The NFL announced Tuesday the 16 AFL Legacy Games that will be played during the 2009 NFL season.
As most of you know, this year marks the 50th season for the eight original American Football League teams — which include all four teams in the AFC West.
For the two legacy games the Broncos will take part in, they will wear their original 1960 uniforms, which as you might have seen are yellow and brown.
Anyway, without further adieu, here are the games the team — and their opponents — will break out the retro jerseys, back-to-back:
Week 5 vs. New England (Sunday, October 11 at 2:15 p.m. MDT)
Week 6 at San Diego (Monday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. MDT)
What do you all think? I for one am pretty excited about the eye-pleasing prospects.

ericsaites, because of our awful schedule, I see us in the 8-8 range. the good part about it is the teams in our division have a similar schedule so 8-8 might just be enough to win the division. our team is rebuilding. it will take time to develop a championship franchise.
about the Cutler thing, I just hope the Broncos organization learned from their mistakes so we don’t run Orton out of town. LOL. Dave, I do wish PB presented the phone records at a press conference. Cutler would be left speechless. I think he should present the phone records in front of the crowd right before the Broncos-Bears preseason game kicks off.! LOL
Its a tough schedule, the only upside I see our division has the same schedule. I love the away Cincinnati game (my ex wife got me and my daughter tickets, since she lives there). I’d rather play Indy at home and be on the road for the Cleveland game, but it will be interesting to see how Moreno’s speed translates on the turf. The Philly game is great to have on the road, a Dawkins’ homecoming. Realistically I see 8 to 9 games won this year, with the chance to play the upset roll in another 2 (depending on how fast the players adapt to the system). Now we just need to start the season and get the NFL network (Jamie Dukes) to start singing the praises of our beloved team. GO Broncos!!!
Armytom – We’re likely playing the Patriots in our throwbacks because that was the first team the Broncos EVER played (and won I might add)… My first question is why are we playing them two years in a row? Usually teams outside of our division, we play every three or four years, does that sound right?
I don’t care that we are because it will be awesome to beat them after the @$$-handing they just gave us….
I really do have a hard time understanding the mindset of “Hey, I’ll go to my favorite team’s website and let everyone know how negatively I feel about them” –
I’m sorry, but you closed minded $#%!!! – have you ever even heard the term FAIR-WEATHER FAN, because that is exactly what you are if for any instant, you aren’t of the mentality ‘GO BRONCOS!’
Anyway, sorry, enough with placating/encouraging the negativity, just HAD to get that off my chest even though others have said the same already, if not in those exact words……
I was debating which throwback jersey to get as well and have come to the conclusion – it needs to be a rookie (unless you can get former players), because these were our inaugural uni’s, and it will be that player’s inaugural year with us… Moreno (also because it honors Atwater and D. Williams) is the one I’ve concluded, but my second question now is: Can you only get replicas? No authentics yet, eh?
we ARE playing the Pats in our throwbacks… and I believe it was also the Chargers… They posted a blog about it a while ago…
As far as I’m concerned, Jay Cutler is for the history books like the year 1492. This may all play out all over again, for everyone to see if by some possibility, we face the Bears in a future Super Bowl Championship game. The media would go crazy with this hypothetical scenario and work to dig out everything they could to build up the match up.
For now, time to move forward and see how Orton/Simms work out. (Also tutelage of Brandstater).
Moreno will add plenty of spark to the offense. Surprised to see the signing of RB Darius Walker. This may not be a good sign for Torain. How long has it been since his injury? 7 mos ? Any word on Torains rehab ? Is he making strides or is going taking more time?
@#$% the Chargers and their powder blue. Make them pay in the white & brown.
lol
PJBRONCOFANPUNK We played the Pats LY cuz we played their division. This year we play them cuz we both finished second in our divisions. Each team plays every team in their division twice (1 home ,1 away), each AFC division plays an NFC division , and another division in their conference, and they play each remainding divsion team that finished in the same place. So we finished 2nd so we get the 2nd place team in the AFC South and East
(NE & Indy) and the whole AFC North and NFC East. We got screwed by our 2nd place, SD gets Tennessee and Miami which are alot easier games. Thats one reason you see alot of last place teams do good the next year(Miami, Atlanta)
Don’t you think its funny how there is over 400 comments on a blog about Legacy Games. I don’t think we got up to that many comments on a blog about FA. Man this is boring this blog was posted almost a week ago. Give us something new, a feel good story about the rookies maybe. I don’t know at least give us Fans something.
