Every Tuesday at 2 p.m. MDT, DenverBroncos.com airs ‘Elway Live,’ a live half-hour audio show. Host Chris Hall of Broncos TV sat down with Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway Tuesday afternoon for the second episode of the online-streamed audio broadcast that features fan-submitted questions for Elway.
During the show, Elway sympathized with the fans’ feeling after starting out 1-2.
“I feel for the fans and what’s happened over the past few years,” Elway said. “I think with our win-loss record, that everybody’s frustrated and everybody gets very frustrated with losing. There’s no question that I understand that.”
Head Coach John Fox said Monday that he believes the team has gotten better each week and Elway sees that as well. But he also recognized the need for the team to consistently play well down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
“I think we’re improving in a lot of different areas,” Elway said. “We have to get better at making plays in the fourth quarter, especially offensively. Defensively, we did it against Cincinnati and I think Kyle realizes that. That he needs to do a better job of making those plays and making the big plays in the fourth quarter that get us over the hump.”
Elway talked Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, the offense’s red-zone efficiency, the defense’s ability to stop the run, the impact of Broncos newcomers and plenty more.

i am a very logical person and here is how i see it…
if Orton gives us ‘the best chance to win’ and we are losing and we find ourselves watching the Panthers during a Denver game
then what does the organization have to lose by playing Tebow – not a darn thing!!!
Also, with Orton’s contract up and not already renewed he is pretty obvious he won’t be in Denver next season so once again there is nothing to gain by playing him. Let Tebow get the experience and we will probably win just as many or more games anyway!!!
I have tickets to the Denver/KC game in KC – only going if Tebow is starting. Fans don’t care what his mechanics look like as long as he is fun to watch which he is. The best time I had watching the Broncos last year was the last 3 games of the year. Tebow is a worker and a gamer and has ‘heart’, his spirit is being crushed sitting on the sideline.
Pretty obvious McCoy is not calling the games, he at least had some packages for Tebow in short yardage last year when Studdes was letting him call the plays. Give Tebow 4 shorts at the end zone ‘for the W’ and he would have gotten the team in….GUARANTEED!!! GAMER!!!!!
My wife does not watch football, and she says that Orton sucks and that they need to play Tim Tebow. Famous words for the year- Best Chance to Win. Compared to Tim Tebow WILL WIN! If i was an idiot I would rather have Tim Tebow’s philosophy of Tim Tebow Winnig to where Kyle Orton Best Chance to win. Elway, if you are sympathetic with the fans, play Tebow not Orton. Orton sucks and he is natural born loser in the game of Football. The next two games are already written up for losses, but how much longer should we watch the Broncos suffer under Kyle Orton and his mediocre game style? Please, play Tebow not Orton!!! ORTON SUCKSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TEBOW WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not sold on Denver losing both of the next two games. Sure everyone thinks we will lose, but I think Green Bay will be a trap game. They will be looking past us and not expect us to do anything. Kind of like Carolina did to them. The Packers do not have a very good defense either. They let a rookie qb, with natural skills albeit, with a simplified offense and a new offensive coordinator and head coach almost beat them. I think we can sneak up on them as well. As far as Tebow and Orton go, I am not sure who would be best. I liked what I saw from Tebow last season, but it is completely up to the Johns and Xanders. It would be a shame for Tebow to not get a chance and he goes somewhere else next year and shines! We need the defense to step it up when playing the superbowl champs. They need to play like it was the superbowl!
John,
If you really think Orton gives us “the best chance to win” that’s fine . . . (personally I think it has more to do with Tebow’s contract jumping up 22 million dollars if he plays more than 60% of the downs.)
But that doesn’t mean Tebow shouldn’t play at all. It’s a proven fact that Tebow is better in short yardage situations. he adds a powerful running option to the game that of necessity leaves someone uncovered. Orton will NEVER be able to do that.
So if you insist on keeping Orton, at the very least give Tebow some snaps when we’re in short yardage, goal line, and low pressure situations. That’s the only way he’ll ever grow into the position and develop into a future starter. Keeping him on the bench the whole game is strangling him and pissing off the fans, who keep you in business.
Give Tebow some playing time!
I hope this is Kyle’s going away party when he visits Green Bay this weekend. I like watching exciting QB play I dont get this from watching boring Orton. Watching his interview was even just as boring. He has a look about him like him like his butts in the fire at work and at home. He mentioned something about not hardly being able to sleep. Yea right he was changing diapers. Oh did i mention that we have Tebow who in his last 3 games last year were really fun to watch. When we were scoring 24 points per game yea would like to see it paired with the new D. They could play off each others fire. Come on change the season around.
