Former Broncos safety, now FOX broadcaster John Lynch was sitting in a conference room at Dove Valley waiting to speak with quarterback Peyton Manning as part of his preparations for his broadcast of Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay, when he received some unexpected news.
Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Saccomano, a friend of Lynch from their time spent together in the Broncos organization, walked in and happily informed him that he is one of 27 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“He made me a little nervous because he said, ‘Congratulations — but let me check,” Lynch laughed. “And he backtracked a little bit. But then he brought the sheet in (to prove it), and it’s all good.”
Saccomano didn’t mean to make Lynch nervous, but the pair laughed about it afterwards.
“I had looked at it and saw his name, so I immediately ran in and told him,” said Saccomano, a part of the Broncos for more than three decades. “And then I joked with him, and said I hope It wasn’t John something else that started with an L. And then I ran and got the full list and gave it to him.”
Lynch said he was humbled by the news, and will cherish the accomplishment as he waits for the Selection Committee to narrow the group down to 15 in January. As Lynch said, it’s out of his control.
“My job interview was the 15 years I played,” Lynch said. “Now, you sit back and you’re humbled that you are in the company of these names.”

Also the Broncos have 3 other semi finalists in 27 players that made the list: Steve Atwater, Karl Mecklenburgh, and Terrell Davis.
Congrats to all 4… About time, too…
Really pulling for Meck and Atwater especially, they deserve to represent the Broncos in HOF, where there are way too few Broncos presently.
Only three!!! Travesty!!!
Hi Ticat06, I heard about the shooting in Casper. What is the world coming to?
Is anybody watching the Pac 12 Championship? These games usually showcase several pro level players…
I wonder to what degree the current season might influence the voting. TD definitely belongs in the hall. His career may have been short but few RBs in history have dominated the league like td did in his heyday.
Hey BT the fam is good thanks for asking.
So today I went to help a friend move and her dad brought the Uhal well im decker out in a Denver jacket and hat. He gets out of the Uhal in Raiders hat and jersey. I ended up having to ride in the Uhal with him…..That was a long quiet ride then after we get to her new place he says “I had to be quiet and can talk any smack…..your team is so much better than my Raiders” LMAO
Anyone else hear about what Pop did with the Spurs last night? He sent home Duncan Parker and GInolbli. Didnt play them didnt even have them at the game. Stern was so pissed because they played the Heat on a nationally televised game. The Spurs have been fined 250K which to me is a complete sham. Its one of the worst things in all sports. SPurs played 5 games in 6 days (all on road I believe) and were at the Heat. He was worried about fatigue so was resting them. Why wernt the Heat fined when they did it three games last year towards the end when the sent Bosh Wade and James home after they had the 1st seed locked? (None of those games televised) why didnt the Hornets and Bobcats get in trouble when they did it to get the first pick? THis is a complete sham and has just ruined the game of basketball for me.
AB… best part of that story is the 9 suited players for the Spurs pushed the Heat starters to the final minute!!! I love the move by Pop
So it seamed stupid the commish got angry cause it was still a great game!
TGIF Broncos Country!!!
BT I wanted the Spurs to win so bad!!! Stern wouldve been even more mad I think!
AB – you’d never see that happen in the NHL.. Them boys get sewn up after getting cut open, and get back on the ice!
Congrats on the littles ones btw.
*little ones
OT lol I dont watch hockey so I dont know. Im have no doubt its true.
And thanks
Yeah, welcome to fatherhood, and a double whammy I heard, haha.
Happy for Lynch but if he goes it will probably be as a Buccaneer I would imagine, kind of a weird kind of woodoo that it’s announced in the week of a Bronco-Bucs match up, his head must be spinning.
The take on the Spurs sitting players I heard today that made sense to me, went something like this:
“We all have things in life we don’t want to do, such as going to the in-laws during the Holidays, or attending a wedding for a distant relative, but we must show up anyways. Playing the defending world champs on national TV, is just one of those things.”
First time I noticed Stokley being questionable for the game. I guess this is as good a game for him to sit out since we need to hit them deep where they are weakest.
OT I get that but for resting his players the Spurs shouldnt be fined for it.
Thanks Bay. Yes a double whammy. Boy and Girl. Got one of each on the first try (well not so much try since we wernt trying LOL)
And the ones who try so hard like one of my daughters can’t get any luck at all… there is no justice in this mad world, it’s a crap shoot, LOL.
Yes it is Bay. Defiantly a crap shoot.
I think Lynch goes in as a Bucc. He was drafted by them, played 10 years there, and got a ring in TB. Game. Set. Match. IMO.
Agreed 100% OT.
came across an interesting take on the bucs “#1″ rush defense. Their pass defense is so bad that teams just throw on them. 3rd and 5 against them. Do you pass on a horrible secondary and pass rush, or run against a respectable run defense? It’s obvious.
That accounts for the low rushing numbers against them. You can bet that if they had a better pass defense people would be trying to rush against them more often.
grats on the kids by the way. Resisting the urge to make an idiocracy reference.
Oh, I guess I failed to resist that urge. Darn.

