Earlier today, Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton spent some time talking with the Broncos’ flagship radio station — 850 KOA — about last night’s 23-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
In the locker room after the game, Orton expressed his disappointment with the final result and that feeling remained for he and his teammates this morning.
“Everybody was disappointed. We are disappointed today,” Orton said. “We are part of half the league that didn’t win their opener and have a lot of work to do to win their second game.
“One game doesn’t make a season… Like I said all along, we have good players on this football team and we just have to execute in key situations.”
Orton finished the opener completing 24-of-46 passes for 304 yards with a touchdown and one interception. He also lost one fumble.
Miscues in addition to penalties stalled the Broncos’ momentum last night and they proved to be too much to overcome.
“We shot ourselves in the foot one too many times,” Orton said.
The Broncos were forced to rely heavily on Orton and the passing game after the Raiders limited the Broncos’ running efforts early and jumped out to a 16-3 halftime lead.
Orton knows the Broncos need to establish a more consistent ground game as the season progresses.
“That has to be a big part of our offense this year and we’ve talked about it for a while and we worked a lot on it,” he said. “We’ve got some more work to do.”

On ESPN Broncos homepage
Moreno, Llyod, Dumervil, Willis listed as probable
Bailey questionable
Those were from yesterday though so I’ll check back later tonight if twitter or the DP doesn’t release something before then
Yea Orton and the neckbeard don’t get too many compliments in the looks department haha
Score prediction week 2: 23-17 Denver
Broncos: 17 Bengals 20
I just think we still won’t be able to stop the run and Benson isn’t that bad of a back so he could hurt us. We also don’t have Marshall and Stokely to bail Orton this season.
Knowshow Moreno is exactly who I thought he was……….A BUM!
He’s still ineffective…….and made of glass. I hope I don’t have to see him in a Broncos uniform for much longer.
*bail Orton out* although you could probably bale his neckbeard LOL!
Every aspect of what needs to improve have been beaten like a dead horse. Just go out there and at least put up a fight and maybe just maybe try and look like a football team and not a bunch of misfits.
So Moreno injured his hamstring….again….hmmm does he know how to stretch?
I think we could get a pretty good deal if we packaged Tebow, Moreno, and Thomas, for a premier DT and maybe a 2nd round draft pick.
Is Stokely available for Sunday’s game?
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
If the Broncos lose this Sunday against the Bengals, we`re in deep dodo.
If we go 0-4 we just might see Tim Tebow start at home against S.D. Oct.9.
I too loved that Woody article. Only the DP will show on my phone, so that night at work, I read it.
I sure hope, that last week was an eye opener for Orton and he realizes, he had better play better than his best football, because your best football doesn’t win games buddy. I don’t knock him for talking about not playing for the fans, etc. Honestly I would feel the same way if I were in the NFL, fans turn on you instantly, it is a love/hate relationship. Just like coaching to please parents when i was coaching Little League, no thank you.
Ok to be completely real. John Elway caused a lot of his need for those magical fourth quarter comebacks with mistakes early in the game. Honestly, he did. BUT the fans, the coaches, the owner, the trainers, the field maintenance crew, the press box, the cheerleaders, the Pope in the Vatican, knew that as long as #7 was in the game, anything could happen. With #8, once the score turns against the Broncos, everyone sighs, and the feeling of we are going to lose sinks in faster than when you lose a big bet on the casino floor in Vegas. It’s up to you and you alone, Orton. PROVE us (everyone who hates you, including myself after denying your lack of enthusiasm, your lack luster performances when it matters, you quivering scared inside the 20′s for going on three seasons now) that we are wrong. Don’t play to please us, play to prove us wrong. Hell find something that motivates you to actually WIN.
Dear Mr. Orton,
Do you remember the standing ovation you received in Chicago when Rex Grossman was benched and you entered the game? Did that not pump you up in some way? Did you not get excited? Were you not ready to prove yourself?
Sincerely,
Mr. Orton of the Chicago Bears
Strand, I caught Mike & Mike on ESPN and they made basically the same comment. There prediction was after maybe the 1st 5 games if we were like 0-5 or 1-4 they might make a change.
As far as the rest of the team. Why is Champ Bailey having to apologize for you? He could have walked and went elsewhere, but he didn’t, he stayed cause there is something in Denver that he believes in. If I were the rest of the team, I would find out what that was. Need to figure it out and like yesterday.
