After suffering a fractured fourth metacarpal in the team’s Week 7 win against Miami, Willis McGahee is hopeful he can return to action sooner than later.
“It’s doing good, no complaints right about now,” McGahee said of his hand.
In the locker room Monday, he explained how the injury happened.
“It got caught up in the facemask of the DB when we were playing against Miami, and as you can see, I couldn’t get it out because he was behind me,” McGahee said. “When I was trying to get it out, I heard it pop, and then I just had to leave it there until it freed up on its own.”
McGahee said he got fined for the play, which drew a penalty for a facemask.
He plans to appeal the fine.
“Look, I paid the price for it,” he said. “I got an injury on my hand. I had to have surgery. I’m taking it to appeals court now, but it looked like I was really holding onto his facemask all the way down, which I really wasn’t.”
McGahee said he hasn’t held a football since the injury, and he’s taking it day-by-day to see when he will be ready to return to game action.
Head Coach John Fox said it’s still unclear whether McGahee will be back for Sunday’s rematch in Oakland.
“I thought he had a chance (to play) last week, but because of surgery — that speeds up the healing of a broken bone, because it’s artificial healing — you do have an incision, and there is risk of infection and those types of things,” he said. “We feel better about that this week, and he’ll be day-to-day.”
In the mean time, McGahee was disappointed not to have been on the field helping his teammates in Sunday’s loss.
“I missed them,” he said. “We had a rough time this game. Hopefully we can’t turn things around going against Oakland.”

Speedy return McGahee,we need you man!!!!!!!
New blog right as I posted on the last one, and that one is worth reposting, at least to me, so bear with it, haha:
I think a lot of Bronco fans are trying to not want to face the fact that there is a growing dissenssion among the team about Tebow starting. The WRs were first to openly saying they didn’t like the direction Fox was going and Lloyd got shipped out for close to nothing, then Royal is complaining about not being utilized enough, Decker same thing, unhappy reports between them and Tebow on the field at times, and now it’s spreading, Bailey playing uninspired like an unhappy camper, the O line interestingly getting worse under Tebow when they were getting better each week with Orton, all that adds up to trouble, and don’t get me wrong starting Tebow was the only thing to do since Orton is not the solution long term, always said we just have to find out what we need to do in next year draft for QB if anything, but all that might come at a very expensive price for the coaching staff, trying to get a team to come together when only half of their heart is in it, the intensity is dying down for the last two games other than that 5 minute spurt in Miami, you can feel it, it’s unmistakable and this might end up being the thing that unravels this team for the rest of the season, just like last year when the team quit on McD, there is an uneasy feeling that this tream has lost some of it’s earlier spunk and could fold like a picnic table before Thanksgiving dinner can be served. I’m certainly glad I don’t have any of this coaching staff job, what a dysfunctional mess they are dealing with and a lot of it self made, like trading Orton then making him the starter, looking back that was the beginning of bad things to come. But maybe like the optimists are all saying, everything will be fine and dandy…. not so many of those anymore though, the orange kool-aid well is quickly drying up and for good reasons in my opinion.
Man…. Orton has really got to stop giving Tebow pointers……LOL haha
Watching this team play football is like watching a three stooges movie… Maybe if I watch it in black and white to old-time music it will be even funnier…lol
That play where Dawk and Goodie let the guy run right past them and into the end zone and just stand there waiting for the TD bomb to arrive was excruciatingly, hilariously ignoramus.. That was classic three stooge Bronco football right there…
I think it would be hard to script that kind of slapstick ineptitude from two accomplished veterans like that.
Moreno at the line of scrimmage is like watching a river dancer in concert.. His feet move but he doesn’t go anywhere…
And then, yes, Tebow… ahh my choice for QB, he looked like Brian Griese on steroids after drinking fifty 5-hour energies… It wasn’t pretty…
Our O-line didn’t help much either, they were like a bunch of turnstiles at a NYC train station……
This team is crumbling apart like cornbread when it should be sticking together like stuffing….
I’m afraid even the great John Elway can’t put this humpty dumpty Halloween trick team back together again…. There is no treat… I feel like the Lions came in and toilet papered or front yard and then left cat poop on the door step……
It’s going to take years to get back to contention…
Happy Halloween!!

As fans, I think right now we should learn from history.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENiQXQwG53M
If the fan culture in Denver was the same then as it is now …… Who knows. But it would have been unfair (and, frankly, disastrous to the franchise) if the front office and the fans had judged Elway’s chances to be an elite QB in the league in that one game against a very strong team, then Elway was just a rookie, had not yet developed that rapport with his team, and the roster at the time was mediocre at best.
