Via his Twitter account, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway commented on the team’s visit with free agent quarterback Peyton Manning today in North Carolina.
“We enjoyed visiting with Peyton today in N.C.,” Elway wrote. “He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there.
“Watching him throw today was the next step in this important process for our team and Peyton,” he continued. “It was a productive visit and went well.”

This will be a great decision if he is used to mentor Tebow…making sure that the team has a great quarterback in the foreseeable future. Do not trade the young HIGHLY motivated player in the league. He is an ambassador for the team that money can’t buy!!!
Tim is a great leader and a great athlete with a huge heart. But the problem is he sees himself as a quarterback…maybe in college…but not the NFL…sorry Tebowites. I wish he would see himself as a “Dallas Clark”. But that will never happen and unfortunately after reading how crazy passionate the fans are about Tebow it will be in the best interest of the broncos to trade him.
For all you saying you won’t wear your leather jacket, won’t acknowledge ever being a Bronco fan, you’re leaving forever…… see ya’. Don’t let the door hit ya’ where the good lord split ya’. Go root the for the Niners, ultimate fair weather fans and you can be like their baseball fans and do a half time (7th inning) pilates. Boo friggin’ hoo. Tebow hasn’t even been traded and might not be but go ahead, leave…..PLEASE,….I’m begging you.
Greatest free agency acquisition in the HISTORY of the NFL! This is the consensus of the experts, coaches, players and commentators today after the news broke that PM was coming to Denver. I am ecstatic as well should all Bronco fans be. A QB worthy of the Elway mantle and it was Elway that pulled the trick.
As to those Tebow fans that are excoriating Elway and the rest of Bronco management for making the acquisition, I feel sorry for your shortsightedness. Tebow cannot stay in Denver for his own good. He cannot back up PM because he cannot throw the precision passes that a PM offense requires. And if he were to be used in spot duty there would be no surprises as the defense would know what was coming. When Denver lost with Tebow, they were blown out because the opponents figured the offense out. Even when they didn’t figure it out, the wins were all close and come-from-behind. Luck had a part but I always say it’s better to be lucky than good. Denver will acquire a quarterback worthy of learning from the master next year and the remaining 3-4 years of Manning’s hall of fame career.
Denver is instantly a super bowl contender. Free agents will line up to become Broncos and play for Manning. Ironic that the Colts have provided the two best QBs in Bronco History. And PM will be a Bronco until he retires. He would have stayed in Indy had he not been run off, so we know he is loyal and likes stability. My guess is all Bronco fans will be comfortably back in the fold once we easily win the AFC West and go deep into the playoffs.
I do have a suggestion for PM. Since the No. 18 is a retired Denver No. (Kelly Tripucka), it would be a magnanimous and respectful gesture for him to change his number even though Tripucka has given his blessing for PM to use the number.
If Tebow is willing to have a great mentor to show him how to make the proper reads, proper decisions on when to throw the ball away, when to call a changeup and hand the ball off then Manning is the one to teach him. I hope that most will understand Manning is not selfish, he restructured his contract twice with the Colts for less money to keep players on the Colts roster to keep a good team together. I don’t think Manning would mind mentoring Tebow to better hone his skills when it is time to take over the Broncos as he likes to see his team succeed even with him on the sidelines. And not to mention all of that but also with Tebow’s running ability he nows has the oprotunity to be great in all aspects of the gam so now it’s up to the owner and Elway to make that decision.
You guys know your on the wrong blog rt, its number 2 on the list. This was yesterdays blog
Denverscott, Lmao bro that post was funny stuff. Ive been hearing the same stuff on the other blog all day see you guys later. This is the best move, ive seen for alongtime in denver, ive been a fan since 72
I second denverscott’s comment. Any true Broncos fans would not change teams over a move that makes the Broncos sooo much better. I respect what Tebow did for the team and wish him well, but I’d much rather have an elite QB. Also, look how much Peyton improved the Colts WRs. I can’t wait to see the Broncos WRs shine!!! The defense will also be fantastic because they’ll actually have time to rest with a productive offense.
