Via his Twitter account, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway commented on the team’s visit with free agent quarterback Peyton Manning today in North Carolina.
“We enjoyed visiting with Peyton today in N.C.,” Elway wrote. “He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there.
“Watching him throw today was the next step in this important process for our team and Peyton,” he continued. “It was a productive visit and went well.”

I think you are spot on, Tide. No one will ever convince me that Elway does not, and never has, wanted TT. I think they threw him out on the field to fail. Those sour looks we saw from Elway in the owner’s box were not a coincidence when TT was winning. TT was screwing with his chance to get Luck, pure and simple.
I hate every bit of this. It stinks and makes me sick. TT worked his butt off for the Broncos…and this is the thanks he gets.
Hey Tide, sorry about Bama.. I agree, it would be a sad day if Tebow leaves, and I for one would like to see the circus stay in town..
As far as Tebow knowing or not knowing, I just can’t intelligently comment on it, b/c I don’t know the facts.. But for arguement sakes, let’s assume the worst, and assume Tebow had no knowledge of us pursing Manning.. Now, for the record, I’m not necessarily defending the FO, but this could be their train of thought.. Perhaps they thought that by them saying publicly that Tebow was the starter going into camp showed an sufficient level of support for the young QB.. They also made it very public that they would be bringing in at least one QB, maybe more, either in FA or through the draft.. So it’s not like Tebow had NO idea that we were looking to bring in another QB.. Now, I understand that Peyton Manning is not your average QB, so they could have made the extra effort to reach out to him directly given the magnitude of the whole thing.. I hope they did personally, but I could see how they could have felt they sufficient addressed the situation..
Main, I’ve always been an Elway fan, and I like Fox as a coach. I also love and admire Tim Tebow, and was glad to see him become a Bronco. But, I swear, I hope Tebow goes to a team in 2012, that wants him, has faith in his development potential, and will actually help him become the quarterback he wants to be for his team.
And, for those things you wrote above…..it wouldn’t surprise me if all of it really is true.
At any rate, being a Broncos fan that supports not only our current QB, but the entire team, makes it a bit frustrating to read and hear how little support, regard, or consideration the organization has had for him during this ultimate quest to land the great Peyton Manning. It’s almost as if they don’t feel they owe Tebow anything, not even a courtesy call to say, “hey, we’re going to try to get Peyton to Denver, just in case you hear it on TV or the Internet.” He probably thinks/believes it would take the monkey off their back if he DID ask for a trade, and then they wouldn’t have to try to get rid of him themselves, anymore. I would.
OT, you’re right that it was public knowledge they would bring in at least two more QB’s. Still, he probably believed he had a chance to compete, regardless of whom they brought in. With Manning, Tim doesn’t, not at the price it would cost and the expectations that came with him.
It doesn’t really matter at this point, though, as far as I’m concerned, because I truly don’t believe Peyton will be a Bronco next year….not since TN and SF got in the mix.
That’s just my opinion, though. We’ll know next week, I guess.
It is funny how people act when it is a qb they like as a person….Cutler was a better qb than Tebow.:..yet when they went behind his back to get CASSELL no one was defending his asking to leave….hilarious. Then people realized it was a business but suddenly Tebow is owed something….funny. Manning is better than Tebow and Tebow is still a gamble. He may never learn to play the game. This FO owes itself to make this team better.
I feel like I work in the Denver Broncos public relations department… If they’re listening feel free to send some cash..
I agree he must have thought he would be able to compete, but what about the injury risk to Manning? That in my mind gives him more a chance than with another team..
I still think that Tebow’s best chance to be a starting QB in the NFL remains in Denver, with or without Manning.. Like you say, the chances look slim that Manning comes to Denver, at which point Tebow is the starter going into camp.. As much as it pains me to say, but if the teams looking for a QB were a game of musical chairs, Tebow would be the one left standing.. With Manning, Smith, Flynn still out there, it is very unlikely for a team (other than the Broncos) to embrace Tebowmania in all its glory and change their whole offense around him, especially when there are new prospects coming out of the draft every year.. He’s best chance to realize his childhood dream is to weather the storm in Denver IMO
high guys [first post] read all the time. whats with bunkley looking at the saints? we letting him go i though he had a pretty good season for us
*hi…. hungover as hell
Hi Six… Welcome to the Nuthouse… I hope they bring back Bunk… the guy is at least a presence in the middle
Carnage – fair point, Tebow may get more support from his fans than other players might otherwise get, but to be completely fair, Tebow also receives criticism of epic proportions of which this league has never seen… So it works both ways
The Patriots signed former Denver Broncos TE Daniel Fells
This whole free agency period makes me feel like our team is going in the wrong direction!! Royal signed with SD, Quin with KC, Fells with NE, and now Bunkley is visisting the Saints!!!! Our FO seems to not care about keeping the talent we already have to build off of. Instead they are waisting all their time on one player. If we dont sign Manning and lose Bunkley then this whole thing has been a huge failure. I am losing all respect for our FO. This is rediculous!!!!!!