I think we all need to follow Coop’s advice and be patient.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Just talking for bloggers in general here because I was never fooled with McD, from the early part of the season last year I was saying he was losing the locker room only to be discredited to no end. Not saying it’s fully happening yet this year and that we are at a point of no return like last year, but a seed has been planted and we have just entered dangerous time, and going to the Raiders Sunday too of all things…
1) Can’t beleive that as far off as my guess was that I took 2nd in the contest. Guess dumb luck beats skill any day.
2) To all Bronco fans who became fans after 1977:
Welcome to the 1960′s Broncos. We stunk then and we stink now.
But, no matter how bad the Broncos were then and are this season, they had one thing in common that makes me proud to be a Bronco fan, they aren’t going through the motions. They are doing the best they can and are building the camaradre and cohesion that will get them better as the year progresses. The next 5 games are going to be hard on all but the true Bronco fan as 4 of the next 5 games are on the road. Going 0-5 is certainly a possibility. I hope and pray that it will be otherwise, but going 0-5 as long as they are doing their best will keep me bleeding Orange!
Guess I’ll go ahead and make my prediction for the raiders game now.
17-23 broncos.
Feels like I am going on a very long and fragile limb there, but really, that should be a fairly conservative prediction I think.
I just can’t bring myself to predict a raiders victory, and with their QB1 on IR, and CP probably over the hill and starting in an unfamiliar offense, their points should be low. I mean, the Chiefs shut them out, and the chiefs ain’t exactly the packers or the lions.
23 points is pretty close to – four points above – our season average. So, hopefully all that pans out.
As fans we really need to follow the same 20 game rule the professionals do. Orton had about 33 starts as a Bronco (and about about that many again as a starter for the bears beforehand). We all know he ain’t it.
Tebow has had 6 starts in this league. Not even god knows yet whether Tebow can hack it in this league. (sorry for the religious joke. Hope it offends no one.)
The team was better with Orton but that amounts to little. The difference between Elway and tebow is Elway was the #1 pick and everyone knew he would be good. Tebow went 25th and should have been a 4th round pick at best he is a project
OMG, if you watched my first link, watch the second part too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-ZjZyMSudw&feature=related
The idea that Steve Deberg would come in for Elway was even tossed around in that game. Steve Deberg?
alexanserg……they were playing against a Bears team that would beat the Pats 46-10 in the SB two years later!!!!!!!!
Beast Nooooo lol now if the lions win the superbowl in 2 years Tebowites will have one more excuse noooooooooooo lol
I am not talking about expectations or draft position. Who cares? Tom Brady was a 6th round pick that no one expected anything from.
I am talking about actual game film. And as far as actual history goes, Elway probably looked worse in his rookie year in the nfl then Tebow ever has.
All that means is that we as fans have to be patient and let it all run its course. No conclusions can be made after 4 starts. Even Jamarcus hambone Russel got a few seasons to show his mettle.
Even Ryan Leaf got 9 starts, and … “Leaf had a bad relationship with the media and his teammates, whom he tended to blame for his poor play.[8] In one locker room incident during Leaf’s rookie year, he was caught on camera screaming at San Diego Union Tribune reporter Jay Posner, saying “Knock it off!” and then Leaf had to be physically restrained by teammate Junior Seau.” -wikepedia.
Bay is talking about some subtle Team Cohesion. Ryan leaf was had to be physically restrained by his teamates, yet he still got nine starts. In that time he threw something like 2 TD and 15 ints.
Tebow has already proven far more than either of those guys ever did, and yet we fans are ready to lynch him after only 6 starts under two different HCs (one of them only and interim coach).
We all really need to follow Coop’s advice and be patient.
We suck period!!!!!!!
BFE92, What? And the lions are powder puffs? They are stacked with talent, and came out to play harder against us then at any time this year. They had one didn’t commit a single penalty till the 4th quarter.
They look like favorites to reach the SB this year, if not next.
Typos
sorry
One day I will learn and simplify my posts to have more impact, like tav did with just three words, LMAO!
Elway went to the playoffs 4 out of the first 5 years as a pro. Rookie in 83 Super Bowl in 86. Can’t compare the two.
When you only use three words, it is very important to use lots of exclamation marks.
why does anyone try and compare elway with tebow? Elway was a number one pick, tebow should of been 4th or 5th round. Elways mechanics were flaulus theirs nothing to compare with, we as bronco fans seen the last too games, their was more luck in miami than anything, how often does an onside kick even work. Tebow has been playing like garbage, its not fair to the other players that are trying to win. The only reason they made the change was because of us the fans whining about Orton that really isnt all that bad now rt. Tebow is not the future we already know this, I like him and I was rooting for him but I dont want to loose the locker room because we the fans would rather loose 44-10 with tebow opposed to Orton giving us a better chance. What sucks the most is now we get to see Quinn pleeeeeez not Quinn. We have a quarter back in Weber put this kid in and lets see him. Im with bay a seed has been planted and its not good for the team, another off season with changes Mcoy has to go and im not really sure if football hasnt passed Fox bye this offense is stagnit at best.
