McGahee Ready to Run

May 2nd, 2012 - 6:27pm by Stuart Zaas

Fresh off a record-breaking season on the ground in 2011, running back Willis McGahee is ready to hit the ground running with the team’s new-look offense in 2012.

The biggest change to that unit is the newly-signed four-time NFL MVP quarterback that will be under center when Denver opens its season against Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 9.

“Who wouldn’t be happy to play with Peyton Manning?” McGahee said. “He’s arguably the best quarterback there is. I was ecstatic.”

McGahee said he’s excited to join forces with the player that fellow former Raven Justin Bannan called “The Baltimore Killer” for his success against the Ravens.

“It feels great, because we’re actually playing Baltimore, so I guess he can be The Baltimore Killer all he wants,” McGahee said. “I’m happy. I can’t complain. It’s great to have Peyton on our team.”

While the coaches are now allowed on the field in conjunction with the beginning of Phase Two of the offseason program this week, McGahee credited Manning with helping the team get a leg up during Phase One of the program.

“He brings a different kind of leadership to the team and not only on the football field, but off the field in the weight room,” McGahee said. “He’s that guy that is making sure everybody is doing everything right. That’s what some of us need.”

Below are some other quick hits from McGahee’s press conference:

On retired safety Brian Dawkins
“It’s different. B-Dawk is my guy. That’s who I sat next to on the plane, that’s who I sat next to on game day. It’s going to be different. I think Dawkins is one of those guys who is very passionate about what he does. It doesn’t even matter what he’s doing – on the field or off the field, he’s going to be passionate and he’s going to tell you what he feels. That’s what I like about him – he’s not going to hold his tongue or anything.”

On whether he’s watched any tape of the Colts’ running game
“I just roll with the flow. I’ve been watching the film, but at the end of the day, who says it is going to go like that when the season starts?”

On playing the safety position during the Pro Bowl
“That was a dream I always wanted to do. Coaches fulfilled it.”

On rookie RB Ronnie Hillman being born in 1991
“No. (WR Brandon) Stokley is older than me, so I’m not worried about it [laughing]. I’m only 30 now, come on. I came out when I was 20. He’ll be alright.”

On WR Eric Decker’s chemistry with QB Peyton Manning
“I can see the bond they’re getting because they’re always laughing and joking around and I get kind of jealous sometimes in the weight room (laughs), but they’re a [quarterback] and receiver so their chemistry has to be a little better.”

Trade a 1st round pick(#12) for a 6th round pick,I’d rather see if he can stay healthy, and give him one more chance, and then cut him after this year,if he dosen’t pan out,or ends up injured again…just me!

  3. skillz_inc says:

well then lets hope he preforms and we get a fourth for him ;)

  4. tlcat06 says:

I just hate the wasted pick with him. Imagine what else we could’ve gotten.

  5. broncosfreak30 says:

Dang guys I’ve never read soo much about injuries with peyton. I can understand non bronco fans but lets give it a rest. Elway was 37 and 38 when he won his two superbowls. His surgery was only to clean out some bad nerves. Let’s think positive and move on

  6. skillz_inc says:

and i think u are thinking in terms of inside the box shoot a sixth or a fifth round pick could be packaged with another to move up to grab some1 earlier in the first or just move into the third i mean it is an extra pick those can be used for bigger things ;)

  7. tlcat06 says:

LOL! I’m with you. No surgeries.

  8. skillz_inc says:

What I am trying to say is the Broncos could end up getting a heck of a player for some1 whose nickname is NOSHOW ya know

  9. broncosfreak30 says:

Whatever is meant to be will happen. I am pretty confident about what he’ll do this year. Lets only think positive things.

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

Right on freak,I agree bro……let’s put these rumours to rest now!
PM is primed and ready to lead us to the SB!

  11. alaskanbronco06 says:

A 6th rounder for Knowhow would be great! lol Always better to get something for nothing ;) cant go broke accepting a profit Heck even a 7th for Knowshow would be something for nothing

  12. skillz_inc says:

I think PM will be just fine ;)

  13. skillz_inc says:

what if u spend more than your profit ab? lol

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

If PM says he’s ready to go,I don’t see why all the doubters post all the negatives,PM is a class guy all the way,If he says let’s go,well then ByGod Let’s Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    B.F.E.

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

Skillz if you spend more than a profit than you get a profit elsewhere to make up the difference.

  16. skillz_inc says:

    AMEN B.F.E.

  17. skillz_inc says:

but what if you don’t have that many hoes?

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

  19. skillz_inc says:

I am just kidding sorry ladies was just being silly ;)

  20. tlcat06 says:

I’m telling ya, if he wasn’t healthy he wouldve retired!!! he knows more about his neck and body than we do!

