McGahee Ready to Run

May 2nd, 2012 - 6:27pm by Stuart Zaas

Fresh off a record-breaking season on the ground in 2011, running back Willis McGahee is ready to hit the ground running with the team’s new-look offense in 2012.

The biggest change to that unit is the newly-signed four-time NFL MVP quarterback that will be under center when Denver opens its season against Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 9.

“Who wouldn’t be happy to play with Peyton Manning?” McGahee said. “He’s arguably the best quarterback there is. I was ecstatic.”

McGahee said he’s excited to join forces with the player that fellow former Raven Justin Bannan called “The Baltimore Killer” for his success against the Ravens.

“It feels great, because we’re actually playing Baltimore, so I guess he can be The Baltimore Killer all he wants,” McGahee said. “I’m happy. I can’t complain. It’s great to have Peyton on our team.”

While the coaches are now allowed on the field in conjunction with the beginning of Phase Two of the offseason program this week, McGahee credited Manning with helping the team get a leg up during Phase One of the program.

“He brings a different kind of leadership to the team and not only on the football field, but off the field in the weight room,” McGahee said. “He’s that guy that is making sure everybody is doing everything right. That’s what some of us need.”

Below are some other quick hits from McGahee’s press conference:

On retired safety Brian Dawkins
“It’s different. B-Dawk is my guy. That’s who I sat next to on the plane, that’s who I sat next to on game day. It’s going to be different. I think Dawkins is one of those guys who is very passionate about what he does. It doesn’t even matter what he’s doing – on the field or off the field, he’s going to be passionate and he’s going to tell you what he feels. That’s what I like about him – he’s not going to hold his tongue or anything.”

On whether he’s watched any tape of the Colts’ running game
“I just roll with the flow. I’ve been watching the film, but at the end of the day, who says it is going to go like that when the season starts?”

On playing the safety position during the Pro Bowl
“That was a dream I always wanted to do. Coaches fulfilled it.”

On rookie RB Ronnie Hillman being born in 1991
“No. (WR Brandon) Stokley is older than me, so I’m not worried about it [laughing]. I’m only 30 now, come on. I came out when I was 20. He’ll be alright.”

On WR Eric Decker’s chemistry with QB Peyton Manning
“I can see the bond they’re getting because they’re always laughing and joking around and I get kind of jealous sometimes in the weight room (laughs), but they’re a [quarterback] and receiver so their chemistry has to be a little better.”

I think we are good to make a run but I think we are still a little behind the Patriots right now. Dont think we can beat them this year.

    *Safeties

  3. SWBronco says:

AB, I never use the Patriots as a measuring stick (probably not the best strategy), I just look at where we were, who we beat, how we beat ‘em, where we are now and extrapolate from there. The playoffs are a totally different beast so you never know haha

I think if the Wolfe can get us a push up the middle,Brady is in for a long day.

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

Well as long as we are not a long way from the Pats…(45-10)…I can dig it…we are getting a Helluva lot closer!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

I think Wolfe and Jackson, with a healthy Warren, will make our Dline LOTS better,if we can put pressure on Brady,we can beat the Pats, that’s the only way you can beat them, look at what the Giants did!

  7. buck484 says:

I just don’t want to relive that 7-3 KC win over us. That, to me, was the worst.

  8. BeastFromEast92 says:

Plus Porter,Adams, and a healthy Sid will help our secondary!…and the CB we drafted(can’t remember his name).

  9. buck484 says:

We are in way better shape than last year both offense and defense.

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

Plus we signed an undrafted Safety, that is supposed to be great(can’t remember his name either Damnit)!

  11. BeastFromEast92 says:

We are a lot better team than we were last year, and with a full off season to get ready,I think we will SURPRISE!!!!!!!!

  12. BeastFromEast92 says:

I think we got 2/3 guys that can return this year too!

We are a lot closer to beating the Pats no doubt. But the road to the SB for the AFC is through them. I just dont think we have enough to get past them yet.

DB: NO offense taken. After rereading my blog I can see how it wasn’t clear that the three C of alcoholism (Or any addiction) are for those around the addictive pertsonality, not the addict.
AB: Glad to hear your dad was able to confront his deamon. Sadly for my dad, he never did. Never missed a day of work but often came home payday with no money because of the size of his bar tab. Hids work ethic was one of the things I am proudest about him. Just the same way, bust my ass no matter how menial the job is.

  28. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Hell I’m a twin…….no chit!!!!!!

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

Buck im hoping they arnt identical.

B F E Lakers are good. Still need a real great Point Guard. Kobe shows why he is top of the NBA basically every night. I would love to see them get Darrent Williams from the Nets. If they could Lakers would be hard to beat.

    Thanks Buck and SW.

  30. buck484 says:

OSS….my grandpa was the same way..he worked like a dog in the coal mines…had 13 kids to support, but drank every penny away,I drink, but my bills are paid and my kids are VERY well taken care of………ashamed of him,but learned from his mistakes bro!

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

B F E Thats a scary thought two of you LOL Jk bro.

oldsouth my dad is very family oriented. SO when he saw the damage he was doing he forced himself to stop. Family comes first.

  33. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Only 1 BeastFromEast……my twin is a bit smaller,but a little bit more redneck……it’s all good tho,LMAO!

  34. FTR says:

    test

  35. alaskanbronco06 says:

B F E At least your family is well taken care of. IMO Its no biggy to drink as long as your family comes first and it doesnt get to the point you can support them. Thats how my dad was. Was always drinking the bills and stuff were never completely paid.

Thing that I think is awesome about my dad owning a bar is that the reason he opened it is so he had to test himself daily to not drink which he says is one of the hardest things he does everyday but he deals with it for what he put my brothers through and my mom when she was a round.

  36. BeastFromEast92 says:

He comes to my house on the weekends to get away from his wife…….mostly the reason I don’t have any drunken rants on Friday nights anymore, thanks to him….we party outside around the fire pit or shoot pool till daylight…good times tho!
    ROCK-N-ROLL!!!!!!

  37. alaskanbronco06 says:

FTR we got your test. Can I start answering the questions now? lol

  38. BeastFromEast92 says:

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

  40. alaskanbronco06 says:

Thats how it is B F E!!! Just has to be that way IMO.

  41. FTR says:

  42. BeastFromEast92 says:

  43. FTR says:
