Mario Haggan may have bounced around the Broncos defensive formation in 2010, but his impact remained constant.
After a career season, the eighth-year linebacker has earned a spot on USA Today’s 19th-annual All-Joe team, a group of 53 players who have never earned a Pro Bowl selection but deserve recognition for their unsung contributions.
As USA Today’s Nate Davis described the group, it’s a list of “players thriving on the mainland in the NFL’s version of anonymity.”
Haggan started every game for the second straight season, finishing second on the team with a career-high 87 tackles. He also notched a career-high 5 sacks, including three in the Broncos’ win against Kansas City on Nov. 14.
Davis summed up Haggan’s selection with a nod to his versatility: “Did whatever Denver needed, starting eight games on the outside and eight on the inside as the team switched schemes and coped with injuries.”
That’s a role Haggan relished — and thrived in — this season.
The third-year Bronco was one of six NFL players with at least 80 tackles and five sacks.
“The old saying is ‘Jack of all trades, good at none,’” Haggan said this season. “I don’t think of myself as that guy, so it’s tough to settle in at one position because I feel like I’m capable of being an impact player at both.”
This marks the third straight year a Broncos linebacker has appeared on the list following D.J. Williams in 2009 and Jamie Winborn in 2008.

Congrats Mario! Couldn’t have picked a better candidate!!!
Tho, I thought the saying went “jack of all trades, master of none”? I could be mistaken.
I wounder if we can trade Dawkins for a pick maybe Silver pines Retirment center will want him
So, Im ready for my initial mock. A lot of thought and research. When all it came down to, is who I like best. GO FIGURE!!!!
Round 1; Pick #2- Patrick Peterson CB LSU
Round 2; Pick #36- Martez Wilson ILB Illinois
Round 2; Pick #46- (initially I had Drake Nevis DT LSU slated here) Stephen Paea DT ORE (I know his injury is a concern but hey, Its a mock)
Round 3; Pick #67- Casey Matthews ILB ORE
Round 6; Pick #191- Armandon Allen RB ND (if Luke Stoker TE TEN is still
available, grab him!)
Round 7; Pick #195- Jason Teague CB/FS TCU Great value pick here!
not funny DO
come on man!
At least somebody is trying!!!!!!
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will cut his salary to $1 if there is a work stoppage after the collective bargaining agreement expires in March.
Goodell, who makes about $10 million a year including bonuses, said in a memo to his staff Wednesday that chief negotiator Jeff Pash will do the same. Pash makes nearly $5 million a year.
Goodell also has asked the league’s compensation committee to delay any bonus payments to him until after a deal is reached with the NFL Players Association.

Dawkins isnt some punk like McD or others. He is a warrior. I admit he has slowed considerably and lost a lot. But to take a knock at him like that? Youre better than that bro!!!!
Is it just me or does the video of Lloyd surfing scare the beejeesus outta you? Clady and his offseason activities ring a bell? I mean Im all for these guys having fun and trying new things. May want to reconsider trading some wideouts just for insurance purposes!!!! lol
All Joking aside why not trade him maybe someone will want him I dont think I can watch another year of him missing tackles and getting injured every week (Grantit he did make some pretty sweet hits this year and he is a hell of a leader) But as sndvl said Im better then that bro
As much as i appriciate Dawk he is losing it on the field. As much as I don`t like this decision, he has to go. Way to slow, missing tackles and getting injured alot lately. It`s a bummer to say it but he`s done.
Your Mock is a bit of a stretch but I suppose its hard to have one without all the facts…For one im not opposed to Patrick Peterson. I want him but at the same time I dunno. Taking him with the second pick is high as well. As far as Martez Wilson goes, He is def gone in the first round in my opinion, even Greg Jones MLB from MSU is slated first/second round with people guessing first. I like both Nevis and Paea. Casey Matthews is a OLB i believe but also a good option in the third round. And the 6th round picks could go either way. Not bad. Like u said….its a Mock. I don’t have a official mock yet…Ill wait for more info but its definitely getting hard. Also we may have a 3rd second rounder by trading orton. I try to come up with one soon tho.
