Watch the press conference live here.
4:40 p.m. MST: So, sitting in the team meeting room for the press conference announcing Josh McDaniels as the new Denver Broncos Head Coach, it seems like it might even be a little bit more of a circus than the last time the media was gathered here.
The room is pretty crowded, and there are media members here that even our acclaimed media relations intern Brad Gee doesn’t recognize. That shows the wide-spread interest in the event.
4:49 p.m. MST: I count about 25 video cameras and about a dozen still photographers. Almost every seat is full in the meeting room, and Broncos staff members are lining the walls — so far it’s mostly the PR staff.
We’re about 10 minutes away from the conference.
4:55 p.m. MST: Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos and Strength and Conditioning Coach Rich Tuten have arrived, and Vice President of Football Operations/Player Personnel Jim Goodman and Assistant General Managers Jeff Goodman and Brian Xanders are in the room as well.
The room is growing silent as the press conference should begin shortly — the crowd is still growing as more Broncos staff members make their way into the meeting room.
5:00 p.m. MST: Vice President of Public Relations Jim Saccomano is addressing the crowd — he says President and CEO Pat Bowlen will address the crowd first, followed by new Head Coach Josh McDaniels.
The owner and coach have just walked into the room.
5:01 p.m. MST: “I’m ecstatic, I’m excited, I’m ready to introduce the new coach of the Denver Broncos, Josh McDaniels,” Bowlen says and gives McDaniels a handshake.
“I’m excited and looking forward very much to the opportunity to lead this team,” McDaniels says.
5:04 p.m. MST: McDaniels thanks a number of people, including Bill Belichick, who he says provided his foundation in the National Football League.
“This is an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often. I know I’m coming into a place where winning is the most important thing. That’s been very clear to me during this process.”
“I want this team to be tough, smart and prepared to play well under pressure. The evaluation process of how to get this team to that point is going to start today and it’s going to be ongoing. Everybody here in this organization is going to be held accountable to do their job — their piece of the puzzle to make this team a competitor for a championship every season.”
5:05 p.m. MST: McDaniels is now taking questions.
“My age has never been a factor, and it never will be a factor. It’s about performance…It’s about doing your job to the best of your ability and that’s what I’m going to do.”
“When the job came open, certainly it was something I had to look at very seriously — it’s a great place with a great history and a great tradition. The culture is about winning — you don’t have to create it.”
5:06 p.m. MST: “This is definitely a dream come true to have an opportunity to lead this team and this organization is something I couldn’t imagine would come up, but once it did it was certainly something I had to jump at.”
5:07 p.m. MST: “Not making the playoffs allowed me to get into this process right away as soon as the season ended. I’ve spent a lot of time and preparation over the last year getting myself more ready to go in case this opportunity did present itself … I feel the timing is right.”
McDaniels says he has not spoken with Jay Cutler, but he will shortly. “There’s a lot of people I would like to reach out to shortly — players, coaches here on the staff.”
On if he has thought about assistant coaches: “There are some people that I’ve spoken with — the process today and tomorrow will start picking up.”
5:10 p.m. MST: McDaniels is asked about working under Nick Saban, Bill Belichick and Charlie Weiss, and how his style differs from theirs: “I hope I’ve taken all the good things from them. The way I coach and the way I try to lead is by being more prepared than everybody else. Trying to do that on a daily basis. Because I think that’s what players respond to.”
On if he’s a tough coach like those three: “At times. When it has to happen, of course. I don’t think you do it unnecessarily, but I like to believe I’m a teacher. I believe that I can communicate — that’s a very important word for me. When you need to get your hands dirty in this game, you’ve got to be willing to do it, and I thinnk the players respond to that.”
5:12 p.m. MST: On achieving his dream and growing up in Canton, Ohio: “It’s been a long road with a lot of great influences for me. When that conversation took place, I was very eager to accept that. Growing up in Canton is a very important part of my life. Football is next to nothing. The people in Canton love this game. They cherish the weekend that they really get to shine in August. I’ve been going to two-a-days since I was five years old. I know it sounds silly since I’m 32, but for 27 years I’ve been going to practices in August until now.”
