Seven Broncos will help lead the team into 2010.
After a vote by their peers, Chris Kuper, Kyle Orton and Daniel Graham have been named offensive captains, Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins and D.J. Williams have been named defensive captains and Wesley Woodyard was voted special teams captain for the season.
It’s an honor Dawkins takes very seriously, and one that he said comes with plenty of responsibilities.
“Being able to answer tough questions when questions are asked, being able to stand up after tough losses and talk about things and being able to make the right decisions in tough, tough times,” the safety said. “(They are) not always the most popular decisions sometimes a leader has to make — you just have to be able to follow your heart and make the right decisions.”
Dawkins, Orton, Graham, Bailey and Woodyard were also captains last season. Bailey, Dawkins and Williams were 16-game starters in 2009.
“We are real proud of the group that will lead our team this year,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “We have talked before about the experience and the leadership and how valuable it is, but I think these guys do a phenomenal job — seven guys that we feel very comfortable with leading our football team. It’s a well-deserving group.”
Below are photos from today’s practice.

You must mean outside this site, because here so far 17 bloggers have picked us to go 10-6, and some have picked us to go even better, all the way to 12-4.
Like mex at 11-5, just on cue, haha.
I could of done without the B. Quinn pic, LOL.
I predict 8-8 plus or minus 4. In other words 4-12 to 12-4 hows that for wishy washy!
Today’s injury report is actually very encouraging only two players did not participate, all others participated fully:
Brown, Andre RB Toe FP
Graham, Daniel TE Chest FP
Harris, Ryan OL Ankle DNP
McBath, Darcel S Forearm DNP
Moreno, Knowshon RB Hamstring FP
Thomas, Demaryius WR Foot FP
FP-full practice
DNP- did not practice
But I guess it has to be read with a grain of salt because the new RB Brown has been declared unfit for Sunday’s game with his turf toe, yet he is listed as full practice…
Of course Harris could be a big loss if he doesn’t get better quick.
Yeah, that’s not a prediction, that’s playing darts, LOL.
I hope, and I hope to god that mcd and wink show us that they have something up their sleve. We need to open up that playbook.
We’re due to beat the Colts! 11-5!
Elway says he believes the Broncos will find ways to get Tebow on the field.
I wonder if it’ll be against the Jags ??
http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5iavSw7k0HFrHZ6hTbRHjG9Z5DV3Q
To me it’s definitely the game to bring in Tebow in the wild horse because we don’t have much of a running game now and we need to keep their D off balance somehow, not to mention that the only reason the stadium will be sold out is for Tebow, so he will make it on the field in my opinion.
I agree 100% bro !!!
Tebow is the hometown hero over there, pretty much like Elway for us, they will be chanting his name for him to come on in various situation, I would think McD will oblige them at least once, if nothing else in respect to the NFL fans, they are the ones who make it all work after all, might as well give them what they want, a glimpse of their man Tebow.
One question:Is Doom listed on IR,and if so does that mean he is not able to come back and play this year, cause if we was to stumble into the playoffs(9-7) or better ?? we sure could use him if he’s eligible.
Yeah,it’s prob eating the Jags’ fans up inside that they didn’t get Tebow and we did,but I bet he still gets a standing ovation, just because how much respect they have for their hometown hero.
Love to see Tebow make a play to win the game, what a bummer for them, hahaha.
Once placed on IR, you’re done for the year, no way back.
Doom,Stokley,McKinley, and White are all on IR and won’t be allowed to play the rest of the season,BUMMER !!!
But get well our Bronco family, and hopefully all 4 of them will be ready to Rock-n-Roll next year !!!
Thanks Baylin !!
That’s it, that’s why McD said putting Doom on IR was the hardest decision he had to make this off season.
BTW, Stokley was only put on IR until they could reach a settlement on terminating his contract, then he will be released straight out, he is no longer a Bronco is how I understand it.
Time to put up or shut up for Ayers and Moss, maybe both can ease our pass rushing woes, but remember Reid (who was cut) had 5 sacks last year,so that’s 22 sacks Doom and Reid combined,I got a bad feeling if we can’t get a pass rush or stop the run,we could be,never mind I don’t even wanna think about it.