I think holding on to him for one more year would be costly we paid way too much for him and if he has another bummer year like this one it would be even harder to trade him to someone and lets face it we need picks this year no matter what round it is
No one will trade for Dawkins…The guy (as much as i like him as a player and person) is done. He is not worth trading for. Its easier for teams to just hope for us to cut him and then pick him up. Because thats his worth, a guy that I would take but not trade for. Just like Shanny had to tell John Lynch it was time to hang it up, we gotta do the same. We have lacked at safety for a long time…all we have done is get good free agents from other teams in the like 3 years of their career and while we wait for the next over the hill safety, use random guys like Marquan Manuel (man that year was a disaster). If there was a worthy safety like Eric Berry this year, I would draft him with the first round pick.
last 3yrs of career* … we have lacked on the defensive side of the ball period for a long time. Its gonna take more than one draft to fix it. Even if we had 10 picks…
…Not unless all 10 picks were in the first 3 rounds…
No trading of any kind will take place until we get a new cba in place which by all accounts won’t be until August or even September.
Did everybody get that?
I wonder how long it will take for everyone to face up to that reality or they just rather ignore the obvious so they can talk about all the players we should trade so we can get more draft picks!?!?! I admit I was on that trail for a long while, but the level that the negotiations are at plus OC making the point sobbered me up big time last week and I have since basically totally let go of all my illusions of getting more draft picks for this year’s draft.
Of course we could trade down to do that, but we don’t need just more average players, we need some big time impact ones and we have four picks in the top 3 rounds and I don’t see how we have the luxury to trade these down.
Bottom line is FA will have to play a bigger role than I wished and it will take at the very least one more draft after this meager one to get anywhere close to accomplishing the rebuild we need to do, specially on D. I have already lowered my expectations for this year’s record if that even makes sense. McD has put us in a terrible situation for this year’s draft and if it wasn’t for the extra second round pick we got for Marshall it would be right down awful, never thought I would say thanks to Marshall for something, haha.
TRB…Raheem Moore and Ahmad Black are both great Safties and projected 2nd round,I have Moore in my mock.
BTW.Casey Matthews is an ILB,but his #s aren’t very good.Nowhere near the talent level of Jones or Wilson.
FA here we come again, maybe this time around we can get some young talented players, with Fox on the trail,we should, haha.
I say we straight up cut Dawk and J.Williams, and make room for whoever we draft, and trade Orton for a LB or DT,someone that has proven talent,if we can’t trade him for a draft pick.
I have Fairley DT and Moore S as our 1st 2 picks anyway. They can take Williams and Dawk’s spot on the roster.
Even free agency will be a nightmare to work with without a cba, I mean it’s like moving in the dark.
Well I am hopefull that come march 4th they will come to a agreement and untill locks are put on the areanas I will keep with my wishfull thinking no since in feelling bad about something that has not happened yet : )
Well good luck to you…
Yeah we’re just talking to pass the time,at this point, hoping we have a cba this year.
lol @ Bay I thought even free agency would be shut down untill agreements are met
I hear you, but it all looks more and more like a mirage this year, other than the six draft picks we know we’ll get, everything else is up in the air, heck even the commissioner right now is putting the screws to the players a little more saying he will pay himself $1 if no cba is reached.
You are probably right, everything will be shut down.
We are just running on fumes now.