5:14 p.m. MST: On how he will shore up the defense: “I’ve coached offense in the past, but I’m a football coach that has been built to understand defense. That’s where I learned my foundation. Defense is important to how we will attack people offensively. So as much as I can say I’m proud ot have worked with the offense the past four or five years, I’m a football coach and I want the opportunity to affect the kicking game, the offense and the defense — all phases of the game…There are areas where this team can improve offensively, defensively and in the kicking game…We’re going to evaluate the people, we’re going to evaluate the scheme and we’re going to evaluate the coaches.”
“As somebody who has played against this team quite a few times in the past few years, the scheme has changed here a few times. We want to bring some consistency to that and make sure that we try to improve whatever that system and that scheme is from day one.”
5:15 p.m. MST: McDaniels says that he will be the play-caller on offense.
5:16 p.m. MST: On if he is a little more approachable with the fans and media than Belichick and Saban: “I try to focus on all the positive things that those people have given me the opportunity to see. But I think you’ll certainly see me bring a little bit of a different vibe. I’m going to have a lot of energy. I can smile. I think there are some things that people will like and get used to, but I think the personality of the coach comes through over time. You’ll get an opportunity to see how I differ from them — it’s hard to describe that right here.”
5:19 p.m. MST: On his father, growing up in a football family: “He’s very proud. I’m sure he’s very, very proud today. My father, I’ve had the most opportunity to witness him, because I started very young. I’ve had more years around him obviously than any of those other coaches I’ve mentioned…I think the one thing about my father that I know that I do take every day into this job is his passion. There’s nothing about this game that’s unimportant to him, and I would say that’s true about myself. That’s how I’ll approach this job every day, and I think everyone will see that show through.”
5:22 p.m. MST: On evaluating players in house: “I think that’s the first place that you want to start — evaluate what you have here.”
“I haven’t had the opportunity to sit at my desk yet, but I’ll be looking forward to that.”
On the team: “This is a team that won eight games, and I think any time you win eight games and fall short of your goals and your expectations, there’s a lot that needs to be improved.”
On if he will retain any of last season’s assistant coaches: “I don’t know most of them. I have a relationship with one or two of them, cordially, but I haven’t had the opportunity to work with them…I think that’s a decision that will be made over the next couple days.”
On Jay Cutler: “Jay’s very talented. I’ve had the opportunity to watch him a number of times on film and once in person this year. He’s got a lot of ability. He’s a very intelligent person, very intelligent player, does a lot of things well, and I think Jay’s going to enjoy playing in this system, this offense. It’s very quarterback friendly once you get accustomed to using all the tools…I can’t wait to get started working with him.”
5:25 p.m. MST: McDaniels says he’s looking forward to joining an organization that’s very similar to the one he left — it’s all about winning.
On if his age is helpful: “I’ve coached older players, I’ve coached younger players — I don’t think age is a factor. What they care about is what I’m saying, and if it’s going to help them win. That’s the most important thing to me and it’s the most important thing to the players.”
5:27 p.m. MST: On what he thought when he saw the Broncos on the schedule as an opponent: “A hard team to beat…every time you see their name on the schedule, you know it’s going to be a 60-minute game, they’re going to be well-prepared, they’ve got good players and it’s going to be a dogfight. I’m excited to be on the other side of that now.”
On facing the Patriots in the 2009 season: “That will be great,” he says with a sheepish smile. “I don’t think any coach is afraid to go coach against a team he was a part of for a long time. That will be exciting for me…It’s not about that, I just think they’re a competitive team and we’ll look forward to the challenge.”
McDaniels says the process of building a staff has begun already, and he would hope that it would be sooner rather than later, but it will take however long it takes to build a successful staff. He says he has not talked with Dom Capers yet, not that he wouldn’t, and he has talked to Mike Nolan, though nothing is official.