Last night at work, walking by a friend of mine, saw my hat and took it off my head. She said, here I don’t want you to embarrass yourself. (It is one of my 10 Broncos caps) Geez, that has never happened. Its not only Broncos fans that understand how big that Oakland game really was and how bad we did. Last 2 years, i have worked at the same place, never did I catch as much heat as after this last game. Crumbling 6-0 start, 4-12 season, oh yea, it was THAT big of a game.
stevecan2,
Do you honestly think he cares? I don’t. He has made it very clear that he is not doing this for the fans and doesn’t give a hoot what the fans think or want. You my good friend, are wasting your good breath on telling him anything. He is what he is and as far as he is concerned, we have to accept that or don’t. Doesn’t matter to him one bit.
I think one of Orton’s biggest problems in the redzone is he doesn’t want to take chances. Until he takes a chance and attempts tough throws in the redzone he’ll never be sucessful. While 3 points are better than none you don’t win too many games with “just” FGs. Honestly if it wasn’t Ball’s effort we probably would’ve settled for a FG. You gotta take chances though. Obviously don’t just make dumb throws, but you see a guy somewhat open fire a laser in there down and low, or even God forbid you run it in and dive. You have to take chances to win they’re not going to be handed to you on a platter.
Maybe just once the crowd should chant “Orton” and see if that pumps him up???
You are right about Ball’s hurddle TD on 3rd down, if we wasn’t for that extra effort we would of had to settle for yet another FG. I think what might get Orton going is an helicopter of his own, LOL.
You are kidding–right?
And for the taking chances on his passes in the red zone, he had three chances in the zone in the 1st qtr. which the receiver was wide open on I think 2 of those and the ball didn’t even make it to the receiver.
hurdle
seweatherman1,
I know but I also know that his wife, sister, mother, father, etc. Read headlines and especially the DP. So weather he cares or not, he knows what is being said. My brother is a politician, I know the game.
brain,
he got a standing ovation in Chicago, and nothing…
Oh, I know Orton’s sis pays attention to what we say about Orton, LMAO!
I know people in Iowa that get more excited going out harvesting beans than Orton does playing in the NFL.
That was a fugile attempt at humor, in the letter, etc. Guess stevecan2 jokes = epic fail. Hmmm, no wander why I defend Orton so much in RL.
lol, i forgot about sndvl…
*correction, the 59-14 loss was worse, but only when we lose to the Raiders do I hear about it. Everyone knows the Bronco and Raider rivalry.
He is a new father so maybe someone should tell him how being the kid of someone in the public eye works. If you’re the kid of a successful person well then you’re obviously bound for success. If you’re the kid of a un-successful person well then you’re obviously bound for a train wreck. Orton should perform better so his kid won’t get rediculed for his poor performance.
Orton and Fox say “We are part of half the league that didn’t win their opener, one game doesn’t make a season”.
Does it really comfort them to tell themselves (it’s okay to lose because other teams are losing to)…
How pathetic…
That is not a statement that would come from the mouth of a winner, a champion, a fighter, someone who will lay it all on the line to win!
That is a statement of someone who is content with losing and apperantly not even worried or concerned about a dumb football game…. One game, ten games, twelve games, it obviously doesn’t matter to them as long as they can point the finger at other teams and say “see, it’s okay to lose because they are losers too”.
I guess thats the reward we get for lining Ortons pocket with 9 million dollars and handing him the starting QB job on a silver platter without even giving either one of the other QB’s a chance to practice with the first team and then lie to the fans and say “it’s a fair competition”…. that was all Bunk!
It’s really all Fox’s fault for letting Joshs’ boy McCoy run the offense. You could just as well remove the “Coy” and put in “Daniels” behind the “Mc” and get the same results.
Oh, but everything is okay because half of the leauge is losers too… I feel better now, thanks for the words of encouragement Ort/Fox…
being a new father could have had a big impact. I know that is HUGE and even NFL players are susceptible to the woes that it brings. I took that into account. Especially after the Jake Plummer downturn when Pat Tillman died. But, I don’t give him any slack (orton) cause its not uncharacteristic of him. just sucks that no matter what as long as he is QB1 in Denver i will defend him in person against anyone. I open up a lot more here, because this is almost family.
I wonder if McD is sitting in his office somewhere reading up on the broncos and just snickering away…………..like an evil mastermind who is relishing the work he did to help destroy this organization.
