Marshall to Brew Sports Soup

November 3rd, 2009 - 12:48pm by Gray Caldwell

Brandon Marshall will be spending this Tuesday honing his comedy chops on television.

The receiver is taking over the hosting duties for one episode of Sports Soup — a show that is described as “an irreverant look at the state of sports and the people who play and report on them.”

The show plays clips from the world of sports — even pulling from pre- and post-game shows, press conferences and local media — and the host makes witty comments in between highlights.

The host is typically Matt Iseman, who was actually born in Denver, and the comedian said in a press release that he is honored to have Marshall take over his hosting duties for Tuesday’s show.

“I’m excited to have Brandon Marshall guest host Sports Soup — it’s not every day you get a Pro Bowl receiver filling in for you,” Iseman said. “Plus, he promised to return the favor and let me start the next time the Broncos play the Raiders. He thinks I should be good for at least a couple of touchdowns.”

The episode airs tonight at 8 p.m. MST on VERSUS, which according to the station’s Web site is channel 73 for Comcast subscribers in the Denver area.

Check your local listings and then check out Marshall testing out his comedy on VERSUS tonight!

Man thtas a big blow about Harris!!! We are gonna miss his presence in the O-Line. Hope for a speedy recovery!!

  2. baylinorcrush says:

This blows, just what we need, Marshall messing around some more…. (see my long post last blog, not going to waste my time addressing stupid things like this again).

  3. BeastFromEast92 says:

We have one of the best wide receivers in the game today in Marshall, but we need to use him a lot more, 4 catches for 24 yards against Baltimore,c’mon we have to get him the ball!!!!!!Idon’t think there is a corner in the league that can shut him down, throw it up there and he “WILL “catch it.FEEEEEEEEED THE BEAST!!!!!!!!!!GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!! We can show everybody Monday night that we are still a force in the AFC.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

BFE92, this is not specifically addressed to you, but it’s just amazing how a lot of people have an idea that they think will turn things around for us, specially this week, it’s stuff like you just said about BM, throw him the ball more, others why don’t we run Hillis more, he used to get it done, others why doesn’t Orton throw the long ball more, others why is McD’s so conservative with his play calling for the O, others why isn’t Royal producing like he was last year at WR, well you get the picture… Unfortunately, all that amounts to peanuts if the entire team comes out and under performs the way they did Sunday. I wish it was as simple as do a little of this or a little of that and we’ll be fine, that’s a pipe dream, the reason we won 6 in a row is because they gave it their all as a TEAM, D, O and ST, every freaking 53 of them and that’s what they need to be doing to get on the right track again, not this or that, but a total commitment to all out TEAM work once again. And this article is a blatant example of how some are getting sidetracked. If Marshall wants to be that great he should spend more time with the likes of Rod and less time with this junk. There is a time for everything, and the middle of the season is not the time for this Sports Soup babble. He can wait until the season is over to do it, and it might be a lot sooner than he hopes if he doesn’t straighten out his priorities.

    FEED THE BEAST IS RIGHT!!!!

Unfortunately Orton had no chance. O line failed him and the RBs and Orton isnt the most mobile cuz flacco had mad pressure too, so did Rivers 2 weeks ago. I will agree we need to utilize him more but they did, I liked the quick short screen to Marshall on 4th and 1….better than always running and failing. Give it to the Big Beast to catch and do what he does best…pick up YAC.

Dont think this is that much of a problem Baylin. Its only for 1 day and he prolly recorded it during the bye week or got permission from McD so Im not too worried. If he can get Refrees laughign im sure he will do a good job as a host. The funnier part is the host saying he will start for Marshall next time we play the raiders cuz he is sure he can get a few TDs against em…..BUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNN!!! lol

THE SEASON IS OURS FOR THE TAKING!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

Baylin I sure see your point it takes a total team effort to win.I just hate to see wasted talent.Rod smith is a great role model and a class act.We just got brought back down to earth a little but dosen’t mean we can’t work hard and bounce back.Beating the superbowl champs would be a great start.GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. TheRoyalBeast says:

I agree baylin…we failed in all phases of the game, coaching, offense, defense, special teams….etc. No one person coulda changed the outcome of that game, they just didnt execute as a team. Didnt understand the Hillis talk either

