Listen to ‘Elway Live’

September 27th, 2011 - 3:23pm by Kenny Legan

Every Tuesday at 2 p.m. MDT, DenverBroncos.com airs ‘Elway Live,’ a live half-hour audio show. Host Chris Hall of Broncos TV sat down with Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway Tuesday afternoon for the second episode of the online-streamed audio broadcast that features fan-submitted questions for Elway.

During the show, Elway sympathized with the fans’ feeling after starting out 1-2.

“I feel for the fans and what’s happened over the past few years,” Elway said. “I think with our win-loss record, that everybody’s frustrated and everybody gets very frustrated with losing. There’s no question that I understand that.”

Head Coach John Fox said Monday that he believes the team has gotten better each week and Elway sees that as well. But he also recognized the need for the team to consistently play well down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

“I think we’re improving in a lot of different areas,” Elway said. “We have to get better at making plays in the fourth quarter, especially offensively. Defensively, we did it against Cincinnati and I think Kyle realizes that. That he needs to do a better job of making those plays and making the big plays in the fourth quarter that get us over the hump.”

Elway talked Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, the offense’s red-zone efficiency, the defense’s ability to stop the run, the impact of Broncos newcomers and plenty more.

After each show, the broadcast will be archived to DenverBroncos.com and will also be available as a podcast through iTunes.

Fans can start submitting their questions for next week’s show via Twitter using the hashtag #ElwayLive.

for cryin out loud!!! orton can hang a full season we need to throw the guy that has 4 years left on contract!

  2. 1nOnlyTRB says:

broncofan9137, our pass D will improve when we get out probowl rusher back and our hall of fame CB back. TRB

  3. BeastFromEast92 says:

If it was up to 99% on this blog Orton would be hanging by his nads,if he had any,for a full season, lol.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Ty no prob, no need to apologize.

9137, I did not quite word it like that since I do believe we can win at least the home KC game and probably the Miami one, but what I always did say is the fact that we came out of our easiest stretch 1-2 will make it hard to match or exceed the # of wins from last year.

  5. Randy2191 says:

I couldn’t see him going to a team that’s a Gary teed one year thing once Charles is back… Inn Denver he has a chance to be a contributer with Moreno being injury prone and not very effective and well we saw what Willis can do… If je could come to Denver and out up a few 100 yard games I could see him sticking especially if he get over his fumblitis

  6. Randy2191 says:

And goin over it in my head my prediction for season 7-9 guess I was to hopeful :/ lol

  7. Ty-one-on says:

    I agree rayjr.

I also wanted to scream when Tebow actually slid out of bounds in front of a defender in that one preseason game, can’t remember which it was. I got the impression he was trying to show Fox, hey look I can be mediocre too if you want me to be…lol

I hope they’re not waiting until they coach everything out of him that makes him different before they start him.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

    armadillo,

There is indeed a very big escalator for Quinn also, but it requires 70% of the snaps rather than Tebow’s 55%, so we might see him before Tebow, LOL:

Quinn’s contract discussed at the DP back in March 2010:

Quinn, who still has two seasons remaining on his original five-year, $9.2 million contract, is a relative bargain in base salary for the Broncos at the moment. He is scheduled to earn $700,000 in base salary in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons. However, that price goes up significantly if he becomes the starter.

If Quinn plays 70 percent of the Broncos’ snaps on offense in the upcoming season, he has a $5.9 million escalator bonus.

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

That’s what they want,is Tebow to change, which imo, would ruin his game!

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

I got it,play Quinn for the next 6 games, then Tebow the last 6 or vice versa, that way we know what we have in both of them,I know Quinn sucks, but at least he has a chance to get better,Orton has done maxed out!!!

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Those are excuses for now, it is all about $$$$ like it always is.

  12. BeastFromEast92 says:

    AMEN!

  13. strandoftds says:

    BFE knows rocket science.

  14. RabidOrange says:

Ok bay. You stated that going into GB with our current record it would be very hard for us to meet or exceed last year’s win total. So, in a purely hypothetical scenario, would that outlook change if we were somehow able to walk out of Lambeau with a win? If so, how?

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Actually I don’t we have 13 games left 6+6 is 12,lol.

  16. strandoftds says:

You can`t change Tebow. You can curtail him a little bit, harness his pocket awareness, but after that, let him play his game.

  17. BeastFromEast92 says:

If we walk out of Lambeau with a win,my 8-8 prediction is ON!!!!!!!!!!

  18. sndvl says:

This just in. OC has discovered the newest element on planet earth, #119, Ortonite!!!! Not to be confused with element #22- Timtanium.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

That would mean Orton is not who I thought he was, LOL, so automatically that adds up to a couple more wins and then my 6-10 might be right, because as of now it’s off.

  20. strandoftds says:

    LOL, what about kryptonite?

  21. baylinorcrush says:

8-8, BFE is still hooked on the Bud Light, LOL.

  22. strandoftds says:

We`re only gonna win one or 2 more games. LOL

  23. strandoftds says:

In the orange can or bottle. LOL

  24. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, this blog is called “inside the numbers”, next time they should try having one about the QBs inside contracts numbers, that would be more my cup of tea.