Fishman, you obviously don’t understand NFL football if you don’t know that the best quarterbacks need time to develop. Look at TT after a season and a half, division title and playoff win. Matt Ryan has never won a playoff game! Your just a ship jumper like the rest don’t act like we’re all dillusional here, I know a winner when I see one and I just hope TT doesn’t come back to haunt us if we trade him.
if i was to give up on the broncos it woulda been during the mcdaneils era… tim your a great athlete and i believe with ur work ethic youll be a good qb but manning isnt as much work and were ready for super bowls now we cant sit back in hope u can learn how to be consistent in throwing against guys like brady, manning, brees, and rodgers. i wish you the best and i hope denver holds on to you but if not good luck
Jumpship?? Whos jumping ship? If TT is a Bronco or not I still am a fan. What an athlete!! What a great guy!! But I do know NFL football jsizzla and an NFL quarterback must have a quick release because the margin for error is so small at NFL speed. You can see TT wind up to throw before the play starts!!
Now it takes more than ability to be successful in the NFL…I know this because I know NFL football. John Elway had the ability but he needed a lot of help to win. TT has a lot of great attributes but lacks the ability. It all starts with the ability. Tebow won a division title because the division sucked! Now…he won a division title because of a stud defense and an awesome kicker and a lot of luck.
You bronco fans are weak! you have no idea if manning will be as good as he was four years ago. We all better hope he is bc we bet the farm
Actually i hope he suck so i can watch all you manning lovers turn around and cry why why why why why to elway when this blows up in our face
@ColoradoBoy WOW wishing that against your own team? We lost several key players on the Colts and I still hope they do well this season as well as the change for the Broncos I also hope they do exceptionaly well- possibly SB bound with the new aquisition of Manning and possibly jeff Saturday and maybe Dallas Clark. All that anger over one player and not the whole team.
Yeah, I wanna hope we pull out 6 come from behind wins again. I think a 4 time MVP vs what we had last year is a farm I will bet all day long.
I think the Broncos have made a great choice! It will be nice when the stadium is full of Broncos fans again, instead of Tebow fans.
whatsleftinden- who says the stadium wont be filled up with Peyton fans instead of Denver fans? I agree, it was a great choice…but still a dumb comment.
im die hard broncos fan. go tebow. go manning. im rooting for the broncos. go D!!!
Steelers can’t match it. They are only about 10 million under right now. His tender is only for about 3 million so an extension would push them over.
Not including having to sign other free agents and draft picks
neandrthal29…..my bad….1 playoff win in that time period.
Im a Hardcore Bronco fan no matter what happens, have been all my life always will be. I want Tebow to stay but if not, Im still here for the Broncos and always will be. I bleed orange and blue and always will nomatter what. The only thing ima be peeved about if Tebow leaves is that I wasted money on his jerseys and now I wont be able to were them, I hate wasting money like that!
May i ask what you Tebowers dream of at night?
Even if the Broncos would be willing to keep TT – he by himself won’t be willing to play as a Backup for PM since he smelled the taste of being in the Starter-Spotlight.
So i say there will be Black Snow outside all over Denver before Tebow stays with the Broncos to play the ultimate Benchsitter after the Pre-Season ends because that’s all a Backup-QB gets once Peyton finds his form and confidence with his new team!
Also i simply don’t understand why some of u seem to be in need of crying a River for the average QB that Tim Tebow is – let’s face it:
Reason 1:
Tebow can’t throw the Ball at all while Peyton Manning is a simple Master at it – he’s the man to throw Bombs like Elway did about 15-20 years back and which Real Broncos-Fan wouldn’t want them back for gods sake? – 1:0 for Manning
Reason 2:
Tebow struggles with certain Play-Calls not because he lacks athleticism or muscles, no but because of beings unable to read the plays Hawkeyed, while Manning has influenced the Colts-Playbook for 1 and a half decade like noone else – Manning thinks Football, manning lives Football, and the most important paer – Manning UNDERSTANDS Football – 2:0
Alone for those two reasons Manning provides a huge upgrade compared to Tebow.
The only thing that TT would “Sack” PM at is running the football, but as far as im concerned a running Quaterback unable to read certain Plays has never won his Franchise a single Superbowl.
Once the Broncos are lead deep in to the Playoffs and maybe even the Superbowl Finals u won’t shed the tiniest tear for the Average Joe we had before, because you all will be busy with running off and buying Peyton Mannings Bronco-Jersey – i say let the Kid go for good!