  8. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, I figured with Marshall been the topic, you’d come out sooner or later,LOL. Had to be tough to be around Maryland for this one…. Probably haven’t heard the last of it. I realize McD probably authorized this, but regardless I have a problem with it, some of it directed at McD as I refer to it in my last post on the previous blog. I don’t buy that in the middle of the season stuff like this amounts to nothing. Not quite drinking the Kool-aid on this stuff like you guys are, generation thing I bet.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, I know what you mean about the Hillis talk, he makes two catches for good gains meaning this is the week where he is slowly re-introduced in the O because, as we always said, when Larsen is back, Hillis will be back on O, and nobody even noticed it!!!!

  10. brian_schneider says:

I’d love to see more of all that stuff baylinorcrush was talkin’ about…more Marshall, Royal, Hillis etc. That’s just it, our game plan chances from week to week, heck it probably changes from half to half. In a perfect world everyone would get “their’s.” Since each week is a different team different strengths and weaknesses the game plan changes to account for those things. Which is why some weeks we’ll see more of something or someone that we would the next week. I believe that McD and the gang will be ready for this week. If last week wasn’t an eye-opener I don’t know what is. Whether it be through Marshall, Royal, Hillis, Moreno, etc..we need to be ready to play. Steelers coming off a bye can still be a very tough team. No matter how we do it we better show up to play 60 minutes on Monday.

    Go Broncos!!!!!!

  11. TheRoyalBeast says:

Baylin, lmao, im I that predictable about all things marshall?!? lol, but I hear ya when u say it can be done in the off season, like Dhani Jones (LB Bengals) with his travel channel show. yup larsen was back and made a few key stops on special teams. Hillis messed up early in the season ALOT too so he kinda got yanked a bit lol.

Brian Shneider, I want more wild horse, caught the patriots D off guard and we got yards on every play because of the QB in motion it could either be pass or run so they had to switch to thier safest D play which always gave up yards. Like some said, that game was actually closer than the score showed. no worries. Ask the 07 patriots…dont mean nothing if u lose the big game. Glad we got that monkey off our back.

  12. brian_schneider says:

TRB: You’re right, the Pats had no clue what was going on when we came out in the wildhorse formation. Maybe McDaniels is keepin’ that in his back pocket or working on developing it some more to be used again. That has to be one of the first times the Broncos have used a formation like that. It is nice to get that “will you go undefeated” monkey off our back. Maybe that is what caused us to lose focus? Anyway all I know is Dumervil had a great game the last time we played Pittsburgh, so hopefully he can do the same on Monday.

  13. TheRoyalBeast says:

Shnieder, I hear ya, right now im just looking forward to monday night….gonna be a good one. This is a hell of a stretch for me….out in MD its rare to get so many broncos games in a row on tv…got every game since dallas, steelers is monday night and redskins game is in my backyard so i get to see it.

Baylin, Soo right. My phone was blowing up during the Ravens game. Friends aint let me leave that one down….and i might have talked a lil trash :-P….but its all good tho, hopefully we see em in play offs and get some payback.

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

Does anyone know what Orton’s stats are throwing deep, like 20 yards or more?

  15. baylinorcrush says:

    17 passes over 20 yards and 4 over 40.

  16. Peytonoverthehillis22 says:

I can’t wait til’ Monday night!!!! I am gonna be there screaming my head off!!!! It’s my first live Bronco game in like 6 years (thats way too long). It should be a ferocious atmosphere, and I hope everyone there is ready to GET LOUD and support our boys in a pivitol bounce back game from that horrid loss at Baltimore!!!!!!

    See you monday night!!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  17. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton is a good QB and knows how to win and plays smart. We got to find a way to open up the passing game, short passes and screens don’t always work, especially against quick aggressive defenses like the Ravens and Steelers.I’m sure McD will have a good gameplan though he’s very smart.GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. royalbroncofan1 says:

Hillis was re-introduced on O. It was great to see the two catches made. Spencer Larsen is now healthy so hopefully Hillis might be able to contribute more on O as the season progresses, (or maybe Larsen). I was one that agreed it would be great to have seen him used more in Sundays game plan, but more of a vent than anything (blocking). Coach McDaniels and McCoy have their plan laid out. Hard to believe we’re almost halfway thru the season.(with games played).
Interesting to see Carlton Powell back.. (He’s familiar with the system).

baylinor - do you know if Ryan Torain get p/u by another Team?

