  1. George Bush says:

Well Mr Bowlen has been quite clear in his letter that he made the choice of bringing Josh McDaniels to Denver as Head Coach and he gave Coach McDaniels carte blanche over how he moulds the team in future.

I think that McDaniels is more comfortable with a vanilla quarterback that he can coach within his system than have a naturally talented quarterback who is more likely to have maverick tendencies. On the good side this means that Coach will have fine control over all aspects of the offense. Adversely he will not have the extra cutting edge that a top flight QB gives you.

If any of you watch the English Premier League you will see flair teams that gamble, like Manchester United, and machine-like teams which grind out wins, such as Liverpool and Chelsea. So it is like we are moving from a flair team (Manchester United are World Champions) to a mechanical team.

So what I would expect to see from Coach McDaniels is less risk and less turnovers, but also a more mechanical offense with greater team efficiency, but fewer stand-out plays. Winning at all costs often means sacrificing excitement.

The one thing we do know is that we will never find out how good the 2008 Broncos’ offence could have become, because it no longer exists. Ultimately Jay Cutler’s loyalty lay with Mike Shanahan and not Pat Bowlen, and once Pat Bowlen had got rid of Mile Shanahan, and brought in Coach McDaniels the dye was cast.

So in many ways Jay Cutler leaving was nobody’s fault, just a natural occurence when you change the whole psycholgy of the team. The whole McJaygate affair has been cathartic for the organisation and fans. Only time will tell whether it has been for good or ill.

As fans all we can do is support the team and each other and wish Coach McDaniels well. He has put his head on the block, put himself under great pressure, and his reputation will depend on not only how well the draft goes but on the performance of the team this year, and hopefully next year in the play-offs.

  2. Cutlerizer says:

Yes. Quite right, Mr. Bush. I couldn’t agree with you more. With the departure of Shannahan, one could say that the “Elway era”–or as you suggest, the era of Broncos’ offensive flair has finally and officially come to a close. The new coach brings a much more mechanical and coach-managed phylosophy about him.

Time alone will tell if this is for good or for ill. Time, as well, will be the only remedy for this dis-ease to subside among the element of fans who have held on to the Elway formula.

I hope that the new coach can succeed in bringing about a shadow of the Defensive flair that predated the Elway flair. Bring back, if you will… the Crush!

  3. broncofanlvnm says:

Please just focus on defense in the draft. Unless we can pick up Sanchez with our first pick, we should focus on the DT position and get BJ Raji or Brian Cushing at LB . Remember the old cliche “defense wins championships!” GO BRONCOS BRING BACK THE ORANGE CRUSH!!!

  4. kase78matt says:

how does every1 feel bout given up the 18th pick to get peppers

  5. monodono says:

broncos14441,your right Brian Orakpo will probably be gone by the time we get our first pick but so will Raji and I think NT is our biggest concern so I went with a wet dream there.( Hence the perfect World statement). I will check out your Mock Draft after this.

flip17035, Who would be the LBers & RB’s you would take? and
I’m pretty sure Jay Cutler signed a 6yr 48 Million dollar contract, That hardly compares to Chris Simms’ 2yr 6million Dollar contract. Thats 5million per year diff. Besides It doesn’t matter what some one elses contract is it’s what agreement You’ve made and should Honor that matters.

    Thanks LBWilson56, this one’s for you…

broncos14441, You’ve got some good insight. Let Me give it a shot.

    1. Detriot Lions - Mark Sanchez, QB, USC
    2. St. Louis Rams- Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
    3. Kansas City Chiets- Arron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
    4. Seattle Seahawks- Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
    5. Cleveland Browns - Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia
    6. Cincinnati Bengals - Michael Oher, OT, Ole’ Miss
    7. Oakland Raiders - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
    8. Jacksonville Jaguars-B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College
    9. Green Bay Packers - Ron Brace, DT, Boston College
    10. San Francisco 49ers - Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
    11. Buffalo Bills –Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas
    12. Denver Broncos -Rey Maualuga, LB, USC

Thought I’d leave it at that and throw you a curve ball just for conversation sake. What if The Broncos give Cleveland Their 18th pick for Quinn? What do you think?

