Kansas City Strikes First

January 1st, 2012 - 2:57pm by Kenny Legan

The Chiefs are the first team to put points on the board today courtesy of a 21-yard touchdown run from Dexter McCluster with 11 seconds left in the first quarter.

McCluster took the handoff to the left side from quarterback Kyle Orton, cut back to the right and raced to the front pylon for the score. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound back is the leading rusher for the Chiefs thus far, running five times for 60 yards and the score.

Kansas City has controlled the game for the majority of the quarter. The Chiefs have gained 162 yards and nine first downs while the Broncos have just 16 yards and are still seeking their first first down of the game.

Denver will open the second quarter with second-and-8 from its own 22-yard line.