Here’s the updated info. Not a shooting per se, not guns anyway. Cross bow. Scary stuff. But I’m okay. We had a lock down today because the college is less than a mile from the school. Love triangle. A lady was having an affair with a teacher and was married and her husband went crazy, stabbed her with an arrow? Not sure, then went to the college and killed the teacher and himself in front of the kids. This is all rumors of course, but that’s what I knw.
Anyone see the article in the DP about Wolfe and Martin in regards to the draft? Interesting read. I’m personally happy with Wolfe, as I think he’s only going to get bigger and stronger. We can’t forget how much us fans were pounding the table for a DT (for two years) and if we drafted a RB in the 1st round, people would’ve been up in arms IMO.
AB… If Goodell fined the Patriots for sitting Brady…. Can you imagine?
I still think we could have gotten Martin and Wolfe. Leave osweiler for someone else or get him in the 6th round if he is still available.
Was a huge mistake for the front office IMO. Should have drafted Martin when he was in our lap.
Lots of life and death talk on the blogs today. Weird.
I like Martin, but I’m not sold yet. I am still mad at Elway for not getting him when we could. He thought he’d still be there in the second round.
Broncos Country
Hello from the FTR family. And I hope everyone is having a great Holiday season. I am sure everyone has read the confusing read on how we got Derek Wolfe and cornerback Omar Bolden. From the DP. Here is a copy and paste:
The Broncos’ No. 25 pick was first swapped to the New England Patriots for the No. 31 and 126 picks; then Denver traded its freshly received No. 31 and 126 picks to Tampa Bay for No. 36 and No. 101.
When the Broncos were finished with their draft-board gymnastics they wound up with defensive tackle Derek Wolfe and cornerback Omar Bolden. New England wound up with linebacker Dont’a Hightower. Tampa Bay wound up with Martin.
IMO we won the chess game even as good as Martin is doing. I mean common man, we got Wolfe, Bolden, Hillman. I would bring up McD’s draft but that’s in the past and painful!!
What do you guys think now that it’s playing out?
Friday night posts!!

You beat me to it before I refreshed. I am happy!

Unfortunately we won’t know what we have in Osweiler for awhile, but it’s an investment I can live with, given the value placed on the QB position in today’s game. I don’t think Wolfe would have fallen to our second pick, as he seemed to be a player a few teams had an eye on. The player I must question at this early stage is Hillman. The kid is so young, and has plenty of time, but I’m just not sold yet.
It was curious how Xanders was let go so soon after the draft. My theory was the return on the trades when we traded back, as we should have gotten more. That is definitely a GM’s job to work out the particulars in a trade. Of course, we’ll never know.
No worries FTR, I love the draft!
What people forget or dont know is that multiple teams were wanting Wolfe right around where we took him. Add that teams were trying trade ahead of Denver when we took Brock to get him makes me highly doubt he wouldve been there in the 6th round.
Yes we couldve had Martin. However at that time we didnt need a main RB for this year. And even if we did can anyone guarantee in Denver he would have the production he has had in Tampa? No you cant. Im sure he wouldve still been successful. Just saying where you go can play on how well you do. Anyways at the time we needed a DL. We got that in Wolfe. Kid has been having a very good year. Maybe not filling up the stat sheet. But multiple times has has pulled the OT and OG leaving Miller to a TE. On double teams Wolfe still manages to push the pocket and the QB to Doom or Miller. Plus he has been a help to stopping the run.
None of the less, it’s very sad!
At this point I am unwilling to give up Wolfe for Martin. Wolfe has been a big part of stopping the run this year and without him at his position we aren’t as good at it. Lets see the two go head to head Sunday, but I’m pretty sure I’m unwilling to give Wolfe up! LOL
I know, Strand. Today has been a bad day.
I heard the news on 850 KOA.
It made national news apparently. Just what I wanted, Casper, Wyoming in the news due to a homicide with a crossbow. ;(
There’s also no way Martin would’ve sneaked past the Giants, who ended up taking David Wilson, who has barely seen the field. Wolfe just strikes me as a tough as nails, no nonsense, come to work everyday, and leave it all on the field type of player. I hope we double down, and draft another Wolfe-type DL next draft!
II Timothy 3; 2
OT, all I know is that Wolfe cannot WAIT to play the Ravens. They wanted him and then skipped him and I hope he makes them pay!!! LOL
Von Miller admitted he has cut the Wolfe off and got the sack in the heat of the game not on porpose. And Wolfe said with so much talent like Von and Doom he is glad he has 3 sacks!! LOL WHOOO HA Got to love having so many pass rushers.
FTR
I say air the football. These CB’s are very young and inexperienced.
Lol FTR that is funny!!!
I read that also FTR in the DP this morning. Lots of good info this morning in the Post.
