On Friday, the Broncos will find out whether or not they will select in the top 10 in April’s 2010 NFL Draft.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, there will be a coin toss to determine who will have the 10th overall selection and who will have the 11th. The Broncos (from Chicago) and Jaguars are the two teams affected by the flip.
DenverBroncos.com is at the combine, and we will bring you coverage of the coin toss that will determine the Broncos’ draft position.

So with Wiegmann released who do we have for a center? Glad Jordan is gone, wasn’t a good fit.
oh boy
Releasing Wiegmann made me want Carlos Dansby a lot less, now that we need a Center.
After a late night, Josh McDaniels comes up with his newest boneheaded move: “Hey guys, I’ve got an idea! Let’s release our best center who we have no decent backup for- you know, the one who made the Pro Bowl last year! I’m a genius! Bill would be so proud of me.”
Several thousand miles away, Bill Belechick of the New England Patriots shakes his head and wonders where he went wrong with such a promising young mind. But at least he managed to dump the kid off before he cracked.
THATS FLIPPIN’ SWEET!
A coin flip to determine a franchises future seems a little unprofessional to me.
But it’s a big ol’ mess with all those tie breakers. I guess this was the only way.
How about Del Rio VS McDaniels fight to the death? That would be more interesting.
Are you guys really that shocked that we let Casey go?
We are changing schemes, nothing against Casey. He was simply too small for a power blocking scheme.
I think I’d take Del Rio in that fight. You know, he only played linebacker and looks like an ex-Marine.
And do you not realize that we are on the eve of FA? We can pick up a new center in a couple of days…….Or draft one.
sheeesh
del rio looks like he lifted weights with Arnold in the 70′s.
SNDVL would be pleased in a Del Rio VS McDaniels fight to the death. Most likely because it would result in Del Rio’s favor. lol
I’m not shocked by the recent releases either. As noted above, a change in schemes warranted it, so best of luck to him in his future endeavors. It is pretty crazy to see the team we’ve grown to love dismantled piece by piece, but this isn’t Mike Shanahans team anymore. Out with the old, in with the new in this case. I just hope we see some consistant results in the next year or two, cause if not, in comes the next new head coach and his fundamentals, beliefs, staff and players. That’s how teams wind up resembling modern Kansas City or Oakland. A bunch of random guys that filled previous coaches rosters. But I’m behind this team fully, and always will be, rain or shine. I just hope I can put away the umbrella this year!
Been a while fellas but i’m back…still smokin. lol. I see some new names on these boards, wuz good my fellow donkies? First off, Del Rio Vs. McDaniels…sorry Josh. I’d put all My money on the JackHammer. lol.
Sorry Casey, you have been nothing but a true professional for this organization, and provided leadership for a very young and talented offensive line. U will be missed.
Lamont there is no real love-loss there. u didn’t do much, u took up cap-space, and u got in the way of my boy Hillis getting some more PT. (probably not, but i like to b*tch). lol
Lets hope FA delivers us a Hog @ center, and maybe just maybe a running back who can take it the distance everytime.
Aiight Donkies, i’m out.
This blog is like deja vu, we just discussed all this on the last one, LOL.
We are better of if we lose this coin flip. Chance be on our side.
It is just a simple coin flip but it could save or cost us millions of dollars. haha
10 or 11 wont matter. Denver and Jacksonville have diffeent needs. The Jags need a pass rusher, so they will take Derrick Morgan or Jason-Pierre Paul. Denver has some other needs, could trade down and get some more picks. A little surprised about Wieggman, but i wont go apesh** over it like some are. Lamont isnt too surprising, didnt do much. Probably more cuts to come.
Looks like this year’s Colts-Saints super bowl coin on the above pic.
I have the Bronco-GreenBay one in my collection, that’s why it caught my eye.
Do you suppose there is some special coin they use at the combine or does someone just pull a coin out of their pocket and flip it?
Also, those ceremonial coins, do they make sure all the images they put on don’t cause the coin to be balanced to one particular side?
That would be hilarious if the commish just pulls out a quarter and flips it.
No, but I hear sometimes someone slips a double sided coin in there, LOL.
Or they just have the ref change what was called LOL! Wasn’t that a Steelers game or something that the ref changed what was called?
That was a Thanksgiving game in 1998 between the Lions and the Steelers. Referee Phil Luckett said tail was called, then when the coin landed, he said heads is the call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was Jerome Bettis who called tails, so when he heard the ref say heads is the call, he went to him and said I called tail and the ref said no you didn’t… and the rest is history, LOL.
footballMANIAC we are changing schemes from zone blocking to a power scheme when you make fun of someone dont make yourself look like an idiot
Another Knee-Jerk reaction by McD in my book. Releasing Weigmann without a backup (viable) option. I guess hes keeping the spot for Berger!
Well if I ever need to write a book on how to dismantle a team starting with pro-bowlers, he is source #1.
I understand he wants to move to a power blocking scheme, but this seems a little premature.
Eh, at least he got rid of Jordan.
