McGahee Back at Practice Tuesday

November 15th, 2011 - 12:40pm by Stuart Zaas

Running back Willis McGahee participated in the portion of practice open to the media on Tuesday. The ninth-year pro left Sunday’s game against the Chiefs after suffering a hamstring injury in the first quarter.

“He was cleared to come back into the game, but we weren’t going to put him in there unless it was an emergency situation all in part to have him ready for this Thursday,” Head Coach John Fox said on Monday. “I think it obviously helped. Whether or not it will come to fruition, I’m not sure, but he’s a guy that we’d like to have healthy Thursday night.”

McGahee leads the team with 640 rushing yards, including a season-high 163 yards in Denver’s 38-24 win at Oakland in Week 9. He has topped the 100-yard mark in four games this season, which ties him for the third most in the league this season.

Linebacker Wesley Woodyard and cornerback Cassius Vaughn were also present at the beginning of practice on Tuesday — both were inactive on Sunday with knee and hamstring injuries, respectively. Every player on the roster participated in practice on Tuesday.

Still sounds iffy about McGahee, that would be a huge loss for this game.

  2. brian_schneider says:

We definitely don’t want to bring back McGahee too soon and risk further missed time.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

Overall a real healthy squad the last couple of weeks though, no excuses injury wise this year for a change.

  4. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I believe in JJ if it comes down to it. Gonna miss moreno … he was finally showing what he could do be fore the season ending injury. Guy can’t catch a break. It worries me because he was our best receiving back and third down dude. McGahee can do it all for the most part but Blls hands are the worst. Wonder how JJ catches … wont matter tho, no way they put such an unproven pass blocker on receiving downs. Hope McGahee can go. TRB

  5. baylinorcrush says:

I knew you’d slide one more Moreno prop in there somewhere, LOL.

Can it be the last one til next year though? Just kidding, defend your boys all you want, Marshall, Moreno and DJ, all the ones I could care less for as you well know.

  6. DenFan_Iowa says:

Breaks his hand comes back 10 days later now this. He defines what Thoughness is in the NFL . Can’t wait for thursday night.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Obviously if McGahee can’t go it’s gonna be Ball most of the carries along with Tebow plus Larsen and Royal here and there, seriously doubt JJ will get much playing time this week either way.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

If I had favorite players, McGahee would be right up there, he should be a captain, not Orton.

  9. DenFan_Iowa says:

If we are only gong to throw it 10 times a game how many of those are going to the RB anyways. i do think JJ has the best hands from what i seen in the short time he was in, but as a life long Denver fan i am used to our top players getting hurt.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

I swear this article wasn’t on the DP when I said McGahee was iffy up top:

Broncos’ Willis McGahee remains iffy for Jets game
    By Lindsay H. Jones
    The Denver Post

    Hi Lindsay! LOL.

  11. DenFan_Iowa says:

    or traded

  12. savinghyrule says:

It warms my soul to have everyone at practice. Even though I’m eating ice cream.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

It’s easy to have the best hands as a RB when the competition is Ball, that guy usually can’t catch a cold even so he has made a couple big ones this year.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

Here are more details about McGahee:

McGahee, who injured his left hamstring early in the Broncos’ victory over Kansas City on Sunday, went through warm-ups and stretching but did not participate in individual drills in the portion of practice that was open to the media today.

  15. DenFan_Iowa says:

    I Agree @baylinocrush

  16. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Quite honestly bay…I just give credit where credit is due … even gave Orton credit on some passes and I really did not like that guy. If u don’t think moreno was running well before he went down that’s cool. To each his own u know. But when line blocks which wasn’t the case till this year which he barely played, he can do his thing too. Just can’t stay healthy to save his life or in this case his career. Wont call Moreno or DJ my boys … just defend em even if its not the popular opinion … Marshall on the other hand … u already know … one of my fave players ever. He put it down on da field … now him … that’s my boy lmao

  17. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Hahahaha @ ball can’t catch a cold … is it really that hard to practice catching balls? Lol … he did have a receiving td against da packers or something … but that there is what we call an anomaly lol

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Moreno was getting better playing wise but health wise he remains the same so that really doesn’t add up to anything, does it, to me it’s just simply a waste of everybody’s time to hope that one day he will suddenly be injury free. Unfortunately for us, with two more years on his contract and no one in their right mind willing to trade for him, I’ll have to watch him getting paid for little contribution for two more years, bummer, but at least I don’t have to hear about him for this season, I hope, LOL.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

It could be worse, I could be Bowlen, and having to pay Moreno, haha.

  20. brian_schneider says:

It could be worse yet, you could be Bowlen, and have to pay Orton.

  21. shaztah says:

Did I miss Fox stating that Tebow was starting the Thursday night game? You kow, since Tim is week to week and all.

  22. baylinorcrush says:

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3.4 mil he could of saved had he just cut him, insane.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

shaztah’s got some fire in her belly…

  24. since1972 says:

Finally on the board in the score predictions, Now I’m about to go out on the W.O.S. limb and pick the Broncos to win the Jets game. I think the jets are on their heels a little bit and the Broncos defense is starting to gel plus its about time the Broncos win a home game. 24-17 Broncos.

  25. brian_schneider says:

I think Tebow is starting because he handsoff better than Orton.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

You’re safe 72, no WOS material there no matter what team wins.