  25. RabidOrange says:

strand, kryptonite is actually a molecule comprised of 1 atom of element #52 and 1 atom of element #92.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Sorry previous blog was called that

  27. RabidOrange says:

*strand, kryptonite is actually a molecule comprised of 1 atom of element #58 and 1 atom of element #92.*

  28. BeastFromEast92 says:

Maybe Orton is really Superman, and the other teams are putting Kryptonite in their back pocket, that would explain why when they get close to him he gets so weak and noodly, loses his power to stand up straight and falls on his face, haha!

That’s it…that’s why he plays so good in practice,no Kryptonite….

  29. strandoftds says:

    LMAO!!

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

bay,my Bud Light tells me if we beat the Packers we will go 8-8.
If we lose we go maybe 4-12,if we are lucky?

  31. Randy2191 says:

Or maybe tebow is superman and or ton is kryptonite… As long as he is around tebow will never have a fair chance

  32. BeastFromEast92 says:

strand the Orange can says 3-13,lol.

  33. BeastFromEast92 says:

If Tebow is Superman, that would make Orton Bizzaro, the Superman immitater, remember the cartoon series,it’s old, lol.

  34. millertime2 says:

17 to 14 broncos our defense is good, lot people last wk thought that titans would score mid 30s surprise.

  35. Randy2191 says:

Lol I wasn’t a big superman fan so I dnt recall plus a lot of the superman stuff was before I was born and when I was super young

  36. Ty-one-on says:

Just out of curiosity, do the players and or staff read these blogs ?

  37. Randy2191 says:

I’m not sure if so I have never seen em post unless it was a blog they wrote

  38. O&BinCostaRica says:

I don’t think they bother and of course, could not care less.

    Bench Orton
    Bench Orton
    Bench Orton

    PLEASE!

  39. baylinorcrush says:

Specially in Costa Rica, La Pura Vida!

  40. jsizzla says:

As far as I’m concerned bring on the losses. The more losses the closer we are to Tebow Time. I really believe he will start this year and I really believe this organization will turn around with Kyle Cancer off the field.

  41. jsizzla says:

Demaryius needs to get his *** on the field. I mean, what has that guy done since he’s been here? Great deep threat big reciever, never plays? Show some heart son! Get on the field!

  42. Mikeyb1203 says:

Elway admitted it was because of Tebows contract lol did anyone else here at the end when Elway said he loves looking a contracts lol.

  43. JamesBroncoFan says:

Since it is pretty dead in here, I wanted to share some stats that just found: Stats for last 3 games played by KO and TT.

    Kyle Orton’s last 3 starts:
    Passing: 672 yds/5 td’s/3 int’s/8 sacks for -41yds
    Rushing: 11 yds/0 td/2 fumbles lost

    Tebow’s first 3 starts:
    Passing: 651yds/4 td’s/3 int’s/6 sacks for -21 yds
    Rushing: 199yds/3 td’s/0 fumbles lost

    Total yards accounted for:
    Kyle Orton: 683 yds/5 td’s/ 5 turnovers (2 of them game ending)
    Tim Tebow: 850 yds/7 td’s/ 3 turnovers

    Total Record:
    Kyle Orton: 1-2
    Tim Tebow: 1-2

One QB has 7 years experience and the benefit of going through training camps and practices taking all of 1st string snaps

The other QB was a rookie thrown in the fire playing for an interim coach who’s previous experience was running back’s coach.

  44. 88Odoms says:

Best stats Ive seen…wish Elway and Fox would look at those.

  45. broncochick1 says:

Do you all think the Broncos’ front office looks at these comments. I am one who thinks you shouldn’t listen to the fans, but come on it doesn’t take a football genius to see that this offense is inept. Get Tebow in there!!!!! On second thought listen to the fans we are the one who supports and pays for this team.

  46. baylinorcrush says:

If they are not reading these posts then they are not listening to the fans which is a promise they made when the new regime took over. That would be impossible to fathom in my mind, they are very well aware of what’s being said here, it’s a business, we are their business, not listening would be foolish and lying in this case too.

  47. Ty-one-on says:

I would bet they read them too and I would hope they see at least some truth in what’s being written here. Usually when a majority of fans are unhappy about something they’re usually right…lol

  48. stevecan2 says:

As a player, no I don’t think it is a good idea to read these blogs, headlines, etc. But Like John Fox said he is compensated well, so I do think the coaches, management, etc needs to pay attention.

  49. henryac says:

Doesn’t Tebow’s contract say 55% starts AND get the team to the playoffs? If he can do that with this offense and coaching staff, he deserves any escalators he gets! Does the management really think if he can accomplish that, they won’t make back every penny they would have to pay him? If that is the case, somebody signed a pretty stupid contract from the team’s perspective and you can’t blame that on McDingleberry since HC’s don’t do contracts. He didn’t negotiate the contracts, X-man did with the approval of the owner. Quinn could start 70% and still not accomplish anything but at least he would have to play for it and Orton is making a pile of money and it doesn’t matter whether he starts or not. This QB contract situation is of the team’s own making, not the players or their agents, so they are left with the choice of what caliber of financial pistol do they shoot themselves in the foot with!

  50. oldsouthstander says:

    GB 31 Broncos 13.
May this put me on the Wall of Shame!!!
