The Broncos made it 17-0 as Peyton Manning and Eric Decker connected on their second touchdown pass in the first quarter.
The drive started in San Francisco territory after Wesley Woodyard recovered a fumble on the 25-yard line. Willis McGahee ran it twice to pick up 12 yards and then Manning hit Brandon Stokley for 7 yards to get down to the 5-yard line. That set up the Manning-to-Decker 5-yard touchdown.
The Broncos then attempted an onside kick and recovered it, but a penalty gave San Francisco possession at the Denver 44-yard line. On the 49ers’ first play of the drive, quarterback Alex Smith hit tight end Vernon Davis for a 44-yard touchdown, making the score 17-7.
Through three drives, Manning is 10-of-12 passing for 122 yards, two touchdowns and a 148.6 rating. Caleb Hanie checks in for him as the Broncos take over the ball.