I don’t know, let’s do some figuring. I raised 4 children on less than 25,000 per year income, and he makes what per year? He will teach his child to be exactly like him. Just watch.
I look at the Fox comments different than Orton. When Fox says it, I understand that he is the public figure of the Franchise and in that position you must keep a calm about you. But that is extremely hard to take, in the circumstance we are in now. A buddy of mine and I talk about it often. How during press conferences Bill Bellichick will say things like, we tried some things, they didn’t work, etc. That works when your BB not John Fox in Denver.
But that is who we have at HC. Watching Delhome cry when he was released from Carolina makes me wander though, Fox obviously has his players support, but is it only because he is too scared to “lose” the locker room. Being a leader determines hard, sometimes unpopular decisions. Maybe why as a HC he is now 71-74. just a thought. BUT not in the McD fashion, you have to be a proven winning leader before you can pull what he did.
Man, weathermen don’t make very much money…
I make less than that now on disability! Thank God the children are raised. Now just have 7 grandchildren to worry about along with everything else.
Wow! sounds like you are very busy…are you raising those grandchildren to be Broncos fans?
Absolutely!!! As a matter of fact one of my youngest plays for the Broncos in his little football league.
Wow, sounds like you are very busy. Are you raising those grandchildren to be Broncos fans?
sorry, accidentally re-posted. Nice to hear though!
anyone else, get locked out of the boards???
maybe its a sign. idk
good job, seweatherman1, i was born a Bronco fan, have known nothing else. got to keep it going throught the generations. btw I make 35,000 a year on a normal salary, work about 60 hours a week. So, I get the comparison.
err I meant blogs.
does anyone here post on the boards though? I have never seen the same handles, so I just skip on by em. keep it here, I like familiarity. hahaha just not the losing variety, getting tired of that.
oh how I await the day, where it’s, did you see that 99 yd TD by Royal (Welker IRL) etc
I did mine in firefighting and law enforcement.
awesome sesweatherman1. Thank you. I will appreciate the heroic efforts of LE and FF across the nation. I got a BA in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Assets Protection Management, when a career in law enforcement was denied for me due to one unfortunate incident. I went the whole, being a consultant route and at the moment am awaiting an opportunity to use the degree.
Good luck to you!
I meant, * I have always appreciated the
two of the most selfless careers imo
makes me think even less of some of these NFL players honestly. Geez, what it would be like to play a game for a living and have such an instant impact on so many lives. Some players, cough, just DO not get it.
Let’s bench Kuper while were at it. Moreno, he’s cost us plenty with his turnovers the last 3 seasons, lets bench Royal cause since his rookie year he has too many drops, let’s bench Franklin cuz he is having problems adjusting. While were at it, may as well swap out the entire first team O-line, save for Clady.
No?
I got it!
Bench Orton! That will solve all of our problems on offense!
Ha! I have a better idea, play Tebow at H-back. That should instantly improve our run game…
Though if our D can’t stop the run, does it really matter who plays for us on Offense?
Just sayin
Listen to what he just said. He doesn’t give a hoot. So why and the heck should we give a hoot about him. I haven’t here but I put my life on it, that to all my friends, etc in person. I defend him to no end. I am done. At least give the fans a reach around every now and then.
So – if we’re 1-4 or 0-5 after 5, and Fox switches to Tebow, it won’t be because of Orton … he won’t be the reason for that awful record – it’ll be because our team ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH .. and there’s no way Tebow can change that … but you Tebow wonks will be so happy, because you won’t care that we’re still losing, you’ll just be happy that your guy is taking the field … that may be ridiculous, but it passes for satisfaction in Bronco country … it will be very interesting to come on this blog and see what’s being written when that happens …
Obviously, I’m not happy about Orts performance like everybody else. But on a night when there was plenty of blame to go around on all 3 units (O, D & ST), I guess being the QB, he takes the brunt of the finger pointing.
Too bad for Champ. I hope he is a quick healer. At least he kept McFadden out of the end zone.
He doesn’t even care. He gets his paycheck. He doesn’t want to please even those that believe in him. Sad, sad man he is.
If I believed even with how he responds to the bad times, that inside he has an ounce of desire to turn it around and come out next week wanting to do better, I would not quit him. I just learned the hard way, when I HATED Cutler, deep down, he has the fire and goes to astronomical means to hide, all the things he did for the community and the all of the millions he had donated to charity, etc. To keep it low key, and so he gets no credit for giving what he believes is a gift. All we get from Orton, is f off.
