How about drafting Tim Tebo in one of the later rounds as a backup for Cutler? If anything happens to Cutler next season we would be in deep trouble. We must take a top rated RB in the draft, and then work on the defence, but we could get some value on a backup QB in the later rounds.

  2. Bones1965 says:

ChampbailetMVP Tebow isn’t coming out for the draft this year he is staying in school. I am excited for this change I hope it work out for our team.

    Go Broncos.

  3. muthy27 says:

Tebo will be back for his senior yr. Draft defense, then draft more D and then finish with 3-4 more defense!

  4. BroncoRanger08 says:

I just hope we dont lose our zone blocking scheme: its proven to work.

  5. IAMMARSHALL says:

    Tebo, pebo, who cares.

I think this is a great hire. Hope they keep most of the offensive staff in place. I love the Nolan hire, as well.

Any truth to Capers joining the staff?

  6. broncosfan8210 says:

I think we should trade up in the draft and draft Mareno from georgia. And find a few good freeagents like haynesworth to anchor the middle and move bly to safty. Grab A young corner like a Merriwether. Get lynch back. And work on a Real middle linebacker. And for crying outloud get some good coordinaters. But good job Pat for Mcdaniels,And Nolan. Lets get some good people in under them.

  7. MileHighCity says:

    AWESOME!!

I just hope that whatever he taught Tom B. and Matt C. he teaches to Jay Cutler. I have a good feeling about next season.
I also hope to see some hard a$$ hits next season Defense.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

  8. rev79 says:

I only want a 3-4 defense if we can make it happen like the Steelers do… I think we have a great start at the LB position (making a solid interior LB), but we could use a couple of beefier DT/DE’s to make it happen… Trading Dumerville and Moss are musts if we make the switch (and nobody wants Moss)…

  9. reaper81 says:

i thank god that we have a guy like mcdaniels, although young, he has the experience that is needed to run this organization. i hope mr. mcdaniels that you hire the type of defensive monsters we need on the defensive side of the ball, i already know for a fact that you bring us up to a 10 on offense. so, with that said lets get our defense up to a 10. MICKY “D” lets knock ‘em dead in 2009.

  10. dustydallas2306 says:

rev jarvis moss is a skyscraper at DE. he will be amazing very soon, i promise. a 3/4 would be perfect for our defense, we have good enough linebackers to make it work. even if Boss is our 2nd ILB :-)
if we get lynch back, can we rehire shanahan too?

  11. broncos27* says:

Yea no kidding all we need to draft is defense defense defense. We have plenty of running backs who can get the job done. Word is Mike Nolan will be hired as d-coordinator hopefully he fares better then the recent carousel

  12. masturch33f says:

dbroncosfan8210 is off his/her rocker. haha drafting knowshon would be crazy when what we really need is to hope and pray that Taylor Mays is available at the 12th pick. Besides, if we dont catch the injury bug like we did this year, we are gonna have 4 very capable backs in Hillis/Torain/Pittman/Aldridge. moving bly to safety is crazy because he would be worthless against the run….no way can we afford albert haynseworth…and Merriweather is a safety too btw not a corner.

  13. lynch4prez says:

Fire an Offensive Genius for a young offense coach.. I cant help but be a little bit hesitant, i really hope this works out.
As for the draft, the first 4 rounds go something like this:
1-MLB/S – whichever postion has best player available
2 DT/(whichver postion not taken in round 1) -again, best available
3-C- someone who can back-up Weigman for a few years and come in knowing the system
4- S- just on the hope that we can find someone who can be a playmaker

  14. Dr. Doom says:

I think we should model our defense like the Baltimore Ravens’ D. I dont really know what their sheme is (is it a 3-4, a 4-3, or a 4-4?) but it has been one of the best. Also our defensive personnel seems to kind of match Baltimore’s except our D is very young and inconsistent. But if you think about it, we can match our Cover Corners with any receiving corps in the leauge, then we could utilize Moss like a sort of a Joker (For those of you who dont kow what that is… it’s Someone who doesnt line up in a particular spot on the field they just roam around the line of scrimmage looking for the best blitzing “lane”) .Then drop Doom, Thomas, and Ekuban on the line of scrimmage and start Bailey, Williams, and Woodyard at linebacker. Put barret and a First Round Safety and our defensive woes are solved

  15. Dr. Doom says:

At the end there I meant to say start Barret and and A first round saftey!!!