He did go a bit off the edge with his comment, didn’t he? LOL. Wiegman gone is what I have been asking for a month now as most here who follow this blog know, it was inevitable, Wiegman due to his lack of size which was becoming increasibly problematic due to his age, could no longer manhandle the position because the players keep on getting bigger in the league. He had his glory and now he must find something else to do, tough but simple as that, this is not a league for the faint of hart, He was a big part of the problem us been so bad on all the 3rd and 4th and short, thanks for your services Casey and best of luck with your future.
sndvl:
I don’t think that releasing Weigmann was a bad idea. I don’t think that he is a bad player, but he wasn’t right for the scheme we are running next year. Why would you keep him on there if you aren’t going to use him at all? Clear another space for someone else, especially since FA is coming up on March 5 (yay!)
I do have to agree with you on one thing, though, and I’m sure everyone else agrees with you. Jordan in gone, and that is a huge relief.
Pickett has been tagged! No choice but to get one in the draft now!
Now to make more room for free agency, let’s clear the roster of Phil Simms, Vernon Fox, Mitch Berger, Brandon Gorin and Jarvis Moss. I’m sure I’m going to hear some about some of these names, but for one reason or another all these guys are dead weight in my book.
I understand why he was released. But there are few options in FA this year. I dont think Mawae is the answer. The guy on the roster is raw and unproven. That leaves the draft and we all know what kind of crapshoot that is.
Some people say Hamilton might move back to center where he was better at, not that I think Hamilton should even stick around, but I’m saying there could be plans in the works we have no idea of.
Each one of those names should have came before Weigmann. Even if it was inevitable. Was he due a roster bonus or something? Well whats done is done. Just hope he doesnt go and draft a QB, RB and WR before a NT, C and G
We now seem have big ???? on O-line. No center. Hamilton and his concussion issues. Hochstein coming off a major knee surgey. Harris and his toe. Uncertainty around Kuper. No way McD trades Clady, Right?
Orton without Clady would be a scary proposition, LOL.
The man without legs and no blind side protection….
Polumbus seemed to do OK. But when McD called out the o-line, he was an integral piece at that time!
Sheesh peop;e went after FootballManiac prematurely. Almost as premature as weigmans release. I dont need anyoen to repeat to me that we are moving to a power schme and blah blah blah…I think many of us are aware of that. I think the point (the one sndvl supported) was that it was premature. Not unless we already know who its gonna be or we got em in the bag. Or can gaurantee we will draft them. Departure inevitable – yes, premature – yes.
New List-
1. O-line (G or C)
2. D-line (NT or DE)
2a. Sign Dumervil
3. O-line (C or G)
4. D-line (DE or NT)
5. QB to replace Simms
6. Manumaleuna.
I will agree that I expected Hamiltons departure before Weigmans but like Baylin said, maybe McD got a trick up his sleeve like making Hamilton the center…who knows….
Again, Manumaleuna potentially clears up 4 positions with the one signing!
1. Powerful FB that can run/catch/block. Makes the impending loss of Scheff bearable
2. Frees up Larsen for ILB. Backup FB
3. Hillis can be used as short yardage/goal line/powerback
4. Draft pick can be used for O-line/D-line in lieu of powerback
Another option is Mike Bell at Power back he is FA and there are rumors flying around that LT might end up in NO. That could keep Bell form getting resigned.
For those still salivating for Wilfork, It has been reported that Pats owner Kraft is close to a long term deal with his number 1 priority!
baylin,
We have Phil Simms on our team? Did he come with a time machine so we get him in his prime? If so, does he stay and get the start over Orton?
Time machine??? If you have a time machine, bring back Elway. LOL
Cody, hahaha, shows you how old I am, still traumatized by his father in the 1986 super bowl loss, LOL. Thanks for the correction, Chris Simms.
i think we should go with either casey rabach or pouncey but im thinking pouncey will be gone before our second round pick
Jacksonville is also in pursuit for a true No. 1 wideout too. I know Brandon Marshall isnt dealt away, yet, but if we get rid of him we will need a big (literally) playmaker. Gaffney showed some skill and we all know Eddie “Slot Machine/Casino” Royal has some talent too but we need a bit more size. New England had Moss (6’4″) with Gaffney (6’1″) and Welker (5’10″ or 5’11″).
So to get to my original point if BMarsh is dealt the head office might look at a playmaker like Dez Bryant in the first and so might JAX. Id like to see Roland McClain or Dan Williams taken at 10/11 myself but i wouldnt be too upset with Bryant either.
And to look at it from this perspective, if Marshall is dealt we can get Bryant and he can be taught McDaniel’s way from the get-go without all the drama. Plus Brandon is worth some dough so we would either get a good player or a nice draft pick. Possibly Haloti Ngata for BMarsh?? Just a thought
About the o-line issue, i kinda expected Casey to be released also. And Hamilton, well i dont expect him to be re-signed either. Kuper and maybe Hochstein should be back in 2010-2011. And maybe McD is gonna draft some guys and, eventually, permanently insert them into the gameplan. Mitch Petrus from Arkansas is a good power-scheme blocker and from what ive read about him, he is a good player on the field. Another option later is Matt McCracken from Richmond in the later rounds. Lawrence Sidbury really shot up the draft boards last year and, although he was a DE, McCracken could produce the same value.
I don’t want to beat the Tebone drum again too soon but, I did see a segment on sportscenter where he is working on quickening his throwing motion and it looked pretty good to me.. I don’t know? I heard that he is not going to throw in the combine?
I like Clausen but we would have to trade up to get him. If the Tebone falls to the 3-4th round I wouldn’t pass him up if we haven’t gotten Clausen, Lefevor or Cassel before then.
I LOVE ME SOME DENVER BRONCOS!!!!!