5:30 p.m. MST: On the offensive talent on the Broncos: “The list goes on and on — they’ve got a lot of talent. I think the biggest thing is to get the players to understand the system that we’re going to utilize this year, and to have a great spring. That’s the goal here, to accomplish a lot between spring camps and training camp. That’s the most exciting thing to me.”
5:32 p.m. MST: McDaniels talks about working closely with personnel in New England and coaching both offense and defense.
“The thing that I’m most excited about is that I can affect more than just the offense.”
5:33 p.m. MST: On what weaknesses he saw on the Broncos when he was studying film on the other side this season: “Certain games it’s going to be about the scheme, certain games maybe you can pick on a player. I’m not going to stand up here and say what our plan was, but we had success there and I’m glad we did then, but now I hope to reverse that trend.”
On if he will wear a hoodie on the sideline: (Laughs) “Absolutely. As a matter of fact, I can’t wait to see my hoodie.”
5:34 p.m. MST: McDaniels is at the podium with his wife posing for a few pictures as the press conference comes to a close.
DenverBroncos.com will have more coverage coming later this evening.

this is what we needed, a new era
07elway: That might be your shortest post ever. Hang in there…just ribbing a little.
Who knows what the future will bring? All we can do is wait and see…..and hope. I don’t really understand this hire, with Bolen saying it was time for this team to head in a new direction. I was thinking real change would put the focus on defense. One of the first remarks by the new coach is about changing the offense?? I’m not saying the offense couldn’t use a tweek or two but they were 2nd best in the NFL. I would have rather heard any new head coach address the obvious problems on this team.
I’m glad he sounds confident but talk is cheap. Only too soon it will be time for him to put up or shut up and I hope like all of you he turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to the Denver Broncos. Hope he is wise for his years but at this point in time I’m very concerned…
Hope the information keeps us informed here in Broncoland, the next week or two should be very interesting.
raidrhadr – haha, I’m a hangin’.
But I’ve had shorter posts… try this.
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!
I think that it was time for a change in the head coaching position. I think Shany did a great job all the times that he was here and i was sad to see him go. I am tired of seeing the negativity everywhere on this site, why dont people try to be a little more positive!!! I do not know how good of a coach McDaniels will be but i am willing to give him a chance!!! I hope for the best.
Go Broncos!!!!
denverpost.com has reported that Mike Nolan said he will be the DC and that there waitin on a contract to be worked out
I have a feeling that he is going to implament a shotgun type of offense and we aren’t going to see the running game like we used to have. so for everyone that cryed for the running game, don’t move that box of tissues away to far cause i think your gonna need it. I have a really bad feeling that he is gonna get rid of some players that not only are a good fit for the broncos but ones the fans love. i think he will place a 3-4 base defense. that is just what he is used to and thats what alot of the teams are going to. I just feel like we need to stick to our roots and keep the 4-3 but send more blitz’s. As far as Cutler goes i don’t think he is in favre of this hire i think if he had his choice of coaches he would have went with a D coach because he has such a relationship with bates. we can all say good bye to the good old days broncos with play actions and a solid running game cause here comes the pass heavy lets be like new england game. I am not saying i am against this but i am not saying i am for this hire. Payton Hillis i loved your first year here and i am sorry to see you go, i have a feeling and i hope i am wrong on this feeling but i think we are gonna start a speed back from the draft and since we are more then likly moving to a shot gun offense mcdaniels won’t have much need for a FB as great as you are…. I really hope i am wrong.. I love my and our Denver Broncos and i hope the offense stays intact and we only make minor moves and the D starts certain people with maybe an addition or two via the draft and free agencies. Please Josh Mcdaniels i ask you not just as a fan but as a football fanatic keep our O togeather and use the play action cause that is what kind of players we have and don’t trade away Champ, DJ, Doom, or any of the rookie linebackers who should start on this team instead of webster and boss. LETS GO BRONCOS….