  27. Broncfalls says:

MUST READ!!!!!! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAVE READ DIRECT STATEMENTS TO SUGGEST HE IS EXCITED ABOUT WHAT TIM IS DOING….my apologies if you already have seen it…..I thought it was a very, very good article…Showed a side of Fox you don’t see in his press conferences. happy reading….Tebow supporters…you’ll love it!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  28. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, we saw it, OC just posted it in the last blog and a discussion ensued, early bird gets the worm, you get the squirrel as usual, LOL.

  29. seweatherman1 says:

O.K. here comes one of those dumb questions again. Just say…they find out that this injury to Moreno is career ending. I know he has been placed on IR, but wouldn’t there be a provision someplace in the event of a career ending injury?

  30. Broncfalls says:

Bay, I’m sending you a squirrel tail for Christman! LOL! I’ll even paint it orange and blue for you!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  31. Kengro says:

I sure didnt get a big boost of confidence about McGahee playing from this article. I think NYJ are more talented than KC on offense and defense. We might be in trouble this week. Its close because we are at home.

    Jets 23
    Broncos 20

  32. 1nOnlyTRB says:

If u say so Bay. Dunno how it works weatherman. Many live to play again after ACL surgery…McGahee also came back from a supposed career ender. I do know that Moreno got all his money up front so I think he is playing for cheap these days. TRB

  33. Crush Arizona says:

Just say no to Moreno, this guy is more fragile than chris chandler or should I say chandelier. What I would give to have TD or Anderson or Bell back now!! But I for one think that Timbo can do this thing. He is the only QB that I ever seen have a 100.2 Qb rating on only two completions..i don’t know Bay, have you ever heard of such a thing? you being the stats guy an all. There is only one word to explain Tim Tebow…..WINNER, this may be a passing league but its still a game of inches and clock management. And if you can keep the opponents defense on the field all day even Joe Montana couldn’t shred you all day with the pass. So I say unless John want’s to get out of the office and don the ole no.7 jersey again, Pound that puppy in there with the option all day long win on 3rd down on both sides of the ball and play great special teams and I don’t see how 9-7 and the west maybe more can’t be our fate..Go Broncos GROUND AND POUND THE J E T S!!!!

  34. Crush Arizona says:

    Broncos 24
    jets 21

  35. Crush Arizona says:

OH, AND WE REALLY NEED TO WORK ON THOSE short FRACKING FIELD GOALS!!!! all I can say is WTF OVER!!

  36. whackmac says:

I’ll take the Bronco’s by three. The best thing about Denver and the Broncs this season is that they get better every game. It wouldn’t surprize me if all of a sudden Denver opened up with some screen passes and crossing patterns just at the right time. It just didn’t make sense to make that step Raiders or Chiefs but this team has shown an ability to make just enough change, at the right time, to get the job done. I realize we are big underdogs, but that is part of what makes me such a loyal Denver fan.

  37. whackmac says:

Believe me, being way up in Wyoming, there are some times when I have had to deal with a lot of abuse (being such a staunch Denver fan). Tebow has really given me some upmanship with these last two wins.

  38. displaced fan 17 says:

I am picking us to win it 24-20 with a healthy McGahee. If not…..Realistically i think we will drop it 21-13. Only because Fox will be to afraid to call agressive plays and continue to call the same read option run over and over again. It is nice, dont get me wrong, but on the sorriest nfl team, you will not get away with running the same thing over and over again. Defense won that game in KC……that and a 56 yard perfect strike from TEBOWMANIA!

  39. armadillo_orton says:

    Broncos 23 …. Jets 17

Tebow: 199 passing yards 2 passing td’s… 65 yards rushing

  40. armadillo_orton says:

    Dear Mr. FOX,

Thank you for allowing coach McCoy to tweek the offense towards Tebow’s strengths. You showed real leadership, and we are all proud.

I hate to ask you for anything, but I must. Coach can you please allow McCoy to call alot of short passing plays in the middle of the field. Please use the TE again, and the screen pass, and maybe a WR hook pass, or even a ….. QUICK SLANT.. I know this would take a tremendous amount of courage on your part, due to you extreme fearfulness of a turnover, but it will show us fans that you are a truely a great man (which I know you are).
Thank you again for all that you have done so far this season, and I look forward to Thursday game.

    Sincerely,

    Fox’s Biggest Denver FAN

  41. khbf says:

If you really think about it this is Tebow’s per season he’s getting his rep’s with the 1′s It apears that the coaches have figured it out. If you can run that will open up the pass and with all the running Tebow is getting more time to learn to read defences as well as the throwing rep’s he now gets with the ’1s in pratice he is only getting better now that we have a running threat the line has a chance to block to give him time in the pocket and that will help. He is still a young Qb that needs time. But If you look at his incompletions he is playing it safe no turn overs has to be his goal if he thew 3 picks in 1 game he would never see the field again and he knows this. The thing is that only applys to Tebow look at how many picks Rivers has allready and his is considered eliet Or how about Cam If you look at Tebows collage stats Td’s to picks or completion % which i think was around 63% that would say he’s smart and protect’ s the ball and let’s not forget that was in the SEC not the Mountian West or confrance USA This is the toughest confrence wtih the fastest and best defences Just saying I hope afer 1 loss he’s not yanked and getting all the blame like he is for only 8 passing attempts In less things have changed I don’t think he calls the plays. And with 2 clear drops how many where smart throw aways I think these people just need someting to talk about If you can run the ball keep it up till they force you to do somrthing eles If your a pitcher they tell you to throw your fastball till they prove they can hit it