It takes some dedicated bloggers to discuss things that are nothing more than a mirage right now, FA is right in front of us now, but by the time we will get to it, it will evaporate with no cba…
Ok, just act as if I didn’t say anything and keep on telling us how to rebuild our team, LOL. Sorry I cut off the flow for a while, LMAO…
The CBA won`t be fianalized until the last minute. Both sides will drag it out until the very last moment. It`s always been that way with the NFL and always will be. There`s nothing we can do about it. It is what it is.
first we talk with 4 time ufc champion Chuck Lidell and see about buting him in at S and then we go to the wwe and bring in the big show for DT and now where talking and why we are at it why not make our chearleaders out fits a bit striperesk if you will
Discard that to much red bull
Problem is I think the current cba expires the day before FA starts (March 4th cba exp./March 5th FA starts), so yeah, no cba no FA, just the draft and no signings, players will be allocated and deals will be made when a new cba is reached, at least that’s how I understand it to be, weird, weird, weird off season we are in for, I feel like I just fell thru a black hole back to the eighties and their strike years…
DenverOranges…
I am with you man! I will never let someone tell me what is going to happen in the future! Especially in the NFL! I do not know how many things that I have seen that were so unexpected come true!! I mean this is a business. I know that the CBA probably wont get figured out tomorrow but anything is possible! If you truly believe that it couldn’t happen then maybe you haven’t watch the NFL all that long because the league is the place where surprises come every year!
That goes without saying, I haven’t been around the NFL all that long, but long enough to have lived through the 1982 strike.
Yea, things in business are so weird sometimes with the result of their outcomes! That’s why I stay out of it and worry/celebrate it whenever the result is in! We have had WAY too much let down and disappointment this season to now start worrying about that. Let the big boys do their thing and we’ll see what happens in the end!
I enjoy reading and posting all the stuff about possible players that we may draft/sign!
We all have to keep going as if nothing is changed, that’s what the whole coaching staff is doing in Mobile this week, and obviously that’s what we fans have been doing on this site everyday. However hope for the best and brace for the worse would still be a prudent way to go about things in this situation. Cautiously optimistic? That sounds awful, I think that’s what I used to say about the early days of McD and look at what that got me!! LOL.
Mike Florio’s bullet points are:
1. A lockout likely would begin long before September.
2. The union has the ability to try to block a lockout.
3. The owners have an alternative to a lockout.
4. In a lockout, free agency would be tabled.
5. The draft would proceed, but with no player trades.
6. Say farewell to the offseason, training camp, and the preseason.
7. Pressure points for the owners.
8. Supplemental revenue sharing.
9. De Smith’s dilemma, and possible agenda.
10. The absence of gravitas.

Thanks for that BFE, the end of the road other than the draft like I said, it is what it is.
Seriously unimpressed is how I feel about the whole thing, yes, that my new thing, not cautiously optimistic anymore since that didn’t do any good, but “seriously unimpressed” is where I’m at about all this CBA crapola.
Ortonand a 5th in 2012 draft for jared allen…………lol I doubt they would do that but y not Vikings could use a good qb I think Orton would do realy good with them too
Yeah Bay,it figures something like this would happen, when we finally have something to look forward to,it is what it is!
I can see why. Why spend millions on a free agent when there is so much uncertainty. No games, no revenue, and no paying free agents you cannot sign. You don`t want to pay a player free money when there is no games. This is such a bummer.
It looks like Wink will get a job somewhere, good for him:
Martindale has drawn interest from the New York Jets and head coach Rex Ryan, the Dallas Cowboys and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and the Baltimore Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh.
Second practice day report on the senior bowl by MHR:
South Practice
Von Miller has been the talk of the week. He checked in at under 240 pounds, but has displayed unparalleled speed and quickness off the edge. Miller, a senior out of Texas A&M, has been considered one of the nation’s top pass rushers for a couple of years now, and he is considered a sure-fire first round selection.
On the other side of the ball, former Baylor guard and former teammate of Broncos center J.D. Walton Danny Watkins has had two very good days for the South team. Scout’s Inc. calls him a “technician” on the inside, and has shown great abilities. If the Broncos lose Ryan Harris, they could put Zane Beadles at right tackle and team up the old Bears teammates on the interior.
