Leading the Way

September 8th, 2010 - 11:52am by Gray Caldwell

Seven Broncos will help lead the team into 2010.

After a vote by their peers, Chris Kuper, Kyle Orton and Daniel Graham have been named offensive captains, Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins and D.J. Williams have been named defensive captains and Wesley Woodyard was voted special teams captain for the season.

It’s an honor Dawkins takes very seriously, and one that he said comes with plenty of responsibilities.

“Being able to answer tough questions when questions are asked, being able to stand up after tough losses and talk about things and being able to make the right decisions in tough, tough times,” the safety said. “(They are) not always the most popular decisions sometimes a leader has to make — you just have to be able to follow your heart and make the right decisions.”

Dawkins, Orton, Graham, Bailey and Woodyard were also captains last season. Bailey, Dawkins and Williams were 16-game starters in 2009.

“We are real proud of the group that will lead our team this year,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “We have talked before about the experience and the leadership and how valuable it is, but I think these guys do a phenomenal job — seven guys that we feel very comfortable with leading our football team. It’s a well-deserving group.”

Below are photos from today’s practice.

It’s all good just trying to defuse things a bit…

  4. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah Strandofts, seems like we are left in the dark a LOT this year.

  5. baylinorcrush says:

No problem, I’m wearing my green night time goggles, haha.

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Oh no, top of the blog again, I can see Brady Quinn’s pic again, LOL.

  7. strandoftds says:

You`d think that the night time googles would be for night games and not secrets. LOL.

  8. strandoftds says:

    Baylin

Heard what you said about Thomas being some kind of superman if he is a big contributor his rookie season. Two words. Eddie Royal. 91 catches over 900 yards. So its possible. And yea I know, we were cutler pass happy back then, it was a different system and RBs were dropping like flies but, its possible lol

i just read on yahoo there predictions for afc and they have the broncos last in the west, now i am convinced the experts know nothing or they must be talking about some other broncos because they are not talking about ours. THE MIGHTY DENVER BRONCOS

  12. ruga_rell75 says:

Ok imma say 13-3 and I know a lot of people are giving me the O_o look but hear me out….

I honestly believe we will be better because of what I saw from the first team this preseason but if we start dropping like flies then of course 13-3 can turn into 3-13 but all in all I have us losing to the COLTS..JETS (in OT) and spliting with those broke down dodge chargers….

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  13. 1nOnlyTRB says:

ps: and royal went through offseason, wasnt coming off an injury and played in preseason, but its still possible lmao

  14. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    ruga rell

injury is one thing another thing is sustaining drives for a whole game. they only had to do so for like a quarter. And sometimes it wasnt pretty but most times its was efficient. If we get “figured out” again like last year, we will be in trouble. Thats where running the ball and stretching the field comes into play. IT IS A MUST!!! I still say 7-9 tho, hopefully im wrong lol

    for my fantasy players

I went eddie royal over gaffney in later rounds and someone else took gafney. good move or bad move. (no one took lloyd which is funny since he is our #1 on the depth chart. He just dissapears too much lol)

  16. Yovi21 says:

I took him too…we will see in a couple days if Orton can find him this year.

  17. ruga_rell75 says:

TRB you right…I pray we don’t get figured out or spend toooo much energy on scoring in the first half…THEN we are more DOOM than ELVIS (I know it was corny don’t judge me) lol but imma try being positive..

    GO BRONCOS

  18. baylinorcrush says:

TRB, yeah, it’s possible Thomas could do great this year. I’d probably give it a 5% chance at best, anything is possible but when I’m talking I’m not looking at what’s possible, but what’s probable. Like when you said for months McD knew the value of Marshall and would keep him here regardless, or that no way McD would get rid of one of his first round pick after only a year so Phonzy was sure to make the team, those things were possible, doesn’t mean they happened. Arguing about what’s possible is the most futile exercise I can think of since everything is in essence possible in the football world, real constructive discussions are about what is probable, you probably buy lottery tickets, I never do, LOL.

  19. Orange_Crusher says:

Okay.. What if Orton goes down on the first play in Jacksonville and Tebow comes in and leads the Broncos to a 14-2 record and wins the SuperBowl in his rookie season!!!!!

    How possible is that!!!!??

    Woo Hoo…!

    Just kddn….lol

I see the Broncos comming out of Jax with a squeaker of a win..

    Denver 20

    Jax 19

    ILMSDB!!!!

What? We’re not starting the weekly picks because we don’t know enough about the team?? fooey on that!

LET’S GET THE PARTY STARTED BRONCOS!!!!!

  20. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

    Season Prediciton: 10-6

This Weeks Prediction: Denver 23 – Jax 17

  21. baylinorcrush says:

We are doing the record predictions thru Saturday and starting the weekly score predictions next week.

  22. Yovi21 says:

den-34 jax-17 ha sorry bay I had to get it out our offense is better that 20pts against an average team.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

If it doesn’t rain we might score that high, if it rains, which is in the forecast now, we’ll be lucky to score 20.

  24. IWILLX2 says:

Broncos-27 Jaguars-17. We will get better as the season goes on. we wont fall off like last year. IWILLX2