One more thing i hope this doesn’t turn into a Michigan Wolverines move by getting the hot name coach to just get a coach that doesn’t seem to care about the fans
ok so this is for anyone bad mouthing da new coach .. Quit B*%tchin.. u havent even seen him in a bronco t-shirt nd headseat yet. give him a break. nd if ur gonna base ur thoughts nd comments offa credentials nd legacy nd say tht we were better off gettin rex ryan or steve spagnoula. which of those dudes help there team go 16-0 nd how many of them have 3 super bowl rings. how bout u guys shut ur mouths nd give the guy a chance. I love da decision! he nd cutler will probably be the next best thing to the shanahan-elway relationship. Lets get 12 yrs of mcdaniels-cutler! Maybe win a couple super bowl rings ya kno!
I thought he sounded great in the press conference. I’m pumped. But I hope he’s kidding about the hoody. I say the head coach should wear a suit on the sideline, Nolan style.
so since were tlkn defense!!
THis years draft… 3 names
Ray Manalouga, Malcolm Jenkins, Taylor Mays?
Wuhda u guys think ?
o nd p.s. i know we have tons of fire power on offense, buh would anybody like the idea of da broncos snatching up percy harvin if hes still on the board! the guys is a one man highlight real.
Lemme know wuhcha think
lol yea michigan fans yall can keep rich lol p.s im from west virginia lol, but any who really were beatin a dead horse here, we need something new to talk about, what’s done is done, we really can’t say much more till the offseason kicks in, were all denver fans we all want the same thingjust everyone looks at things different, lets give the guy a chance and lets see what he can do, just because he runs a shotgun doesn’t mean we have to pass every play, im sure he’ll get the running game in there, he knows denver runs first and we have one of if not the best runnin back coaches, so why not mix them together and get us some wins,
ray good pick taylor mays better be our pick i heard he is a great saftey like the next ed reed or something like that and percy was solid but i think he needs some weight to him and more often then not what happens to those highlight reels in the nfl, they pretty much are average cause guess what everyone in the nfl is as fast or faster then your but then again he maybe great ya never know.
really…any of the top USC defenders would be nice but I really think it will be Taylor Mays. Look at film on this guy if you get a chance. They were saying it was a dirty hit on that Penn State guy but it looked like he led with his shoulder to me. Another Ronnie Lott? Dont forget about the free agents. There are many. Check this link out. Copy and paste it into your browser and check out the defensive UFAs.
http://www.footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html
I personally think the broncos made the right decision, everyone that is uncomfortable with the pick is just a little bit scared of change. Mickey “D” is ready for the grand stage of head coach. Just look at what he has helped Tom, and Matt accomplish. What else could you ask for and he is bringing in with him Mr. Nolan who also has HC experience, that will spearhead DC. Everything happens for a reason, and the reason he turned down 2HC opportunities was for this exact reason……he was destine to come to denver.
Do not forget that he is not just an offensive coach he has experience in working with defense to. he has worked with one of the best organizations in the league for the last couple of years, and thee most successful. It seems as if the team has already taken to him from what the player have already said about having him in denver, i can’t wait to see how good our team comes out this season.
denver lives again
I’m sorry, but the people who is still holding on to shanny needs to wake up & reason with the facts. Yes shanny won us 2 SB, but he did it with a great O & an ok D. Now what happens when elway retires, TD leaves, Sharpe is gone ur Defense goes from ok to nothing. He tries to rebuild through free agency by getting over the hill none productive players & than over pays them like D. Gardner, Niko kou, K.Colbert, the entire cle brown D my god. Like Sharpe said shanny made poor choices down the line, he said u can’t rebuild through free agency u have to do it through the draft. And shanny fail at that also (check it out yourself espn.com, nfl, near the bottom click 1st rd draft picks since 1967). shanny came in 95 right, he drafted in 96 john mobley, 97 trevor pryce, 98 MARCUS NASH, 99 al wilson, 00 DELTHA O’NEAL, 01 WILLIE MIDDLEBROOKS, 02 ASHLEY LELIE, 03 GEORGE FOSTER. Now ask yourself is any of these players quality except pryce & wilson. He couldn’t be a GM & HC he wasn’t good at picking personel & putting a good Defense together, than his play calling started to get questionable it was way over due. Last year i seen that we needed to sure up that D-line because we got ran over by everybody, what did he do draft 1 DT. He neglected the Defense for to long. look at the teams who are in it GOOD OFFENSE – GREAT D I Welcome josh to the team & hope he sure’s up that defense to make us balance & unstopable – HIS play calling is BRilliant for sure LET SHANNY GO HE HAD HIS TIME
I just hope we dont lose our running game and o-line effectivness: sure our running game this year sucked but in years past it has been what carried this team. Plus, the O-line is built for the zone blocking scheme: lighter, more athletic linemen. I hope he doesnt just go crazy and start selling off our major players. All in all though, great hire and im looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Denver.
