McDaniels Comments on Clady

April 28th, 2010 - 5:15pm by Gray Caldwell

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora is reporting that Ryan Clady has undergone knee surgery, and will be out for three-to-four months.

“It’s an unfortunate situation with Ryan, but we’re hopeful that everything will be OK for the season,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels told NFL Network.

He said that although the situation “is not ideal,” it could benefit some of the other players on the roster, as they could see increased playing time in upcoming minicamps.

OSS, I was thinking the same exact thing. Get it out of the way now.

In case anybody was wondering, a ligament attaches bone to muscle!

I thought our next blog would be about us signing a good free agent lol
I just hope Clady recovers fast and he is the same player.

    Brady Quinn=Super bowl

    great..just great!!..bummer……

    offseason games are trouble…

  6. MileHighMonty says:

I played small-time Division 3 football and we all signed something that said we would not do anything that would jeopardize our playing ability. One of the things on the list was playing basketball. Too many kids roll ankles and try to dunk and break arms. Clady really should have known better.

But…Now that this has happened I hope that he heals quickly and that the other guys learn from this!

  7. brian_schneider says:

Hope he recovers fast and completely!

Now, we’ll really see what some of these rookies are made of. Now is the time for them to step up to the line. A lot of rookies don’t get these types of chances so I wouldn’t be suprised to see one or two of our rookie o-lineman come up big in Clady’s absense. Not only will they need to step up they have no choice but to step up. Hopefully Clady’s return will be sooner than later.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

The good thing about his injury, it is reported that he tore that tendon only 50%, that’s why he may be back for the start of the season, had he tore it off completely, he would most likely have been gone for the season, so there is room to hope for the best, wich would be not missing a regular game for me.

  9. brian_schneider says:

Totally unrealated, I am happy to see we have a few WR with numbers in the 80′s. I don’t know why but I just miss see 80′s numbers out on the field. I think I may have asked this but do you think they’ll ever issue anyone #80?

  10. baylinorcrush says:

I would think they would, it’s not a retired number, problem is probably more that the receiver himself doesn’t want to take on the added pressure of getting Rod’s #. I guess it will take some young player who is enamored with Rod as much as that Decker kid is with McCaffrey who just took his #87.

  11. DoomervilRocks92 says:

I really hope they don’t, Brian. There should be some numbers that shouldn’t be used and should be retired, like #30, #27, and #80. All the people who wore those numbers belong in the HOF. (TD, Atwater, D-Will, Rod Smith)

  12. baylinorcrush says:

D-Will in the HOF? I know it would be a wonderful gesture for the horrific ending to that guy’s short life, but in itself that is not something that should get you to the HOF, there are many other ways to immortalized the young man without an induction into the HOF, just my opinion.

  13. DoomervilRocks92 says:

Sorry bay, I meant that is one of the reasons it should be retired. My bad, I should have explained that better.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

    Got you, makes more sense…

  15. baylinorcrush says:

Something no one has made a reference too, Demaryius Thomas has taken #88, the # of our first big time TE, Clarence Kay who was in the first 3 SB’s with John Elway.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Other #s chosen of significance for me:

    Jammie Kirlew 53, Randy Gradishar

    Perrish Cox 32, Jon Keyworth

    Syd’Quan Thompson 43, Steve Foley

    Tyler Polumbus 77, Lyle Alzado

    JJ Arrington 26, Clinton Portis

  17. oldsouthstander says:

    BC:
Didn’t know you went that far back.
    A few more:
    Rich Jacksson 87
    Tom Jackson 57
    Craig Morton 7

  18. Orange_Crusher says:

    Is the #7 jersey retired?

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, that’s why Gerhart couldn’t be a Bronco, LOL.

  20. denverbro89 says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I like Selvin Young more than I like Arrington, both have durability problems, but Young seems like he can be that 3rd down back and be successful at that 3rd spot, he reminds me of Tashard Choice, who is the last guy you think of when you think of the Dallas Cowboys, although he has been the back they fall back on when Barber AND Jones is hurt.

  21. camharland says:

Is Selvin Young back? Did I miss something?

  22. denverbro89 says:

No I was just saying how I wish we signed Young over Arrington.

  23. denverbro89 says:

But I guess since Arrington can contribute more on special teams, I guess he may have more value than Young.

  24. camharland says:

Two chaotic offseasons in a row. I was due a huge brainfart.

  25. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah Baylin Clarence Kay,a great TE,everybody forgot about him when Shannon started playing so good, but Kay was a great TE in his own right, thanks for reminding me of someone I totally forgot.

  26. denverbro89 says:

Clady believes he may be back before the offseason is completely over, I hope what he is saying is true, he is our most consistent player on the OL.

  27. Big D 44 says:

He is the most consistent player on offense.

  28. denverbro89 says:

But like coach McDaniels said, Clady being out provides opportunity for some of the UDFA combined with the guys with did draft to be seen. Paul Duncan, one of our UDFA is a huge tackle out of Notre Dame, and maybe he can shine in Clady’s absence, so much that he makes the team, he has played both tackle positions, with 41 games and 21 starts.

