Former Broncos safety, now FOX broadcaster John Lynch was sitting in a conference room at Dove Valley waiting to speak with quarterback Peyton Manning as part of his preparations for his broadcast of Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay, when he received some unexpected news.
Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Saccomano, a friend of Lynch from their time spent together in the Broncos organization, walked in and happily informed him that he is one of 27 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“He made me a little nervous because he said, ‘Congratulations — but let me check,” Lynch laughed. “And he backtracked a little bit. But then he brought the sheet in (to prove it), and it’s all good.”
Saccomano didn’t mean to make Lynch nervous, but the pair laughed about it afterwards.
“I had looked at it and saw his name, so I immediately ran in and told him,” said Saccomano, a part of the Broncos for more than three decades. “And then I joked with him, and said I hope It wasn’t John something else that started with an L. And then I ran and got the full list and gave it to him.”
Lynch said he was humbled by the news, and will cherish the accomplishment as he waits for the Selection Committee to narrow the group down to 15 in January. As Lynch said, it’s out of his control.
“My job interview was the 15 years I played,” Lynch said. “Now, you sit back and you’re humbled that you are in the company of these names.”

Hey Kod! It happened in 98 for sure. Lol
I thought maybe 05, but loss 3 of the 3 that year was at KC.
Wasn’t that the game where QB Van Pelt played and ran one TD in for a score!
That was a great run in ’05 & sweeter when Broncos gave Pats their 1st playoff loss with TB at QB.
Then Steelers blew us out in – AFC championship. Ironically we played same Teams in playoffs last season but in reverse order.
My official score
Denver 31
tampa 13
This is terrible.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher this morning shot and killed his girlfriend before going to Arrowhead Stadium and fatally shooting himself as team personnel tried to stop him, police said.
Police Capt. David Lindaman said Belcher, 25, and his girlfriend, 22, got into an argument around 7 a.m. at their home in the 5400 block of Crysler Avenue in Kansas City. Around 7:50 a.m., Lindaman said, Belcher shot his girlfriend multiple times. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Lindaman said Belcher’s mother, who was visiting the couple and their 3-month-old daughter, witnessed the shooting and was being interviewed by police.
Belcher left the scene on Crysler and went to the Chiefs practice facility at Arrowhead, police said.
Police were called to the stadium around 8:10 a.m. When Belcher arrived there he encountered General Manager Scott Pioli, Coach Romeo Crennel and other team personnel. Police said Chiefs staff attempted to keep Belcher from committing additional acts of violence. When police arrived, they heard a gunshot and found that Belcher had shot himself in the head.
The Chiefs released the following statement: “We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorites in their investigation.”
So young… Prayers to all involved…
He must of really hated Pioli and Crennel to shoot himself right in front of them, something they will now have to deal with the rest of their lives, all of this is horrible.
I had to read the headline twice on ESPN… Heatbreaking story… My Dad’s first cousin is the Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Chiefs (Mike Clark), I hope he didn’t have to see it also
‘Before turning the gun on himself, the player thanked Pioli and Crennel for all they had done for him’, Snapp said.
This makes it sound as though he had much love for both Crennel and Pioli… No sense will ever be made of what happened in KC today… only questions about a senseless trajedy
I’m sure Pioli and Crennel are thankful for that…. what a sick individual.
Too bad the league can’t look after these problems the way they can about concussions, I’d take a concussion over such mental illness anytime.
Bay, It’s my assumption that the link between Concussions and Mental Illness will kill the game of NFL Football as we know it… I’m not sure if you got a chance to read the article I posted a link too about the League and the Multi-Billion dollar pending lawsuit, but if they charge the league with all that they say they can the league will have no choice to fold as it will be virtually impossible to have insurance that will cover such an activity…
the article was very in depth and even addressed how the league is trying to pass player safety issues off on individual teams, so if the report is true and the sides are fracturing already as to how they will defend themselves it spells the beginning of the end.
So happy he didn’t take it out on the baby though, the only good thing in all of that. RIP once again, two days in a row we are circled by death.
assumption/assertion (hate to make an ass out of us both!)
Attorneys and their lawsuits are destroying the world we know in a multitude of ways, specially in this country, and that’s why:
Do you know what you call 50 attorneys at the bottom of the ocean?
A good start.
Agreed… Bay, you are a Bronco Brother, and even though we don’t see eye to eye on most things I am glad to have you as member of our family
LONG LIVE THE ORANGE AND BLUE
the caveat to that is, if people weren’t so helpless in life and sue happy there would be little need for lawyers… but when the government comes knocking to take you possessions after the dollar is changed a good lawyer will be your only hope!!!
That felt better than other posts, thank you.
But I feel just like a Bronco fan, I have enough family to deal with as is, haha.
DB most certainly would know what I mean…
Anyhow, busy day today, got to get ready for a couple of x-mas parties, jolly time of the year again, all those deaths set aside…
My wife’s father cxommitted suicide. The hardest thing to admit is that there was absolutely nothing you could have done about it. If a person really wants to end it all, they will do it no matter what counciling, intervention efforts or whatever is done by those around him. I say this from my wife’s experience. I’m sure some of you will consider this unfeeling. I do feel a great sorrow for those left behind who’s life has been forever drastically changed and will wreak havoc on their minds.