Do you know that since Moss hurt his arm he is back in the doldrums as a back up and Hunter has taken his starting spot, kind of sad how things never work out real well for him so far, kind of like Lendale, but for different reasons. So it’s Ayers and Hunter now.
Oh didn’t know that.I thought he was cut, then seen his name on the IR list, thanks for the info.
Ayers has looked really good in the preseason and Hunter has looked pretty good as well and Mays has made a lot of good plays, but yeah seems like Moss will never get his shot,or maybe he will eventually he is still young.
Well I gotta catch some zzzzz’s, take her easy, later.
I think Hunter had 5 sacks last year at DE,maybe if he transitions well into an OLB,he can pick up the slack for the 5 sacks Reid had last year, now we only have to make up for the 17 Doom had,LOL.
I think Ayers is primed for a great year, since he has the starting job now.It wouldn’t surprise me to see him get 8-10 sacks.
Later.
I think we should use Tebow in a short yardage system, he can pass if he needs to along with taking it himself, hand it off, or the classic jump pass haha.
I think he’s too slow for wild horses!
Legwold now reporting what I have been saying and dreading here for a month:
The Broncos have pored over hours of video this week to get ready for Sunday’s season opener in Jacksonville.
But they may need to take a moment, take a break from third-down conversions, red-zone offense and special teams, to spend a few minutes with The Weather Channel as well.
This just in: Florida is hot.
I don’t like what I hear about Moreno yesterday and Harris and Mc Bath are likely out for Sunday as reported by Lindsay:
Moreno still appeared tentative during the part of practice that was open to the media Wednesday, and he lagged behind the other backs in a group jog.
“I just want to get back out there,” Moreno said before practice. “Basically, that’s what it all really comes down to.”
Coach Josh McDaniels said before practice that he was hopeful Moreno would progress — and not suffer any setbacks — each day this week. That will determine how much of the workload Moreno can handle against the Jaguars.
Kizla seems to agree with me that Moreno’s injury is much more severe than they have lead us to believe and I don’t like how Moreno has shown absolutely no confidence in his return, it’s as if HE knows the severity of his injury way better than others. Remember his hamstring did make a LOUD POPPING sound when he injured it, it may not be torn, but something had to give to pop, wouldn’t you think? Anyhow, this is what Kizla reports about it:
The biggest question mark on the Broncos is Moreno.
Why?
With all due respect to high-mileage veteran Correll Buckhalter and unproven free agent Lance Ball, there really is no Plan B for the Denver rushing attack. With Moreno fighting a hamstring injury that obviously seems much worse than originally advertised, do the Broncos have a leg to stand on when they need tough yardage on third down?
“There’s going to be a lot of rust to shake off, but I think I’ll be all right,” Moreno said Wednesday.
And Kizla also says:
Tebow is the stuff of dreams for the future. Moreno is what matters now.
It’s funny since I spent a long time here yesterday wondering why bloggers are so anxious to know about Thomas’ status when the status that really matters is Moreno’s, and I compared Thomas to Tebow saying this was not their time yet in Denver. Hi Kizla!
And Orton is talking like Forrest Gump:
“You never know what you have going into the season.”
It’s like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re gonna get (until you try one).
Well, gladly we are about to find out what flavors we got this year….
I’m adding Mecklenburg’s record prediction to the list: 10-6.
Sure you don’t moonlight at the DP baylin? Lol
Harris out? Not good. Ugh. Oh well.
Best way to get the inside news in the morning, certainly no inside news on national media worthy of checking out and news are pretty slow on this site, so kind of no other choice since we lost the RMN.
Haha Bay….
Its not that everyone doesn’t care about Moreno or anything like that! Obviously he is a vital part to our game and we all hope he has huge success this year for our team!! It’s just that people are used to seeing that big time receiver on the field, Marshall, and know that Thomas is the same type caliber player with his physique! It seems obvious that Moreno will be playing so I am not sure that many people are worrying! I mean he could have probably played against the Vikings but the coaching staff just wanted to play it safe!! Thomas just started practicing Tuesday so that’s why everyone is all over Thomas wondering when he’ll be playing including myself!!
We all know what he is capable of and want to see him out there and proving it!!
Plus you have to understand I think most people, myself included, are very eager to see what him and Dez do!! We picked Thomas and could’ve picked Dez, glad we didn’t, but could have!! So a lot of fans want to see big production from him asap!!