Carnage, plenty of people defended Cutler, and criticized McDaniels for trying to get Cassell. That’s hogwash. It was no different with Cutler fans wanting him to stay than it is with Tebow fans wanting him to stay, nor is it different with the criticism of the organization this time. Not all fans agree, and never will..
Fells to NE? Lol…good luck getting playing time there.
What about the fact that free agents keep wanting to leave Denver…
Hell, Denver isn’t doing much to sign them! They’re waiting on Peyton’s a$$. If I wasn’t sure I’d have a job next year, I’d be looking for the first opportunity to secure one. Come on, Carnage.
Sorry, Carnage. This whole debacle has sort of ticked me off. Don’t mean to be so short tempered in my comments.
It makes me wonder if EFX have even talked to any of OUR free agents. It doesn’t look like it.
I hope the Rockies are better this year….
I don’t know, Main. It publicly appears as if their “eyes are on the prize,” and everything else is on hold until they know for certain whether they’ve won the Peyton lottery. Who really knows what’s going on behind closed doors at Dove Valley?
Hopefully, things will get back on track soon, and there won’t be damaging aftershocks to all of this.
Hey, Tide…how do you make a sad happy face? (That’s a good oxymoron, huh?).
Main, they’re actually called emoticons.
A sad face can be made several ways, but here’s a couple: ()
or ()
Also, here’s a link for you with quite a few on there. It will be easier for you to refer to when you need one for something:

And yeah, great oxymoron!
Flynn to Seattle… Things are certainly getting interesting…
Thanks, Tide.
For all of you who feel the best thing for Tebow is to be traded, Miami could be a potential landing spot.. Granted that Smith returns to the 49ers and Manning lands in Denver.. Miami has used the wildcat before, so they already have explored those type of plays, and it could make sense giving they are rebuilding and could choose to do so around Tebow.. Of course, this is assuming they don’t get Smith, and also elect not to draft Tannehill..
No other teams want Tebow and the fan distraction
Or the revenue or endless free publicity… good point Carnage as always spot on
Sure am glad some of you guys get inside information on other teams. Lord know I would be totally clueless about what other teams discuss in their meeting rooms if it weren’t for you.
OT, I don’t necessarily feel that the Broncos trading Tebow is the best thing for either party, nor do I believe it would be an optimum situation for either party if Denver kept him for the duration of his contract, maybe even next year, since he’s not really wanted.
However, I PERSONALLY would completely understand if he asked to be traded, and I do hope he will eventually end up on a team that wants him and believes in him, even if it’s as a back-up quarterback, as long as he’s okay with that. At this point, he very well may be, if someone will pick him up. Despite what some others think, I believe there will be a market for him, as a quarterback, no less.
Or the wins for that matter, improved running game, proven leadership… gosh, so many reasons not to bring him in… Spluh…
Yea Carnage a few defended Cutler … i know i did. I am often on the players side. Actually cutlers was more outlandish because the new coach hadn’t even seen him play first hand and was trying to get a lesser QB (IMO) … different with a HOF QB … but in the same right he might be over the hill. Also cuter never took us to the playoffs (I know u don’t believe Tebow did either) … they seem to always tell him one thing and do another, like last year when he was supposed to be the starter and was hosting lockout practice .. this year supposedly going into camp. Dunno how he found out about manning but if he found out the way we did that sucks. But like Tide said, he receives overwhelming love AND overwhelming criticism so it balances out.
I just knew that this manning thing would mean no FA love and people were on my back saying its only 2 days and u are ready to give up on the FO … nope. Now more than 2 days and 2 offensive pieces signed away (royal and Fells) because u cannot touch the offense until manning says so and u don’t wanna spend any of “his” money. These FAs can’t wait around forever or they may lose out. I don’t blame Royal and Fells, heck I don’t blame John Abr.a.ham for resigning with the falcons after the titans and broncos put him on hold for manning.
Congrats to the hawks … hopefully they found thier guy and a heck of a lot cheaper picks wise, player wise and money wise than kolb.
Happy sunday, Later days, TRB
Alex Smith to Miami???? Stay tuned.
TRB
People like Carnage who don’t like Tebow, or his skillset, or much of anything else about him, don’t see any potential in him whatsoever, unless it’s maybe as an H-back. Therefore, in their minds, nobody else in the NFL does either, so of course they believe there is no market for him. Just watch and see what happens if he’s put on the auction black, Carnage. I think you’ll be surprised.