PJBroncofanFunk, ha, ha, tell us how you really feel. I understand and concur, completely. I just put it in lighter terms. During preseason, I will make my decision as to which jersey I’ll get. My Cutler jersey is getting retired to mothballs. I have many other Broncos garb I can wear. I’m thinking I’ll more then likely get a Royal jersey. He sounds like he’ll be with the team for awhile. Or maybe even a Moreno? Ayers? Dawkins would be cool. That would be a constant rub on any Eagles fans I would happen to encounter, lol. I order my jersey out here in Vegas and they get them to me in about 3 days. The letters and #’s are all sown on. Not a cheap jersey. My Cutler jersey was $118. It is an authentic NFL jersey.
Royalbroncofan1, I think I recall reading that Torain would be ready to give 100% by training camp. I hope so. He needs to show McD what Turner saw in him. If he can stay healthy, he’s a stud. I recall watching him in a few games in college at ASU. He was impressive.
As far as our games, I see no reason why Denver can’t start out 3-0? Maybe 4-0 if we can beat the Phallus Cowgirls in Denver. It would already make my season just knowing that Denver beat the Traiters and the Cowgirls in the same year. I’d be in pigskin Heaven.
BroncoAussie, look at the bright side, at least we’re talking.
Soooooo, how about them Nuggets, lol.
Haha, yeah how about them Nuggets. I agree with you Dynamicdave, it is possible that the broncos can start the season 4-0. All those games are winnerable. I believe how the team starts the season will define how the team plays out the season. We go 2-2 then the team plays average and doesn’t do so well. We go 0-4 the team is just F’ed. But if the team goes 4-0 then hopefully the team can build off that momentum and have a good season.
Thanks for the update on Torain Dynamicdave ! Much appreciated.
Yeah how ’bout them Nuggets !! Go Denver!!!
Check out this link about Rulon Davis. Hope he lives up to exceptions.

I like Dockers………
Haha, mondono hilarious.
I don’t think all these post are about the games. lol
I’ve been working the weekend and have to catch up. You guys are becoming garrulous. 404 blogs????
What’s the problem with signing another RB. Many TCs have 10 or more RBs. I think some of you guys are starting to lose you long term memories (maybe short term ones as well) LOL. In addition, Walker might turn out to be a durable and gifted back.
I’m not into uniform styles or colors. Don’t find myself caring much about that.
Deify
Thanks for the roster prediction. Got me thinking. I think predicting this year’s roster will be difficult. I do a sort of floating depth chart moving people as I get more information. This is my depth chart with my current 53 roster guess in bold.

I tend to ignore people who just enter a site to ‘bitch’ and moan. I’ve know too many women (or histrionic gays) who do that constantly and think they are being thoughtful. They’re just being bitches. Usually, they have little to add to thoughtful conversation. Bitching is not constructive criticism, which is always helpful. As the old saying goes, “Those who can’t, bitch!”
About the Cutler – McD saga. Nobody has yet demonstrated to me that McD did anything unexpected of a head coach (those who say “McD could have handled it better” have never defined how that might be. In the NFL everyone is constantly challenged, under review, and a commodity to be evaluated and exchanged for another commodity. Should McD have realized that he was dealing with an oversize ego that was apt to dramatize it owns importance and treated it like a ballet dancer instead of an NFL pro. Give me a break!”. Nor has anybody yet demonstrated to me that Cutler did anything that was mature, thoughtful, game tough or team-oriented. To have McD as his coach should have made Cut salivate – IMO automatic HOF. IMO Cut’s ego made him an idiot. Orton-Simms-Brandstater it is, with McD as their coach. “It is what it is” and it will be more than adequate, even exciting. I’m weary of the whining.
DD
I surprised at how much we agree about things. Who would have thought? LOL (Inside joke – we’re both from Las Vegas among other things).
There was some talk about Redzone. Imagine Graham and Quinn on the ends in the Redzone. “Run! No pass! No run! No pass! Bott!!” Talk about salivating.