  16. chuntbuck says:

    weakness

  17. Smith's biggest fan says:

leave your cameras at Boston McDaniels, there is no cheating in Denver.

  18. millsdesign says:

Welcome to Bronco Country Coach McDaniels.

“Mile High McDaniels” has a nice ring to it.
He has experience in the Super Bowl, a few of them. Come on Bronco country
lets show this guy the support he deserves. He will be great.
Fresh air, new ideas, and a new look on D is what we need. Our Offense will flourish even more next year!

Get our D back together Mr. Nolan.

    GO BRONCOS!

  19. voteTDtotheHOF says:

I like the hire of McDaniels, also Nolan is a freat addition. Finally someone who has ran a defense that has actually doen something. I do not know about anyone else but watching the LB’s all season was disgusting. Nobody shed blocks everyone got tied up and never did you see plays like Al Wilson busting through the backfield and dropping backs for losses. They were always out of position. DJ is a good linebacker but he only racks up tackles because he is quick, but hardly gets tackles for losses or no gain he just chases backs down, but he can’t stop the run head up. So get some big instinctive backers that can actually play.

  20. BroncosFan973 says:

We need to stick with a 4-3.
We do have enough cap to sign Haynesworth, and even Jonathan Vilma.
We need to draft Taylor Mays. We need to draft a DE in round 2.
We need to get a better D.
    We need to keep Dennison.
We need to support Mile High McDaniels.
I was for hiring Spagnuolo, but we have McDaniels, for better, or worse. We should show him the same support we would for any coach of our choice, if he does well, we do well. But cheating is out of the question, the Broncos are a classy organization that-I hope- would never stoop to cheating.

  21. 15marshallis#1 says:

not sure bout this hire. I think we should have gotten spagnolo or whatever his name is from the giants instead. Mcdaniels will improve our offense, but defense it the more important issue right now. interesested to see if he can get the job done. idk how it is in New England, but here we don’t take losing very well, especially when it leads to missing the playoffs.

  22. brian_schneider says:

First, even if Tebow was going to the draft he would be drafted before our pick, why would we want two young franchise QBs we would be paying Tebow big $$ to ride the pine, I guess now days it’s metal but anyway…

Second, this hire is going to very interesting. I thought we should have gone more of the defensive route myself, but what do I know I’m just a fan right.. the guys that made the hire they’re qualified people..I hope. I sure hope he keeps some of the things that Shanny built up, and hopefully he knows that our D needs some serious attention.

Third, I sure am glad the Chargers got busted up. Rivers looked like a big cry baby that he is the entire game.

  23. Lepsis-Fan78 says:

im glad to see this but i heard were gettin the 49ers D coordinator? y not get some1 from a winning team. Welcome to Denver McDaniels. and when Tebo comes to the NFL i hope he goes to a team he can help not denver we dont need him we need a good vetran like the 1 we have. I agree lets draft ST and D this year our o is set but the zone scheme better not be changed we had a stellar o line last year why mess that up. change the D in any way that will help just dont trade DJ, Champ, Jamie, Barrett, Doom, or Bly i can live without the rest personally

