Let’s Flip For It

February 24th, 2010 - 9:43am by Gray Caldwell

On Friday, the Broncos will find out whether or not they will select in the top 10 in April’s 2010 NFL Draft.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, there will be a coin toss to determine who will have the 10th overall selection and who will have the 11th. The Broncos (from Chicago) and Jaguars are the two teams affected by the flip.

DenverBroncos.com is at the combine, and we will bring you coverage of the coin toss that will determine the Broncos’ draft position.

Thanks TRB. Glad to see somebody who doesn’t just repeat what espn or foxsports says. For the record, I KNOW that a switch is being made to a power blocking scheme. I just think it’s a mistake to release Weigmann when it’s obvious that he is our best option at C, he’s under a good contract, and he’s a veteran who can help lead the OL. Almost as much of a mistake as switching away from zone blocking in the first place.

  2. footballMANIAC says:

Tebow is an awesome guy, but there are too many questions to take him in the first round or expect him to be able to adapt to the NFL right away. I’d take him mid-2nd round or 3rd, but not before.

  3. Orange_Crusher says:

    bay,

do you have the actual SB game coin or a replica? Just wondering…. I’m a coin head among other sports and flint interests.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

broncoboy2012, I don’t know what you are getting at with a big WR talking Dez over Gaffney, they are BOTH 6’2″, check it out.

  5. sndvl says:

Mitch Petrus- AFC scout talked about him at the Senior Bowl and said that he has never seen a player so up and down in his scouting career at the guard position. He looks like a legit first round prospect one week, and an undrafted free agent the next. He shows tremendous mobility and power and would be a perfect fit for a scheme that implements a lot of zone blocking.

  6. sndvl says:

footballmaniac- just chalk it up to another genius move by McD. Tick-Tock

  7. Orange_Crusher says:

    hahaha….bay!

I love the ” man without legs” remark about Orton……lmao! haha

I dont’ think he has an arm either….

    He’s a nice guy though…..

  8. baylinorcrush says:

OC, it’s a limited edition, #1238 of 7500 minted made of one troy ounce of.999 fine Silver and with 24 Karat Gold Team helmets and super bowl logo, the serial # is printed on the coin and it has Paul Tagliabue’s signature on it. I just had to buy one since it was our first super bowl win. It’s the official game coin and comes in a real nice case, it’s pretty cool.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Glad you caught that, I thought it was pretty funny too…

  10. footballMANIAC says:

Yeah, tick tock goes the time-bomb, huh sndvl?

  11. baylinorcrush says:

OC, if you really want to have fun, you have to watch this cartoon of Marshall, Orton and McD that broncfalls posted the other day, it is freaking hilarious, a jaw breaker for sure.

  12. Orange_Crusher says:

    sndvl,

You’re so verbally menstrual in your exasperating hatred for our young coach? Come on man? er…yeah

Anyways, you might as well chill and realize that we are going to have McD as our Head Coach for another year or two at least! Lets question his moves in respect to the fact that all of our hopes are riding on him. Don’t count down the time untill he is gone? What the heck is it with you anyways, I swear you are a goonie from the DP arent you?

Are you Woody Paige? he’s the only one I know that hates McD that much….lol

  13. sndvl says:

Ah, OC, you forget your prunes today?
You expect me to sit here and cheerlead every ridiculous decision McD makes? Dont think so. Im not delusional that he will be fired this offseason. But the sooner he is out of Denver, the happier I shall be. I dont expect you to agree with me. But you cant expect me to like him. And if Im a goonie from the DP, does that mean youre his whipping boy from Dove Valley?

  14. denver0723 says:

I’m new to this whole blog discussion thing, but I have been reading them for quite some time now. And I am gonna say what I feel. Yeah… that’s how I want to word that. It’s all opinion tho, so hopefully nobody gets on my case too much.

1.) I like Kyle Orton. Does he have a strong arm? Oh God no. But guess what? He can win games. What!? Kyle Orton win games? Yep. He can. Cuz he doesn’t turn the ball over like Cutler likes to. Mr. KO only threw 12ints all season, and 6 of those came from 2 games. So you erase those 2 games, or things go different in those 2 games, and you have yourself a damn accurate QB. Even if he does only throw the ball -5yds each play. But it was his first year in the new system, so don’t be surprised when he starts flinging the ball around a bit more next season.