It always comes out sooner or later with you so called bandwagon “fans” like peterg…
“Fans in K.C., Oakland, and S.D. are laughing at us right now. And J-ville fans have spent all day rubbing it in my face how stupid Pat is being. You live in Denver where fans are in la-la land. I live in Jax where I have to deal with the real world and opposing fans.”
BOO HOO!!! It’s times like those that we need REAL fans to represent our Team. I’m guessing you fell short on that task. You probably agreed with them just to take their focus off of you, didn’t you?
And if la-la land means everyone there supports the Broncos NO MATTER WHAT, then I’m moving THERE!!! Opposing fans ALWAYS try getting into each other’s heads, some just can’t take the heat. When we’re winning, you won’t shut up about how AWESOME we are, then when things are down, you whine about getting heckled by the opposition.
Go Broncos ’09
Mike Nolan is going to be hired for D-Coor. looks like we are switching to a 3-4 Defense. Say bye, bye to alot of players
I love Shanny and will always think he is a great coach. What happened with him is now a mute point. I am excited about the new coaches and the future of this team. No matter what some people say, there is A LOT of talent on this team and I believe this team will be very competitive right away. Bowlen will not accept anything less and I think it shows in his decision.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!
12… the number 12. Let’s just hope it’s our new favorite number. Last year we drafted the best O-lineman from the draft that was great during the season at the number 12 spot. This year we do the same, as well has getting our 12th head coach of the franchise. We also would like our defense to play like there are 12 men on the field… Well… We’ll see.
I also am hoping that our offense stays in tact. I’m sure this young coach is not stupid, or he would not be in the NFL, yet alone be part of one of the best franchises in NFL History. (Patriots). I’m sure he will bring a fresh, winning attitude to the Broncos. I’m sure Mr. Mac will not dismantle the offensive staff, nor the offense as a whole. Anyone could see that our offense was not the problem last season, in fact it’s loaded with talent, provided our RB’s can stay healthy. If Mac re-builds the offense, it will be done slowly and over time.
The defense on the other hand? I watched the games this weekend and would love to see a defense as good as the Steelers, Eagles, Ravens and/or the Cardinals. I feel as though a new d-coordinator and some (Big) new talent on the D-line, tweak the DB’s and the Broncos will be poised to do great things. During draft day there needs to be a major focus on defense. Offense is set!
Mr. Mac, have fun studying film and evaluating YOUR TEAM. How exciting this must be for you. I am 34 and would love to be in your shoes. What a challenge, yet a glorious opportunity. Looking forward to see what you bring out in these young players. Looking forward to success in 09.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!
This why you gotta love being a Bronco Fan because Mr. (CHANGE) McDaniels has arrived, eyes wide open. I believe he’s gonna restore that glow that comes with winning. The AFC West just got tougher and nobody wants to see the Broncos start bucking like crazy. We are on our way! Seems like he knows he can win with our boys, I hope CHANGE can. First year AFC Championship-second year grand stage, which ever comes first. People that don’t pay attention to football are going to want tickets to the greatest show on earth. Lets go break in that new stadium in Dallas the right way, make Superbowls our second home. DENVER BRONCOS #1.