  29. BeastFromEast92 says:

Clady is an Irreplaceable BEAST,but if someone has to stand in until he gets back,I’m a lot more sure of our Oline backups than I was last year.

Did anyone catch the interview with McD on NFL Network this morning?? The man talks like he’s been a HC for years, very knowledgable of the game and makes good assesments of the players,I really hope he grows up fast this year, and turns into the coach Mr.B thinks he is.

    BFE

  30. denverbro89 says:

Don’t get me wrong BFE, I’m not saying Clady is replaceable, what I’M saying is that all the OL we have will get more reps and more looks now that Clady is hurt.

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

db89 I’m not disagreeing with you bro, just stating the obvious, that we don’t have anyone with the talent that Clady has,we have adequate backup, but we all want to see the big man hurry back.I’m sure we will all agree we’re glad McD drafted all the OL he did.I for one will be glad to take a look at some of these big guys in action,to see what there gonna bring.

    BFE

  32. strandoftds says:

I`m glad it was only half a tear, thank God. I`m confident Clady will be back. Do you all remember way back when Shanny first started as head coach for the Bronco`s? WE drafted a QB, I for got his name. He was a left hander. But in the off season one year this QB broke his leg,if I remember correctly he was playing basketball. Shortly there after he was released.

  33. UKBroncos says:

I was so impatient for the season to start, but Clady’s injury makes me think the longer the offseason the better (give him time to get healthy).

Does anyone else hope we trade Orton so that we get some value for him, perhaps to Buffalo for something like a second? Just think that’s the only way Quinn gets a proper chance before Tebow-time.

  34. BeastFromEast92 says:

For anyone wanting some info on the REAL Tebow:

  35. BIGGEST BRONCO says:

I HOPE HE’LL BE OK BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS. AND WILL STILL BE GOOD. I THINK HE WILL:) GO BRONCOS.

  36. broncosfreak30 says:

Hey guys, just saw this on NFL.com…Video discussing how Parrish Cox was probably the best steal in the WHOLE draft!!! Must watch!

  37. Orange_Crusher says:

UKB, It would seem that 4 QB’s is one too many.. I also would not mind seeing us trade Orton because I just don’t think he will be a very positive influence on the rest of the team since he knows this would be his last year anyway… Orton might see a trade as a great thing for him because he could go to a team that wants to invest in his future as a #1 QB.. Denver can only offer him a future as a backup player….jomho

Does anybody know if Ort has signed his tender?

If we are going to start two new WR’s a new C a new OG and now a new OT… We might as well start the new QB while we are at it and let them all gel together…

  38. baylinorcrush says:

OC, Orton was one of the first one to sign his tender.

  39. broncosfreak30 says:

Does anyone know when you can buy the authentic Tebow jersey??

  40. Orange_Crusher says:

Oh..I see.. humm, I thought he just signed an injury waver so he could practice with the team..

I guess one of the QB’s has to be the odd man out at some point. I have even read reports that it could be Quinn..idk? I think Orton would do himself a great favor by staying with Denver and becoming the consumate backup..

  41. UKBroncos says:

Nice spot BF30, Cox looks to have quickness and might be a real bonus.

Good to see McD get some credit from the draft. I still don’t see it being much or a reach for the 25th spot (43, a 3rd and 4th). Eagles gave us 2 3rd’s to move up 11 spots. Net gain for us in my opinion.

OC, I’m pretty sure Orton signed his tender. I agree that Orton might want out and to get a decent contract. I can only see Buffalo in enough need at the moment. Any other teams?

I need a “sign off” statement like the rest of you regulars. I might wait for the season before I choose one however!

  42. baylinorcrush says:

In my opinion Brandstater is the odd man out. Orton starts, Quinn is #2 and Tebow #3, unless some screwy injury thing happens to either one of them.

  43. baylinorcrush says:

No way we get rid of Orton now to be left with Quinn as starter and Tebow and Brandstater as back ups, not gonna happen. Just my opinion. I agree Orton is not the long term answer, but he is still the best shot for this year, at least until he shows us he is not.

  44. BeastFromEast92 says:

Baylin I agree with your assesment of the QB’s.

  45. baylinorcrush says:

Orton will be perfect this year to show the back ups how to get it done and when they are ready they will do all of that plus so much more, but throw them in there now and you might as well go buy yourselves a lottery ticket, because that’s the kind of gamble you would be taking, no way McD puts it all on the line like that, it might sound good to a fan, but not if your job is on the line… just saying.

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

It remains to be seen who gets the starting job next year,Quinn or Tebow, you gotta think it’s gonna be Tebow, but you never know how things work themselves out.

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton is not the future, but he’s the best shot we got this year, and the only one who actually knows the offense, and it’s his 2nd year in it,just saying.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

BFE, funny, we’re both “just saying”…

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

OC..do you think Orton will stay as a backup??? I don’t,I think he will be ready to move on,since he was supposed to be the starter here for a long time (at least in his eyes).jomho.