2.) I like Josh McDaniels. O-M-G! Get this denver0723 off of this website! It was his FIRST year as a head coach. He made mistakes. We all realize this. But he’s not some youthful version of Al Davis, he will get it together. Give him the chance to evaluate himself, and to make improvements. He’s young. And he will get there.

3.) Lamont Jordan sucks. I am so glad he is gone. What a joke it was to even sign him in the first place.

4.) Casey will be missed dearly. Outstanding player, and an amazing person. But we are switching blocking schemes, and the man is going to be 35 years old. I wish him the best of luck, but I do not think releasing him was that big of a mistake. I hope he finds a starting job for another team next year, he deserves it.

5.) BMarsh and Doom need to be back next season. And I believe they will be. They are entirely too valuable to lose. Look for them to be back in Denver, and look for them to be even better.

6.) Hillis and Royal. I need to see more of them in the new system. They kick a$$ and I hope to see them on the field ALOT more next year.

I think that is all I have. Feel free to disagree or whatever you feel like doing. I enjoy discussions with fellow Broncos fans :) They are a lot more level-headed than the crappy bandwagon Dolt fans I keep running into on the comment section of NFL.com

    GO BRONCOS IN 2010!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. marshisboss says:

Denver0723 welcome and i have to say i agree with you can sndvl tell us who he wants to coach this team

  16. sndvl says:

Did anybody watch the way the season unraveled? Really. It was as bad as it could be. There were 4 teams to start the season 6-0. 3 of them made it to the championship games. The consensus here is that McD is a good coach and is building a good team in his image. Though it reeks of the New England image that peaked in success 5 years ago. Not one decision he has made since our bye week has made me any more confident of his future success with this franchise. Not to mention it will more than likely get worse. Trading Marshall anyone? No Dumervil extension anyone? From player decisions to coaching changes to the recent release of Weigmann, power blocking scheme or not, I can not look at this team and in any way think its better than a year ago.
But hey, it will become the team he envisions. That much is for certain. Whether that translates to success, remains to be seen. Going 2-8 is NOT success. That is for certain as well! Fire McD
    GO BRONCOS 2K10!!!!!!!!!!

  17. BeastFromEast92 says:

sndvl,I hear you, seems like McD is dismantling our team piece by piece,it’s tearing SOME of our hearts out,and not others. We all loved Shanny and his players, but it’s McD’s turn now and we will have to live with the teams descisions.Let’s just hope he don’t ruin it and then get canned, then we’ll be like Oakland and KC,starting over from scratch……

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

    HAVE FAITH BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. weareamr says:

    1. Cut all the dead weeds off the roster.
    2. Prep for our new free agents.
    3. Mc D shows everyone why he’s never been on a loosing team.
    4. Mc D makes the true Bronco fans, HAPPY.
    5. Mc D shuts up the nay sayers once and for all.
    6. The DRAFT, enuff said.
    7. It’s Mc D who is responsible for the thousands and thousands of HI”5″ during the draft.
8.Finally, Mc D is branded Mc Genius !

  20. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

sndvl…you are a broken record…”fire McD! fire McD” learn some new words the old ones are boring

  21. BeastFromEast92 says:

I like McD,it’s just hard to put too much trust in a young unproven coach, but if he can put a whole year together, insted of half of one,he’ll have my complete attention, and I’ll be the driver of this Bandwagon.GO BRONCS 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

Just read Moreno was in a bar fight and punched a university of georgia freshman…read it on nbcsports.com

  23. patientbronco says:

Ok, I just gotta say this to sndvl and those that are negative without being constructive. It could be a whole hell of a lot worse. Anyone remember when Jimmy Johnson rode into town to head the Dallas cowgirls and promptly began trading, releasing, and punting all the fan fav players out of town so that he could rebuild the team from scratch. The turnover on that regime chang was far more than what we have seen here with Mc D. While I dont agree with all of his moves, I remember what dallas fans went through with Jimmy and I thank Bowlen we arent seing anything that drastic.

  24. 24_champbailey says:

sndvl lol come on… dont tell me that when we were 6-0 you werent happy.. i bet you were hell yeah mc D is a smart coach!!! ha i bet you were. i think we all were, jus give it time. he wanted to make a statement as coaching in his first year and he did. i think he is a great coach and i cant wait fer 2010 season to start, i know we’re going to be good. and trust me we re keeping marshall and doom.. and orton jus wait till he hits the long throws… royal is gonna be playing a lot and our defense is gonna be as powerful!!! DenverBroncosFanFerLife!!!!