Love the 2 last replys…. positive…
there were good coach’s available and we took this dude…. i have faith in him to some extent but he rubs me the wrong way, and if he talks about the things he has done in new england one more time im gonna be real pissed.i hate that team second only to the chargers. this guy is going to have to be simply fantastic in order to impress me. i do like the idea of nolan at d coordinator though.
chuntbuck….have faith dude. We have enough talent on offense to go the distance. I would love to have Mike Nolan back here too. Think Karl Mecklenburg….He did coach him here after all. If he builds a good 3-4 D and we lose some bodies….oh well. It’s professional football. Move doom to OLB in a 3-4 and he might be like James Harrison was this year. The winds of change are a blowin’. Don’t be suprised to see some significant changes in defensive players. Drafting Taylor Mays from USC would be a great start. I pumped!!!!! GO BRONCOS!!!!!
Read my comments on “McDaniels Arrives in Denver.”
yea there’s know reason he needs to build the DENVER BRONCOS into the NEW ENGLAND CHEATERS, im all about him givin the ball to cutler but DENVER needs to keep that runnyin game goin, i don’t care if coach Shanahan started it, McDaniels needs to keep it goin, i don’t know about everyone else but i get pumped when i see our runningback hit that 1,000 mark.
people stop with were gonna clean house on defense because Mike Nolan runs a 3-4 he’s smart and plays to what the team has, he can play a 4-3, 3-3-5, but if we can have a great draft i’d love to go to the 3-4 and just blitz the crap out of teams and make them hurry up and have to throw to champ,
anyone know if McDaniels wants to bring in Dom Capers, because havin Mike Nolan and Dom Capers on the same side would be awesom, Capers knows how to build a team, look what he did when he was with CAROLINA when they first came into the NFL,
it’s about time we take over the AFC WEST the CHARGERS are done for awhile, this year they proved it’s not the coaches fault they can’t get to the superbowl it’s the players, will take over the AFC WEST and the CHARGERS KC can fight for 2nd, CHARGERS DEFENSIVE coach might be leavin, how much longer do they have LT, LT isn’t the same with out TURNER and NEIL he needs help poundin the ball, so yea sorry CHARGER yall are done nice run game over new dogs in town
i think this is a good choice, i would of liked to see spags get the job, he lights a fire under his players and gets them to play. What worries me about McDaniels is the fact that he is young and patriots players have even publicly stated that he is not the best at demanding the most from his players. That is what we need, a coach to fire up the players that, for the past few years, have played unmotivated football. Hopefully this excited head coaching job will bring out the best in him and allow him to get the guys playing with a passion. I’m not worried at all about the D, it can only get better and I LOVE the idea of bringing in Nolan as DC. he is a guy who will grind his players until they give their all. And Mick D did work with D in his earlier years. To be an offensive “genius” you need to have a firm grasp on what the D does and what it will throw at you, how to beat it. He knows different Deffenses and their weeknesses. He can see how to exploit them and therefore, how to counter those exploits. He will be fine, we will have a good and exciting year. Offense should be fun to watch, and we should have an exciting offseason with a lot of changes and exciting news being thrown our way. We should be kept busy. I look forward to a great season and a return to the playoffs next year. BRONCOS!
bigvon….. AMEN Bro!
peterg ….. I live in New Orleans and have to deal with Saints fans everday, but even they are smart enough to know that Mac just may be a good fit. Not every NFL coach was a high school head coach. Hell some weren’t even a head coach on the playground level.
I still say there’s more to this man than just offense! Now I’ll admit that I need someone to help me see why Nolan would be a good choice @ DC bc I don’t know much about him as DC. I only remember him in his last job as head coach. So I’m willing to learn about him from my fellow Broncos fans since I lack in the Nolan information area.
As far as those who feel like Coach Mac owes them something! Well get over yourself bc the man owes you nothing. So study him, write a essay on him, and turn it in to someone who cares. Some of yall keep saying Shanny this, Shanny that, and etc etc. Get out of the past! How can we move on to the next chapter if you won’t turn the page ending the previous chapter?!