I personaly think this is a mistake. This man has played 15 years been injured badly even though he was well protected in Indianapolis. So they are going to sign him to a 5 year deal and what do we do with the future? Hope we can get lucky and get a solid draft pick late…..Joe Montana does not happen very often.
I did enjoy watching the way TT elevated the game of every member of that team last season. I know and fully understand he had a lot to work on. But having the ability to be a winner and never being out of a game is rare. I remember when Elway sucked too, but the front office stuck with him….
ARE YOU STUPID???? You are going to trade Tebow a young player for an old washed out guy who just got let go from the team that made him famous really come on wake up and smell losing seasons from here on out. I have been a Broncos fan since I was a kid through the good times and the bad. Now with this stupid decision makes me think it is about time to find a team that actually has brains!!! REALLY REALLY Peyton Manning did you guys have your blinders on when you see him WASHED OUT that is all he is. You had better read alot of these post no one likes him and you have alot of fans that are very upset and mad that you would get rid of Tebow after he pulled you guys out of a hole. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!
GOOD GO’N ELWAY.
WAY TO INTRODUCE MANNING TO HIS NEW HOME
BY TELLING ALL THE FANS
TEBOW MUST GO……. TEBOW DOESN’T HAVE TO GO – YOU THINK YOUR WAY IS THE ONLY WAY ELWAY – I’VE ALWAYS LIKED YOU UNTIL I SEEN HOW YOU TREAT TEBOW.
Peyton Manning has been my QB in Fantasy Football for 10 years. He was my second pick last year and didn’t play….. so….. you would think out of all the Bronco fans I’d be sooooooo happy you brought him in……
HOW CAN ANY OF US BRONCO FANS BE HAPPY WHEN YOU THROW TEBOW AWAY??? WE WAITED AND WAITED AND WAITED FOR A QB LIKE TEBOW TO COME ALONG – HE’S BETTER THAN ANYONE WE COULD EVER IMAGINE – THE YOUNG MAN IS SO COOL…..
HOW CAN I BE HAPPY MANNING IS HERE WHEN YOU TRASHED TEBOW?
LMFAO!
Look….I really wanted to see Tebow learn! I wanted him to succeed! And in many instances, I think he did just that this past year!
However….I think we’re reading WAAAAYYYY to much into this Tebow trade stuff.
I HONESTLY believe that the front office would love nothing but to keep Tim. BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE PEYTON WILL NEVER ALLOW THAT! you know why??????? BECAUSE EVERYONE AND THEIR BROTHER KNOWS THAT THE FANS…YES THE FANS HAVE A VOICE WITH THIS ORGANIZATION! REMEMBER LAST YEAR? They didn’t pull the plug on Orton because they thought Tim was better, they did it becasue the fans demaneded it!!!!! They did it because the yelling was SOOO loud it was inevitable what needed to happen.
Now…you have Peyton Manning (who at 65% is better than a 100% Tim) and you think for one minute Peyton is going to put himself into a situation where when that first bad game, the crowd starts chanting TEBOW…NO WAY!
I guarantee you one of the first things to hit the table the very first time Peyton came to town was where Tim was going because they can’t co exsist……and you know why? Because the fans won’t allow it!
For the record! I was actually looking forward to Tim’s progress but in know way am I willing to pass on Peyton..I don’t care how many surgeries he’s had…They said he’s ready and that’s enough for me.
Also, for the record…the same gamble that people say we take on Peyton is the EXACT same gamble others are taking on Tim becoming a better quarterback! High risk, high reward! It’s that simple.
Lastly, and I apologize cuz I know this is long…but what’s it say when so many others in the league are over the top hyped about this? Are they wrong? Do we know more about the game than they do? How about Seymour’s comments “I thought having 5 kids kept me up at night, now I have to deal with Peyton again?” LMFAO!
My point is this is a once in a lifetime acquisition. Is it risky? Yep…but so isn’t Tim and his future as a NFL quarterback.
The bottom line is Tebow vs. Orton set the stage for Tim either being a clear cut starter to competition in Denver or he was going to go…because he will NEVER coexsist with any other QB…..not unless the owners are willing to have a revolt on their hands.
No way was the front office going to put Peyton in that position!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
Being a Bronco fan since the franchise started I suppose I must add my 2 cents to these long long threads.