  24. Lepsis-Fan78 says:

broncosfanodd6 – i agree id love to see our D play like the Ravens which means we need an outstanding Safety and i personally see hope in barrett, not only is he fast he wraps up and has great hands, We obviouslt want champ, even DJ id be fine if we trade (if we got some1 Great). but i dont think we need to sacrifise speed for size i think what we need is a D full of people who want to be the best for the team. so they do the basics like wrap up and dont miss tryin to get the big hit. we saw a glimpse of whats possible with the D we have hear and there but the leadership was horrible and i think what we need is some1 whos not afraid to take guys like DJ or Dre out if they start blowin coverage or not wrap up when they have the guy. i mean i saw a bunch of arm tackles and shoulder knudges this year which was better than last years not even touchin the ball carrier. i dunno we could use a lot of help on the front line and LB spots (by that i mean a few key players and coaching the basics not get rid of every1)

  25. WGBronco says:

broncosfan8210, NO WAY IN HELL!!!! Bly is a safety, he doesn’t like to get hit and will not make a hit. Which brings to next point CAN NOT help stop the run. Trade bly and get some power hitters like a Lynch or Al Wilson, Atwater or Dennis SMith. All big hard hitters with speed.

    DRAFT DEFENSE

  26. Just D says:

Am not to crazy for this hire…Got rid of a great offensive coach for another … We should have waited for Rex Ryan of Baltimore. As for draft, we should look at Everette Brown (FSU-DE). We can play both DE/LB like Terrell Suggs. As for RB, Chris Wells…he can share time with hillis and pound the ball..if not..then there is always darren sproles available in free agency

  27. Lepsis-Fan78 says:

yea but 1 thing we dont need to do is keep focussing on youth lol were aready to young lol. i mean were a college team playin in the NFL lol. yea trading him away wouldnt hurt but id rather see us pick up namdi this offseason then pull from the draft.

  28. ColoradoBoy says:

WHAT ABOUT THIS……CHAMP BAILEY SHOULD MOVE TO SAFTEY. HE HAS LOST SOME SPEED AND HAD A BAD HAMMSTRING INJURY. He is the best takler we have, he would get more interceptions back there, and he would play the run beautifully. He’d be our Palamalu in the 3-4!!!!! Our O-line will be great as long as we keep Dennison. Don’t forget about Bobby Turner eithe!

I like the decision in McDaniels. He’ll whip our offensive playmakers into shape. We should at least have another 8-8 season next year. Probably better though.

  29. Lepsis-Fan78 says:

i fully agree with you on champ goin to safety but its a long shot. hes still 1 of the best corners in the league. i mean it would make me really happy cause then we’d have the fastest safety tandum in the league with josh and champ and ur right he can work the run better than almost n e 1 in the league and he can help out with a zone coverage if we need him to. we have josh bell hes lookin pretty good and maybe with a little more help in the offseason we can get nhamdi and trade for 1 of the steelers LB’s or ravens.i do agree id like to see us in the 3-4 and id also love to see more blitzing but i mean the 49ers D was terrible lol not that ours was godly