  19. royalbroncofan1 says:

Sorry I meant “got” or was p/u by another Team.

  20. BeastFromEast92 says:

We are tied for 21st in the NFL in scoring TDS this year.9 passing-4 rushing-2 special teams.I think it’s bad we only have 4 rushing tds in 7 games, time to get the running game going boys that’ll open up our passing game too.Last year we had good offense and no D, this year we have good D and a sluggish offense time to pick it up.Can’t keep winning games against good teams without scoring TDS………

  21. BeastFromEast92 says:

    GO BRONCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. baylinorcrush says:

rbf1, as far as the NFL is concerned Torain is listed as cut by the Denver Broncos on his current status, so no he is out there available, obviously the health problems with him is a major reason no one is willing to take a chance. I mean not only did he get hurt both years he played with us and only played a few games, but he also had a significant history of injuries at Arizona State. I honestly don’t think his somehow tall and lean body with an upright style of running can last at this level, the only one who he reminds me of style wise and succesfully lasted is Eric Dickerson but he was MUCH bigger and everybody else on D was much smaller back when he played.

  23. royalbroncofan1 says:

thanks baylinor — appreciate the feedback. I did find that a couple of Teams gave him a tryout… Dolphins, Packers but didn’t make the grade. Yes, it was unfortunate circumstances for him.
Did you see former Broncos RB Mike Bell running hard for the Saints last night. He rotated with Thomas and seemed to hit the holes with speed. It’s good to see some former Broncos still playing around the league….as long as they don’t do well against us. Was surprised to see Trevor Pryce with the Ravens the other day… He’s been around for sometime now. Foxworth had the penalty against him, that helped us on the scoring drive. He seemed to give B-Marsh some at times.

  24. royalbroncofan1 says:

Here is a podcast with Brandon Marshall.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest#

  25. royalbroncofan1 says:

    It’s actually fourth paragraph down.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

rbf1, it seems like sometimes you are one blog behind, we’ve been on a new blog for a few hours now that has the same info you refer to above. Maybe it’s about computer speed, memory or DSL vs dial up or I don’t know, but it seems you are usually joining in one blog behind, or maybe I’m just losing my mind due to my age, hahaha.

  27. royalbroncofan1 says:

I see what you’re saying… the blog we’re on is about Sports Soup and that’s one of the topics on the podcast. No, you’re not losing your mind.. I am.. haha.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

rbf1, no, I’m talking the new blog is about the additions to the practice quad, just like in your podcast. It’s titled addition to the ps or something, you’ll see, you’ll eventually get it. LOL. We will both lose it eventually (our mind) LOL.

  29. baylinorcrush says:

Ball, Powell added to the practice squad, that’s the name of the blog we’ve been on over three hours, no joke, dead serious here. LOL

  30. baylinorcrush says:

30 responses already, you get the drift now? LOL.

  31. royalbroncofan1 says:

Ok I see what you’re saying ! duh!! I need to rewrite this as fourth article down….titled - “Podcast: Marshall on relationship with McDaniels”. If you click on the underlined “talks about his relationship” will take you to podcast link. He talks about Sports Soup and Orton as well. Sorry– didn’t mean to throw you off. Didn’t realize fourth paragraph was about Ball and Powell.

  32. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I watch Mountain West college football and Versus broadcasts a lot of their games but I was watching NBA tonight (GO MAVS) so I didn’t watch this. We’ll be fine against the Steelers. Marshall was just having a little fun, but he’ll dominate the pansy Pittsburgh secondary. GO BRONCOS!!!

  33. baylinorcrush says:

“Dominate against the pansy Pittsburgh secondary”, where did I hear that? it seems like I heard that somewhere… Yeah, it was like week and right here, that’s what we all said about the Ravens secondary, myself included come to think of it! LOL.