  25. usmcwall says:

If you’re tired of the negativity from this place (which are just about the only comments I see here) head over to http://www.milehighreport.com. A lot of great posters over there, educated, and trolling is very small. The posting rules prevent people from outright senseless bashing without sound reasoning to back up their claims. Of course there are a ton of opinions, but the are always clearly stated as such, and posters/commenters aren’t making personal attacks on players and staff that they obviously don’t know personally. Its a great haven to seriously consider Broncos moves and take analyzed looks at the offseason and regular season alike. They have a large group of guys that go out to Training Camp too and type of observations for the masses that can’t make it (as there is quite a large international fanbase for our club).

  26. brian_schneider says:

C’mon guys everyone’s getting their feathers ruffled again. Casey is a good center, age is creeping up on him and his size makes him great in a zone blocking scheme. Everyone is mad because we released him with no viable relief. We do have this Frye guy on our reserve team or maybe we look into FA. Since we’re moving to the power blocking scheme we need bigger more phsycial lineman. Its a system move, we want the right players to be able to run the scheme effectively. Did we not see how we were in short yardage situations. Everyone was bustin’ Moreno’s chops about it (myself included) but when I actually took the time to watch the replays, the line was gettting man handled. For Orton to be successful he needs a consistent running game, for a consistent running game we need to have a powerful offensive line, to have a powerful offensive line we need to add size and power, to add size and power we need to beef up the line, which sad to say means we need to release some of the guys that were a staple in the zone blocking scheme.
As a society in general we all want things to be going good, going great, good times for all, but at the same time we don’t want to change, we don’t want to initiate the change, and changing is hard for some.
Perfect example is politics, everyone talks about the good things we can do, but no one wants to change.
For example, where I live they do a pretty crappy job of plowing the streets, everyone complains, but no one wants to have to pay the plow drivers OT with the city rasing the city taxes and such. I for one am for it, an extra penny can do wonders.
Same here, we want to be able to plow the trenches, but no one wants change on the o-line. Not going to happen, if we don’t address the o-line we can expect to see the same thing we saw last season.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

Same old, nothing new, we all are what we are, no big deal, I’ve learned not to make the world right to my views here anymore, it sends too many people over the edge, not worth it, if sndvl feels better saying fire McD, so be it, it doesn’t bother me, neither do any other comment, it is just the spice of life, different strokes for different folks, just ignore it if you can’t deal with it is my recommendation.

As far as the flag bearer for the Mile High Report, usmcwall, for your information, negativity is not all that takes place here, and we do have great posters here too. If you have to resort to that for advertising for your “club” as you put it, it’s a pretty shameful way of conducting business if you ask me. I am proud to be part of the official Denver Broncos blog site, and I am glad you are happy being at MHR, but please go do your recruiting somewhere else and stay away with your criticism of this blog. Talk about a troll.

  28. DOOMervilfan says:

I am sorry to see Weigman go. I still think we should have kept at least as a back-up. Now we have a new need going into the draft and FA, I don’t think we spend a first rounder on an O-lineman. Maybe Hamilton shifts back to center. And what about Seth Olsen Maybe he takes over at left guard?

  29. DOOMervilfan says:

One more thing, McDaniels needs to use PEYTON HILLIS in short yardage and on third down because of his awesome hands. I just don’t know how you have a talent like that and not use him.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Wit today being the deadline to slap the franchise tag on players, here is a recent list of the franchised players so far:

    Franchise players:

    Oakland – DE Richard Seymour
New England – DT Vince Wilfork
San Francisco – DT Aubrayo Franklin
Green Bay – DT Ryan Pickett
    Seattle – K Olindo Mare
    Pittsburgh – DT Casey Hampton

    Transition players:

    Pittsburgh – K Jeff Reed

Impossible not to notice that 4 of the 7 players are NT, and incredibly enough two are Kickers! Round that with a DE and that’s it. NT has definitely become the corner stone of every 3-4 D team and no one wants to give them up. Safest most reasonable way for us to go now is Dan Williams in the first. Of course if Bowlen doesn’t care about the money and McD wants to trade Marshall, there is still a possibility to get Wilfork with two firsts, long odds of that happening.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

Now I’m hearing the franchise deadline is tomorrow, from a Colts report that says they are probably not going to put the tag on ILB Brackett, anyone interested?