I love me some Broncos Country!!!
I think you might end up very disappointed this year with that outlook, absolutely nothing that has happened this off season points to a good productive season for Thomas this year, I know it’s hard for you young studs to be patient, but you would be probably better off doing just that, just my humble advice.
I do not understand why people want Tebow in running the ball…is he going to be a QB or a RB. I think by the pure fact that he only took one real hit in the preseason and injured himself, proves he doen’t need to be plowing into an NFL line. Lots of folks forget that he was bigger than most in college. The NFL is a different game. If you want him to be a quarterback then allow him to be one. But in this league you cannot do both. Using him to “save” our running game is not a bright idea. IMO
And another guy who thinks Moreno will be just fine, but sorry I don’t buy it, Moreno does not have that confidence in his speech, there is more to it that you guys think. Once again time will tell if I’m imagining things or if indeed there is some truth to what I’m talking about regarding Thomas and Moreno, and I can say my track record is pretty good, I usually don’t bring something up unless it is an issue that has great chance to develop, bottom line I don’t make a fool of myself very often here, we’ll see….
Tebow a RB, that was so out there I didn’t bother to address it…
I was watching Altitude Sports last night and Eddie Mack said that Moreno has a hamstring tear. Inside info I guess.
it seems to me that thomas is going to have a very similiar beginning with the broncos that marshall did. remember marshall was hurt all through his rookie preseason, and didnt really become a difference maker until his second season i think! im sure thomas will be on the field this season and prob even have some catches and maybe a TD or two but i dont think he is going to replace marshall his rookie year! i said it earlier in training camp that i thought Decker would have a better season than thomas (paraphrasing a bit) and would be able to help our team sooner than thomas just based upon his collegiate career and type of offense they ran in goffer land. but i cant wait till next year! just think….. thomas, decker, royal, with some gaffney and willis mixed in. could be scary for opposing defenses.
my 2 cents
Go Broncos
THE BATTLE IS WON IN THE TRENCHES
strandoftds, I also believe Moreno suffered some kind of tear, hence the popping sound, whether they acknowledge it or not, just my opinion.
Bay…
Obviously they are both problems that us fans go crazy thinking about but I am just saying Moreno is further along than Thomas and that’s why a lot of fans have been asking about Thomas because they would just love to see him out on the field!! I think Moreno will be fine, knock on wood! McD said he was ready for the Vikings game but that he didn’t play and they wanted to play it safe! I am sure that Moreno won’t have a huge game for us on Sunday granted he’s been out for so long but I am sure that he will play!! Plus I am wondering if Brown will play??? Apparently he has turf toe and everything even though he’s been out there practicing this week!
Would be nice to see both Brown and Thomas get their first NFL TD this Sunday!!!
One can only dream and pray!! Haha, but you never know!
I love me some Broncos Country!
If you take Tebow’s legs away from him and allow him to pass and not run you’re taking his game away from him (thats what makes him Tebow) nothing wrong with having a QB that runs the ball,a lot of NFL QBs run, they just gotta learn when to slide feet first and when to plow for the 1st down, nobody said turn him into a RB,you need to get your facts straight.
You try to turn Tebow into a pocket passer and you ruin his whole demeaner, besides nobody would draft him to be a pocket passer anyway.
BFE, before you get your feathers all ruffled up, you should take a close read as to why it was said Tebow should not be a RB, it was following what yovi said:

Always helpful to know where the conversation is at before jumping in, HAHA.
He didn’t quite say he should be arunning back but I can see how it was implied, taking it himself.
No big deal though, agreed Tebow needs to be Tebow, both arm mechanics and escaping pressure up field on the ground when it’s there.
But definitely not plowing it up the middle on short yardage was the point.
You can’t slide feet first when you are plowing it up the middle, LOL.
DON’T BRING PLAYERS BACK UNTIL THEY ARE READY OR YOUR ASKING FOR MAJOR PROBLEMS..
If Moreno isn’t 100% let him sit it out, remember when Champ had a hamstring issue,if you don’t let it heal it’ll nag you all year.
Thomas will be a Helluva WR next year, you can’t expect a WR that hasn’t had any playing time and hardly any practice to step right in and make an immediate impact, plus Thomas still has to learn routes, remember he didn’t do a lot of route running at GT.