*auction block….
I think many people will be surprised about teams wanting him on their team cause the money and fans he brings….I also think people would be surprised about what FOs value that sort of thing. TT is the only player in the NFL IMO that can bring in fans and money even if he is losing games.
Tide – I understand what you’re saying, and it’s hard to argue with it.. I guess the only thing I have to offer is that I hope Tebow wants to prove our FO wrong in as a member of the Denver Broncos rather than with another team.. We are certainly in for an interesting week, as the future of our team hangs in the balance…
On a side note, how funny would it be if Alex Smith signs in Miami, and SF looses out on Manning… Just goes to show that we weren’t the only ones crazy enough to risk everything to get Manning..
OT heres out it will go LOL
Titans get Manning cut Hasslecak
Niners sign Hassleback
Fish get Smith
Tebow wants out and gets traded to the Pats
Denver drafts a QB at 25.
*heres how it will go out
BRONCOS TO RE-SIGN MAYS
The Denver Broncos have agreed to a deal to re-sign linebacker Joe Mays, the team announced tonight.
Mays, 26, visited the New Orleans Saints and was scheduled to visit the Indianapolis Colts.
Mays is a stocky 5-foot-11, 250-pounder who recorded 75 tackles last season in a dozen starts for the Broncos.
Mays has a previous stint for the Denver Broncos and has piled up 133 career tackles with one forced fumble.
OF all the players to resign they choose MAYS?????? WTF!!!!
Mays huh? What about Bunk? Maybe Bunk wanted too much money.
Yeah, OT, wouldn’t THAT be crazy?
And I understand what you’re saying to about HOPING Tebow wants to prove the Denver organization wrong. He may very well want to do that, and I would support him if he does, but my thing is….I personally wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to get the hell out of Dodge. AND, I personally don’t know how much more Tebow has in him to basically fight a losing battle. Elway wants what Tebow is NOT, and it’s doubtful that will change.
Plain and simple, Tebow is not Elway’s idea of the future QB for the Denver Broncos, and he’s made that clear as a bell to Tim and pretty much all of Broncos Country…ALL of last year, and now this year as well. Elway said he had hopes for Tebow and looked forward to working with him, BUT when you get the “chance” to get Peyton Manning, that all changes. Peyton Manning certainly knows first hand how that feels. Robert Irsay did basically the same thing to him.
I don’t blame Elway for feeling however he does about Tim. He has a franchise to run and that’s where his priorities lie. As I told my children when they were growing up, when you make your decisions, make them based on cause and effect, and think about what the ramifications will be, because you will have to live with them, AND be responsible for them. Elway and Tebow will have to do the same.
Anyway, I’m pretty much done with rehashing this stuff. It wont change anything, and venting doesn’t help matters.
Later…..
So does this mean no Wimbley?
NEW BLOG!!
I doubt we were going to go after Wimbley period. I dont know what this means for McClain and Hayes.
Why does someone even visit if we’re not interested?
Mark my words, by next week, Tebow will be demanding a trade and I don’t blame him. How’s that song go “Get out of Denver, go, go.”. No matter how well Tebow does somewhere else, he’ll be happier to be out of the Broncos organization . I apologize to those I have offended, but that’s how I see it. Whether you think Tebow is a starting QB or not, he deserved a little better treatment than a vote of confidence in January by Elway announcing Tebow earned stater designation at the beginning of training camp and then in March finding out the Broncos are recruiting Manning, scouting Weeden and rumors flying about getting rid of Tebow if Manning comes on board. That’s got to sting any ego. I haven’t heard a single word from any of the Broncos management on communication with Tebow. Totally turned off by the current Bronco regime.
At the rate we are going, we will only have 11 players playing on both sides of the ball. I guess JE wants our players tougher!! thats why he is letting all our FA go somewhere else.
So I am new to this message board, but not new to being a Bronco fan. This topic is very much a double edged sword. First I must say that I have been nothing but a Broncos and Hurricain fan since the 70′s, so being a Tebow fan since he was in H.S. and an Elway fan since he was at Stanford, goes against my beliefs. That being said. John your pissing me off! I’m not sure if it is you being jealous of his popularity or what. As far as I am concerned, Tebow is the future. There is no reason why he can’t learn from 2 of the best players ever. Even if it takes 5 years. There was NO reason to not be up front with Tim about your plans to pursue Manning. Tebow may not be the best QB out there yet, but he has that X factor, you can’t deny he is poster child for ROLE MODLE. He brings more enthusiasm and karma to this team and fans than anyone has. Don’t be jealous and embrase Tebowmania. Let Manning and Tebow bring us World Championships into the next decade.
