I think Bay has it covered - the different criteria led to different numbers for Elway and Manning..

sndvl - Clady has been flagged for holding once this season, which is the only penalty called against him thus far.

In reality I bet Goodell had very little to do with the decision, it was most likely the owners attorneys' team who recommended the course of action. At least that's how it works in big business, no one moves without counsel from the legal team, and that move seems like a legal move to me, it should serve them well no matter where it's heading.

I agree 100% with Bay. Absolute best decision he could've made. Nicely done, Commish!

As per the reality of Elway being only given 46 4th quarter comebacks instead of the 47 we always hear about is because one of those ended in a tie, therefore a comeback but not a game winning comeback, but a comeback nonetheless in my book. The tie game was played at Green Bay on September 20, 1987 and Elway tied it up in regulation at 17-17 and it remained that way through OT. So Elway's record is actually kept by the NFL as 46-0-1.

Goodell deferring to Tagliabue in this case makes total business sense to me, Goodell came down with the harsh penalties, the players association doesn't like them, Roger brings in a new old guy for the appeal, so if the sanctions stand the players can't say it was a personal vendetta by Goodell, makes perfect sense.

I think it's super cool he's going to do that. He didn't have to. And if the Saints players don't like THAT what else could he do?