  30. Cutlercountry08 says:

DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE!! thts all tht needs to be worried about ALL offseason. i mean seriously people do u know how good we were on offense! the only prollem is tht we couldnt score in the redzone nd its nearly impossible wen u have no play action or run-game. i mean we lost 7 rbs. if tatum bell or tht boyd character is running the ball at the goal-line do u honestly think defenses would take us seriously. next year well be the highest scoring offense in the league. plus hillis nd pittman will be back nd there recking balls in the redzone. plus torain is gonna be great if we keep the zone blockin scheme. trust offense is not the issue no rbs in the first 3 rounds. defense all day. lets tryn get haynesworth to bulk up tht defense. get ridda couple people tht are too small nd bring in size on the interior line. linebackers i think were ok. i mean dj williams is still really good i enjoy watching boss baily bcuh he plays wit a lot of intensity unlike alotta people on defense. nd i think wesley woodyard is AWESOME!! same wit larson. so anyone saying we need lbs bad is kinda silly. we need secondary nd interior line. drop blys nd get some youth at cb. get some new safeties in the offseason some hard hitters nd clog up the interior line wit a buncha fat guys. nd well be alright. Definately agree wit the 3-4 defense idea buh only if nolan is hired nd can run it well nd if da players player wit some intensity like da new age ORANGE CRUSH. two things could happen to benefit our team as far as linebacker nd 3-4 defense. in order for it to work u have to have bulk on the line nd speed frm da linebackers so we have 1 of the two elements down. SPEED! all of or linebackers are fast now if we can bulk up the line in free agency we could do 2 things, either move moss to lb nd run the 3-4 maybe move woodyard or larson to mlb keep boss nd williams on the outside, or move up a lil in the draft nd get a mlb, preferbly brandon spikes frm florida if he goes or Ray Manualogu frm usc! Theyd do wonders in a 3-4. tryn stay away frm the big ten u know (laurenitis) thts a pretty slow conference WE NEED SPEED!! im excited to see wuh happens in the draft nd in free agencies.. we already made a big move in gettin mcdaniels nd tryna seal up another in mike nolan. lets do the same for the players!! P.S. I LOVE THE MOVE TO MCDANIELS!!! couldnt be happier

  31. Thebroncoguy says:

Mcdaniels = Perfect Choice!!!! an offensive specialist, with background in defense, he is perfect. We needed a young guy with fresh ideas, wonderful job pat!!!!

  32. 07elway says:

Yeah, I gotta agree with some of you… why fire THE OFFENSIVE GENIUS and then hire someone else with more offense in mind. I’m really shaky on this… we fired the best HC ever for someone with less experience & someone with practically the same thing on their mind. We need help on Defense more than anything else.

Now its become really clear that Bowlen just wants to try to replace Shanny as much as he can. He knows that Shanny was all about offense and so he fires that and hires someone just like it. Change huh?? Yeah okay. I’m not getting this but I wouldn’t want to spoil the moment around here so I’ll be nice…

Again… McDaniels, Welcome to the Mile High City!! But you’ve got the biggest shoes to fill buddy. BIG shoes. VERY BIG shoes. You are so on my radar… my eyes are on you!! You better know what you’re doing, that’s all I can say.

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  33. lynch4prez says:

Just D- tweeners don’t really work out too well in a 4-3 system, more suited to a 3-4.. what we need is a DT that commands a double team nearly every snap.. and i’ll tell all of you one thing, its NOT going to come from a rookie. Name me one DT who has been in the league for 3 years or less who is a big name star and demands doubles all of the time.. i said this all year, Defensive linemen-especially DT’s- take time to develope. If we can sign someone, good for us, if not Robertson and Thomas are still very young and improving.

Colorado Boy + Lepsis Fan- there is absolutely no point in moving Champ to safety, he is still the best at CB and shuts down his side of the field, he missed half the season with a groin injury so of course even when he came back he wasnt going to be at full speed.. plus if you move him to safety now we have a void at CB again.. say what you want, Josh Bell started off decent but near the end he became a huge liability

  34. broncos20 says:

I join the rest in welcoming our new coah McDaniels…

You have a good point Cutlercountyr08, if anyone had brought it up earlier I apologize, about not enough playactions last season…. I hope thats one new aspect that new coach McDaniels brings to the offense. I saw how well Rothlesberger sold that playaction that led to that Heath Miller TD against those sorry @#% chargers…I hope thats what Cutler tries to implement (if he already has it imporves it) to his repertoire this off season..

I’m just happy we can move forward….

  35. monodono says:

I think the playaction fake that Cutler Try’s to do is poor at best. That would be the first thing I woked with Cutler on. SELL SELL SELL !