Staying on the offensive side of the ball, I keep hearing great things about Tennessee tight end Luke Stocker, who certainly looks the part at 6’5″ 250. Stocker is making plays in the passing game, and has a ton of upside in terms of his size and already solid blocking ability. The Broncos have some of the worst tight ends in the NFL, and they should be looking to upgrade that area sooner rather than later.
Yesterday, the Broncos talked to TCU quarterback Andy Dalton, and I had my first chance to watch him today. Obviously, his resume’ speaks for itself. All he does is wins games. He doesn’t have great arm strength, but he’s smart, and he has that “it” factor.
North practice, O side of the ball:
Nebraska running back Roy Helu Jr. showed great awareness in the passing game, and I’ve always liked him as a runner. I think he is extremely underrated as a bigger speed back, and reminds me a lot of a more durable version of former Husker and current Bronco Correll Buckhalter.
The man who is all the talk right now has got to be Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter, who is only 5’8″ 200, but has exceptional skills. The first team All-American has a nice combination of speed and vision, and has surprising power for his size. His frame makes him a lot like a bowling ball style player, not unlike Maurice Jones-Drew and Ray Rice. Hunter could be a second round pick if he measures out well.
D side:
Cameron Jordan was being considered a fringe top ten choice before the Senior Bowl process after a monster senior year at Cal, and after the first day of full pads, he appears to be back on the rise. No matter if he was coming at Steve Schilling (Michigan), James Brewer (Indiana), Anthony Castonzo (Boston College), or anybody else, Jordan was simply too quick.
His hand placement was excellent, and he was so quick off the line that no tackle or guard dare stand in his way. Now, this is only one practice, so let’s not get carried away here, but if the end from Cal can keep it up throughout the week, he will likely cement himself in the top ten of the draft.
Jordan is known as a guy who has a fiery personality and he plays with a relentless motor. He definitely showed that and more at Tuesday’s practice, and I personally came away very impressed.
Another couple of linemen who impressed me were Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan and Iowa defensive tackle Christian Ballard. Kerrigan, another potential top ten pick, has shed about 15-20 pounds from his playing weight at Purdue in order to be more scheme versatile. At 255 pounds, he can be effective as a pass rushing RDE in a 4-3 or an outside linebacker in a 3-4. That kind of ability will most certainly make Kerrigan a first round pick.
He’s showing exceptional speed and motor over the first two days, and got to QB Colin Kaepernick on the final play of the day for a sack.
Ballard was looking tired on day one, but on day two, he looked like a man on a mission. He was playing ticked off, and as a result, he looked great. He checked into the Senior Bowl at about 6’4″ 290 pounds, and he has the look to me of a defensive tackle or end in a 3-4 scheme. He showed great hands and finished plays well.
I hope there is truth to this report:
Hurney: QB is Carolina Panthers’ ‘No. 1 need’
January 26, Charlotte Observer
“Panthers general manager Marty Hurney has the same seat every year at Senior Bowl practices, alone in the top row at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Hurney might have the same vantage point, but he is in a different perch this year at the college all-star game – holding the No. 1 pick in the April draft. Following the second of two practices Tuesday, Hurney did not rule out using that pick to a quarterback. Whether through the draft or free agency, Hurney indicated the Panthers want to create competition for Jimmy Clausen after finishing with the league’s worst offense and passing attack in 2010. “That’s the No.1 need,” Hurney said. “I think we have good players. It all starts with solidifying that”
Hopefully Carolina will take a QB with the #1 pick, then we will get Fairley or Dareus, whichever the top brass wants.BTW Luke Stocker TE UT,is a great TE,so if we can’t get Rudolph,or decide to go another popsition in the 2nd round,if we could get Stocker in the 3rd round,he might be another Hernandez?
I’ve watched him play the last couple of years, and he is the real deal, can block and has great hands.
We will need a TE for sure, rather get him in the third and pick three D players in the first two rounds.
1.Fairley DT Auburn
2.Moore S UCLA
2.Jones ILB Michigsn St.
3.Stocker TE Tennessee
Works for me!
Hopefully we can get a pick for Orton to get another DL.