Hiring a young coach is both – chance and risk.
Leadership: A young guy may be a good motivator (we see that in locker rooms). For conflict management, tough decisions … I would prefer an older coach. Age difference helps to assume the role of an “independent judge”. Selecting Nolan as DC is a good sign – Mc Daniels has the guts to surround himself with strong personalities.
Strategy: A new coach should never force his favorite system onto a team, but adjust to the strengths of his players. One example for a failed system implementation was Mariuccis West Coast Offense in Detroit with am strong but slow OL plus an immobile QB inherited from his predecessor. In order to optimize a strategy for the talent of the core players requires knowledge of many systems (–> experienced coach) as well as an open mind for new solutions (–> youth may be positive). Our offense has played well in most games and should not be thrown out only for the sake of making changes. The D is another story, especially the front. Sometimes I doubt the talent of the players, sometimes I get the impression, that the group is underachieving due to being out of sync. Building a strong D will be a top priority for 2009. We need a good draft, maybe some FA acquisitions and above all, coaches, who bring out the best in our players.
- Find the the best players on our roster and get rid of the others!
- Find the systems that utilizes the strengths of these players!
- Make them physically and mentally strong!
- Make them a “machine”, that is stronger than the sum its parts!
Go Broncos!
Lets just wait and see what happens. Nobody knows for sure what will happen this season. Lets see if he can prove that he has the passion that he says he does for the game. You can guarantee that every little thing he does will be scrutinized by the fans, other coaches, players, and most of all Bowlen. We’ve given some of our players a chance to prove themselves, lets do the same for our coaches before we throw them under the bus. I’m kind of excited to see what he can do. Being younger both has its pros and cons.. in our case hopefully more pros.
To crown McDaniel’s king or to crucify him at this point it rediculous. He has never been a head coach in the NFL. Let’s judge him by his words, actions and results. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst! Go Broncos!
Shanny, shanny, shanny!Get over it, he’s gone! Move on! When he cared he was a good coach. Then he got burnt out. Thats why he’s gone. Now on to bigger and better things. I’m prtoud to welcome McDaniels in. He talked the talk last night. So everyone shut the H*** up and let him walk the walk. I was glad to see Bates gone. Everyone remembers the good calls but you have forgot the bad ones. You remember the ones that kept us from winning games we needed. Yes, mostly because of the defense but there was times when the offense could of saved us. But we would call a bad play and then call the same one the next two calls. And then would have to punt away. Bates was a big part of us not making the playoffs, see ya. Cutler wiil get along just fine with McDaniels. Give them a couple months and tyhey will be best friends. Cutler will grow under McDaniels. Is’t that what hc is supposed to do for the players. And the defense, he will reconstruct it. That is the only thing that will help it. Plus a little tough love. And make them earn their millions. I’m excited too see what he does to our special ed teams(oops I mean our special teams).I look foreward to McDanials Reign as HC. What can you do for me? And if you don’t like the choice, go some where else because we are tired of hearing you.
This is for those of you that are knocking McDan on his experience. American society has changed. Experience means nothing anymore. Of course you can give the keys to a kid with a permit. We as a country just hired a President who has never even been the boss of anything. If we can hire a man who has never run anything ever to run America surely we can give a young coach a break.
Amen, thats what I’m talking about (docwho69).
He’s young and doesn’t have all the experience of a well matured coach. Lets face it though, all those great coaches in history, they all started out the same way. Some guy that has had little experience, a passion for the game, and the desire to win. Then all of a sudden the no name guy turns into an awesome coach. Every single great coach out there started from the bottom. Give him a chance before you bury him.
I LOVE THIS ! ! !
BroncoFan973 Bates may stick around but just as QB Coach where he belongs, NOT CALLING THE PLAY’S. R. Dennison will move on and prosper.
