Attention soccer aficionados — INVESCO Field at Mile High is set to host an international match this summer.
The Mexican national team will host New Zealand at INVESCO on Wednesday, June 1 at 8 p.m. MDT as part of Mexico’s 2011 U.S. Tour.
“We look forward to hosting Mexico and New Zealand in what will be an exciting match for fans to enjoy,” Broncos Senior Vice President of Business Development Mac Freeman said. “INVESCO Field at Mile High is a World-class facility and a perfect venue for this international sporting event.”
The match, which will take place four days prior to Mexico’s opening game in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, will mark “El Tri’s” first visit to INVESCO Field at Mile High since suffering a 1-0 exhibition loss to the U.S. Men’s National Team on April 3, 2002, in front of 48,476 fans.
The Mexican national team is under the direction of new Head Coach Jose Manuel “Chepo” De La Torre, following its participation in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where it reached the Round of 16. Mexico showcases key players such as forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernández (Manchester United/English Premier League), midfielder Giovani dos Santos (Racing Santander/La Liga) and defender Rafael Márquez (New York Red Bulls/MLS).
New Zealand has qualified for two FIFA World Cups (1982, 2010) and was the only undefeated participant during the 2010 South Africa World Cup. New Zealand bowed out in the group stage after earning draws against Paraguay, Slovakia and Italy. The “All Whites” are led by head coach Ricki Herbert and captain Ryan Nelsen (Blackburn Rovers/English Premier League). Other national team standouts include forward Chris Wood (West Bromwich Albion) and defender Winston Reid (West Ham United) of the English Premier League.
Mexico defeated New Zealand 2-0 in the last match between the two countries in front of a capacity crowd at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., on March 3, 2010.
Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, April 22. Tickets may be purchased at any Ticketmaster location, through the Ticketmaster website or by calling 303-830-TIXS.

HAHAHAHA, how bout that collies? LOL, Just spoke about this
LMAO, Hilarious.
Are they serious lol
nice:O lol
Was just thinking (yes it did hurt) so much speculation that we might go for Dareus, Newton, Peterson and now Miller all coming from Broncos headquarters. If I was a betting man and I am, I am seriously coming round to the thought that we are 100% looking to trade this number 2 pick away. We are trying to get numerous teams who want any of the above to come in and make a deal. Nobody knows at all who we really want so they cannot take the risk that we take their guy.
Too funny!
Maybe they should schedule some games for Sept and Oct. too. Oh, did I say games??? LOL