  21. BeastFromEast92 says:

Knoxville West, with all the UT players,Manning,Colquitt,Ayers, and Jackson…I can dig it,that’s for sure..suits me just fine!
We’ve had some great UT players in the past!
    BTW…I’m a HUGE UT fan,lol.

  22. BeastFromEast92 says:

PM is the classiest guy in the NFL,I’m tellin’ you guys if he couldn’t play he would have retired,a lot of nay sayers (I won’t mention names) say he’s washed up,but ByGod they will be eating crow before the season is over, but that’s ok,we have all kinds of room on the PM bandwagon!!!!!…..just quit the hatin’ on Peyton!

  23. buck484 says:

Is it just me or are others having trouble posting?

  24. buck484 says:

Beast if the guys in the lockeroom (Champ,Decker,Mcgahee) are saying Peyton is good to go thats enough for me. I don’t need anyone hating either and question their reasoning.

  25. BeastFromEast92 says:

AMEN buck, good enough for me too bro!
I think most all the haters are TT fans……..

  26. BeastFromEast92 says:

If you’re trying to post to me bro, you’ll have to call me B.F.E. Beast,or B F E,because my regular signature has been banned!

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

    AB you there?

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

Whats up B F E? Ive been here just been reading.

  29. buck484 says:

Guess that was it Beast. First post wouldn’t work, changed you handle and it went through. I can’t wait to see our guys light it up. GO Broncos

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

Just as soon as Cutcliff and Stokley said PM was good to go,that was all I needed to jump on the bandwagon for the best QB of all time!

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

Just sitting here mellowing out with a cold one…….whaaaaaaaaasup?

  32. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah buck if you post anything with a name in the post that has been banned, the entire post will be rejected, sorry guys for all the inconveniences!

  33. alaskanbronco06 says:

Nothing bro just relaxing long few days at work.

I was the biggest one talking PMs injuries but just listen to what more and more people are saying about it. We should be good to go. I wont say SB this year but next year its a lot better chance IMO need the time to bond and get situated as a team.

  34. BeastFromEast92 says:

About time we had a real arial attack….I can’t wait!

  35. buck484 says:

AB and Beast the contest winners on at the same time! Congrats ,both of you, .

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

Its going to be interesting thats for sure B F E

    Thanks Buck

  37. buck484 says:

What you guys think of the NO suspensions placed on their players.

  38. alaskanbronco06 says:

I think the league showed that there is no place for that going on in the NFL which is good!

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

I can understand your reasoning bro,but I’m on the bandwagon for this year, might be setting myself up for a fall, but the way I see it,we have a better QB,a better Defense,a better DC,a better strength and conditioning staff, and guys coming off injury, and a decent draft, plus some good additions at CFAs!….skies the limit!

  40. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Thanks buck!

I think the commisioner done a great job,no cheating in this league, way too much money floating around to have cheaters!!!!!

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

B F E I get all that bro! I dont set high hopes so if i get let down its not a long fall ;)

Im really excited to see what Page and Robinson can do with Manning. I really hope they both make the roster.

  42. buck484 says:

Have you heard if Brees signed yet? Im glad Porter is ok.

  43. BeastFromEast92 says:

Glad Porter wasn’t suspended,I think he will do a great job opposite Champ,if he does I think we need to sign him to a long term contract!
    He’s only played for what,4 years……..so he’s like 26/27?

  44. alaskanbronco06 says:

I dont think Brees has signed yet. I havnt heard anything of it if he has.

  45. buck484 says:

I think we have all the pieces to make a run for the SB this year. I think we have strengthened our position everwhere.

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

    I understand your reasoning AB!
I’m too old for that philosophy tho..LMAO..I wanna win now!

  47. alaskanbronco06 says:

Lol B F E!!! It would be great to see Denver seriously compete for the next 3-5 years!!! Even longer if Brock doesnt get rushed in his grooming!

  48. buck484 says:

I wish Dawk could have waited one more year. We might have been able to get him that ring.

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

I’m as excited as I have been since ’98,I knew Plummer wasn’t gonna take us anywhere,we have the players at the skill positions to at least make a run deep into the playoffs, imo!

  50. BeastFromEast92 says:

AMEN bro……hopefully PM will stay healthy for 3-5 years and OZ will learn to be a great QB!!!!

Yeah buck,I wished Dawk would have stayed 1 more year, but it was ultimately his decision to make, ans he chose to retire..I’m just thankful that I have been around long enough to see Smith,Atwater,Lynch, and Dawk as Broncos!!!!!!!!