  32. xxgracegunnerxx says:

shanny brought the 49 way…rex ryan brought the raven way..mcd brought the patriot way…thats what coaches do…they bring succesful schemes and put em in place…all the fans hated belichick his first few seasons…funny what a handful of super bowls will do to the haters…

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Well said, grace, but only Belichick and Shanny brough super bowl wins to their teams, it’s a long shot assumption that Ryan and McD will do the same, though I could care less for Ryan I sure hope McD gets there.

  34. brian_schneider says:

Ryan did get his team to the playoffs…just sayin’.

  35. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

    bay,

I figured you would have a comment about Moreno in a bar fight. Brackett could be interesting so could Karlos Dansby but both are going to cost money.

Here is my question to you:

Would you rather trade Marshall and get Wilfork with 2 firsts our trade up to get McCoy (DT version) or Suh?

  36. BeastFromEast92 says:

If you are going to trade 2#1s you gotta go for proven talent over unproven.Bayin,Brackett would be great along side DJ in the middle don’t you think????????

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

I still say if we end up with 2 #1s we go after Williams and McClain.IMO

  38. baylinorcrush says:

cody, good question. Aussie brought up a somehow valid point that neither Suh or McCoy are true NT, while they are 300 lbs and could very well be moved to nose with the right regimen, I would lean towards the Wilfork option just because he would be the solution for now for sure, even so his contribution would be not as long term as the draftees, but of course all that would be out the window if the Pats sign him to a long term deal before March 5th, as they are reportedly attempting to do, but I don’t know that the Pats can do that, as Moss said, they are cheap.

As far as Moreno, I really don’t think it’s a huge issue since the police dept has closed the matter since the victim has opted not to pursue the matter.

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

I still believe we should keep Marshall, but if it dosen’t work out we need to get at least a #1 and maybe a #3,or trade for a good quality player we need,ILB or OG,etc………….

  40. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, BFE, it did raise my eyebrow to see that about Brackett. If we don’t go after Wilfork, hence we have to get Williams with our # 1, since we wouldn’t get McClain, Brackett seems like a good ILB option to explore, the guy may not be very big for an ILB, but he is a tackling machine.

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

I read somewhere the kid threw a punch at Moreno 1st,a mans gotta defend himself don’t he?

  42. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Agreed

  43. BeastFromEast92 says:

McClain,at 250 lbs is kinda slow, but is a great run stopper from the ILB spot.

  44. BeastFromEast92 says:

Mayock ranks Williams and McClain at #s 16 and 17 overall. If we can get a trade from Seattle for Marshall, they have the #14 pick,we could possibly gettem both, considering we would free up enough money to sign them both. But if we could sign Brackett we could go after a DE,OL.But I still say keep Marshall.IMO

  45. BeastFromEast92 says:

Last year McD had a great run in FA,but a so/so draft.Maybe this year he’ll do good in both.Let me make one thing clear though,McD don’t pull the trigger all by himself, theres more people involved with what goes on besides him,GM,Mr.B…etc so you can’t put all the blame on him if we don’t get the players we want.

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

A thought that DOOMervilfan brought up earlier,Seth Olsen, didn’t we draft him like 4th round last year, could he possibly play Center or LG?????? 6’5 308 lbs.He played RG in college.

  47. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, with Kuper at RG, it looks like Olsen could be the LG, I don’t see him at center though.

  48. TruBroncFan07 says:

Why is it when someone knocks MC D for some of his poor decision, that everyone automatically say you need to get past Shanny or Cutler days. I for one am way past that. It’s not about that. People need to stop coddling MC D and start realizing that decisions he is making are not good ones. MC D and company need to have a solid draft and get the fans excited again. Right now the Broncos are irrelevant in the NFL because we have no identity. Just because some posts critical comments about the team,QB, or coach does not mean that they should not be allowed to be on the website. Let’s keep DOOM and BMARSH. We can’t afford to loose any more talent! I am with you SNDVL.

  49. WEEBSY13 says:

we cant afford to lose Marshall, simple as that….and “baylinor” i would LOVE gary brackett that guy demolishes us everytime we “play” against the Colts….i also wouldn’t be upset if we drafted another QB as I don’t see Brandstater being the next John Elway

    Give Eddie the damn ball!

F*** lets pick up Tomlinson why not