BroncoAussie, good read. Yes, he sounds like a man of good character and heart and gameness. Isn’t it typical that after he suffered the injury that he did, that the military said, “Hell, sign him up.” When I was kickboxing, I was struck by a car when I was on a 10 speed. I had my vertebrae fused. The doctors wouldn’t clear me to fight in the ring again so I joined the Army. 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). They saw no problem with me and said, “Hell, sign him up!” lol. Sent me overseas to fight, as well as train troops in hand to hand, back home. So it is with Davis. He still could get the job done. His legs must have healed extremely well. I hope he makes the team. Last Marine we had was Anderson. We all saw his heart. Denver has talent. I just hope they bond/gel fast.
I’m sorry aboout having 100 post about Cutler. Well I just did 2 myself. The rest isn’t on me. It gonna be a serious season. B Marsh gonna B.O.O.C this yr. It gonna be to many weapon to double him.
With that message Ivan. I would say you read them all before you had your post. lol
Wow, Dynamicdave. Good insight man, always nice to hear about the guys that protect our shores. I hope Rulon Davis is a diamond in the rough like Wes was last year.
I think the whole Custard thing came up when someone wrote in talking about how Custard was wronged and McD is destroying the team and Denver will go 4 and 12 and the Raiders will trash Denver and the sky is falling and lions and tigers and bears, OH MY! (Sorry, couldn’t resist…)
BroncoAussie, Thanks for the link. Dockers are comfortable He He !
Yeah, Woodyard is a stud. Spencer as well. I like Barrett but he has some stiff competition this year. Hope he’s up to it. Boss needs to stay healthy or McD will show him the door. Champ won’t like it but he’s a pro and has class. He’ll handle it, should it come to that. I want to see Dawkins rip some heads off. Start with Bussle, I mean “Trussle”, I mean RUSSELL. Then move on to Homo, I mean “Rollo”, I mean ROMO of the Phallus Cowgirls. Then move on to Phallus Quivers, I mean, “Slivers”, I mean, RIVERS. Rip every one of their friggin’ heads off and sh!t down their necks…. OK, maybe I’m a little “over-zealous” but I think most are in COMPLETE agreement with me?
monodono, you should change your handle to “monodockers”, ha, ha.
UUB
Some I scanned because I’m not so interested in things like retro uniforms and the old Cutler drama. But it still took me over an hour.
Not bad reading though.
DD
I’m sure your right. There was a post by some exile or something that just raised old tired issues that are no longer relevant but give someone an opportunity to vent. The term is “annal expulsive” I think.
man, over 400 posts about our uni’s?
Hey Doc. No, little brother, not just the uniforms. Pretty much anything we can think of. Mostly small talk. Boredom, yuh know. We need some new stuff as far as Broncos news this next week.
we could talk about dockers. LOL
heres a question, if either Marshall or Royal had to be cut, who would you cut?
personally, I would cut Royal. I love the kid, but Marshall is more valuable.
I would help Marshall pack his bags. Royal has more value then Marshall. Does Marshall do punt returns? Can he do KO returns? Can he play out of the slot? Can Marshall stay out of trouble? Sorry, but Royal has more value, better character traits and IMO, better hands (if last year was any indication).
Ouch Dr Chris. That hurts to even think about but if we HAD to and there was NO other choice than I would pick Royal to cut also. I like how Marshall is a big physical receiver like T.O. He just has a way of breakin free and turnin that avg play into a big play.
Dave, Royal is never used on kickoff and sometimes even punt returns because of the risk of “injury”. can Royal catch a jump ball in the endzone? can Royal put up the YAC that Marshall does? heres the stats.
BMarsh: 6″4′ 230lb.
catches: 104
yards: 1265
avg.: 12.2
YAC: 4.2
TD: 6
Royal: 5″10′ 182lb.
catches: 91
yards: 980
avg: 10.8
YAC: 3.9
TD: 5
BMarsh wins in every category, he wins the job.
Dynamicdave: You do have some very good points about Royal and Marshall. Although I would pick Royal to cut I think if it came to it McD would chose to cut Marshall because of everything you posted. Mcd has made it clear he wants a player that is versatile and has good character. That would be Royal.
Sorry Doc, still disagree. Cutler always focused on Marshall, even when he shouldn’t have. Also, Marshall drops a lot of balls. Hopefully when he gets full feeling in his hand and forearm, it will be better but he won’t be “zoned in as much as before. It will get spread out more and Orton will do just that under McD’s plan. I also think character issues should play into this decision. Royal is all about the team and Marshall, well, he’s all about himself. You guys were right when you pegged him as another TO. In EVERY fashion. He needs to prove to me that he’s grown up and cleaned up his act. Stats are nice but they can also be misleading.