Comparisons between youth and old Hall of Famers seems to be a waste of time to me. There are too many years between them. When Elway and Peyton were in their primes, they were in different seasons. They had their moments but they are both old timers in this league.
Actually Peyton is one of my all time favorite people. As a marketable quarterback, not so much anymore! He was younger and more flexible when he had his first neck injury. Now he is in more danger and could last only two years. I know from personal experience how injuries add up. They don’t decrease. They only increase. On the other hand, I think Tebow has at least 15 Great years in him. I mean Great years!
Denver is giving Manning a chance to play out some of his personal “bucket list” goals and so Manning gets more out of this deal than the Broncos. I am not on the bandwagon for this expensive deal. We’d better have a good back-up quarterback and there won’t be anyone available as good as Tebow.
Peyton will get extra care from the referees this year but that won’t be enough to save him, or the Broncos. Time is now our enemy.
John Elway has to go. I like Elway as a player he was great but not as a general manager. He is messing up my team denver. Keep Tebow and get rid of that over the hill Payton Manning he is not good anymore and is broken down. I go to at least 4 games a year and I dont want to see manning. Mayby we should get rid of Jonh Elway.
I don’t think Peyton is really giving any thought to Tim Tebow other than wishing him the best whether he is a Bronco or not…I really don’t think TT will want to hang around here with all the idol worship.
EFX did an amazing job at recruiting Manning and whether the TT fans will ever admit or not this was the best thing for the Denver Broncos. I honestly just don’t get it. He had the worst qb rating in the league folks!! I am just glad EFX is running the organization and not some of the fans on the blogs. Go Broncos!!!
Fishman, I don’t know how you read stats. It doesn’t make sense to say that a rookie who wins has the worst rating in the NFL. What numbers matter to you? Do you pick and choose only passing ratings? Or do you think that statistics are the true measure of a man? All I know is that I can use statistics to prove anything, but the winners just win. I know how pitifully useless numbers can be. Look at all the first round picks who never produced in the NFL. Cmon Man!!!
I like Peyton mostly because of the way he dealt with the Katrina Hurricane. He went there personally to help. He didn’t donate a penny to any organiztion but went there to make sure that his money went to the needy. Peyton is a great American. Whether he can win another Superbowl is questionable.
Correction on my earlier today post. First line should read “…….nearly since it started.”
Everybody that is backing TT obviously missed last season or just caught highlights. Everytime someone comments on TT’s abilities they say “Great athlete”, “Great guy! NEVER do they say “Great QB” “Great pocket presence” “Great arm”. Unfortunately great athlete, great guy doesnt win NFL championships. Great athlete, Great guy doesnt put the ball in the numbers on a quick slant route. It puts the ball in the grass or out of reach (where most of his passes ended up last year). I love TT he brought something to the Broncos you couldnt quite explain. Last season i was chanting TEBOW TEBOW sitting on the edge of my chair praying that he pulled another one out of his butt. But i found myself praying damn near every game! Trade him or keep him, Peyton Manning is JUST BETTER!
I can feel your pain Orngnblu! I was praying right along with you. I agree that Manning is a better quarterback. He is one of the greatest ever. Legends are made by great men like John Elway and Peyton, but I am just saying what about the long term? the long term in the NFL (for me) can mean six years. I really like Manning but I don’t like the six year future. Manning has already had his time in the sun. He would be very very very lucky to ever get back to one more superbowl.
Young firemen like Tebow have a fireman’s chance. AND! they will be around a long time. I don’t think a real fan should diss the great players, especially those great Broncos. The issue for a old timer like me however, is how many superbowls will we win after 2013? I am not satisfied with just a year or two of being close. John E. won two in a row. That is what I want to see. How about three more Broncos superbowls?
When our beloved champion (John) retired from football I know how hard that must have been for him. He was one of the lucky ones who went out as a winner, but it was still just as hard as it might have been for a Brett Farvre or an Archie Manning. They all have to give it up some time.
I wonder if John is reliving his past. I wonder if he is vicariously living Peyton’s trials as an old hall of famer? He must feel the pain that Peyton feels to some extent. When you give up the spotlight of the NFL, you are always still young. The body of an NFL athelete must be literally young. Peyton is older and quite damaged. John is there to help him. I wonder if John is slipping in his judgement due to sympathy.