By the way I like yours better, but I’m not sure we need another QB I think we will be just fine. Tyson Jackson, DE/OLB, LSU would be a great addition to the D. I would like to see Chris “Beanie” Wells, HB, Ohio St. He is the most dominant RB in the Draft.

No way do the Browns take yet another QB, that’s crazy dude, I mean CRAZY. Bowlen’s letter meant a lot to me, he didn’t have to take the time to explain to all the fans what happened, but he did. I’ve always thought highly of him, even if I’m questioning what’s going on now. No, I don’t blame Bowlen for this mess, but I do know that McDaniels has to win RIGHT NOW. No matter what happens I’m not going to hammer Orton, we all know what he is and what he’s not. McDaniels made this mess, the bullseye is on him. Yes, I thought Cutler was going to be our future, but if he can’t return Pat’s calls he can move along with his ball. I DO, however, believe this whole mess got started because McDaniels felt the need for his security blanket. He can stress team and we all he wants, but the bottom line is that he made a self centered move in trying to acquire Cassell.

yo sup BroncosCountry? I hope we don’t draft a QB in the 1st rd. I think Orton+Simms will be better than Sanchez. DEF Orton. That kid does not have Cutler’s skill set, but he’s a gamer+smart QB. The kid has proven he can win in Chicago (I know their ST+D is better than ours). DRAFT D in ‘09!!!! I also heard rumors that we might pick up Beanie?! true this?! Big Mistake. Even though that kid is built like a tank he gets hurt all the time. He plays more like Jane then Tarzan. I think he’s got some Ron Dayne in him. Bruiser college back, but will not bring the PAIN in the NFL. Trade the 18th pick+pick up another 2nd/3rd. We can get great depth+value b/n rds 2-5. I’m 100% Against having 2 1st rd picks. Sooo many 1st rounders have been a bust. Especially w/the heavy sign on bonus for these kids. Still DL w/the 12th pick. Seems like we got our bullseye on Tyson Jackson. I hope Rajii/Orakpo stay there. Trade 18th pick to move up in draft to get those kids. I heard Rajii has some legal (?) issues. True?! Safety+Corner in rds 2+3+get another OLB w/our 2nd 3rd pick. Draft Texax A$M AB Stephen McGee in the 4th or 5th rd. That kid is Nailz!!!! I also think we should pick up BVP+put him as a Safety!!! am I right or am I right? keep it real, homeys. Punches n Bunches

  10. hrdnokd says:

Raji got popped for dope at the combine, don’t smoke pot kids! A little bird told me to watch and wait on one Brady Quinn….he may be our new starting qb by the end of the draft or a few days before. I don’t like taking Jackson that high, he’s a 3-4 DE and you can snag a bunch of those guys later in the draft. If no DB’s have been taken by that point the pick of the litter will be our choice. Look for the DT/DE spot to be filled with the 18th pick. We may not have a 2nd/3rd rounder if we get Quinn…SOMEONE GET ME A #10 JERSEY!

  11. monodono says:

I threw my list together in about 30min. and added the rumor of The Broncos trading their 18th for Quinn, thats why I have Cleveland picking Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia. It was for conversation and fun. You guy’s have some good points and I’m looking forward to the press conferance with Chris Simms and Kyle Orton today. What if Quinn was here to compete? that would be Huge. Can’t wait to hear what they have to say about competing for the #1 spot with Hackney.
    See Ya!

  14. broncomaniac4life says:

yo monodono? who would you rather have as the starter? Orton or Quinn? Id take Orton. Did they play against each other in college (PU vs ND)? I think Orton has more intangibles, but Quinn has more skills. I’ll take Will over Skill anyday of the week…peace. punches n bunches

  15. kase78matt says:

heres how i could see it playin out if we use our 18th for peppers. we get the de carolina gets quinn, clevland gets the 18th pick

  16. tjnartw says:

hackney was released today, I really think that they should have 3 qb’s before they go into preseason.

  17. monodono says:

broncomaniac4life, I would take all three in a heart beat!