TeamGrnGoat the only thing M. Shanahan had to do with Jay’s bad picks is putting Bates in charge of the play calling.
peterg you’ve convicted J. McDaniels before a Trial. GO AWAY!
bullridinmike27 weve been a shotgun TEAM for a while now that’s what got M. Shanahan fired. The Broncos didn’t even start a FB in the last four games, and most of the other games Larson was listed as a FB but played LB.
BlueandOrangeHawkeye I like the suit idea…
BRONCOBAILEY99 NICE …. 12 is my new favorite number.
CARAMELLOO just look up Mike Nolan name on a web search and wakpedia
Chemmaster well said….Like you need my aproval or something HA! Well done anyway.
Bronco 1970 again well said the player’s on the Offensive side are good but the scheme is not perfect. # 2 rated Offense in yards but I want points and control.
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
Broncos hire Nolan as defensive coordinator
Posted: January 13th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Denver Broncos, Mike Nolan
Any questions about who would be Denver’s defensive coordinator now can be officially dismissed. The Broncos hired former 49ers coach Mike Nolan on Tuesday and gave him a two-year contract. Nolan returns to the Broncos franchise he worked for from 1987-1992.
Yup. As LB coach. I’m thinking the Orange Crush will be back soon. Was wishing he would come here after he lost his job in SF. I’m totally pumped now. We are going to take complete charge of the AFC west. SD won’t know what hit em. Hope we make the right free agent moves. There are a bunch out there for ’09. Man just think if we could lure Julius Peppers away from Car. Bertrand Berry is a UFA too. I say bring him back. GO BRONCOS!!!!
I heard Taylor Mays is returning for his Senior year…
With that said, I say we look at Malcom Jenkins, Malaluga, Laurenitis, or trade down and get the DE from texas, I can’t seem to think of his name
and peterg seriously dude take a hike. we have one of the youngest and brightest teams in the league, this year was our first great draft on the D side of the ball with woodyard, larsen, barrett, and even josh bell. they need time to get up to speed with the game but they do have the talent. I think we will be solid this year probably sneak into the playoffs but 2 years from now, look out
i think orakpo will go hire then 12th so we would have to trade up which we wont. Aaron Curry from wake forest is the best line backer even though he is technically outside he can play both, he is a beast google him and tell me different and yes peter g has to go this guy doesnt know football from ballet. put on a to to and get outta here
I really hope our head trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach go the way of the dodo. No amount of personell changes are going to help if we have as many injuries next year, as we’ve had over the past two.
I just read Coach McDaniels is looking to bring in former Denver O-Lineman and current Carolina Panthers OC Jeff Davidson as new OC! It seemed to me The Panthers know a little something about running the ball. Looks like things are starting to shape up. Any input anybody?
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
If that’s true monodono, that would be sweet!
Go Broncos ’09
i like what he is bringing in now free agents are next
and we didnt draft josh bell college free agency from san diego atwater just read that part
I also read that The Broncos have given J. Bates permission to talk to The raiders.
The strength and conditioning coach is definitely gone. McDaniels isn’t a fool. He can see that was a problem. that is good news he’s bringing in Jeff Davidson. He will also make a great addition. Carolina did alright with him. you know if they get our receivers from dropping passes, we’ll move to the #1 spot in offense. Instead of leading the league in dropped passes. Let Bates go to Oakland. He wont be a threat to us there. GO BRONCOS!!!!
That is soem good news on the Jeff Davidson. It seemed like he knows a little about the running game.
Ok people so were stacking up the personel department lets actually get some guys in there that want to play a full 4 quarters. I am tierd of seeing them come out guns blazing in the 1st quarter than peter out the rest of the game.
Draft day, every coach that is getting a chance with Denver now better not make the same mistake as Shanny has been doing and come up with a weak draft class. Mind you Cutler,Clady,Marsh and Royal are once in a lifetime picks. Lets Get some D player. Curry,Malaluga, Laurenitis are beast we need to be looking at. Smash mouth orange crush football is what needs to happen. Nolan better step up as D coach.
GO Broncos 09!!