I.E., Be patient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or,
Let Tebow play!!!!!!
MT2, Did you watch those links. Elway looks amazingly bad. Throwing ducks, badly missing recievers, taking bad sacks, not seeing the defense, etc. etc. etc.
At the same point in their respective careers, Tebow actually looks a lot better in the NFL.
Now of course, Elway had 17 years to prove himself. And he proved himself to be one of the greatest ever.
My only point is, Tebow deserves more than 6 games on a bad team with a bad coach before he is deemed to be anything at the NFL level.
Tavs got the right idea … u can write long books all u want … but sometimes … most of it can be summed up in a few words. TRB
Miller you repeated what I said lol glad we are on the same page!
MM2
Honestly Orton doesn’t give us a better chance to win … he was 1-4 this season … not even counting the other years. TT is 1 and 1 … team sucks like tav said.
And really… now we are going to weber? the guy passed like 3 times all preseason … and the one that completed was a great effort by riley and he took it to the house. Like the kid but lets be real.
Orton is not the guy. Quinn is not the guy. and tebow might not be the guy. No point going backwards. Move forward … if after this season (not every game) they decide it aint TT … then its someone else not on this roster.
TRB
And about the 20 game rule, LMAO you would rather throw away a hole nother season on top of this one, we wouldnt have anyone wanting to play for us. Need to open our eyes people, a 2 step drop wont even work for tebow, he cant release fast enough that will never change ever.
BTW, if not for Terrel Davis, Elway would be a little bit of a joke right now. He certainly would not be revered as the great QB who went out as the two time Champ.
In the mid 90′s there was a joke: “Why couldn’t Elway go home after the SB? Someone painted a goal line in front of his house.”
It took having a 2k rusher, and a generally stacked team, with a brilliant offensive coach who knew how to best use his Offensive roster.
But now we want to judge rookie QBs with crappy support on a young team with a brand new HC, a generally disrespected OC/GM, all based on a single game?
It is absurd.
rt on lax, look i was wanting a change, but it dont take a bomar to know when we were wrong about tebow LOL. I watched weber at minnesota that kid was a very good qb, im very surprised no one has signed him off PS.
MT2 you would have decided not to “throw away” a few games giving Elway a chance to develop. As a result, you would have thrown away a franchise.
You would probably throw away Romo if you had the say for the Cowboys. You would have thrown away Alex Smith several years ago, but he has the 49ers on route to a playoff birth right now.
Terrell gave the run game we needed but dont ever take away what Elway did without the run game and dan reeves holding him back. How many super bowls did elway get us too, even if we didnt win thats just wrong that man deserves respect bro.
Yeah, but he had a few season to grow before he could do that.
You cant compare Tebow to any of the qbs your talking about, even those qbs are a hundred times better.
Im not going to argue that point with you, but the only thing john needed was for the game to slow down for him, everything else was good.
Don;t get me wrong. I am not a Tebow Homer. I loved Plummer. He got us to an afc championship game. I have pretty much been against every QB change we have made since Elway retired (with the sole exception of Benching Orton, and I didn’t give up on Orton untill the KC rematch last year).
But we will never again rise above mediocrity (unless we draft a peyton manning) if we keep expecting our QBs to play like Elway did at his peak after they have had only a few games to show their worth.
Thats cool bro I actually agree on that, and myself really liked plummer have his jersy. Actually went to denver to watch them beat kasas city that same yr. But again they wanted to ship him to Miami whats with us and miami LOL
Patience and maturity are needed – Bronco fans…
Tebow is fine.
The Broncos are only missing a few players to become solid.
The Broncos need a few great playmakers to go along with Tebow to make a playoff run. Broncos are fine.
We need a F. Gore. We shouldn’t have let go of Lloyd. We need an exception receiver. We need a couple of linemen on offense and defense.
I haven’t liked anyone since Elway…but I like Tebow.
The way I see it coach fox and Elway are giving the fans what they want and that is Tim. Also they are seeing how strong the team is as a whole. We have not been to they playoff since 2005. We have the weapons. We just need a purpose. The QB makes it all worth it. Anyone agree?
” I watched weber at minnesota that kid was a very good qb, im very surprised no one has signed him off PS.”
The irony of this comment Miller just blows me away, basically you are saying that we should promote Weber because of his college play, yet demote Tebow disregarding the fact that he was arguably the best QB on collegiate level ever. Yet you are judging Weber because he played well during college.