  36. bronc fan in WA says:

We have so many draft picks that we should trade up to get an extra second round pick, not necessairly an extra first round. It’s obvious that we need defense with our first overall pick. But running back could be an issue now and if we had a second round or possibly third round pick to use on a RB it would be smart. Look what the bears did with Forte and what the Texans did with Slaton

  37. broncosfan8210 says:

Yes we have for halfbacks. who cares the one one in the bunch that is worth anything is the on that played fullback then ccan in like a freak on the halfback side. If you don’t like mareno then fine but you must admit that we need a real rb. Like a clinton portis again. A T.Davis, both super bowl wins was witha running game. And a 3-4. no way the real ravens defense back when nolan ran it was a 4-3.Keep bly at corner ok but there are a lot of hard hitting safties on freeagent list. I’m not crazy I’ve seen Denver on bothside winnig years losing years. I started watching denver in 84 I was 2 and i grind and bared it when we lost to washington,the49ers,the giants. And at first i was pissed off about the firing of alegend. But its time for a change.I say fire all the coaches from last year and start new. Mcdaniels needs to do what mike did for a few years. Call his own damn plays.

  38. Leo3GT says:

So here’s the deal, as long as we keep our blocking scheme, which we will because we are retaining our offensive coordinator, our running game will be solid. Selvin Young is a solid back and no one has even had a chance to see how good Torrain can be. We need to draft Taylor Mays in the first round. Everyone needs to hope and pray that he is still available at the 12th pick. Steve Atwater was our anchor for so many years, and now we have the bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic reincarnation just waiting to join our team. We can bolster our D-Line via free agency (and do a decent job this time around), so if we can sure up our secondary (and we already have one great and one good corner), then we should have a relatively quick fix for our abysmal defense. But it all starts with Taylor Mays. Then hopefully Haynesworth or Peppers or both can give us one of the best D-Lines in football. But aside from fixing our D…this was a great hire, as Jay Cutler could starting winning MVPs like that Manning fella over in Indy. Just saying, if this guy can get Matt “I haven’t started a game since highschool” Cassel to put up huge numbers, imagine what J Cut can do. Could be a big year for the Broncos.

  39. louisianabroncofan says:

Amen broncosfanodd6 shoulda kept foxworth. and the only way we should draft taylor mays is if we pick a MLB in free-agency. i think a MLB is alot more important than a safety. Now if we get a mike peterson from Jacksonville or yea Vilma from the saints the okay go get him. But i really like lauranitis and we can pick up what i think is another impact safety in william moore out of missouri with our first two picks. even if we have to move up to pick up moore.

I do say we should trade bly or put him as a nickel corner and draft a corner in around the third round. Josh bell is not very good in my opinion. what on earth are yall talkin about? hope we have a good talent evaluator somewhere on the staff cuz this is a huge draft.

Its all about the defense for sure. we need to draft defense and pick up defensive free-agents. Mike Nolan is gonna do very well with that defense. I think well enough that we will be very good next year with the offense we have to go with whatever Nolan creates.

Albert Haynesworth is attainable and should be gone after with wreckless abandon. do not let another team outbid us get him whatever it takes. he would make a HUGE difference out there.

I wanna see nolan stick with the 4-3 tho. we do not have the personell to run a 3-4.i couldn’t imagine the broncos in a 3-4 anyway. dont know why exactly just couldn’t.

  40. Leo3GT says:

Our linebackers are not our problem. I agree that we could upgrade in the middle, but right now we are capable. You forget, our entire linebacking corps was hurt this season too. We had our second and third team linebackers in there, sometimes out of position. Lauranitis would be a brutal pick. We need speed, and our starting linebackers are fast right now. Maybe a FA MLB, but no sense in spending a first round pick on one. Our secondary has been our biggest concern (not counting Champ). I think we can get our D-Line in order via free agency and allowing some of our younger guys to mature. But Taylor Mays is a freak that could become a Sean Taylor type player. Can’t pass that up.

  41. dbroncos6 says:

we need to draft on the D LINE, we need to put more pressure on the QB. id also like to see us draft a hard hitting safety to help us out on our secondary. welcome to Denver JOSH McDANIELS!!!