Did everybody read about how the Jets are looking at bringing Pacman aboard? That man deserves nothing, IMO. He is a trouble making thug who needs a humbling experience.
I agree Royal is the better person and would probably stay. Marshall just has to many problems off the field. Hope he can turn that round this year. But Marshall is more of a weapon and a TD threat that Royal. So it is hard to compare the two as they are completely different types of players.
Hope McD doesn’t read this blog because I think Marshall is in a contract year or getting close to the end of this rookie contract. Not sure if he has had an extension. So if he thinks Royal is better value then he may let Marshall leave, which is a big NOOOO.
I remember a game where Royal caught the winning TD between 2 defenders and then got a 2 point conversion to win the game using the exact same play. He can get the job done. And Royal DOES occasionally still run back PR and KO returns when the team needs a “spark.” He is a playmaker and plays with heart. He has more talent, more usage, more versatility. These are things that McD looks for.
I agree with you Dynamicdave, but I think each one brings something the other one doesn’t have. I would cut other players to keep the two. But since it is between these two I would say keep Royal for the reasons that DD said.
I also rememer that same game where Marshall caught 18 passes which was 2nd in NFL history for catches in a game.
Yeah, I would rather be blinded then to lose either of them. They make great bookends. With Stokley in the slot and Gaffney as a forth WO, mercy. Or Moreno running the ball till the D are forced to all play up on the line, then freeing up the WR’s to make that one play for the TD. Excited season to come. Stay tuned…..
Dr Chris,
I’d check BM’s health first. I was impressed during the 2007 season by how many balls he came down with taking them away from defenders. I was puzzled that in 2008 it happened infrequently. Then I read recently he was going to have further surgery on the hand he put through the TV set to try to restore feeling in his hand. I wonder if BM is the same receiver he was in 2007, or will ever be. Don’t want to start bad rumors, but I’d sure like to know if I was to decide between BM and Royal.
Just asking.
Haha it’s funny, we r fighting over Royal and Marshall. Who cares they are both on the team. How about this, Your in Bowlens position and you have to fire McD or X-men Xanders for a bad season who do you choose?
Doc, he needed to do that after costing the team by his suspension. Now, he may still face another (although it looks more and more unlikely). And keep in mind that if it wasn’t for Stokley, Marshall would have cost us a huge penalty with his glove antic. It’s always Marshall about Marshall. great talent, no brains or loyalty to the team. More interested in his image as another TO, then just playing as a member of a TEAM. Yes, I hope he changes his ways, but until that is proven, he will never be a complete player.
Xanders. My heart couldn’t take another HC so soon, lol.
Yeah I would say Xanders too. So there you go bowlen, if the team plays crap this year you have found your scapegoat blame Xanders.
Well, gents, it’s been fun, but I need to get up early tomorrow. Busy day. Darn sprinkler system is leaking underground and we have a company we use coming out to dig it up, find the leak and fix it. Then I get to redo the area they dug up with soil and seed and burlap. Plus some other areas that need it. It’s supposed to get to around 100 tomorrow. Fun, fun. The lawn is just the morning. My afternoon is filled. Might talk to everyone tomorrow night. Don’t trade Marshall or Royal while I’m gone, lol.
What the heck?!? This blog is still going!?! I figured me leaving this weekend, I would come back to find a new blog!
Dynamicdave… I blame you for this! lol
I gotta blame someone!
Ivan – I agree… with everything! From the roster you posted to the Cutler saga, and even the bit on bitching! Couldn’t have said any of it better! lol
It took forever for them to change the last blog too. That whole players number thing. It must just be because it is offseason and they don’t think there is a lot to talk about. I guess we will show them.
New blog please…..
I agree, SDBronco30, a new blog is long past due. Where’s the updates from Doom or even an off football subject from Coop? There’s always Saccomano’s blogs that are great Bronco history lessons. The one good thing about the silence of the blog area is were not talking about injuries that have happened or how our first rounders are looking horrible at camp (Heyward-Bey). One person whom I’d love to see a blog (directly from) is Pat Bowlen, though I doubt that would ever happen…Just a thought.