Fact of the matter is Tebow is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken Sh#$, and anyone with a right mind should know this! The reason that Tebows job is even in question right now is because the fact that he is indeed Tim Tebow. I never saw Jamarcus Russel get this much heat when he only completed 3 passes in a game for basically his first two starts.. Let this kid develop! I know for a fact that when you (Tim Tebow) want something bad enough, you will do whatever it takes to get there and physically and mentally improve to get the job done, and that its just a matter of time.
Is there any question that this guy wants it, hell no. He wants it worse than anybody in this league and we all now he will do whatever it takes to get there. All Jamarcus did was put it on everyone elses shoulders, Tebow is taking full blast for this loss and is going to continue to bust his ass day in and day out until he proves this franchise that he can get the job done, and if he does not. Then he will surely be cut well before he shows any sign of giving up!
I will stand behind Tebow and continue to pray for this Warrior as long as he is in this league. Anyone who puts God first is bound for greatness! (hope i didnt offend anyone!)
BoB15
I agree with you BoB, but the franchise has been spinning the wheels for the last 6 years. I think there is a sense urgency to get the club going and they might not want to wait for Tim to get there as a starter maybe backup.
The thing is jfree going for a new qb would just keep our wheels spinning longer, like stated previously this staff expects Tebow the play like the Elite right out the gates..everyone knows its a position that takes time to develop in. Orton has had the longest chance and he hasnt done anything exept put up numbers, but still put a L in the W column. If we dont stop now and say “hey we may have something in this kid, lets give him some time and see what we got”. Because if we dont we will be jogging in place for years to come…Do you guys really think that Luck will play SB football right out the gates?? No way, anyone who thinks this is an ignorant who knows nothing about this league..Please EFX, i beg you, give this kid time. Let him play his game and i can almost assure you that there will be a different tone in these blogs for years to come..if we get rid of Tebow i get a feeling that he will be coming back to bit us right in the ass!
Why does anyone want anybody but Tebow in? What does that get us? A few more wins? For what? This is his test, play the rest of the season and see if there is any glimmer of hope otherwise draft a QB.. End of story..
jsizzla- thank you for summing up my long drawn out heartfelt story book lol…very well said!
As far as I know, the only QB (or any player at any other position for that matter) that seems to have been the sole difference between their team being at the dregs of the league or a perennial 10+ win playoff team and superbowl favorite was Peyton Manning.
I was never a Colts fan (hate ‘em) or a P. Manning fan (hate ‘im, with a tinge of begrudging respect – as a broncos fan I have been at the losing end of his greatness, particularly between 2002-2005).
But, if wins are the most important stat, here are the most important stats:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/clt/
3-13 the year before they drafted him, and virtually winless in games he has missed since they drafted him. 0-8 this year after going 10-6 last year and as far as I know they only difference is that peyton is out.
Other than his rookie year his worst year was 6-10 in 2001. Outside those, he averaged maybe 4 losses a year.
Yet even peyton went 3-13 in his rookie year, throwing for only 56 percent completions 26 tds and 28 interceptions.
The current Broncos fan base would have thrown even Peyton Manning to the wolves.
Look I like tebow open your darn eyes guys, this guy cant even get a first down. Weber is way better, just because tebows heriocs at florida dont mean squat he will not be denvers starting qb ever again get over it people hes not an nfl qb sorry.
I am excited about Weber too. And I would like to see what Quinn can do given a proper chance. Hopefully they won’t all get a chance, because one will pan out before hand. But the worst thing we could possibly do is start a QB carousel. No chance there. We need to pick a QB1 and give him a fair shot. At least 20 games.
Mind you, my support is not undyingly behind Tebow. If after this raiders game they decide to put Quinn in, or to start weber, I am fine with that decision. Just stick with it.
We need to put the full faith of the organization behind a starter, and give him a significant amount of time to prove himself either way. Otherwise we are just spinning our wheels.
In preseason people around the team said weber was the 3rd best QB not tebow… Tebow gets a 5 game audition to me if he is 3 and 2 he keeps playing but less means I want to see Quinn… just my opinion we need to find out about all QBs on the roster not just Tebow
Weber is my guy, we should drop one QB on the active roster and move him up before someone grabs him. Many of you guys have gotten exactly what you wanted, the least you could do is support the players and coaches you’ve been ranting about for months. The old saying, “be careful what you ask for , you just might get it ” comes to mind. The players and staff need our support more than ever. Changes will be made over the next few years to better the squad but this is the team we have for this season. They won’t quit if we, the fans, don’t quit on them. Nobody likes losing, but I can put with it as long as the guys are fighting their butts off. Go Broncos!
