Kuper Returns to Practice

September 26th, 2012 - 11:48am by Gray Caldwell

On Monday, Head Coach John Fox said the team would take a “look-see” at guard Chris Kuper this week in practice.

It appears the look-see got started on Wednesday, as the team captain was on the field in full pads with the rest of the club for the start of practice.

Kuper hasn’t participated in practice since fracturing his forearm in training camp on Aug. 14.

On this week’s Elway Access, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway hinted that Wednesday’s revelation could be coming.

“He’ll be practicing and get back into the swing of things this week, so we’ll see how the week goes,” Elway said of the seventh-year veteran, who has 73 career starts. “Any time you have a guy that’s a team leader like ‘Kup’ is, it’ll be nice to have him back out there in pads and back involved.”

Kuper led the breakdown of the team’s huddle to start Wednesday’s practice, drawing cheers from his teammates.

In addition, three players listed by Head Coach John Fox on the postgame Week 3 injury report were back on the practice field — running back Willis McGahee, cornerback Tracy Porter and tight end Jacob Tamme.

The two other players on the injury report after the Houston game — wide receiver Matthew Willis and linebacker Nate Irving — were on the field for stretch period, but were not wearing pads.

Guys, Peyton and coach have press conferences on Wednesday, so if there is any news about McGahee or anyone else he will tell us. This is what Lindsay Jones said:

@PostBroncos: Willis McGahee (ribs) is at practice for broncos. Full roll call to come.

@PostBroncos: Chris Kuper is practicing too. First time since breaking arm in mid August

@PostBroncos: Not practicing: Nate Irving, Matt Wills, Quinton Carter.

@PostBroncos: Tracy Porter (knee) and Jacob Tamme (groin) are practicing

There is the possibility that if Kupe had been there against the Falcons – those INT’s would not have been thrown in the first quarter, Broncos don’t fall behind, and in the end they win. It depends on how significant you think pressure was in rushing Manning. To me it looked like Manning had the time and just blew the read. He was attempting to put touch on the pass when he needed pure velocity.

Manning was pressured a lot in the Houston game as well and I think Kuper would have even been more significant. Many of those 3 and outs would have gone for yardage with Kupe in and Ramirez out. My take. My opinion.

Turtle – when the Broncos win for 3 quarters and lose for one – especially when it is the first quarter that they are losing – that doesn’t equate to a talent issue – that is coaching – it looks to me that the talent that is lacking is that of the offensive coach of the Broncos to figure the schemes of the DC’s of ATL and HOU. Sorry buddy, I disagree with you on that one. Exception – Oline / Exception – maybe Adams. I think Adams was in the wrong position almost all game.

This is great news! Even at 50%, Kupe is still 100% better than Rimerez. O-line should get a big boost this weekend if he gets the green light.

  4. S.D.Bronco30 says:

Well, this should mean fewer holding penalties!

  5. CARAMELLOO says:

Glad to see that I’m not the only one who feels our OC holds us back on offense!

  6. strandoftds82 says:

Having Kupe back is critical to our running game and passing game both. Kupe will help set the running game in motion and bring balance to our O-line. Ramirez got man-handled in all 3 games. Stay healthy Chris Kuper, we need you badly throughout the season.

I’m with all of you on this. Let PEYTON run the SHOW!!

  8. DaddyBronc says:

Just a thought! I think the NFL needs to quit attempting to be ‘thought’ police.

I think refunds, for all who have been fined for speaking their minds, ought to be issued. I, for one, am sick of hearing from players and coaches who are afraid of speaking their minds. Discourtesy is one thing, not being able to point out error, fault, and responsibility is something totally other. The current system is un-American!!!

Alright great news —- we need Kupe back in the trenches to solidify the front unit!!
Hope he’s ready to get back on the field Sunday.
Ramirez was a band-aid who was holding (literally), but couldn”t cover the cut….lol!!

  10. killerkod says:

Doesn’t look like Kupe will play this weekend tho………..according to Lindsay Jones. But just having him back at practice is a huge plus.

  11. Royalbroncofan1 says:

BTW- Russ Hochstein was signed by the Patriots West… KC.

  12. killerkod says:

I think it’s time for McCoy to just let Peyton be Peyton and let him just call all the plays at the line based on what the D is telling him.

Hope if McGahee is good to go that the rib injury doesn’t impede him holding onto the ball. Hopefully it’s not that bad and the coaching staff just kept him out for precautionary reasons.

  13. strandoftds82 says:

DaddyBronc, that’s why I call Goodell a dictator. With a dictator there’s no freedom to speak your peace. Goodell needs to be fired! THIS AINT RUSSIA!! We are not a communist country, so this idiot needs to fall off of his high horse!!

  14. DaddyBronc says:

Careful Strand! Goodell is listening and will be contacting Gray to have you kicked off the blog. (ahhh….my suspicion is that’s the reason they never tell a blogger why they have been blocked. It’s all in the phone call from Goodell and the thought police who patrol the team blogs!!! LOL)

  15. DaddyBronc says:

I’ve had a preponderance of American – Soviet customers the last couple of weeks. They are an angry and demanding bunch.
(On Tuesday I had a young pregnant Russian who was so harsh that my installers walked off the job – I had to go finish the installation myself.) This is what happens when people in bondage get set free….

Could this be the cause of juvenile behavior by players on their off hours???

Could this explain the out of control behavior of players like OJ and… or even suicidal tendencies???

It’s all on Roger Goodell!!! LOL

    Someone was right….this is fun!!!

  16. monodono says:

Why was Knowshon a scratch last week? Is He ok? Will He be ready this week?

  17. DaddyBronc says:

You keep asking Mono, but….no confirmation… but KM stunk it up the first two games so bad that they sat him in favor of Hillman and Lance Ball. Looks like KM is practicing and is fine – he just is a practice and pre-season wonder and can’t cut it when games count.

  18. oldsouthstander says:

Mondo: Announcers alluded to Hilman being much quicker than KM. With speed of Houston, it makles sense. But, a pass blocker his isn’t..

  19. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

I hope that we can kick the Raiders butt this week. Im tired of people making fun of my beloved Broncos and Peyton Manning. We gotta win this one!

  20. Broncos20 says:

Dont worry Orange.. we got this game!!!! aha

*key factor: who will play MLB… the only threat is McFadden, take him out of the equation and interception-prone Palmer will be forcing things… there is a huge chance that McFadden will break a long run for a TD.. that will be my BBP for this game.. sack party peopl!!!!!!!!!!

  21. OrAnGeCrUsH56 says:

    I certainly hope so.

  22. monodono says:

Thnx Guy’s, I’m just really curious what’s up Knowshon is still listed on the depth chart as second. Did He get hurt 0r are they just feelin Hillman….I don’t think Hillman is ready yet and I’m curious about Knowshons knee… If McGahee can’t go is Ball our Guy?Ugh…We could be in real trouble if we can’t run the ball against the faiders. FTR!

I’m also concerned because I got McGahee on my FF TEAM, lol! Get Better Willis! We need Ya!

  23. monodono says:

Oh ya, I hope they don’t rush Kuper. I’d hate to see Him get hurt again. Give Him a week or so. I’m glad He’s out there and all but dont rush it.
