT!

Hella lame.
SB was basically a replay of the 2007 one. Very disappointing.
I wish we had a Dline like the Giants’.
I’ll happily sign the “Bring on the Beef” Petition Turtle!!!
This is one of the main reasons that I joined this blog, I can no longer sit idle while we ignore our front 7.. We need athletic, and DISRUPTIVE players on D…
The Giants dominate front 7 is no mistake, just look at their draft history.. Even last year they took Marvin Austin (DT) in the second round.. Of course, Austin was out for the year, which is my point, you have to be committed to the front 7 EACH year… Because injuries are part of the game… Meanwhile, the Broncos have not drafted a DT in years………
Take a look at 2010.. The Giants went DT, then DE with their first two draft picks… There is no coincidence that the Giants have a crazy pass rush… It’s directly related to their draft priorities, it as clear as day….
I REALLY hope John Fox, having roots to the Giants, brings a new draft culture to the Denver Broncos!!!

You have GOT to be kidding me!!!
Josh McDaniels, NFL’s worst O-coordinator this season, could get Super Bowl ring today
By Mike Klis
INDIANAPOLIS — Let’s review this one more time so I can understand.
Josh McDaniels, the most reviled head coach in Broncos history, becomes the St. Louis Rams’ offensive coordinator. He finishes the season with the Rams, who average an NFL-worst 12.1 points per game while McDaniels turns Sam Bradford, the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2010, into the 30th ranked passer.
And today, McDaniels may well be rewarded for that horrific coaching season by getting a Super Bowl ring?
In times likes these, I need to try real hard to soften the heart.
Well guys, I tried to post an article by Kils about McDaniels maybe receiving a Super Bowl Ring today, but it is being moderated for some reason. Maybe if the moderators would tell us what some of the changes are to the blog posting, then they would not have to do so much moderationn of evrybody.
Woohoo first time ever won a pick contest.thanks for putting it together Turtle. Now do you suppose I can convince Bay to forward some points to next years pick contest?
Congrats to you since1972. Great job on the pick. May you reign a full year as the sb pick king!
I got moderated for the first time yesterday and thought, Really?! I didn`t say anything out of the ordinary. Trippy!
Turtle, your wild dude! So you get 5 lashes with a wet nuddle. LOL
Hear, Hear! I second that! Bring on the beef!

1972, good job, congrats!!
New blog. Ha, I spelled noodles wrong. LOL
Regardless of how either Defense played (other than the critical mistake of having 12 men on the field that cost them a turnover), without the DROPPED passes, that were perfectly thrown and hit BOTH hands, by Welks and Hernandez, the Patriots win the game. Brady delivered as usual. His receivers, unfortunately, did not.
hey…i guess bradys witches dident come through for him this time.maybe he should think about raising there pay.four eyeballs instead of three..lol. well i would like to say im feel sorry for him, but of course id be lying. karma is a —–, thats what he gets for playing with fire….. and as for gizzele.or gizz for short..lol..its sad that brady let his five dollar wife do the talking..what a putz..
You people make my day. Just sayin’! Go Broncos!
His five dollar wife? She’s makes more and is worth more than him. Furthermore, she didn’t say anything at all that wasn’t the truth.
What and when did “GMC Never Say Never Moment ” become more than a weekly ‘Studs and Duds’?
Really working the NFL golden boy to death.
