‘Joe’ Haggan

January 26th, 2011 - 12:09pm by Eric Detweiler

Mario Haggan

Mario Haggan may have bounced around the Broncos defensive formation in 2010, but his impact remained constant.

After a career season, the eighth-year linebacker has earned a spot on USA Today’s 19th-annual All-Joe team, a group of 53 players who have never earned a Pro Bowl selection but deserve recognition for their unsung contributions.

As USA Today’s Nate Davis described the group, it’s a list of “players thriving on the mainland in the NFL’s version of anonymity.”

Haggan started every game for the second straight season, finishing second on the team with a career-high 87 tackles. He also notched a career-high 5 sacks, including three in the Broncos’ win against Kansas City on Nov. 14.

Davis summed up Haggan’s selection with a nod to his versatility: “Did whatever Denver needed, starting eight games on the outside and eight on the inside as the team switched schemes and coped with injuries.”

That’s a role Haggan relished — and thrived in — this season.

The third-year Bronco was one of six NFL players with at least 80 tackles and five sacks.

“The old saying is ‘Jack of all trades, good at none,’” Haggan said this season. “I don’t think of myself as that guy, so it’s tough to settle in at one position because I feel like I’m capable of being an impact player at both.”

This marks the third straight year a Broncos linebacker has appeared on the list following D.J. Williams in 2009 and Jamie Winborn in 2008.

    That is right,we have a 1st,two 2nds,a 3rd,a 6th,and a 7th…no 4th or 5th.

  2. baylinorcrush says:

    Picks:

    1st, 2x 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th.

  3. BeastFromEast92 says:

Ah well,we’ll let the big wigs figure it out,we still gotta stand behind those guys,if we wanna build a winning team.

  4. baylinorcrush says:

    Haha

  5. BeastFromEast92 says:

If I read it right there will be no walk on FAs from the college ranks either.

  6. strandoftds says:

    Thats what I figured.

  7. strandoftds says:

That would suck not to resign Harris.

  8. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I would like Harris back but I will like many thing sback. FOx defintiely seemed to speak highly of Moreno (and I think he will kick butt in zone blocking) so im happy about that. DeAngelo Williams is a name that has been floating around here so I like that. At least we won’t be spending anything on a RB

    BTW, Denver Broncos
Head Coach John Fox finalized his coaching staff naming Keith Burns assistant special teams coach & Sam Garnes assistant secondary coach

guess no skipper. Glad Keith Burns is back…

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

Like to have had Skipper, but Studs is a good RB coach,he’s proved himself in Buffalo, can’t really judge him in McD’s failed Power scheme.Figured Skipper would come in as an Assistant of some sort, but oh well, glad to finally have our coaching staff all hired so they can get familiar with each other, and start getting the feel of working with one another.

Keith Burns was a great ST player for us and will be a fine ST coach.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

BFE, Keith Burns was already a ST assistant coach for us since 2007 so he returns for a fifth straight season to the same position.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Only one Skipper on the team then, like OC would say (Orton).

  12. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Yeah Bay I remember now.

BTW: at least we got rid of Gilligan(McD).LOL.

Here’s my take on the FA for this off season!

Bowlen stated previously before getting a HC that money wasn’t an issue with the Broncos! We signed Fox that we got for VERY cheap so we should be able to go out and throw some good money at some players! Like, Bowlen has said word for word that he wants to win NOW! Obviously, we have to have great players in every spot to do that!!

We need to resign Champ, I know it would be crazy but maybe try to take a stab at Asomugah, sign Charles Johnson and Williams from the Panthers!! These moves are a must, or at least Champ, Johnson, and Williams!! If we did that, then we would only need maybe two more DL in the draft, TE, S, 1/2 LB and FB. That is 6/7 picks!! That would be PERFECT! We HAVE to take advantage in FA and I think that the front office will do that.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

At this point the front office has nothing to do with it and the CBA everything to do with it since until there is a new CBA in place there will be no FA.

  15. strandoftds says:

That sucks if your a free agent. Your stuck in limbo.

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

Man I bet there are a lot of FAs out there that are bummed out!

They were probably thinking,I can finally get off this team,or I’ll finally get the big contract I deserve, and now WTF no FA!!!

so we start Tebow all season even if he is sucking it up and if thats the case (which I doubt he will Suck it up)Then we get top 3 draft pick in 2012 maybe #1 Then we pick up Locke and have Tebow as a Back up and maybe a goalline guy. Realy there is no reason not to start him all year Good will come out off him playing bad or good its full proof man Chew on it

  19. BeastFromEast92 says:

    GOOD GOD!!!

  20. strandoftds says:

    Dude, what are you smoking?!

  21. steveatwater5 says:

yeah zone blocking scheme time to start winning again………I hope so much that they sign bailey back we need him forever

  22. steveatwater5 says:

PS:sorry for not blogging for so long I was taking time to warm up to the idea of Tebow being are QB….it took my a while but the kids got heart

PPS:plus I work a lot lol go broncos

  23. redrokDenver says:

being a diehard bronco fan and watching them lose i focus a lot on what was going on…. Not enough pressure on QB and having a QB that wasnt mobile. Last year when we started 6-0 our defense was sacking QB and our offense line was protecting the QB. With a rookie starting in the most important position on the O line sacks against the QB were high. For tebow he is staying as starting QB because even if things arent going well he still manages to put points on the board. In his 3 starts we avg 22.8 pts a game. thats more than we did when orton was QB. draft picks have to be focused on TE and DE and S. We need to trade goodman to panthers for either williams or stewart. i read someones post about Locke coming here…. people you need to relax and watch what tebow can really do. Heres an example of what tebow can do… 40 yard TD run against the Raiders. The call was a run to buck but tebow called the wrong play and what happened…. Gods talent on the field gave us 7. we should trade Orton for a 4th round pick. thats a 1st, 2X 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and with a draft class full of defense i have no doubt in my mind that they will pick defense in first, second, third. Denver fans relax we have hope.
